    Thank you Laura and your sweet Mom, this is lovely! (My Elna sewing machine is older than me!) My clever hardworking Nan was a professional seamstress, so I grew up watching her work and absorbing nuggets of her wisdom & knowledge. My sewing room is much smaller than this, however you've given me some concrete ideas to maximise my space and use my time efficiently. I love the use of pegboards and keeping everything visible fabric on shelves.

      The WISDOM of Nan's cannot be overstated! Regardless of their focus...sewing, cooking, loving, etc. Its frequently the case that families are spread out across the country and the opportunities for sharing their Wisdom is diluted or lost entirely. You have been blessed. : )

    I was blessed with several trips to England when I was much younger and began collecting thimbles from the various site-seeing souvenir stands. I later bought a hanging wooden case with a large capacity for thimbles. However, since my trips stopped, I had many unfilled tiny cubicles, and also an unorganized collection of small thread spools. Put together and WA-LAAA! There's a sliding acrylic panel that protects the thimbles and threads from dust; it pulls open from the right for access. Its just perfect for threads even if you don't collect thimbles! Looks nice on the wall, too. : )

    I was laughing when you mentioned when floppy disks were actually floppy! My husband and I, when we dated, played a computer game called Police Quest that required switching between 11 floppy disks while playing (yes, I am older than you!)

    Laura I am now a subscriber because of your mom’s sewing room! Both of you are so delightful! Your mom needs her own channel, or maybe, once a month, you could feature her and one of her projects😄 She is amazingly talented and obviously a great mom and a fun person! Thank you for featuring your mom!

    I really enjoyed this tour. I am 75 and have my mother's and my grandmother's sewing machines which are Singer machines I would guess 1940-50 for my mom but my grand mother's machine is older. If it was her original one it is probably from around 1910 because I heard stories that when my mom was little, my grandma would make her a new dress while she napped instead of doing the wash. My mom was born in 1919. Also loved that she turned her master bedroom into a craft room. What a splendid idea. I might do that in the future. I used to make all my clothes years ago and made many outfits for my kids but have gotten away from it because I just didn't have an area where I could leave it out. Just bought the smallest Cricut in January. I have done lots of knitting and crocheting. I even threw pottery until my first kid was born.ave done lots of calligraphy. I am definitely a crafter and have a sister and a niece that are true artists as in drawing great photos and scenes. Thanks again for the video.

    I'm so glad you showed the Multipurpose Bins being used to hold patterns! The large bins are the perfect size for holding patterns. I went to The Container Store and bought some the very next day after watching your video. Thanks for sharing!

    Love your sewing room. So big and full of light. I fold my fabric up exactly the same way. Then I have larger baskets from Target and sort it all by color and put it on my shelves. I'm taking up two bedrooms and the living room now. Thanks for sharing.

    Omg!! Thank you and your mom for sharing her craft room. I moved into our home 2 years ago and we finally cleared the area of boxes. I get the entire basement for my craft room. I have been looking for ideas on organization. I got a lot of great ideas.

    I thoroughly enjoyed a tour of your mom’s sewing room. I love that she can see all her fabrics and patterns; and used the vertical space. I have a room now that the kids have grown and I’m at the beginning of taking things out of their hiding places to organize in one space. So many great ideas here. I purchased a ”portable” Elna, all of 13 pounds, when I was 14 years old. I took it home by subway and bus! My question is, how do you keep your fabrics etc. from collecting dust, or do you go through them so often? ❤

    I am a sewer and I have gotten some ideas. A sewing room has so many machines and rulers and fabric , etc. If you are a sewer you totally get that. I am going to use some of her ideas. Thank you!!

    This is great. Your Mum has done a great job with organising everything.
    Just curious, when someone goes to pick some of the material on the shelf how do you stop it from all falling down?

    • @jjo5375
      @jjo5375 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A great percentage of the bolts are resting in containers used laying down. Brilliant, yes? INDEED! : )

      This is Laura’s Mom. The stacks within each shelf only would have 10-12 different pieces of fabric (varies because it depends on how much yardage of fabric there is of a particular color). So, if I need a piece from the bottom of the stack, I just pull the whole stack out, grab what need , then place the stack back on the shelf.

      @Sandra Fisher I use comic book boards (cheaper than the Styrofoam counterparts)to wrap my fabric so it stands straight up. It fits more fabric on the shelf! Can't figure out how to attach a picture- if you know how please tell me so I can send.

      I use those container bins for so many things. After a recent plumbing leak, I redid my under the kitchen sink area and used those bins for most of the area and then a couple of plastic shoe boxes with lids for the rest.

    How does your mom organize her patterns?

    • @sandrafisher2280
      @sandrafisher2280 ปีที่แล้ว

      Laura’s Mom here. I don’t have tons of patterns. I place them in the Container Store multi purpose bins (medium size). They fit perfectly! The Simplicity & Butterick patterns , that is. You can see them on the white shelf not too far from the colorful threads hanging on the wall.
