I think they'd have given all the guitars to Rabea first and then to Pete in a different order, so they wouldn't have influenced each other in the decisions.
If Chappers were here he'd be like "That's a classic vibe, it's a burst finish, made in Indonesia, and the guy who strung it had tuna on rye for lunch." and he'd be right.
@@benlogan430 the squier certaily sound different than custom shop pickups. if you like the squier sound keep them. i prefer cust9om sound, and can recommed FAT50s custom shop picups for any strat.
Think about this, if they're struggling that much to decipher which is which, ask yourself if you need anything other than the cheapest version. I know I don't.
They didn’t have much trouble identifying the custom shop. They feel different. I can’t explain it but it’s true as much as people generally hate to admit it
This just reiterates my hankering for a American Vintage II 60s strat, the pickups sounded so good on that guitar! I do own three Vintera strats though(one Vintera II 70s strat and two Vintera 60s strats, one of which is a roadworn with nitro) and I love those guitars to bits! Cannot go wrong with whatever you choose! IF I could afford it I would have a Custom Shop too! Thanks guys...so much fun to watch these videos! also that Tone King amp sounded great!
My first guitar was a knock off strat back in the day. Did own an American strat but somewhere in my brain I felt it was too precious to gig. Many years has gone by and I finally feel like I actually have an opinion and taste in guitars now. Recently I was shopping for a student's guitar and tried an affinity strat. I was blown away. There was nothing lacking from it that would hinder actual playing at all. Super comfortable. Tone is subjective and I won't expect my student to tell the difference. So effectively, it's literally the perfect beginner's guitar. It even had a flamey neck albeit not on the spec sheet. Just a lucky example.
The newer classic vibes are probably good enough for 90% of players out there. Put a $200 set of pickups and a $50 set of tuners on one and you have a real weapon. And still for much less than any of the fenders.
Thanks for the validation. I've long held the opinion that the Squier Classic Vibe guitars beat anything that is Mexican save the limited edition artist guitars.
Some feedback if I may? The first thing I took from this video was that I wanted whatever that overdrive pedal was. You've included all sorts of super helpful links in the description, but not a link to the pedals used. I'm not that lazy that I won't go and find it on your website, but plenty of people are! Great video, love listening to Rabea play strats.
I hear ppl say this all the time "I guarantee 80% of your purchases are decided with your eyes." Well, you're wrong- and I can say that with great confidence- because I happen to know that for the majority of players, their buying decisions are decided almost 100% by their budget- money. At least 75% of players, if not more, it's probably more- never buy what they want, they buy the closest thing they can afford to what they want. Now if you take money out of the equation- then yeah, 99% of players would be guided by their eyes and what they've seen and heard online and from other players. But the sad truth is most musicians will never get there- they will always buy the closest thing to what they want that they can afford. It's rather disappointing that someone like Capt. doesn't know that- or maybe he does and just thinks that's depressing and doesn't make a very good video- and he's right, it doesn't- but it's reality.
Always fun to watch a Blindfold Shootout. So, where does the $4k price difference between the Squire and Custom Shop exist - Magnets, Pickup height, Selector Switch, Neck thickness, Finish, etc.? None of those items/features likely cost over $20.
Ooooooooh I have an idea! Get the OG then the side version of each guitar they make. As they copy every known design. Could go into the basses too. Anything from 335’s right up to the new Ibanez copies
the winner in this whole video is the American Vintage, guitar #1. Sounded the most liquidy and squishy of all. Custom shop sounded muffled and somehow rigid, even though quality might be better overall...
What is interesting is just how difficult it is to tell the difference between the guitars. Which is why these days I only buy low-priced guitars, since today's construction methods, and materials, are excellent. Does the price increase mean ten times, or whatever, better tone and playability?
If this tells you anything, if you want a cheap strat, get a classic vibe, and don't upgrade to a mex. Wait till you can shell the dough for a MIJ or MIA, just not worth paying twice as much for a MIM.
Maybe. But it would’ve been good if they played the latest player ii series, since that’s the most ubiquitous model out there, so not a completely fair comparison imo
Strange, when both players say about the custom shop, that itdont really sound like a Strat, when they say the cheapest one must be the cheapest one because it sounds like a Strat?
Didn't the classic vibes used to be around £440? If so, coming down £60 is a good sign sense is coming back to guitar prices. So long as they haven't used cheaper parts.
Not enough said about how these guys play at all not being able to see anything 😲I can't play like Pete and Rabea even when my eyes are glued to the fretboard 🙄🤬🤣🤣🤣
I desperately want a Strat but I just can't buy one. I have a speech impediment and every time I go into a guitar shop with my money, the assistants always ask me what I'm looking for. I reply 'a twat' and they kick me out of the shop.
Is it 7,25" radius on those? None of the guys tried to bend up a hole note behind the 12th fret. That's a thing on those which is not set up in a proper way. Even on 9,5" radius.
Sunburst always wins over blue or red. You had an Olympic white it might have been a contest. But the American vintage Sunburst did sound best as well.
Funny how everytime there's Bea on a video the comment section becomes so wholesome! ❤
Unless it's a Quad Cortex video. The Kemper/Fractal owners aren't quite so wholesome then.
That's always a good episode when Rabea is here
I think they'd have given all the guitars to Rabea first and then to Pete in a different order, so they wouldn't have influenced each other in the decisions.
We need a Les Paul version of this! Epiphone 50s, Epiphone Inspired by Gibson 1959, Gibson 50s Standard, Custom Shop R9!
Great playing by both. It's like a supergroup when Pete and Rabea are together.
If Chappers were here he'd be like "That's a classic vibe, it's a burst finish, made in Indonesia, and the guy who strung it had tuna on rye for lunch." and he'd be right.
And then playing it and sounding like two bulldozers crashing into a spring factory.
@@johntate5050 Even though I don't agree with you on Chapper's playing abilities, you still made my day with that vision :D
I wonder if Rob watches blindfold challenges he’s not in from a thrown being fed grapes laughing and saying “peasants”
what?
Rob wins the blindfold challenge just by listening blindfolded to the youtube video. In mute.
You mean throne.
Yes, nice picture 😂
@@greysuit17 game of throwns 🤣
Really liked the sound of the Squire
sire?
I’ve had two CV guitars. And the strat and tele had really good sounding pups for certain. No need to mod the pups at all.

Mabey Rabea and Matt can do one more sounds like for old times sake????
The American Strat sounded the nicest
And rabea is next level
I see blindfold...I click!
Is that only on Anderton’s videos??😂
The return of the king 👑
Oh I'm looking forward to this. I love these two guys playing in a love stratocasters so how could this video go wrong.
Thanks Captain.
Love these blindfold challenges 😍
that squier honestly sounded REALLY good
16:26 best part
So impressive to not hit any bad notes while playing blindfolded.
I like how this video just devolved into 3 grown men jacking off some strats at the end 😂
fab guys nicely done, loved the vid cap.
Enjoying the neck rubbing action at the end 😂
Really liked having both guys on. Becomes more like guys just sitting around talking guitars rather than this is better or worse…
Think about this, if they're struggling that much to decipher which is which, ask yourself if you need anything other than the cheapest version. I know I don't.
No. You can get the cheaper Squier Strats for £40. It depends whether or not you're a beginner and what sound you want.
They didn’t have much trouble identifying the custom shop. They feel different. I can’t explain it but it’s true as much as people generally hate to admit it
Should’ve taken the stickers off the pickguards 😂
I'd love to see one of these blindfold videos with Es style guitars if there isn't one yet! They're so fun!

Hmm... don't sell yourself short buying a lesser quality instrument. If someone can afford a higher tier instrument then they should buy that one
@@didamnesia3575 i dont fault anyone for buying what makes them happy. I have several guitars that are waaaayyyy above my ability. Lol
@@didamnesia3575 Thats kind of the whole point, they aren't lesser quality, just cheaper.
Got a 50s classic vibe great guitar just the usual squire trem tuning issues.
@lostinspacecamp4245 The classic vibes are great but definitely lesser quality. Hence, cheaper.
Buying a guitar from you guys hopefully on Thursday.. 🤞🤞
Do it blindfolded
Walk in the shop and say GRRRRRRRR-EEEETINGS.
The AV II, in my opinion, had the best sound. Clear, but not harsh. The Squier was competitive, surprisingly. It shows its value.
I'm outraged! No outro jam by these two. I feel robbed of my conserve.
"not quite as stratty as the others" defines every custom shop strat Fender makes... it's a different thing entirely, 9 times out of 10
Long time no see.
Great video!!!
Love these Videos ❤
Next: Les pauls, please! Epi vs Studio vs Standard vs Custom!
Thanks for the validation. I've long held the opinion that the Squier Classic Vibe guitars beat anything that is Mexican save the limited edition artist guitars.
I think you should have put in a G&L Legacy as well.
Love your videos
wow
The USA sounded the best to my ears, very quacky in that 4th position, always sounds magic between the 10th and 15th frets.
Bea’s playing helps too.
The classic vibe is the perfect first electric guitar though is you like teles and or strats or offset for that matter.
Its all about qc.

I have 10 classic vibes 5 strats, 5 teles
Perfectly good for anything, no need to spend $$$$$ on anything else.
Have you ever done a “Guess the Player video”? So each person plays same music through same rig?

I'm not sure how they don't immediately recognize nitro vs poly.
Sound wise I preferred the classic vibe
Had to rewind multiple times to listen to Bea’s licks again. Captains stank face said it all

Rob could Ace this test smelling them from through his phone. While it's turned off.
Pete’s head hung in self imposed misery at the very end. 😂.
Chin up! Pete 🤘🏻 😉
The riffage that was identified as Stereophonics I thought sounded like Dinosaur Jr’s Feel the Pain.

Get a CV and then when you have saved up a bit, get Monty's or whoever to do a scratch plate with new pickups and switchgear
Pick up 3 stats of the same spec and they all sound different that's why going into a guitar shop is so important 😂
Surprised the American Pro2 is not included.
All the others were vintage voiced. Pro2 doesn't really fit the comparison.
I liked guitar #1 the most out of all of them but not by much.
Get Chapman in to do the challenge but make him wear boxing gloves and ear plugs as well as the goggles.
Hell ya

The American Vintage II and the Vintera sounded best IMHO
The sound of four different birdcages.
CS really sounded rounder and less stratty. But I can't afford it. Can I get my pedal please. :)
proves again that the cost of a guitar doesn't make much difference, buy what feels right.
Almost 12x the squire to get the custom shop...fools and money continue to part company!
dunno if it is the chair placement or what, captain looks really small compared to rabea.
If Pete can read text in his goggles, it's proof there's light and they're cheating!!! (Just joking - great vid guys)
No Japanese stats 😢😢😢

What I learned from this video:
The cheaper the Strat the more it sounds like a Strat.
