Dave Simpson and Danish Pete need to do a jam session. Each of them plugged straight into a Boss Katana II and all it's functionality, no external effects allowed and playing (off the wall of Anderton's) Squire Affinity guitars; a Stratocaster for Dave and a Telecaster for Pete and show the gear snobs what it means to really play a guitar, that would be truth and it would be awesome. When Dave played his lovingly beat to crap MIM Strat through the Marshall Jackhammer straight into his Katana and pulled off the Frusciante tone perfectly (@1:01:44), I was paying attention, were you?
I'm a bit older, and I've had several times in my life where I felt like what Dave describes here. I'm glad he feels comfortable enough to talk about it. It truly might help some people to hear this. Music and creativity can be a very healing force in people's lives.
Larry Lachmann Dave was so nervous he doesn’t remember much of the interview. He had to watch it back to see what happened, Luckily he had his sister with him for moral support.
@@thekitowl Is that right? Wow! He did seem nervous, but he was cool. I guess it's so far outside his comfort zone of either playing in his room or on a stage. I'd be nervous too, honestly! Dave's the man! And Lee was cool and sensitive to it all.
I bought my Boss Katana 50 from Anderton’s after hearing Dave play through one. So happy people are discovering him via this interview. He truly deserves success.
Just repeating everyone else but Dave really is a nice, humble northern lad. Been a fan of his channel for a few years. Great guitarist, very funny in his own way. You either get it or you don’t. This interview only made us all love him more.
What a brilliant interview. Dave was authentic, charmingly quirky, and obviously a first-rate talent. But Lee's skill as an interviewer absolutely shone. He was informed, considerate, listened to Dave's answers, and gently kept the conversation going in a positive direction. No small task when you're separated by a wall of plexiglass and talking about topics that range from solid state amps to mental illness. This kind of content is what keeps me coming back to the Andertons channel. Bravo.
Plus, Dave likes to talk a lot. Which is fine and something I can relate to. I can be shy. But, get me around the right people who are actually interested in the same type of music and I can talk for literally hours. So, I love it when Dave goes on about things, musically and otherwise. The dude is great.
Lee is very thoughtful. If you’re watch the Lari Basilio video you’ll see whenever she pauses looking for an English word the camera cuts to a different shot. They edited out all the gaps and struggling so she would look her best.
I spent about a year waking up every morning into a Disassociative state due to mental illness. In this time, I started picking up guitars and burying myself in music. I love and appreciate this video, it’s not something that you hear about very often.
PLEASE anyone who doesn't have their life together and is not following Dave Simpson GO DO IT this channel will change you. Dave is what you have been missing in your life.

He's great. A great human and an immense talent. If you liked his intro here, definitely subscribe to his channel. Most of his vids start with a minutes-long improvised intro jam which is consistently some of the most inspired modern playing I've heard.

Truly an amazing guitar player In my opinion, there 's a majority of us who spend too much time and money "chasing tone" when we should be more like Dave and spend our time learning to truly posses tone. @Bob Blake ML1? Never doubted that Bob. The guys who I've seen demo it give a hint of some blues but revert to form as they are as players. Gawd love 'em. We know who they are but they live in different a genre than me. Dave Simpson might just have sold me a guitar. Though I'm lusting after that new Jr that Chapman just demo'd recently

Dave's a delicate soul. But his guitar playing is like 2am listing to Hendrix or Maggot Brain. You feel like you're at that crossroads. His knowledge of gear and tone is epic.
Great guest interview. I think it's great that Dave Simpson is right at the top of your 'most requested' interviews and this video demonstrates why. I like Dave because he's human... and very deep, like we all truly are. I like him even more because he's less guarded than many of us and that makes him even more human, likeable and easy to connect with. Along with being humble and talented, he's enthusiastic and very 'in the moment' in how he talks about things. He deals with negative TH-cam comments the way I do; I delete them if they're intentionally spiteful, nasty and destructive. It's my 'world' so it's up to me to close my 'door' on it if I want to. Long may Dave Simpson be Dave Simpson. I hope that fame (on or offline) doesn't change him.
Finally, I literally have tears in my eyes, I'm really happy for Dave, for finally doing stuff like this I just have one word in my mind now: YEEEEESSSSSSSS
Watching it again!!! Can't say how much Dave means to us meagre bedroom pickers 😜 He's the reason I finally got a handle on soloing and learning how to use the pentatonic scale. He's my go to source of pretty much most guitar knowledge- and he never disappoints 🙂 He also speaks very openly and honestly about mental health difficulties; a subject very close to my heart. To finish... Dave Simpson = BEST HUMAN EVER! 😁✌🎸
The first time I went into a guitar shop age 12 I asked the owner if I could look at a strat and he asked if I would like to try it with the proviso that I didn’t play SOTW. The problem being it was the only song I knew!

Larry Lachmann he’s just put up a video of the Andertons experience.
@@thekitowl Thanks, I'll it out!
I love how he's wearing an Umbrella Corporation sweater
I bought my Boss Katana 50 from Anderton’s after hearing Dave play through one. So happy people are discovering him via this interview. He truly deserves success.
I got a 100 based on seeing him too, he is a natural
Me too. Was so blown away by that demo he did for the Boss Katana 50 I bought one, even though I didn’t need one. 🎸 What a lovely human being he is .🙏
The world needs more Dave, on every level, just more Dave!
Haha, we need more Dave Bell!
This is, oddly enough, one of the most enjoyable "The Captain Meets..." episodes I've ever seen. Good job, Dave!
Just thinking exactly that - Dave is authentic self
Just repeating everyone else but Dave really is a nice, humble northern lad. Been a fan of his channel for a few years. Great guitarist, very funny in his own way. You either get it or you don’t. This interview only made us all love him more.
Good Gravy, Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's about time! I am hoping that Dave makes more appearances at Anderton's...just imagine Dave and Pete jamming over loop heaven....
That would be so good!
Oh YES! Make it happen please Lee!
Epic
Lee did a real good job
Brilliant, inspiring bloke.
Was a pleasure having him down!
Out of all the most ambitious cross-overs there has been in the youtube guitar world, this one takes the cake. Cheers to The Capt. and the almighty Dave Simpson
Im a bass guitarist.. and I am a huge fan of Dave's playing. Guy is so humble.
That's an act, he censors his comments, that tells you he is very controlling, and if you will notice, 99% of the comments he likes are comments praising him.
@@davidjohnson-fo7ze he censors his comments to avoid the usual TH-cam assholes who get off on talking smack and taking the piss - generally acting like playground bullys. Can't say that I blame him to be fair. Take a look around most comments sections on a lot of videos. A good few of the big Guitar TH-camrs aren't exactly known for liking criticism. Its his channel - he gets the views, doesnt talk down to anybody.. good for him.
@@davidjohnson-fo7ze what are you on about !? Think about it ! Would you love love love the hate comments !? Maybe you would be happy to get any comments !?
@@davidjohnson-fo7ze He controls his TH-cam channel? Erm, yeah. I bet he deletes far less than that other guy that used to be on this channel a lot more than he is now. 🤔
Bruh can we acknowledge the straight fire that man Dave laid down in the intro??
Dave Simpson is the most down to earth, raw, guitar reviewer on TH-cam. Instead of pushing what’s popular or high end he is transparent in his reviews and tell you what works.
Good Gravy, it's Dave, .... Incredible musician, humble bloke.
YESSSSS WE WANT MORE DAVE SIMPSON GODAMNIT. THE MAN IS A LEGEND!!!!!
I can honestly say I’’d never heard of Dave Simpson until this moment. Not sure how he’s eluded me given the channels I do follow.
As a fan of his I highly recommend subscribing to his TH-cam channel. He’s an awesome player and person .
Get on in their. Watching Dave’s channel will make you a better person.. 🇦🇺👍
Jimmy Jimmy but not a better guitarist?
Caprise - Music Those who have followed Dave for a while have all picked up a thing or two from Dave. Hope for us all.👍🇦🇺
He's great. A great human and an immense talent. If you liked his intro here, definitely subscribe to his channel. Most of his vids start with a minutes-long improvised intro jam which is consistently some of the most inspired modern playing I've heard.
I just recently discovered Dave. His enthusiasm for the instrument is absolutely contagious. His talent is epic!
He plays with so much feeling. Absolutely love his playing and a seemingly super nice guy too.
I've never before sat through a 90 minute video on TH-cam. This chap is fantastic.
Never saw an ML-1 used as a total blues machine. Never saw Dave before. Truly an amazing guitar player
In my opinion, there 's a majority of us who spend too much time and money "chasing tone" when we should be more like Dave and spend our time learning to truly posses tone.
That's it. He possesses tone
So true man
@Bob Blake ML1? Never doubted that Bob. The guys who I've seen demo it give a hint of some blues but revert to form as they are as players. Gawd love 'em. We know who they are but they live in different a genre than me. Dave Simpson might just have sold me a guitar. Though I'm lusting after that new Jr that Chapman just demo'd recently
Well said
Really. It's a shame how much shit I have that cost so much money and I never use...
@@moosey62 I understand Anderton's position. Lee's in business and has a global presence. He's gotta' move gear. But more and more nowadays I run into much of the other content becoming nothing but cork sniffing, I'm starting to lose interest and just need to go back to playing with what i have and say the hell with you tube
I didn't know Dave Simpsontwo minutes ago, but the first twenty seconds of the solo made me a fan.
Dave has more soul and feel in his little finger than most players have in their whole body!
“We like what we like and there’s nothing wrong with that at all”. Need more of that attitude in 2020.
That's quite a character. Wouldn't mind seeing more of him on the show. Seemed to fit in quite well.
FoXz poor Dave hasn’t had the best of starts in life but guitar has saved him......just.
Give him a subscribe @FoXz
One of the UK's best guitarists right there.
I agree with that statement but I would replace UK with World.
Dave is perhaps my favorite guitar player. Not on TH-cam. Guitar player. Clapton. Gilmour. Dave Simpson. No difference to me. He should be a rock god.
me too
I agree, he has a special talent to make the guitar do exactly what he wants it to do.
Yes he's ridiculously good.
He is already. It's that just not gods are famous.
Dave is the genuine article. A true guitarists guitarist. Had he been swept up by the 70's music industry he'd be a household name now. Keep doing what you so Dave - a true inspiration.
It's nice to be in a comment section where we're all on the same page, we all appreciate Dave very much.
This guy is as honest as they come 👍
I noticed how The Captain handled every aspect of this interview with real skill. I paid attention to the entire video and several times he surprised me with his very mature and clear outlook on music and life in general. He certainly is the best person we have in today's world to conduct an interview concerning music.
Two genuine guys playing and talking about guitars and life. A real joy.
Well done Dave! I felt weirdly proud of you, even though I've never met you. Also for anyone watching who hasn't seen him play before, he fudged a few notes because he was nervous (who wouldn't be), check out his channel and see him play there. With his use of affordable pedals and amps, I'd love to see him on that pedal show.. even if it was just a 5 min cameo show casing SS amps!
I think Dave's playing comes from the soul , that's why he's so good.
Dave is an genius. It's incredible how he can play like several guitar players. And his personality match perfectly with Andersons team. Applause!
I'm glad Dave is getting the recognition he deserves, such an awesome talent and generally nice chap. He reminds me of old TH-cam, a guy who is passionate and does his videos for the love of guitar and the community. Long live Sir Dave Simpson of Grimsbyshire
damn ... i have tears rolling down... Dave has got to be greatest and most humble guitarist i ve ever known, and i am just a subscriber to his channel. all those insta live chats, a million questions on how to improve my playing, every single one answered ever so patiently.. You are awesome Dave. Rock on brother
Beautiful man :)
My favorite TH-cam guitarist
Finally ! , yes Dave , Lee ! Get Dave reviewing all the squires . Now let’s see Dave in that pedal show
You have to love a genuine, insanely talented English eccentric. The world is a better place with Dave in it. Keep up the good work fella - you're an inspiration.
Out of Hendrix, Frusciante, Page... This guy is my favorite guitarist. Such a great human being and teacher too.
Dave is all of us. We are all Dave.
Good Gravy! This is going to be excellent.
Dave's a delicate soul. But his guitar playing is like 2am listing to Hendrix or Maggot Brain. You feel like you're at that crossroads. His knowledge of gear and tone is epic.
Hahaha, I love Dave using the effect to illustrate the epiphany moment when he discovered his white Strat. What a guy :)
This is the best musician you've ever hosted. Happy Dave made it on.
Absolutely not.
This guy is one of my favourites. He's got such incredible feel for the notes!
Such a humble and great guy. I wish him all the best
Genuinely lovely person, and an incredible musician, who pours his soul into his music. Well done Dave 🙏
Dave has sold a lot of gear for big companies like Peavey, Orange and Fender. Pay him
and boss Katanas and DS2s for sure!
Very true.
And Marshall MG..
I have my Orange CR-120 Combo 100% because of him.
Don’t forget - Boss Katana , Ibanez wh10 , ( Marshall ) Jackhammer sales have risen tremendously I guarantee you
Finally, I literally have tears in my eyes, I'm really happy for Dave, for finally doing stuff like this
I just have one word in my mind now:
YEEEEESSSSSSSS
Watching it again!!! Can't say how much Dave means to us meagre bedroom pickers 😜 He's the reason I finally got a handle on soloing and learning how to use the pentatonic scale. He's my go to source of pretty much most guitar knowledge- and he never disappoints 🙂 He also speaks very openly and honestly about mental health difficulties; a subject very close to my heart. To finish... Dave Simpson = BEST HUMAN EVER! 😁✌🎸
I totally didn't replay the opening intro solo 50 times
Its so cool
The first time I went into a guitar shop age 12 I asked the owner if I could look at a strat and he asked if I would like to try it with the proviso that I didn’t play SOTW. The problem being it was the only song I knew!
Wonderful player, even better human being. I don't miss any of his videos, and I'm a bassist...
Dave is criminally underrated.
Glad you brought him to this channel
Dave subtly dismantling The Captain's belief system 😂
Haha yeah
Nice to see Dave get wider recognition, great player and just a genuine guy.
I know exactly what Dave is talking about regarding dissociative disorder, I also went through it for about a year quite some time ago, and let me tell you, it is more horrible than you can imagine. Im a 6'3 tattooed masculine dude and Dave nearly put me in tears because of the way he was explaining certain things, I can relate a lot with it. I love a good story like this, what an absolute legend of a person aswell as a talented musician
This man is epic. He’s the stereotypical modern day guitar nerd. Unmatched skills, and endless passion for his instruments and his music.
