Thats exactly what I thought it was and finally watched it on my own this year. I literally thought rape was part of the plot, that kept me away this whole time.
Yes, this, it was marketed to the wrong audience entirely. They billed it to men as like, "sexy horror movie!! megan fox!! hot!!" instead of marketing it to women as "megan fox kills, like, a BUNCH of boys and then eats them". So men saw it and didn't like the kind of movie it was, and women didn't see it because they didn't want to see the kind of movie they thought it was. Fox and the filmmaker did a really indepth interview on that subject a while back, I think for the 10 year anniversary.
The rock band sacrificing a virgin hits different now that we're aware a lot bands from that period were taking advantage of teen fangirls, Diablo Cody warned us.
I always thought the reason why Jennifer and Needy had the connection, was because Needy was the only person who actually loved Jennifer for herself rather than her body and Needy was the only person Jennifer loved, like for a "popular girl" she only has one friend so Needy was the only person she really had, which I think is why Jen goes after Chip, in a deleted scene Jennifer says she's the only person Needy has to which Needy corrects her saying she has Chip, basically condemning him. Also think this is why Needy ripping off the necklace basically powers down Jennifer, she no longer has power over Needy and has lost the one person she cares for.
I think it's like you say. Also succuby feed on love/lust, right? Maybe the reason why Jennifer weakens, is she lost the love that the necklace represented, when Needy took it off her. Basically to symbolize a broken relationship. One other theory could be that Jennifer valued their friendship so much, that with the humanity she had left, she surrendered because she didn't want to hurt the only person she really cared about and let Needy kill her.
Megan Fox deserves so much more than the hate she received, how Hollywood exploited tf out of her, how the marketing for this movie was incorrect, etc Even Megan Fox, to this day, says that this movie is the one she’s most proud of doing

What I love is how they focused the camera on Jennifer's face instead of doing a wide shot of the violence being done to her. A lot of these films end up being very snuff-like, and the violent murder of women tends to have disturbing sexual undertones. It forced the audience to empathize with Jennifer instead of focusing on the action or gore. On a related note: when Jennifer kills her victims, there are "tease" shots of her body, (the shadow on the wall being the most iconic, imo), where her sex appeal is corrupted into something horrific. I see why it made certain male audiences uncomfortable. They expected a horror fantasy. I do kinda love it, though, because it's ironic how the expectations vs reality perfectly highlight what the film was about. So the marketing made sure the theaters were filled with thirsty boys, and girls rolled their eyes and avoided it.
I am *stupid* happy y'all got a sponsor. We love to see our faves gettin' paid! I think part of the reason it didn't do well was the marketing. The studio was reeeeally trying to get the straight male audience, as the trailer shows. It's pretty much a "Watch Megan Fox be her sexy self for an hour and a half" commercial. So a lot of people were confused when the movie wasn't what the trailer promised. Plus, in 2009, before MeToo made a lot of people confront the ugly truth, having that truth shoved in their face - well, yeah, it didn't hit. The same thing would've happened to Promising Young Woman if it came out back then. I'm glad it's having a resurgence now.
i heard a big part of why Jennifer's body did poorly in theaters but ppl love it so much now is that the advertisements made it look like it was filmed heavily through the male gaze
this movie is so fun and crazy that I actually enjoy it far more than anything else in the horror genre....glad you guys are watching it to end the month!!
I haven’t seen anyone mention it yet, but the director Diablo Cody makes a brief cameo as a waitress in Melody Lane! This is one of my favorite movies and sparked my current obsession with feminine abject horror, I love it sm. Something about it is so…cathartic? Idk how to explain it lol. Also, RIP Colin, our emo king deserved better :(
i think the "you know what this is for- its for cutting boxes" is a take on the fact that most people monologue during these parts of movies and do some big speech on "this is for doing x y and z to me" but instead Needy just said its literal use of the knife as a way of saying you already now why i am doing this and i dont need to monologue what murdering you is for, because jennifer already knows. i think its her way of saying that she's fully done trying to reason with jennifer and she doesn't need to prove more points to her, expecially since after that she rips off the necklace to show that their friendship is fully done and this isn't something they can come back from. it's a line to show that there isn't anything more to say, she just needs to stop her- it defo might be a reach but that's kinda what i always thought the line meant
I love that this is now a cult classic , but I still feel the fan base is guilty of bi erasure. Jennifer literally says she “goes both ways,” but many viewers are quick to dismiss the relationship between Needy and Jennifer as anything but platonic. Even aside from the kissing, which Jen says they use to regularly do, She grabs Needy’s boobs, flirts with Needy, is jealous of Chip, tries to monopolize Needy’s attention, and exclusively goes after boys that Needy compliments (the jocks, the emo guy, and chip). Nothing in this movie is accidental. When we first see Jen and Needy someone calls them “les-b-gay,” and yes that is pretty basic bullying, but it also is there to plant the seed in the viewer’s head that there might be more to these two. The movie also purposefully frames the intimate scenes so well! It shows that there is more chemistry and heat in one kiss between her and Jen than in actual sex between Needy and her bf. But still people describe it as a “complex female friendship.” I have lots of female friendships and we never fooled around. It’s just reductive language people use about these character’s sexuality that hits so close to home, as a femme bisexual woman myself. It’s yet another layer of depth that the makers of the film put in and I wish people wouldn’t ignore it (Not Rizzo and Benji, they clearly get it!) Dang. I went and ranted on the internet, but let’s end the bi erasure pop stars
The marketing around this film was horrible. The writer & the actors talked about it. They tried to appeal to boys when the film is really about power dynamics within girl relationships.
I was OBSESSED with this movie, but it also came out right after I graduated HS when I was still dealing with catty girls and their drama, and the toxic friendship dynamic spoke to me!! I still quote this movie!! I say “Hell is a teenage girl” and “I am going to eat your soul, then shit it out!” and “I can take care of myself, I've been using the Bowflex” almost daily!
Omg you have to react to ‘Promising Young Woman’, ‘Pride and Prejudice’ (2005) and ‘Sense and Sensibility (1995). We need Emma Thompson movie reactions!
Devil’s Kettle is a real waterfall! There isn’t a town named after it though. The waterfall is along the north shore of Minnesota, about half an hour from the Canadian border, and the hike out to it is fairly creepy if you go by yourself on a rainy-ish day when no one else is on the trail. Can confirm from personal experience.
The movie is sort of inspired by a true story. July 1995, 15 year old Elyse Pahler snuck out of her bedroom and never returned. She was only meant to meet some classmates but they sacrificed her to the devil to make their band famous.
The marketing team that was in charge of teasing and promoting the movie marketed the film to straight college men as a movie specifically about Megan Fox’s hotness. The movie was clearly written for girls and the gays, so it did really poorly, historically so.
The scene were they kill Jennifer is so hard to watch, makes my heart beat so fast every time, it's eerie. As a woman, that's my biggest fear and knowing that the sacrifice is based on a true story just makes it ten times worse. The actual girl was a Christian who was very naive and friendly to everyone and was murdered by a 3 evil boys who were obsessed with Satan and wanted to give him a sacrifice so that he'll make their band famous. They tortured her for hours and stabbed her in the throat multiple times and then stomped on her neck and head because she was fighting and dying slowly. Her death was extremely painful and they even came back to her corpse to r-word her multiple times, always switching up. The police didn't search for her over 8 months as they declared it a "runaway case" and the body was only found because one of the boys said he found God and feels guilty. Her name was Elyse Pahler and she was 15 years old. May she rest in peace. 🕊️✝️

EXACTLY! Hit the nail on the head there!
i heard a big part of why Jennifer's body did poorly in theaters but ppl love it so much now is that the advertisements made it look like it was filmed heavily through the male gaze
True!
this movie is so fun and crazy that I actually enjoy it far more than anything else in the horror genre....glad you guys are watching it to end the month!!
It was a perfect capper!
It’s yet another layer of depth that the makers of the film put in and I wish people wouldn’t ignore it (Not Rizzo and Benji, they clearly get it!)
Dang. I went and ranted on the internet, but let’s end the bi erasure pop stars
Honestly, this movie is so slept-on. Glad you guys had fun with it. Also, grats on the sponsor! Your ad was gold 😂
Note devils kettle is based off a real waterfall in Minnesota in Judge C.R. Magney State Park.
The marketing around this film was horrible. The writer & the actors talked about it. They tried to appeal to boys when the film is really about power dynamics within girl relationships.
Low key. Your scentbird commercial was so hilarious! I didn't skip it.
HELL YEAH! Trust, we hate ads like everyone else so the goal is to keep even US interested
All amazing movies
Not that these aren’t all excellent movies but the switch from gut-wrenching social commentary to sweet romantic comfort movie just made me lol.
No! Never the Pride and Prejudice 2005 version when you can have the 1995 version!
Marketing Department to the Director: “Omg Karyn you are so stupid.”
Poor Karen. Lol
The Mean Girls edit was PEAK Pink Popcast
People be talking about the movie and all, but I’m just happy that Rizzo and Benji finally got a sponsor!
🥰🥰🥰
I literally just watched this film for the first time the other day and wished you guys had a reaction for it. Perfect timing!
I love that you got the message behind this movie straight away
Devil’s Kettle is a real waterfall! There isn’t a town named after it though. The waterfall is along the north shore of Minnesota, about half an hour from the Canadian border, and the hike out to it is fairly creepy if you go by yourself on a rainy-ish day when no one else is on the trail. Can confirm from personal experience.
The movie is sort of inspired by a true story. July 1995, 15 year old Elyse Pahler snuck out of her bedroom and never returned. She was only meant to meet some classmates but they sacrificed her to the devil to make their band famous.
😫😫
This movie is literally so good, it’s deserved more
Also the Humor in this show is just A+
Thank you for showing us ‘Scents and SCENTSABILITY’. 😂
Gonna have to remember that if they sponsor our Bridgerton video
Honestly, this is my favorite horror comedy(if I can call it like that) among with "Nightmare on Elm street". Definitely my favorite Megan Fox movie!
The marketing team that was in charge of teasing and promoting the movie marketed the film to straight college men as a movie specifically about Megan Fox’s hotness. The movie was clearly written for girls and the gays, so it did really poorly, historically so.
The Righteous Gemstones reference!! "I'm more edgy now" *earring* 😂
We love that show!
Awww I love the little Bartok insert. Give a hiiiyaaa. And a hoooowah! And I keek her sir.
🦇
Omg that’s horrifying, it’s really disgusting what people are capable of
the allegory’s in the movie are amazing
Really feels intentionally written!!!

I love this movie so much and I'm so glad that you guys reacted to it!!!
great reaction guys, I love what you said about female writers in psychologically uncomfortable movies
This movie was based on a real murder that happened in 1995, it’s called the Elyse Pahler case.
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I found your review so hilarious. I was laughing right along with you both. Cheers!
Its a fun "camp movie". Megan Fox, love her. People are just jello.
Damn straight
Your sponsor story killed me!!! 🤣

maaaaaybe... Rizzo HATES Joe's inner monologging lol
in this lifetime you either want *to be with* megan fox or want *to be* megan fox
sometimes when I cry I recreate the her makeup scene in with my tears…
so yeah in my mind I’m as beautiful as megan
you ARE beautiful!
We should’ve had a drinking game where we all take a shot when Rizzo yelled “what is happening”!?
Omg another one of my favorites!!! Love the movie choices you guys pick 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Aww thank you, we’re happy too
I saw this opening weekend and enjoyed it. If anything, I thought it was too tame. This and Snakes on a Plane are two movies I will always watch.
This is such a good movie. Definitely hard to watch; the van/murder scene was one of the saddest, most horrifying things I've never seen. Amanda and Megan are so good; what underrated performances.
Ok i came across yalls video. And omg I love your editing
Thank you so much!🥰
Great sponsorship video. Really made it your own which I appreciate

"puncture wound, god that is so emo" is such a funny line
loved this video and the movie but the Scott Pilgrim reference made me instantly like and subscribe😂👌🏻
“HE PUNCHED THE HIGHLIGHTS OUT OF HER HAIR!”
That sponsorship was amazing 🤣👏🏼
Devils kettle is in Mn! About a 3 mile hike to the waterfall
The water hole is real! It was shot in wimberley Texas! I’ve been, it’s gorgeous
Megan Fox, Christina Aguilera, and Salma Hayek were my three gay awakenings.. the moment I seen them I was like so I'm gay now 🤣🤣🤣🤣 25 years later and I'm to gay to function and the gay cousin in my family 🤣🤣
Omg Rizzo where did u get that scream hoodie it is so cute!🤩
Thanks! Random Amazon find lol
Ok this is my fave movie reaction for Jennifer’s body lol
Thank you!!😊😊
The more I learn about this movie the more I love it
calling Adam Brody a discount Adam Levine?
absolutely not, Adam Levine could NEVER be Adam Brody
😂😂 apologies!!
If Rizzo showed up like Jennifer, Benji would have to get out his break up stake. HI-YA!
Definitely would have come in handy! Haha
I loved Josiah’s Halloween Costume. I was so struck by it that I forgot to comment on the post. 😂
loved this reaction!
Loved your comment!
"Gawd this reminds me of Texas"
