Exactly. I’m in no need to up my at home rig but I knew this video would be fun to watch and just listening to these pros jam is very inspiring too. Although I was interested in both pieces of gear Rabea was using in this vid.
Yeah I do. Extremely rare that I even consider buying any gear in the last few years (dad life, no time/money/space!) but Andertons often provides good geeky light entertainment.
I absolutely adore the Valeton GP200. Seeing guitarists like Nathania Jualim touring the world with it playing in front of thousands using nothing but a guitar and the Valeton shows how we just obsess over brands too much.
But he kind of did? He wanted a modeler. Yes, Lee suggested Valeton, but it is not like he didn't want it. The other one he considered, Bea himself said it would have been too expensive.
For £500 I'd go for an Orange Micro Terror head + 1x12 cab + Squier Sonic Strat (HSS) and you have a bit left for an inexpensive reverb pedal and maybe some extra distortion :-)
I went Pete's route when I was broke (Guitar + Amp + booster pedal), later then added the Valeton GP200LT when I had some extra money. I didn't leave my room for months because I was having a great time. great video it's relatable in real life
I feel like Anderton's actually read my comment from their previous video about doing challenges like this in the store rather than scrolling through the website. They are an online retailer who feels like a music shop where you have a great relationship with the staff and owner. That's their USP. I've spent thousands with them because of that. Videos like this are what create that feeling. More please.
i have the Spark 40... It does everything, sounds good, and is hard to beat! Try plugging it into ur studio monitors! i also have the bluetooth switch pedal. Excellent amp for the price...i looked into all the micro amps before buying.
Since the premise is that you already have a computer at home with speakers, the obvious choice for me would be neural DSP plugins, which are roughly 120 a piece, and that would leave 380 for a guitar, just my 2 cents 😁 nevertheless fun and entertaining video as always lads 🤘
I'd rather have Rabea's rig over Pete's. That said, I'd probably pick the same guitar Rabea chose and replace the multifx with a Katana 50 at the same price. Real guitar. Real amp.
Playing along strictly, I choose: Ibanez GRG12SP £279, and Yamaha THR5 £205. I love my THR5 and this ibanez is a shiny chamaleon green hard tail super strat. It's such a tough game though, an extra £50-100 opens up options that I could get excited about.
I know yall dont like to do used gear for these vids, but heres how I made my first rig: Peavey rockmaster: $40 from pawn shop Behringer 120w amp: $100 used from guitar center Boss ME 70 fx board: $140 used from reverb I-RIG (for a computer in): $20 on sale on amazon Second pickup and switch: free from my dad who upgraded his pickups when he was a kid plus the 2 hours it took to route out and install the second pickup Cables, strings, straps, capo, picks, etc: idk that shit adds up over several years but probably a few hundred bucks there
I got one of the Soloking mt1 moderns in mustard for £199 shipped. They had it on offer. Outstanding quality and components for the money. One reviewer said the Entwhistle pups were too dark. They are powerful and darker than some but easily lightened with EQ. Possibly the best value bit of kit I have bought in over 40 years.
Always fun hanging with the guys. I think either of those rigs are pretty cool, but in the end, I prefer a Spark just for the fact it has its own speakers. The Valeton does a great job at its price range, but i hate using my computer speakers to hear myself. I have a Spark Mini, and it's the best thing in its price range. The guitar Rabbea chose is sweet, so half a point goes to each side in this challenge.
Lee in sales mode, I already bought the valeton gp200 because of Andertons video review, now I think I’m buying the Solo king that the brilliant Rabea played. ( I already have the spark and it is great for busking also)
If you're a kid and want to form a band then Pete's rig is the better choice. The speaker isn't the best but it is darn good enough to get you learning to pay with others. If you need to gig with all your stuff then Rabea's rig makes a lot of sense. Better guitar and you can actually dial in your sound.
Been watching you fellas a while now with great videos this one for me was very educational and amazing to see the test with spark, I will be watching your video you mentioned ..thank you all involved @ Andertons 🎸
my home rig is a nano vintage head a home made 1x12 cab with a 70 80 speaker a harley benton sc hb plus les paul chours pedal an a boss od3 all for under 500 quid 😀
I'm giving the win to Rabea! The rig is more versatile and anyone could get a sound with it whether they wanted to play country or death metal! Pete's rig isn't going to cut it when it comes to the heavier stuff!
There’s a ton of high gain amps in the Spark App. And a plethora of distortion and fuzz pedals too. I play high gain on my spark all the time. Sounds great for practicing.
Just got a huge package of guitar pickups, locking tuners, bridges and other hardware to upgrade quite a few of my guitars. Looks like I’m going to be extremely busy for the next few weeks.
I'd go with A Vox MV50-BM Brian May Edition for £199, a VOX BC108 Guitar Cab for £89, a EastCoast JG Offset Electric Guitar for £119, a Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini for £49.99, and a Behringer FX600 Digital Stereo Multi-FX for £29.99, which comes to £486.98
I like Rabea’s rig better. More upscale guitar was the deciding factor. I chose a different first rig using TH-U effects, amp, and cab sim in the box, including monitor speakers. I added individual effects (wah pedal) and looking for a looper since setting up midi expression pedal and looper to computer TH-U software has me stymied. Now figuring out what rehearsal and first small club gig rig I should get next is a troublesome and potentially expensive decision.
With the spark, Pete really only needed a looper and the spark 2 has that so he could have saved 145 and spent a little more on the guitar, but I really don't think you could beat the versatility of the valeton and that soloking is awesome. I think Lee definitely picked the better rig for the money.
A lot of compression on Pete's first bit. Rabea's neck break angle looked a bit wrong at first before the demo. Still fuming about Fender fuse. Loved the Steve video.
Defo just come for the entertainment. Cheapest laptop and interface available and run Neural Amp Modeler VST for home practice. I've a valve amp and a modeler, most time just plug into the VST
Rabeas guitar is way better. The positive grid for a beginner is way better than anything else because of its amazing extras. Valetron is great too but beginner's would struggle more than with the spark which allows you to literally type in a song and gives you the tone.
for 500 USD from Sweetwater in the United States, I'd pick an HSS Affinity Strat for 299 and a Boss IR-2 for 199. I would consider the TC Ampworx pedals as well, specifically the Dual Wreck. This is also assuming, as in the video, you may have some computer and speakers to play with. Probably a Crush 20RT if I wanted a combo amp.
Worth noting, Rabea's sound was coming out of a quality interface and speakers. My guess is Anderton's is using the state of the art speaker systems. Not to detract from the playing though. Exceptional as always.
State of the art speakers are usually just as flat as possible. So for Rabea's "home recording" intended usage, it's perfectly fair to use them. I get your point that other home players may play through cheap earbuds if they had his rig though lol
It's a direct input rig, the sound is coming out of *your* speakers the same as it came out of *their* speakers. The sound is the sound. They aren't micing up speakers for a DI rig, that's why Pete's amp is plugged in DI as well through the headphone jack.
Just for laughs i went on Andertons website and here’s my choice. Squier sonic HSS £149 Blackstar debut 50R £189 Behringer DR600 reverb £30.99 Behringer VD400 delay £21.99 Behringer TO800 tube Od £23.99 Total £414.97 plenty enough to get leads and a few picks And a bit to play with
Mwell, Soloking does have ones that go four around a thousand Euros, which is an exception, but they have every price below that. Most are roughly around 500. - But they have a great variety and some really nice ones.
As a beginner my gear is a 200usd strat copy and an MX5 for a little over 400usd. I have a buyers remorse on the MX5 because I could have gone on an interface for 100usd as I don't know how to use the effects on the MX5 yet.
My choice would be a Hotone Ampero 2 Stomp ( but just over budget) or ToneX One + a few ToneCity drive pedals (ToneX will have delay and modulation) and a good pair of headphones. The best sound quality for the money in my opinion.
£500 rig I own 1 ibanez gio £170 2 boss dual cube lx. £150 3 boss gt1. £150 4 2 guitar cables. Plectrums £30 Total 500 Got the best set up for £500 The amp is only 10watt but if you add the gt1 boom wacka boom boom 🤪
Ive never liked playing thru headphones so the Spark works best for me. I also have the Headrush MX5 and its high gain tones arent as good as the Sparks but it has particle and shoegaze reverbs.
I'd go Behringer UMC22 (£36 on Andertons) + Amplitube 5 (around £100) and get the best guitar (or bass) I can get for £364, like a nice Ibanez, and then play on my PC (on which I can record and have anything in the background)
I feel like all of your budget shootout videos always over-represent Fender shapes. Would love to see some of them with an Epiphone Les Paul Special or one of EastCoast's Les Paul, 335, or SG shapes. I haven't tried an EastCoast since I'm in the States, but if I was putting together a home rig, I'd probably get an Epiphone Les Paul Special (ideally with P90s) and a Fender Mustang Micro Plus, and run it into a Bluetooth speaker when I want to hear it in the room.
If it wasn't for gigging, I think I'd maybe go Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster, and just use the free Neural Amp Modeler (NAM), maybe get a TC Magus Pro RAT, and use free delay plugins like Deelay, Supermassive. Or the P90 Epiphone SG, in Pelham Blue, and use NAM with same TC Magus Pro RAT, and maybe Behringer SF300 Super Fuzz and TO800 Tube Screamer. For gigging, I'd probably go with the Harley Benton TE-62 Telecaster and either the 60W Laney Foundry 1x12 or the Bugera V22 Infinium (there's a good price B-stock). Again with the SF300 fuzz/TO800 tube screamer.
Does anyone else just watch Andertons videos for entertainment now. I mean it's nice that there's shiny gear too, but that's not why I am here.
Yeh similar to old Top Gear - I’m not looking for a new car in that moment - I just want to see people that entertain me with cool gear.
Exactly. I’m in no need to up my at home rig but I knew this video would be fun to watch and just listening to these pros jam is very inspiring too. Although I was interested in both pieces of gear Rabea was using in this vid.
Yep! 😊
Yeah I do. Extremely rare that I even consider buying any gear in the last few years (dad life, no time/money/space!) but Andertons often provides good geeky light entertainment.
I was about to say this to exactally like top gear for me, but you beat me to it
"Rabea shopping" should be renamed to "Rabea following Lee around the shop in silence"
😂
Accurately simulating the experience of father buying their kids gifts this Christmas
Yeah Rebea didn't really get a choice.
😂
@@ehdforlife to be fair i'd probably take the store owners advice as well lol
The problem is that Rabea could make a tennis racket sound good. His air guitaring sounds better than my actual guitaring.
Would love to see a video where rabea chooses a rig next time
Lee asked how much he wanted to spend. So it sounded more like Rabea wasn’t 100% what his options were so he asked Lee for help.
😂
I'm pretty sure he did
Lee was like "hey do you like this stuff?" And Rabea went "oh yeah that's perfect" rather than "no"
Lee went into salesman mode. And he's good at it.
so well get that:)
Rabea saying "Not in this climate 500 pounds is nothing" is too true
and he looks like a disappointed little boy under the christmas tree gor the rest of the show
Love when Rabea and Pete are in the same video.
I absolutely adore the Valeton GP200. Seeing guitarists like Nathania Jualim touring the world with it playing in front of thousands using nothing but a guitar and the Valeton shows how we just obsess over brands too much.
I'd have chosen the Lt version. Cheaper and more than enough for me.
I know there are bucket loads of geniuses out there - not least Danish Pete - but Rabea’s playing does something to my soul.
I thought Bea was allowed to choose his own amp, Lee? 😂
But he kind of did? He wanted a modeler. Yes, Lee suggested Valeton, but it is not like he didn't want it. The other one he considered, Bea himself said it would have been too expensive.
Rabea is just on another level. What a solo. Bravo
The thing I take away from all these “cheap rig” videos is that if you can play like these guys, it sounds good regardless. Top notch as always.
Rabea's rig did NOT sound like a budget rig. It sounded superb.
Tbf that's just Rabea being outstanding isn't it lol
It's partially how incredible gear has come and how affordable good sounds can be found now. Bigger part of it is the Archer, not the Arrow.
The world needs a Pete and Rabea album. Dear God please let it happen. I feel like these 2 just bring the best out of each other
Thank god you guy’s are back in the shop. I was starting to think these videos were a thing of the past 😅
I didn't leave my room for months because I was having a great time. great video it's relatable in real life
Just loved the 'Funk Jam' with Rab playing heavy metal lead.
I feel like Anderton's actually read my comment from their previous video about doing challenges like this in the store rather than scrolling through the website. They are an online retailer who feels like a music shop where you have a great relationship with the staff and owner. That's their USP. I've spent thousands with them because of that. Rabea’s rig wins in my book.📖
I agree, sounded great. A rig I would enjoy myself
i have the Spark 40... It does everything, sounds good, and is hard to beat!
Try plugging it into ur studio monitors! i also have the bluetooth switch pedal.
Excellent amp for the price...i looked into all the micro amps before buying.

I have both the GP 200 and a katana 100. I like both but prefer the GP 200. It’s an amazing unit, especially at its price point.
More videos around the store please!! always liked those the best
LOVE the in store videos
Soloking brand I've got to admit do seem pretty amazing, even for double that money, roasted maple necks and stainless steel frets alone! Lovely
I know yall dont like to do used gear for these vids, but heres how I made my first rig:
Peavey rockmaster: $40 from pawn shop
Behringer 120w amp: $100 used from guitar center
Boss ME 70 fx board: $140 used from reverb
I-RIG (for a computer in): $20 on sale on amazon
Second pickup and switch: free from my dad who upgraded his pickups when he was a kid plus the 2 hours it took to route out and install the second pickup
Cables, strings, straps, capo, picks, etc: idk that shit adds up over several years but probably a few hundred bucks there
1:18 awesome fender trouble maker in white ,big 70s headstock , gibson vol, tone control layout, im really like it.
Rabeas's rig all day. And his playing too. Nice one.
I think the moddler has more potential to take you further. You could easily transition to live no problem.

Captian getting the exact Tele he would want is just showing how good of a guitar salesman he is.
Lee in sales mode, I already bought the valeton gp200 because of Andertons video review, now I think I’m buying the Solo king that the brilliant Rabea played. ( I already have the spark and it is great for busking also)

Great to see an ultra budget one as 99% of similar videos elsewhere are 1k, let's also see the other end...a 2500, 5000, and 7500 budget video(s)
They haven't done a sounds like with breaking the bank in a long time.
@@bkmeahanThey did it 2 weeks ago for Bullet For My Valentine
Absolutely awesome!!! Could watch this stuff all day long 🎸
Awesome, I have a valeton gp 200 and use it for my live rig. Its super solid and reliable. Rabea for the win!!!
Love these videos! So great! Thanks Andertons!
I bought the Valeton GP200R (Red one) thanks to your reviews. It's a shout alright. I run it into a katana and an AC30 in stereo and it's amazing
I'm giving the win to Rabea! The rig is more versatile and anyone could get a sound with it whether they wanted to play country or death metal! Pete's rig isn't going to cut it when it comes to the heavier stuff!

Pete's rig with Rabea's guitar, personally I'd go for an Affinity Tele+Marshall DSL1CR and a Landlord Looper though.
Im glad soloking is getting more popular in europe and uk, they have some very sick models which i hope will be available at andertons
I'd go with A Vox MV50-BM Brian May Edition for £199, a VOX BC108 Guitar Cab for £89, a EastCoast JG Offset Electric Guitar for £119, a Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini for £49.99, and a Behringer FX600 Digital Stereo Multi-FX for £29.99, which comes to £486.98
Yes I love the videos where you guys are filming inside the store

Gotta go with the fro... Sure Lee picked everything, but I love his playing...
Beaaaaaaa! So happy to see you!
Boss Dual Cube LX and the extras (BT, FS6). An Ibanez Superstrato. Prob, a pedal tuner. Thats all!
Let’s play “Lee Picks Your Rig!”
With the spark, Pete really only needed a looper and the spark 2 has that so he could have saved 145 and spent a little more on the guitar, but I really don't think you could beat the versatility of the valeton and that soloking is awesome. A lot of compression on Pete's first bit. Rabea's neck break angle looked a bit wrong at first before the demo. Still fuming about Fender fuse. Loved the Steve video.
How nice of Bea to play guitar for Lee in the Lee VS Pete budget guitar rig challenge 😂😂😂😂😂
I have a Valeton GP100 that I got for taking along on trips. I recently replaced it with a Two Notes Opus that I like a lot better.
Defo just come for the entertainment.
Cheapest laptop and interface available and run Neural Amp Modeler VST for home practice. I've a valve amp and a modeler, most time just plug into the VST

that first chop by Bea - shut it down. no coming back from that.
No link to the mud wrestling vid??
Worth noting, Rabea's sound was coming out of a quality interface and speakers. My guess is Anderton's is using the state of the art speaker systems. Not to detract from the playing though. Exceptional as always.
State of the art speakers are usually just as flat as possible. So for Rabea's "home recording" intended usage, it's perfectly fair to use them.

Does it matter? You hear through your own speakers... also most of the time Direct out sounds much better than mic'd stupio/ frfr wtv speaker.
Digital is the way to go. I never gig or play outside my home so when I finally decide to sell all my tube amps that's what I will be doing.
Wow, Rabea is on fire in this video!
Just for laughs i went on Andertons website and here’s my choice.
Squier sonic HSS £149
Blackstar debut 50R £189
Behringer DR600 reverb £30.99
Behringer VD400 delay £21.99
Behringer TO800 tube Od £23.99
Total £414.97 plenty enough to get leads and a few picks
And a bit to play with
Spark edge is incredible, that’s the new kid on the block
Used mexican strat and some cheap modeling amp like a micro cube or katana. Hard to beat that.
Mwell, Soloking does have ones that go four around a thousand Euros, which is an exception, but they have every price below that. Most are roughly around 500. - But they have a great variety and some really nice ones.
My home rig is very simple, Fender Mustang Micro and any guitar I choose to use
The soloking tele sounds superb
As a beginner my gear is a 200usd strat copy and an MX5 for a little over 400usd. I have a buyers remorse on the MX5 because I could have gone on an interface for 100usd as I don't know how to use the effects on the MX5 yet.
Bea is just crazy talented. His ear is immense
My choice would be a Hotone Ampero 2 Stomp ( but just over budget) or ToneX One + a few ToneCity drive pedals (ToneX will have delay and modulation) and a good pair of headphones. The best sound quality for the money in my opinion.
On the same budget, I'd probably aim for an Ibanez AZES40 for it's versatility and a Blackstar 1HTR MKII or a Yamaha THR 5 depending on availability.
£500 rig I own
1 ibanez gio £170
2 boss dual cube lx. £150
3 boss gt1. £150
4 2 guitar cables. Plectrums £30
Total 500
Got the best set up for £500
The amp is only 10watt but if you add the gt1 boom wacka boom boom 🤪
its a (DRAW) guys ,loved the vid more.
I feel like petes rig is much more newbie friendly. Just site down and play! But rabeas rig is way better for upgrading in the future.
Ive never liked playing thru headphones so the Spark works best for me. I also have the Headrush MX5 and its high gain tones arent as good as the Sparks but it has particle and shoegaze reverbs.
Easy win for Rabea, good sounding guitar and Modeler with loads of features and versatility.
Rabeas rig is a bit easier to use at home for a beginner in their room with just a guitar and one thing to plug it into, and it sounded great 👍
Please please do a video going through which wireless guitar system to get at a easy price. Really needed.
A Boss Dual Cube lx does about €180 and got phones as stereo line outs. Still some left for an Ibanez AZES or Squier.
That tele is sick for that price! Reminds me of my Joe duplantier signature charvel.
Must watch Anderton's - not to buy gear - but to hear Mr Honore's latest non-PC comments!
I'd go with Pete's rig, although I liked the Tele, but Pete can do anything he wants, without extra peddles or extra speakers
Boss Katana 3 is £269. And Andertons got a secondhand Sire Larry Carlton T3 for £229 in stock. That’s £498 🙂
Wow that’s a great combo/deal.
I will pick Petes rig because it looks more simple. So I think it will give me more Play time.
incredible playing by rabea. very impressed
This tele looks sick omg. Thats my next guitar for sure.
Rabea's guitar was awesome. But no sound output chosen? I'd have to go for Pete's rig (plus I have the Eastcoast guitar, which is really cool).
If the rest of the soloking guitars are anything like the S408 I picked up recently then they’re amazing.
I'd go Behringer UMC22 (£36 on Andertons) + Amplitube 5 (around £100) and get the best guitar (or bass) I can get for £364, like a nice Ibanez, and then play on my PC (on which I can record and have anything in the background)
Gotta love these distinguished gentlemen 😌
I feel like all of your budget shootout videos always over-represent Fender shapes. Would love to see some of them with an Epiphone Les Paul Special or one of EastCoast's Les Paul, 335, or SG shapes. I haven't tried an EastCoast since I'm in the States, but if I was putting together a home rig, I'd probably get an Epiphone Les Paul Special (ideally with P90s) and a Fender Mustang Micro Plus, and run it into a Bluetooth speaker when I want to hear it in the room.
Based on current prices, I'd go for the Valeton GP-200LT @ £200, and the Jackson JS32 DKA Archtop @ £300.
Rabea makes everything sound awesome.
What about the ToneX One pedal?
