hey so obviously this isn't like a normal video or anything. I just wanted to make a quick little one about Bottoms because this movie is NOT getting as much publicity as it should. It's not meant to be a review or a video essay or whatever. I just really liked the movie.
i love you man your vids help me to fall a sleep
Surprisingly no one commented yet
Are you going to review courage the cowardly Dog?!
Hoii
thanks! i actually wanna give it a watch. hadn’t heard about it before.
it’s so funny how the guys are always in their football uniforms throughout the whole movie 💀
lol its like in glee where the cheerleaders are always in their cheer outfits
Even in the scene where Jeff is having sex with Hazel's mom. He still wears his shoulder pads. 😂😂
@@spiritflurry5461 I mean its understandable why they would wear their cheer outfits all the time, it looks comfy and sexy, no need to be bother wearing other oufits, but the football uniforms look uncomfortable
Like the jerseys are understandable on game days but it’s literally so funny that they’re wearing their gear and stuff every day
this is late but it reminds me so much of my old (us american) highschool where during important football weeks they would all wear their fucking uniforms during the school day. like that wasn’t even exaggerating
"Okay, I might be ugly, but these aren't overalls!" is just... such a good line. I love that.
She's not ugly, though

A group of people at my college broke into a big theater on campus to host a secret midnight screening when it came out for streaming, and it was AN EXPERIENCE. Most of the theater was women + queer people, and everyone was almost crying with laughter during every scene
omg im so happy i was the 669th like
That sounds awesome
This is so wholesome omg
What do you mean by "queer people"?
@@TedEhioghae people who identify as queer? Why?
This movie is so ICONIC. The entire cast is hysterical. I can’t believe Nicholas Galitzine filmed Bottoms and Red White and Royal Blue back to back. He said RANGE.
the fact that the 4 things i know that man from are purple hearts, red white and royal blue, bottoms, and cinderella just SCREAMS range

I honestly watched this movie just cause he’s in it and he slayed his 5 minutes screentime

My group's started quoting Jeffs lines to men we think are like him. It brings so much joy
The fact that Alex makes fun of almost any movie like this but this is the one he loved shows you how much everyone needs to see this movie. Honest to God, it's in my Top 5 of the year, easy.
Yuh
It's alright
@DontReadMyProfilePicture.57bro stop bot
You say top 5 like it's a high bar, this year has been more misses than anything
@@ninjanibba4259 So someone who considers myself a "film critic", I truly think this is one of the strongest years in films in a while. I think it is for someone who is a horror fan. Legitimately on Letterboxd, 37 films this year have 4 stars or higher for me out of the 97 I've seen. I think financially, movies have been doing really bad, but in terms of quality, this year has been really strong, blockbusters and indies.
I personally love the 2 minute classes. They get in, talk, the bell rings. LMAO.
YES! And how the characters are hyper-aware of how short it is too. This movie is truly an experience
Idk how to explain it, but Hazel gave me representation I’ve never found in a teenage movie lmfao 😭 like in every definition of that word. Her character honestly just stole every scene they were in for me, even if they were just in the background.
i fell in love with Hazel while watching this movie honestly 😭😭
@@coffepot4800same (but literally she's hot)
Same! the person who like knows they're the third wheel but doesn't want to be alone and just wants to contribute and be apart of something. Oof if that didn't hit me with my gradeschool/ some of highschool experience

She's the autistic representation we needed
if you like bottoms, you should watch “but i’m a cheerleader” the themes and humor are pretty similar
That movie is a bonafide classic. Clueless is its more mainstream partner.
He should totally watch “but I’m a cheerleader “ !
omg but i’m a cheerleader is such a classic 😭
i love that the diner in bottoms was called “but i’m a diner” and the waitress’ name was natasha 🤭
Bro i love "but i'm a cheerleader"
I cannot stress enough how much Ayo killed this performance like her comedic timing and expressions were insane. Don’t even get me started on the delivery of some of her one liners! “Even though you’re a black republican, you’re the smartest of all of us”. Her and Rachel are definitely about to take Hollywood by storm
“Ted….”
“Ted!!!”

tbh i was under the impression this movie was alot bigger than it is bc im a lesbian and i am friends w a lot of lesbians n this movie was heavily anticipated for MONTHS in those spaces. so happy its getting its flowers from people outside that space bc it really deserved to be the movie of the summer. thank you for covering it!!!
real
would you be ok with a movie sexualizing gay male teenagers? Bottoms sexualized teenage lesbians
exactly, the sapphics on tiktok were going wild for it
I suggest to arrest every dude who says " women aren't funny" and as a punishment make them watch this masterpiece. It's a win-win situation.
I'll gladly say that if I'm allowed to watch this movie for free. It sounds amazing
So you'd prove their point? I went into this because I wanted a current raunchy comedy, but left disappointed. Just meh like completely disappointed
It's great because they actually made them characters, like Mean Girls, She's the Man, Bridesmaids etc. Not just emotionless, empty shells, they are just people.
And they weren't forcing a political point or being preachy. The writers just wanted a funny relatable movie and they succeeded.
Loved when they’re not good characters but also not bad characters ✨
It's honestly nice to see Alex talk about genuinely good stuff. Watching him trash on bad films is fine, but every now and again, he talks about things he enjoys.
One time he did it but the show wasn’t very good I think he may have been paid
He actually talks about movies he loves all the time. But he still always gives them video titles as if he hated them. This is the first time I've seen a title where he admitted straight up that he loved a movie. That's big praise.
@@bluecollarmenproductions or people just have different tastes. Have you consider that?
the "complicated" scene is easily one of the best "sad song before the climax after everything goes wrong" in a movie I've seen in such a long time, like man, that was amazing, at that moment I knew I adored this film
The way you described that so perfectly omg!😭
i hope they make more satirical comedy movies like this in the future. like the principal calling them ‘untalented gays’ was just peak satire.
I actually quote that for myself very frequently
To be an ugly untalented gay is truly an achievement 😘✊
thank you thank you thank you 😭 i haven’t laughed as hard as i did watching this movie in a LONG TIME. It was so effortless and shocking but in a way that never felt like uncomfortable or crossing a line at any point. as a queer black woman, it’s hard to find a comedy movie that isn’t either poking unnecessary fun at people with my identity or just plain unfunny. this movie is perfect for all demographics to enjoy imo which is so rare
oh pls, they are lots of movies abt ur type that don't poke on ur identity rather they try to force u to accept them and they a trash. This one just manages to pull it off because the writer probably
took a break from the internet and it's politics of identity and wrote a really gud movie
@@princeajaero7903 ah yes, the movies where black women are always the funny side friend with no depth! i love those comedies. and the writers of the movie are all active online which is why they’re aware how to write a movie that is extremely funny and also all inclusive.
Personnally i think those side friends are probably the best things abt those movies. And about the "all inclusive" get real there is no such as equality even in the world of nature. Fighting for what doesn't exist is wat is wrong with the queer community. Plus I am black to you know@@eggiramen
@@princeajaero7903 what do you mean by that? Queer people still have shit they have to deal with considering the don't say gay bill, being called groomers, and also how majority of media treats them as pointless side characters or characters who are solely there for company brownie points only to be removed from other countries. And it's especially worse for queer people outside of the west where their very existence is illegalized. Just because you don't see it in your radar, doesn't mean it never exist. Also just because the world isn't equal doesn't mean we can't fight to make it more equal, will you say that way during the 1950s when black people wer treated worse?
@@princeajaero7903 "Equality doesn't exist, even in the world of nature" -🤓
Cool man, but that's not even what they're fighting for. I mean, it's basically just like "Hey can we get treated like ppl too?" Then people with zero brain cells start throwing a tantrum about how the queers are trying to shove their agenda down people's throats. Just say you hate trans and gay ppl, it's less weird.
absolutely loved this movie. and i just love how the girls are awkward. in more recent movies and tv shows it seems like women have to be strong and independent and bold in order to be worth something and seen as not "weak", but awkward girls are a lot more common and equally as deserving and important. very refreshing to see.
“Annie, you may be a black Republican, but you're the smartest out of all of us!!”

That cracked me up
The fact that Alex loved the movie so much so that he made a whole video for it and appreciated every single thing that they got right is all the incentive I need to watch this movie.

@@KayPeeOpeeplot wise it’s similar to Superbad. Teen makes a huge dumb plan to hook up w their crush and ropes their friend into it. Booksmart isn’t too far off though
The movie was mad funny because it didn't take itself too seriously. plus I loved all the references to other teen comedies. I'm happy you enjoyed it like I did.
If you’ve seen this movie before, please rewatch and pay attention to the backgrounds because so much funny stuff happens in the background without even realizing on first glance and it’s a treat to watch 😂
Bottoms was the first time I went to a movie and everyone was laughing. Marshawn Lynch was so funny and the movie was just so well written. The dialogue in it just kind of slips under the radar in areas and that is what’s hilarious.
Bottoms achieved the impossible, Alex likes it unironically
When she talked about her "time at juvie" and it was literally just the hunger games plot i was DYING LOLL. this movie is funny af
Bottoms was my first real exposure to Ayo Edibiri, other than seeing a few of her standup comedy videos on youtube and the comedy in this movie is TOP TIER. It's a criminally under-watched film, the cast is amazingly hilarious, the plot and dialogue are new, funny and modern without being pushy, it just feels natural and real, like we're watching two girls do something to teen girls would do and it just happens to snowball out of control, and its SO GOOD
I was so happy in the theater. It felt like a safe space for other lesbians to just laugh and let loose around each other.
Even the guys who came with their girlfriends were DYINGGG in my theater, and everyone genuinely seemed to be having a great time. It was just a really nice vibe :)
literally got high in a theater with my gay friends and watched this and it was the best experience. nonstop laughter. some triggered guys left tho
I know it in my heart that Ruby Cruz will be a huge star very soon. Her performance as Hazel stole the show for me.
Also shout out to Ayo Edebiri (Josie) who a lot of us know from her work on The Bear. It's really cool to see her comedic acting chops.
I agree! Ruby is such a great actor she’s definitely gonna get her big break, If this wasn’t it already
The ensemble was hilarious. And Nicolas Galitzine was just enjoying every second of it.
nah the cast is actually known pretty well in the industry like ayo edebiri was in the bear series and even voiced april in the recent teenage mutant turtle film, then rachel sennot was in films like shiva baby (done by the same director as bottoms) and bodies bodies bodies - we don't speak of the idol here and plus cindy crawford's daughter kaia gerber also plays brittany. they are very ifykyk but this film hitting a peak with less marketing but rather through recommendations is beautiful. it's really worth a watch.
Bottoms was so good. The comedic timing, the acting, the plot was hilarious. I think it’s the best teen comedy of the year tbh.
I must be the target audience for this movie because for over a month before it dropped, I couldn't open YT without getting a Bottoms preview playing as an ad 😂 This movie was so fun and well done! I enjoyed the little callbacks to other movies like But I'm a Cheerleader. If you enjoyed this movie, I suggest Emma Seligman's other movie Shiva Baby that also stars Rachel Sennott. I also really enjoyed Theater Camp which Ayo Adebiri has a role in. Both were great movies as well.
Omg me too! I got non-stop ads for this movie for months! But when I asked my friends if they wanted to go see it, none of them had even heard of it 😂

i had high expectations for this movie and it definitely delivered. the comedic timing, the stacked cast of talented people and the humor. a storyline that’s been ton a million times but has it own unique twist that isn’t too over the top and cheesy. yeah 1000% one of my favorite movies this year. it DESERVES ALL THE AWARDS.
7:24 That the most realistic scene to happen in a movie featuring high school boys since the entire plot of American Vandal. That extra deserved a bonus for being fully in-character.
I found out about this film because the actress Ruby Cruz (Hazel) plays in it. She also played one of the main roles in the Disney series Willow. Here she again turned out to be a very interesting sapphic character 💅. I like that 🤩
my gay ass is in love with this woman idc if she doesn't know who I am
My bestie and I had to go through the absolute wringer trying to find a way to watch this movie in theatres. We were lucky enough that our local arthouse was playing it, but amc absolutely screwed this masterpiece over.
If Alex likes it then buckle up, this’ll be good
I saw it at an AMC like a month ago
My AMC is still showing it 3 times a day 🧐
It can depend on location. Some AMCs in my area are still showing it and others aren't - prob depends since in my area it's only playing at the AMCs that play smaller releases. But thank god it was playing cos it's such a good movie
I guess AMC is showing it now? I live in NY, so it's definitely not small areas.
I saw this twice in theaters (Chicago showed up for this movie) and I'll admit...I was probably the oldest person in the theater (Mid-30s surrounded by college aged folks). But man was it a great time, both times. People who were there to enjoy the movie and did.
In a lot of ways, the movie feels like an updated Strangers with Candy, the show from the early 2000s with Amy Sedaris and Steven Colbert. And while the humor of that show is very of its time (that ironic racism, ableism, sexism that was very popular) it had an absurdist bent in its humor that is updated, elevated and executed so well in Bottoms. Actively encourage it, will be watching again, always look in the background for even more gags. Just a packed comedy that, as you put it, knows what it wants to be and then is that.
I never expected Alex to actually... Like a movie.
“From the producers of pitch perfect and cocaine bear” 💀 💀
rachel sennott is such a good actress they did her so dirty in the idol that show sucked but she’s great in shiva baby and bodies bodies bodies, I can’t wait to see her in more good projects
They really did cause she's THAT GIRL
ohmygod thank you! i knew i had seen her somewhere good and i was surprised when alex said she has only been in the idol. yes, loved her in bodies bodies bodies; that was such a fun movie too
7:16 I think I can answer that without any special knowledge. The director told him, "Act like you're eating, but don't swallow the food. We don't want to replace it for a second take." Guy-in-the-background just took that literally and had fun with it.
I saw a few trailers and it made such an impression that I drove 30 minutes to the only theater playing it by myself. It was great. He honestly didn't even mention the best parts of the movie, like the gym and football scene or the background growth of the club members. 10/10 recommend ❤
this movie was HEAVILY marketed and pushed, well to us gay kids on tiktok

im so so happy you talked about this because bottoms is probably my favorite movie right now, and its so criminally under-advertised and no one knows about it!!! your video was amazing fr and encapsulated almost all of what i love about the movie (except u didnt mention hazel which is a crime!!! i love her!!!) and its jsut. so good JLKJFLKS
Not mentioning Hazel is definitely a crime!
not mentioning hazel, or just ruby in general, is indeed a crime. she did amazing in playing that oblivious character. And her acting in the confrontation scene with PJ was top-notch.
Yeah, Hazel was my fave, along with Isabel. Idk why, they just feel like actual people, like actual girls I would've met in high school. Not to mention they're both very pretty. For a movie that is supposedly about "ugly, untalented, gays", everyone in the cast is unbelievably hot.
The audible gasps that happened in the theater that transitioned into roaring laughter during the finale was one of the best theater experiences I've had in a long time.
i’ve seen bottoms 9 times since it came out, i LOVE IT SO MUCH
I've been following Alex for quite a while (basically since 2017) and I gotta be honest: I've never seen him this excited about a movie. I'm definitely gonna check it out
This movie, was so fucking funny, and honestly, I LOVED seeing non held back violence in a movie about teenage girls, Girls are never violent like that in teen movies, and I loved it
Mission accomplished, Alex. I’ve never heard of this movie before but I’m watching it immediately.
This movie is one of my favorites of the year. I love how self-aware it is, and Ayo Edebiri is one of my favorite up and coming actresses. So good!
not to mention hazel!!! im in love w her fr

I love that Alex has taken time to basically just a promotional video for this movie because he appreciates it so much, it’s really sweet and I’m totally gonna go watch it!😂
What did you think
i've been watching your videos for 4 years and i couldn't be more thankful for the kind of humor you bring to this dry app
Maybe find more funny TH-camrs...? Like don't get me wrong, Alex is hilarious, but he's far from the only funny person on the platform. There are millions of people creating videos - I promise there are at least some of them that you'll find entertaining... If you want a few suggestions based on you liking Alex, I'd try Drew Gooden, Jarvis Johnson, ChadChad, Scott Cramer, and Danny Gonzalez to start with.
The fact that this came from the same producers of Pitch perfect immediately told me it was going to be hilarious
you know a movie is phenomenal when alex doesn't end the title with "was the craziest movie" or "was a weird movie" and cant even poke fun at it because its just that good
I watched this movie like yesterday and it really is so hilarious and surprisingly gory! And as a sapphic lady creature myself, it felt so sapphic. Very lesbian idk, just a very accurate representation of what it’s like to a girl who likes other girls. It was funny and cartoony and somehow really grounded and relatable at the same time (and the entire cast is stunning in a very human way)
I dont think it is gory. Surprisingly violent would be more apt
'I am an extension of her. I go whenever she goes'
'I didnt cheat on you, AGAIN.'

YES THANK YOU. I loved everyminute of this movie and it deserves so much more love then it got.
I HIGHLY recommend “Book Smart.” Such a good graduation, high school movie.
Rachel Sennott is a big star to ME, haha. Shiva Baby is fantastic (same lead actress and same writer/director, Emma Seligman, as Bottoms), and Rachel was also hilarious in Bodies Bodies Bodies. She always plays a total dirtbag, and I love it. Also love Ayo Edebiri in The Bear, where she plays a very different character!
Ive already watched it the second time just oh how relatable and comedic it is. They really did a fantastic job, favorite movie of all time.
I just saw this yesterday with my friends. We've been having Friday movie nights for a year and this is the best one ever. I was literally smiling or laughing for the entire movie. also, Alex, I CANNOT BELIEVE that you didn't mention the boxer guy's cage being the the background of an early classroom scene.
I haven't seen this movie yet, but noticed one of the protagonists, Rachel Sennot, was also the protagonist of "Shiva Baby" and that movie was top-tier comedy as well. Highly recommend it!😂
The fact I actually was laughing at the scenes of the movie on the video vs laughing at the reactions to the scenes sold the movie to me. Will watch as soon as it gets to my country.
I swear to god I haven't laughed this much at a movie in YEARS. So good. So underrated.
i was so hyped leading up to the release of this movie, and I was definitely not let down when I finally got to see it. I've never laughed more/harder in a theater than I did watching this movie
emma seligman is such a legend already like i havent been less disappointed by a movie in so many years. It's exactly what i needed it to be
‘Bottoms’ is very much Alex Meyers coded. It’s zany and funny with a genuine personality at the centre. Ok was that too subtle? Idk

Alex, thank you so much for this video! I saw Bottoms twice in theaters because it was soooo good! Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri do so much strong acting work to ground the movie while balancing the crazy bloody reality it lives in. I wish we could have more movies like this! It truly feels like a lesbian Mean Girls meets Fight Club minus all the mental gymnastics of a Brad Pitt alter ego. Truly a work of art film! I WANT MORE!
Literally heard about this movie on stan twitter back when it was announced to be in the works. I literally forgot about it until I happened to get a trailer for it closer to the release and me and my friends have now seen it 9 times, 5 of which being in theaters and it hits EVERY. TIME. omg i loved that movie
Yeah you nailed it, this movie was bizarrely perfect. Every single person in the theatre I was watching it in was like genuinely losing their minds laughing.
This movie is such a validating example of how queer main characters can do queer things and have that be ‘the whole point of the movie,’ but still be universally relatable, entertaining, and appeal to a wide audience. When I was growing up, queer people were starving for any kind of positive representation in media. I had members of my own family telling me ‘idc if there are queer characters in movies but being queer can’t be the whole point that’s just annoying.’ While I was desperate to see queer characters being queer onscreen. This movie does that. And it’s fantastic. I think it’s an instant mainstream classic comedy. And it’s so nice to finally be able to talk to my straight friends and coworkers about a queer film we both saw and enjoyed independently.
to be fair I only knew about this movie because of Nicholas Galitzine playing a jock in it
Literally the ONLY reason I found out it existed 😂
Alex said at the beginning that there literally hasn't been any marketing for it and it's only playing in a few theatres (+only available digitally in a few countries)
So ya'll only finding out about it because your favourite actor is in it, isn't surprising at all. It doesn't mean anything else but just that.
From my understanding, the movie didn't receive huge promotions due to the writers' strike. So it makes sense that some people only heard about it due to their favourite actor being in it. Similarly, for many others, they heard about it after they found out that these actresses were in it : Ayo Edebiri (Emmy nominee + did tones of other projects this year alone, for example, The Bear) , Rachel Sennott (was the protagonist in the acclaimed movie "Shiva Baby") as well as Ruby Cruz (who was in the Disney+ show "Willow"). For them, Bottoms is how they found out who "Nicholas" is.
Raise your hand if you've been watching Alex Meyers for a long time🤚

The end tho- it's SO effing funny! I LOVED it. Comedic gold!
Ayo's delivery here had me cackling for a million years in the theatre 7:06
Alex neglected to mention that Marshawn Lynch is in the movie, presumably because he's trying to get us to watch this movie on its own merit. it looks hilarious & I might watch it!
I was gonna say isn’t that Marshawn!?!? Love him!! I also might watch it then. Lol
I was not expecting Alex to do a video for this movie but BOY am I glad he did. I guess if a movie features anything highschool related it isn’t safe from Alex!
