I like how it is not technically a fight to the death between shirou and archer but a clash of their ideal they share to see if it was a mistake or not
I agree that's what makes the fight so beautiful, it's not just brute strength but like what you said a clash of their ideals to see who's right

i love how the visual novel makes it very clear archer could have blocked shirou attack he was just so hypotized when looking at what he was at the past questioning if thats really what he used to be
I still feel pretty weird and happy when I saw f/sn because I realized my dad is a pretty cultured person because when I looked up his old flash drive I saw the deen and the save files he have in f/sn and tsukihime and that was about a few years when I was born man I feel really happy

(My top fights in vn are archer vs shirou , kirei vs shirou and shirou vs saber alter(Spark Liner High) .These are not just fights. They very well reflect the ideal conflict or emotional bond between the characters.While I love most of the battles in fate, these are truly special battles for me.)

spark liner high is one of the endings in the visual novel in which shirou fights saber alter alone and wins using archer memory and beating her with kansho and bakuya triple linked crane wings(which to that i say HOW TF IS ARCHER BEING SLEPT ON WHEN A NERFED VERSION OF HIM BEAT SABER ALTER)

Thanks, i might get some hate but i actually prefer the fight between shirou and archer in the deen adaptation. The pacing, how Emiya was used, etc. etc. I wanted to keep the same feeling as the movie

Nah I prefer the Deen ver. for the same reasons. The Ufo fight while good on it s own, went another direction and imo downplayed Shirou's resolve moment a bit. Deen ver. carries the same intensity as the VN.

It undermines Shirou in favor of Archer's perspective which isn't bad, especially coming from the VN to see the fight in another way, but makes Shirou look like a mindless nut who won through sheer plot and mc luck unlike how close and personal it felt here, where we as readers knew and understood how Shirou came to that conclusion, to keep fighting.

EDIT: They also shouldn't have drawn it out so long, as I think what made the fight so impactful for me was how quick everything was, it felt like anything could go wrong in such an intense moment, and makes the fight's end carry more momentum.

An idea... but maybe you can combine the scenes from the anime and VN? Kinda like how a Japanese youtuber does it. He uses the soundtrack, and there are some cuts where he uses the scenes from the anime but for the most part it’s the VNs. His name is Saku.

They did Sakura's story pretty well. But Illya got gone dirty. If they didn't rush the middle portion it would have been good.

it does it just doesn't show any images whatsoever. They reference it before Shirou and Archer fight
The hanging is also figurative I think. We don't actually know how Archer died, it was a way to make us visualize how Archer was tried and killed by the same people he used to protect

If your talking about the anime than it is episode 19 Idealism's end, but if it's the VN than it is right before Shirou and Archer engages in a fight. It is when you enter The Einzbern castle and meet up with archer

Yeah, as much as I prefer Shirou vs Kotomine over this, I have to admit this scene is more important, and it was also the first scene in the entire VN where I just stood there in amazement of how special this story had become to me.

He cannot win this fight lol. He literally has a severe lack of resolve to fight when the one he fought was his past self.
@nameless_moon It's merely a personal preference and I just can't understand why archer would do all this especially since he knows the outcome of such a path and he was determined as hell throughout the majority of the route to kill or dissuade his younger self. I mean in most series if an future self goes back to warn a younger self then it's worth listening to.
Of course he wouldn't stop being a cg if he alters shirou's path but to just give up at the last moment comes off as a waste of time to me and him saying "the pathw as not wrong" makes me question why he did all this to begin with.
Additionally, I couldn't stand the betrayed by the one he saved and pushing one's ideals too far (granted nasu overuses this trope a lot). It's also my fault that I couldn't understand why shirou chooses to stick to his ideals regardless of the consequences. This led me to believe that because ubw shirou knows the outcome he will not be as angry if he becomes archer or if he meets sla bad end. Maybe Rin may help but I don't think it's her responsibility to keep shirou in check nor will she give up her life and dreams for him. Now ai don't necessarily to give up his ideals but he takes them way too far. Just look at archer and emiya alter. Seriously, the latter is just something else but those who like him can have him including the negative consequences.
Anyway, those are just my thoughts and you're free to disagree. If you can help me understand I will be most grateful.
@@thirdplanet4471 Resolve to fight vs resolve to oppress. To win vs to kill. Desire to save lives vs determination born from desperation. Will of one who risk everything he has vs wish of one who have nothing to lose. One with an end goal, and one who doesn't even know what he was fighting for.
Under normal circumstances, Archer's ideology is a sure win. But, in a clash of ideals, it is a guaranteed lost. Despair can help you win people with things to treasure, but, when the battle is about who is right and wrong, you won't last long.
Archer started his plan out of despair. And no, it isn't a waste of time. His fight against Shirou has fundamentally changed him forever, way more than any "killing yourself" could do to him. Had he won this fight, it would be even a true waste of time for him.
These two tropes are realistic tropes tho. What can I say beside, eh, as your words put, your problems ?
Shirou keep going his path as a hero, because, as he said himself, Archer has gone wrong way, but, the ideal of "saving all" is beautiful in itself. He might not actually want it himself at first, but he has grown to believe in and love this impossible dream. The path might be wrong, but the goal isn't.
Yes, it is offcially confirmed that no Shirou in the main 3 routes will become Archer. Rin loves Shirou, so she already has taken it upon herself the responsibility of leading him the right way. Don't forget the original purpose of Rin for Holy Grail War was just "to win", and to fulfill her father's dying will, her clan's responsibility. In a way, she is Shirou and Archer, who doesn't take their inherited will seriously, but genuinely want to do so due to different reasons from the owners of the will.
