Honestly I was still a kid when X-Men Origins Wolverine came out so I really didn't understand at the time what the big deal was about it, like at that age I wasn't very discerning about VFX quality or writing quality so it was still super cool to me at the time just to see Wolverine's origins in a movie or Gambit and Deadpool
It would be funny if Headpool in Deadpool and Wolverine is the decapitated head of Weapon XI/Barakapool from this movie. If you didn't know, a post credits scene revealed that he was still alive. Edit: Unfortunately, he wasn't. Huge missed opportunity for Ryan and Hugh to make fun of that version again.
Rewatching all these movies recently, origins biggest flaws are barakapool and the confusing motives of the wife, the rest is just your average action movies cheesy one liners, it’s not groundbreaking stuff, but it’s nowhere near deserving the hate bandwagon it’s had over the years, it’s just a silly comic book movie, and that’s all I need it to be
I absolutely love the part in X-Men: The Last Stand where Pyro says he wishes he could've killed Prof X and Magneto shuts him down so hard, saying that Charles has done more for mutants than he'll ever know

I’ve always said that in all fairness about the claws, in this movie they’re BRAND NEW HOT OFF THE PRESS adamantium so I thought it would’ve made sense if they looked less affected
I would like to add that in Last Stand Storm getting to do more physical stuff like her spinning tornado/hurricane move was great and I remember as a kid watching the behind-the-scenes of Halle Berry doing that.
They made Juggernaut a mutant specifically so they could use him in the film due to the contract Fox had with Marvel at the time. Only mutants could be in the X-Men films, even non-mutant supers who are part of the X-Men teams (such as Deadpool) had to be implicitly stated as being mutanta in the films.
XMA - I genuinely think they did Apocalypse they way they did, human-sized with prosthetics, was because they didn't want him to look too much like Thanos. I remember watching this movie for the first time on vacation with my family. It was fun to watch a movie like this with people who had never seen X-Men cause even I who was caught up still didn't really know what was going on. lol. I enjoyed it for what it was but it fell apart on rewatches.
The scenes of Logan's actual past are my favorites, which is why I think the X-Men Origins intro is so cool. I wonder why they never made a show or movie about Wolverine, let's say, 150 years before "the present day".
I love Dark Phoenix up until the scene after Jean makes Professor X walk up the stairs, feels like a Batman V Superman scene, but before that feels like a more tense Civil War
I had already checked out when mystique died. I know it was to raise the stakes on Jean’s mental state but they made me follow and route for a character for three movies and killed her off for not much more than shock value to me
@@ethanwoolard9668 if it makes you feel better they killed her off mostly because Jennifer Lawrence was over it. Mystique's death and Quicksilver's absence for most of the film are both the results of actor and scheduling issues rather than trying to do stuff for shock value
@@spatchmo6938 I was surprised that Nando considered Mystique's death earned because I felt like Mystique was cool in First Class and important in Days of Future Past, but after that, it felt like she only existed in the main cast because of Jennifer Lawrence being popular and they didn't really know what to do with her character.
With X3: I bet that if most of the Dark Pheonix plot wasn't there and Gene Gray were replaced with Scarlet Witch, it might have gone over better. With Origins Wolverine: a simple remaster to fix the CGI is all it needs. With Apocalypse: they should release a director's cut with the mall scene reinstated. And with the rest: they are just fine the way they are.
I appreciate that the franchise wasn’t afraid to title some movies without “X-Men” in the title. Like allowing a Wolverine movie to just be “Logan” or The New Mutants. And even releasing Dark Pheonix as JUST “Dark Pheonix”, which is kind of dumb but I do respect it.
I was so excited for The New Mutants back when it was originally slated to come out. And then it was delayed for so long that I forgot it was a thing until I nearly missed it in theaters. It's really sad it ended up the way it did when there was so much potential.
I feel like the Cyclops transition from rebel to stick in the mud makes sense overall but would’ve been fun to see it as a gradual transition from a hypothetical scenario where things continued
I see Cyclops with stubble as a representation of him being broken. He also has it in Wolverine and the X-Men where he’s also lost Jean. He sometimes shaves it when he gets with Emma, showing he’s healing. I like that detail with Cyclops. Also, I really like how Cyclops is portrayed in Wolverine and the X-Men.
My big plus for X-Men movies people don’t like is from New Mutants - As a huge New Mutants fan the movie wasn’t exactly what I would have wanted, but did they absolutely nail the casting, for the women. Blu Hunt as Dani was really impressive, but man Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik and Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane were absolutely perfect. I can’t imagine anyone better for either of those parts. Those two should be held up along side Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, RDJ as Iron Man, and Christopher Reeve as Superman for perfect Superhero movie casting.
Agreed, casting was note-perfect with Heaton, ATJ, and Maisie. Also shout-out to Nando for Kelsey Grammer as Beast, likewise absolute perfection. I was so delighted to see and hear him back in The Marvels.
The deleted scene from Apocalypse, along with all the 80's style choices, and the cast...make it work for me. I honestly really like the movie. Days of Future past is the best for me out of that era... but I like Apocalypse 😂
I found Simon Kinberg's direction in DARK PHOENIX pretty solid He was able to give the movie an identity of its own, rather than trying to replicate Bryan Singer's direction Unlike Brett Ratner tried to do in THE LAST STAND
Apparently, he held ‘Apocalypse’ together while Bryan Singer was going through some sort in f melt-down, so the cast trusted him and advocated for him to do it. They still should’ve picked another story; there’s SIXTY YEARS worth of plotlines to adapt.
Nando: I have a project in the works about Magneto… Me: *sigh* Magneto again? Nando: and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants Me:*clasps fingers* you have piqued my interest.
Why no mention of an incredible Quicksilver scene in Apocalypse? It was *the best* Quicksilver scene in the movies, maybe ever. I must have watched it like 20 times and it never gets old, so well done.
Thank you. As someone who unapologetically LOVES the Fox Marvel Universe, it’s heartwarming to hear someone else give a lot of these under-appreciated films some recognition. Especially in the case of Dark Phoenix, which is definitely in my top 3 favorite X-men movies.
How could you not mention the scene in Dark Phoenix where Jean uses here telekinesis to make Prof. X walk up the stairs? That scene was chillingly brilliant!
Hot take: As far as I am concerned, I would take X-Men: The Last Stand over X-Men: Dark Phoenix any day. To me, X-Men: The Last Stand is just better in almost every object and subject way. Also, the costumes from the ending of X-Men: Apocalypse are perfect and should have been featured further. Maybe they can be brought to the MCU in the future.
i dont think this is a hot take? Most people enjoy some things from the last stand while a lot more people enjoy much parts of dark phoenix. Yes i watched the video of course but i mean in general for people lol.
@robbyb3ll4s Dude, most people don't like X-Men Last Stand and Dark Phenoix. Saying Last Stand is better than Dark Phenoix isn't saying a lot. Dark Phenoix is so bad that it makes Last Stand look just a little better. Key word A LITTLE.
I recently watched “the new mutants” as I have never seen it, I enjoyed the heck out of this movie. Like actually loved it, loved a bunch of things I assume most people loved but I honestly wish it could have gone somewhere, always been a sucker for sunspot so
NGL, the horror angle really got me. That's probably because I'm not much of a pure horror fan, but the effects were still really well done, especially since super hero, horror is not something you see very often
That film would have been great as a 1-hour TV pilot. As a 90 minute feature film with two bears and email progress bars and like 3 themes it's a total mess.
10:51 no, I can't deny. Sadly they wasted all those amazing shots for the credits, when the WHOLE movie should have been like that! Just imagine what piece of art it could have been if they just had made a "historical" movie, with Wolverine and Sabertooth in it. Lack of imagination kills everything. Period.

These costumes are among the best there have ever been in any comic movie… 24:57 it was idiotic to just trash them. WHY?! Those costumes were right up there with Deadpool, Yelllow Wolverine, Thors first costume as well as Loki, Iron Man, and maybe Ant Man. The bright red CW Flash suit is really great too, Batfleck and Justice League Superman was great. Wonder Woman, and… I think that’s it. I'm so annoyed by Dark Phoenix because them exiting the X-Jet to a crowd of cheering fans should have been the ending to one of these movies to show them making a difference, but its used in this movie as a given and immediately questioned as a problem. Its crazy to me that Raven sees a a little girl with a Mystique action figure and its framed as a bad thing somehow.
23:22 - Fun fact: Kodi Smit-McPhee was originally going to play young Logan in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. 32:03 - I remember that there were rumors that "Vuk" was supposed to be either Lilandra or Veranke the Skrull Queen in earlier drafts cuts.
28:03 - I always figured the line about the third movies being the worst was just an excuse - if we make a joke about it, we don’t have to put in any effort.
I would just bump The Last Stand to C tier, there's enough interesting stuff going on and the action is entertaining enough that the low points aren't all that bad.
Apocalypse lost me when a rug pulled to one side was what awakened En Saba Nuhr. It worked with the Endgame Rat because of the Doctor Strange prediction as a setup. But it never happening when any of those worshippers went in or out? It couldn't be intentional, they wanted him to return. So they just never happened to move the rug like that. Somehow.
I love Famke Jansen's performance as Dark Phoenix; the writing really hampered her because her motivations didn't make sense but she sold it and deserved more praise than she got.
What I like the most about the X-Men movies is the fact that they never tried to follow the MCU's formula or its tropes, especially after it became a trend They never relied on nostalgia, the tone always kept consistent, and they always focused on the present And DARK PHOENIX kept that way They kept their sense of individuality. Even the score was different in each movie.
To be fair the mcu didn’t start to rely on nostalgia until Endgame, which was in 2019, around the same time dark phoenix came out they didn’t get a chance to do it
I think it makes more sense for First Class, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix to be a trilogy, since they're dealing exclusively with the newer cast, where Days of Future Past deals with both sets.
The problem with the scene where magneto stabs the nazis un first class Is that they say they are un Villa Gesell, Argentina, but Gesell Is a city by the beach, nowhere near the mountains
That’s just funny. It’s always hilarious when American productions use real place names for stuff that takes place in foreign countries when anyone with any basic knowledge of the place can see how wrong it is. They think we don’t notice, but we do.
I just saw Dark Phoenix last night and I didn’t really care for it outside of two things: I liked the opening where they saved the astronauts and I thought that this was the best Nicholas Hoult looked in the Beast makeup.

17:46 I love this part of the movie for Logan. A character made to feel shame for being like an animal who has to deal with the cruelty of man is just such a great dynamic
My theory is that the name Trask is handed down because it is a corporate name given to who is head of the place and that is why you have two characters who don’t look like each other
The wolverine is excellent, but the ending is weak, and origins I feel is a great movie overshadowed by the leak, the bad version of deadpool and xmen movies
DOFP and Apocalypse were both shot in native stereo 3D. The Wolverine was shot in 2D and then converted to 3D. Dark Phoenix was also a conversion but never got a 3D Blu-ray release so the complete version of the film is currently lost media. All actors are great at their job (hollywood is the top 1% of the top 1% so very competitive). All bad acting you see is bad directing. That being said Mark might be the one exception…
I don't think he was *that* bad in AoE.
Rewatching all these movies recently, origins biggest flaws are barakapool and the confusing motives of the wife, the rest is just your average action movies cheesy one liners, it’s not groundbreaking stuff, but it’s nowhere near deserving the hate bandwagon it’s had over the years, it’s just a silly comic book movie, and that’s all I need it to be
I absolutely love the part in X-Men: The Last Stand where Pyro says he wishes he could've killed Prof X and Magneto shuts him down so hard, saying that Charles has done more for mutants than he'll ever know
The extended cut of The Wolverine is the one I watched. It adds some neat character moments and extends the village fight scene to include 3 people getting blended by an industrial snowblower.
The extended cut of The Wolverine showed the potential that an R-Rated Wolverine movie could have. And eventually we got Logan so yay!
@@pennywisethedancingclown2246 yeah watching it I was like "I can see the direct line from this to Logan"
@@JohnDontBeRacist Mangold and Jackman both campaigned hard to get Logan made the way they wanted it, an R-rated Wolverine movie that the fans have been waiting for. Plus the success of Deadpool helped as well. Without Deadpool, we likely never would've gotten Logan
30:34 - I read somewhere the original plan was to do a Phoenix movie to make you fall in love with Jean, and then Dark Phoenix to break your heart, but the studios nixed those plans and they had to compress two films’ storylines into one.
The entire movie was great
Last stand was the weakest of the trilogy, but it’s got a lot of enjoyment value, it’s not a bad movie, but it’s not a masterpiece, it’s just alright
@@tuttiman55 What made it the weakest, when its the only Xmen movie out of the trilogy where they actually fight as a team?
32:47 I really loved the score for "first class", by Henry Jackman
That cute little "meow" number in the recruitment montage is iconic
I will never forget magnetos theme ecspcially the scene where he kills Shaw with the coin
I can tell one thing that The Last Stand has above every other X-Men movie and that is the man, the myth, the legend - One Inch Spikes Guy
X-men apocalypses only redeeming feature is giving us another quicksilver scene. It’s awesome.
I know it was to raise the stakes on Jean’s mental state but they made me follow and route for a character for three movies and killed her off for not much more than shock value to me
@@ethanwoolard9668blame Lawrence for always giving up on her franchises after collecting checks..trash actress
@@ethanwoolard9668 if it makes you feel better they killed her off mostly because Jennifer Lawrence was over it. Mystique's death and Quicksilver's absence for most of the film are both the results of actor and scheduling issues rather than trying to do stuff for shock value
@@spatchmo6938 just a smidgen better
@@spatchmo6938 I was surprised that Nando considered Mystique's death earned because I felt like Mystique was cool in First Class and important in Days of Future Past, but after that, it felt like she only existed in the main cast because of Jennifer Lawrence being popular and they didn't really know what to do with her character.
"Acting isn't that hard, Mark Walberg can do it"
Jesus Christ, that is the single most violent thing I have heard Nando say
With X3: I bet that if most of the Dark Pheonix plot wasn't there and Gene Gray were replaced with Scarlet Witch, it might have gone over better. With Origins Wolverine: a simple remaster to fix the CGI is all it needs. With Apocalypse: they should release a director's cut with the mall scene reinstated. And with the rest: they are just fine the way they are.
"Is that because his name is Loggin'? Maybe." 😂
The Last Stand was a solid movie if you blackout every time they do the Dark Phoenix.
Keep crying
I see Cyclops with stubble as a representation of him being broken. He also has it in Wolverine and the X-Men where he’s also lost Jean. He sometimes shaves it when he gets with Emma, showing he’s healing. I like that detail with Cyclops. Also, I really like how Cyclops is portrayed in Wolverine and the X-Men.
K?
@@ParaplegicKeanuReevesThat was not a comment Keanu Reeves would leave! For shame!
Its breakfast club meets the shining whats not to like
Agreed, casting was note-perfect with Heaton, ATJ, and Maisie.
Genuinely didn't know New Mutants was a thing.
I found Simon Kinberg's direction in DARK PHOENIX pretty solid
He was able to give the movie an identity of its own, rather than trying to replicate Bryan Singer's direction
Unlike Brett Ratner tried to do in THE LAST STAND
Apparently, he held ‘Apocalypse’ together while Bryan Singer was going through some sort in f melt-down, so the cast trusted him and advocated for him to do it.
They still should’ve picked another story; there’s SIXTY YEARS worth of plotlines to adapt.
Dark Phoenix gave me the ending I wanted and I'm okay with it because of that.
I wanted to see the X-Men one last time before Disney could reduce them into clowns
@@Zombiesnyder13 That has nothing to do with my comment? I feel like I should do the Sir, this is a Wendy's meme.
What I meant is that, just like you, I walked out satisfied
@@Zombiesnyder13 Cool.
Nando: I have a project in the works about Magneto…
Me: *sigh* Magneto again?
Nando: and the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants
Me:*clasps fingers* you have piqued my interest.
@@GodofGears i flipped them in my brain i meant people enjoy dark phoenix less than last stand
I wish in last stand. Rogue almost went through with the procedure but ended up not doing it. Like in the comics and TAS.
Shout out to the Dark Phoenix soundtrack, it didn't have to go that hard but it rips!
I hated the "inside of you there are two bears" thing everyone's heard, but I liked the rest of it
That film would have been great as a 1-hour TV pilot. As a 90 minute feature film with two bears and email progress bars and like 3 themes it's a total mess.
I don’t believe you
10:51 no, I can't deny. Sadly they wasted all those amazing shots for the credits, when the WHOLE movie should have been like that!
Just imagine what piece of art it could have been if they just had made a "historical" movie, with Wolverine and Sabertooth in it.
Lack of imagination kills everything.
Period.
Days Of Future Past > First Class
But First Class is the very next movie in my ranking of X-Men movies. Logan is ahead of both.
its really true that magneto has been carrying the franchise
When naming the positives for Apocalypse, "And I know Olivia Munn really wanted to play Psylock, so I'm happy she got to." Had me rolling.
The shot at Mark Walburg was unwarranted 😂😂
It was very warranted lol
There are very few TH-camrs that I genuinely look forward to watching and get excited when they upload. You are that TH-camr for me. I seriously get so excited every time I see that you posted cause It’s always a banger. I actually just appreciate your videos so much
"Eat your heart out Hawkeye"
I understood that reference!
Nobody else has said this so I had to
These costumes are among the best there have ever been in any comic movie… 24:57 it was idiotic to just trash them.
Those are all of the best comic accurate costumes and when you go by sheer numbers XMen has most of them and they just threw those in the garbage after 5 seconds.
I cannot wait for Nando to make the Toad Solo film

WAIT IN LAST STAND THATS PSYLOCKE???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
#IBlameAviArad
There's a background character that gets credited as Psylocke. So if that counts, then yes, but not really.
That's a lot of question marks bud.
Apocalypse and X3 are watchable at least. Dark Phoenix definitely wasn't great, but I wasn't expecting it to actually come out in the first place.
Congratulations on 300k mate, massive achievement and I love your content so it is very well deserved!
Dark Phoenix's Tragedy on the Last Stand soundtrack is phenomenal.
I actually like New Mutants. And Dark Phoenix has one of my favorite CGI abominations, or a glorious final act. It's a mess, it's heartwarming, it's awesome!
I will say the scene in TLS..X3 where prof X nd Jean Grey are having a telepathic battle at her house with all the action going surrounding and outside of it, is in my Opinion the best scene throughout the whole Xmen Fox series. Everything bout it just works, the score the pacing,
The battles and the lack of dialogues just Works
X-Men origins is my favorite X-Men movie
Origins Wolverine is also has one of the only live action references to the Akira bike slide.
The directors cut for the Wolverine is amazing man
Colossus was underused in Last Stand. We should have had a fight between him and Juggernaut. What a missed opportunity. Thank you Deadpool 2 for redeeming that
I really enjoy Fox's X-Men films and it truly made me a fan of the team.
Origins gave us the worst version of Deadpool, but the best Sabertooth.
Thank you for defending these great films, you just forgot on thing very great of all Fox movies : sincerity
Also I would like to say that characters arc are better in this universe than in MCU where characters are more empty and fan icones
I"m gonna rewatch that Juggernaut scene and you can't stop me 😂
U mean that one Juggernaut scene?
Oooo, a video I’ve already watched on Nebula, time to head there to watch another new video
I’ve always thought Vin Diesel should be apocalypse. Bald, big guy, imposing voice.
Somehow.
No it was clearly a secret cult so why would they leave it open while also trying to cover it?
I love Famke Jansen's performance as Dark Phoenix; the writing really hampered her because her motivations didn't make sense but she sold it and deserved more praise than she got.
What I like the most about the X-Men movies is the fact that they never tried to follow the MCU's formula or its tropes, especially after it became a trend
They never relied on nostalgia, the tone always kept consistent, and they always focused on the present
And DARK PHOENIX kept that way
They kept their sense of individuality. Even the score was different in each movie.
To be fair the mcu didn’t start to rely on nostalgia until Endgame, which was in 2019, around the same time dark phoenix came out they didn’t get a chance to do it
Uh, DOFP was full of nostalgia. They deliberately brought back the old characters and actors for that
I think it makes more sense for First Class, Apocalypse, and Dark Phoenix to be a trilogy, since they're dealing exclusively with the newer cast, where Days of Future Past deals with both sets.
5:32 L take, it’s always funny and still funny.
Was just about to write that 🤣 it will always be funny
Rewatched the original trilogy this weekend. Seeing the Dude who GRAPED Drake Bell pop up in a scene felt so gross.
“I would know… I’m Fragier.”
I do like how Havocs powers have "circles" I think different energy blast powers having unique pulsation frequency or if the edges of their blasts wobbled at different wave frequencies would be interesting way of showing they are different.
6:19 huh? Zero downside? You really think so?, seeing as her emotions can affect how her powers manifest I would say that an emotionally unstable storm would be huge downside, but maybe that's just me🤷♂️
True, but I think that's standard with mutant and superpowers is general.
17:46 I love this part of the movie for Logan. A character made to feel shame for being like an animal who has to deal with the cruelty of man is just such a great dynamic
I honestly forgot _Dark Phoenix_ existed… and I say that as someone who liked _Apocalypse._
The New Mutants didn't even get a conversion, showing how little they actually cared about the films at that point...
