My problem with X-men is that the season is over
Too short it should at least have 20 to 40 .
To be honest this is just a comic book problems in general.
This is why I prefer Manga. Because there is no bs crossovers in 100 different titles.

Exactly! The whole long episodes format works when you're young since you don't have much to do. But as an adult I don't have the patience for 10 episodes of stuff happening only for like 25% of what happened to matter.

X-Men books currently have around 10 main books both ongoing and mini series. To help with relaunch for readers to get on a good starting point they are releasing the same amount of books.
I get why some would find the pacing a bit much. But I really liked the urgency it put on the season.

@@JamailvanWestering well, no. Because not everything was at that pace. They did take moments to breathe. Until Genosha exploded it was pretty soap heavy. The pacing only really accelerated during moments of conflict. So, the accelerated pacing, when it was used, accented the urgency and panic of the situations
Also, literally anyone with an anxiety condition will confirm for you that everything being urgent in no way makes everything less urgent. That's not how that works even a little

@@JamailvanWestering also no. It simply makes the story feel rushed and incomplete because there's missing context or character development. You're not very good at this.
Just think about movies with pacing that's too fast. You're left with a sense of anxiety trying to keep up for 90+ minutes and a ton of questions and plot holes.
The real problems come when you're expecting the entirety of the Genosha run, or E is for Extinction, or 0 Tolerance or, Fatal Attraction. Which, I think Benny did. Madeline was a big part in the comics. She's not here. She's a C plot. Because in the story being told here she's just not that important. Outside of Magneto, no one in that council was exactly important to the story. So why waste time and money explaining things that simply don't need explaining because those characters are dying in a few seconds anyway. The show adapts X-Men storylines, it doesn't retell them because there's no point. You can already enjoy that story
If you watch comics explained you’ll get caught up in 2hrs or 1hr in 2x speed

As a Marvel enjoyer, Benny’s DC bias can be *mildly annoying at times. However, it’s definitely interesting and unique hearing DC POVs on different Marvel events
You should change the title to "Problem with X-Men comics" bc im thinking its about X Men 97, nah its a comic book rant, which I agree with you, its the whole reason why i couldn't get into comics or Manga, "issues" didn’t make sense to me, just tell me the order using book terms, Book 1, Book 2. The only comic I've ever read is the Last Ronin bc theres a compilation book, and theres a beginning and an end. Same with Lost Years, and i know this new Re-Evolution series, is probably gonna be another 6 issue series, and boom I read a whole saga without any complications

The X-Men had two main books during the 90’s; Uncanny X-Men & X-Men. Wolverine, X-Factor, Excalibur, X-Force, Cable, and Alpha Flight were other x-books. The only time they crossed over was during the events. I didn’t think it was too much at all. And there was a mini series usually always going on at the time.
This is basically the same with krakoa era.

I agree it is going too fast, but we as an audience have been preferring quick entertainment. Look at what social media apps are successful.
There’s a X-men 97 comic that fills in the blanks of events that happen in between episodes, Benny. The original animated series did the same thing.
Another reason for the faster pace is because they only have ten episodes for this season, compared to the original series which had 13-15 episodes a season, depending on the storyline like phoenix/ dark phoenix. It’s just the cost of the current streaming service business model.
I 100% agree with you on X-Men '97, same positives, same negatives. But I have no clue how the comics work (or don't work apparently). I live in the Netherlands, and they stopped selling 'single issues' over a decade ago. These 'single issues' used to contain 2 or 3 US issues without the ads. Now they bundle complete arcs and storylines into inch thick books, releasing multiple books for longer stories, and eventually releasing a box-set of all the books in the story. Oh, and everything is obviously translated into Dutch.
This is the reason I gave up on reading comics and why I appreciate what you do with the "full story" video releases.

Thankyou Benny!!! Someone said it. There is way too much. Ive been trying to get into the Krakoan Era since like 2022 when Judgement Day came out, but I could never find a simple reading order or recap of events. I saw the other day that there are 727 issues in the whole Krakoan Era. 727! That might not be including Iron Man, or maybe it is. But multiply that by the cost of single comic issues, and you're broke, full stop. Although it may be a great story, 727 comics to read, is just way too much to enjoy it. I've been looking everyone to get recaps of events and where my favourites are during this 5 year Krakoa span like Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, etc, but in order to understand the story for each of them, I'm looking at more than 100 issues for each of them. So i thank you and your team for putting the time in to give us the Fall of X. But in order to understand it fully and read it all, i gotta read the Dawn of X, the Reign of X and the Destiny of X, (the other 3/4 of this Krakoan Era) which will kill me.

I feel like this is also my general problem with comic books. I love the characters but the entry point to understanding what’s going on compared with just picking up a novel is astronomical. I’d much rather get those characters from TH-camrs, tv shows/movies, or video games where events are condensed into easier to digest packages. That’s why I’ve been collecting Justice League vs Godzilla vs King Kong, it’s one 7-issue story with characters I love, instead of needing to follow 19 books for 3 years to understand what’s going on.

With the Krakoa era of X-men seemed to push for a new status quo for them instead of fighting another superhero team like the Avengers or the Inhumans for some reason, But after Hickman added new lore and reestablished their place in the marvel universe. Him abruptly leaving only for the long term plan to fall through and reconvene at where they where at originally is just comics always following this cyclical nature that definitely applies to the X-Men cus people always bring write different directions and reinventions of the brand only to never go anywhere. I'm glad X-Men 97 has made the X-men re-surge in popularity again but i feel like with most certain characters in marvel like spiderman don't have mainline runs that reflects the quality of other books or adaptations

Your problem with 97 isn't that big of a deal...as you've said many times, you love the show and loved the ending, you just think there could be more improvements.
I agree, comics are really hard to follow because they don’t keep a single storyline in one place. It’s broken up, and it breaks apart other stories that are also ongoing.

Lenore Zann did a great job reprising the voice of Rogue and she was phenomenal. The animation for X-Men 97 is not bad, it's awesome. It really looks like Jim Lee's drawing of the X-Men coming to life. I enjoyed watching X-Men 97. I'm well aware with what's going on in the current 616 continuity of Marvel Comics, especially with Blood Hunt, Incredible Hulk: Age of Monsters, Fall of X(which should've been an 8 issue event), Wolverine Sabretooth War, Zeb Wells's Controversial run on Amazing Spider-Man, Deadpool & Wolverine WWIII. Plus Hickman's Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Black Panther, and Ultimate X-Men in the new Ultimate Universe.
Other than that, I love X-Men 97 even though I'm well aware of everything that's happened in the X-Men comics since the start of the Krakoa saga which continues to Fall of X.
I have the X-Men Fatal Attractions Epic Collection.
The animation looked horribly cheap and lack of energy.

What you brought up as ''the problem with Xmen'' was honestly far more then just a problem with the Xmen. It's a problem with comics in general but especially Marvel Comics.
Ironically, they try to force you to buy a million comics to make as many sales as possible, but it actually just stops new fans from getting into comics because it's too intimidating, makes many current readers give up on trying to keep up and winds up actually HURTING sales.
If I want to read a manga, basically ANY manga, I just pick up issue one and go from there. If you need to use a spreadsheet just to follow a storyline, then that's just a poorly organised run and I as well as many others just aren't gonna bother.
Some people will have a problem with it and some people won’t just my opinion tho.

My problem with X-Men is the US vs them attitude when most mutants born are born to non mutants. The message SHOULD be that mutants and non mutants are all still human.
I think that’s the narrative conflict within the marvel mutant community isn’t it? Some see it as Us vs them and others don’t see it that way

You're right. I love X Men 97 but it is moving super fast for me too. Seasons lasted longer in the 90s since folks didnt have that many options back then. Now in the streaming era, it's hard to sell a season with 50 episodes in it
One thing not touched upon in this video is the change in writing for modern X-Men comics that comparatively lessen stakes compared to the past. In the past, it was a running joke that X-Men wouldn't stay dead for long due to various occasional plot contrivances used _sparingly_ when you actually count the real numbers, but modern X-Men writing has them literally resurrect (slightly different on a technicality, but functionally the same thing) as a _regularly occurring_ plot device convenience because of part of the power set of a mutant who's almost certainly a self-insert of one of the writers. X-Men used to be about feats of heroism against long odds, using (usually) different abilities to complement each other and ultimately work as a team.

Honestly this is why I usually just buy the omnibus books that organise this stuff so I don't have to think about what books I need or not need to have read.

Magneto and Rogue had a son named Charles in comics, they were having romance for 34 years till 2018. in the show Magneto is 50 and Rogue is less than 40, not a big deal. They ve been through too much pain to be together.

After House of X and Powers of X, Marvel screwed up the plan. It was not supposed to go on forever. Hickman had a plan and they ditched it because HOX and POX were so good.

X-men came on Saturday mornings in the 90s. Also seasons in the 90s had way more episodes and more cheaply made so they had more time flush things out
They were cheaply made but some of the animation looked better than this show

When I got into comics, It was back in 1988. To catch up, I used to buy 4 th editions from QVC in bulk. So many comics. That was like the only way. Bigger yearly issues, I went to the library. By 91, I was good to go.
Thank you for making this video. After the gala and its events I’ve been struggling to find what I need to read and what I didn’t and finally just gave up lol
1:40 I did the exact same thing with my family! New episodes of Batman TAS and Justice League premiered every Friday at 7pm on Cartoon Network with repeats every day at same time so after dinner at 7pm, especially on Fridays, the kids and I would watch Batman/Justice League and cheer.
I bet you also watched Johnny Bravo, PPG, and Courage the Cowardly Dog. Back in the day, Cartoon Network on Friday night was 🔥.

This is why I stop reading comics. Too much bouncing around, and not enough money to justify buying all supplementary materials.
With Marvel and DC this is why I do hardcovers and collections. I don’t buy the monthly floppies anymore. It’s just too expensive. Plus, I also read Manga and other independence occasionally and I watch anime and play video games.
I thought it moved fast too. But great to see, I hope this makes way for more animated shows. I’d rather watch animated vs live action.
