The fact that in the game you can see what Shirou is thinking really adds to the depth of the battle itself. In the game you can feel how Shirou has grown from how calm his thoughts are even when he's inches away from death while in the movie it just feels like he's just beating up on Gilgamesh senselessly with powers that just came from nowhere.
Love the fact that the shot of Shirou clashing with Gilgamesh is tilted so Shirou is elevated above Gil so you can see how much he's overwhelming him. One of the best shots in the game.
@@snakebot4986 Poor Gil, he was really in panic when he pulls out Ea. I mean, Shirou was ready to cut off his arm, but Gil never realized that until what happened...

ES21007 He says they're traced "at a glance." So it does take time, just... Barely any at all. He can trace a NP in the amount of time it takes for light to reach your retinas. Now imagine him processing that much complicated information in that short amount of time. Now make him do it a hundred times simultaneously. Shirou's brain is processing that much information all at once at that speed. That is insane.
contown731 yeah and all of those weapons are different and require differing amounts of mana to reproduce (some of them are C, some of them are A++ etc)
Well, look at the bright side. Since every weapon he sees is recorded/stored in UBW (and UBW just speeds/hasten the process), then it's more than likely that Shirou has tons of new weapons (swords, spears, axe, etc.) stored in UBW for him to use in the future (how many new weapons he got depends on how many weapons Gilgamesh's been throwing them in this fight).
Jesus, every weapon Gil throws at him just provides Shirou the chance to throw the exact thing back and cancel it out. The only weapon Gil has the cant be replicated is Ea, and his damn pride makes it impossible for him to be serious against a mere mortal. Shirou was very smart in this fight, he knows if Gil goes all out, he will lose. He plays it safe and strikes when possible, and by the time Gil can suck up his pride, it cost him.
@@Janhan_ The guy above is talking about during the fight. The moment you are mentioning is when the grail tried to attack Gilgamesh. He used it to fend off the hands or tentacles or the grail. So, Gil never used EA against Shirou. The only time an Emiya Shirou actually faced against EA was in Oath Under Snow.
@@MadZwe1 in the visual novel, gil pulls it out to taunt shirou. the only reason why shirou survived was that archer used rho aias at the last second, which was how shirou was able to know how to cast it
poppyface The only reason Gil even had a chance is because Archer didn't let Shirou know that he can project Avalon. Archer knew UBW alone is more than enough.
Miyuverse since he's a combination of both. He's basically HF Shirou only not quite as doomed from using his projection while at the same time also being able to use UBW (provided he has enough mana of course).
Emiya Shirou is probably one of my favorite fictional characters of all time and this battle right here was the culmination of all of his development throughout the route. His confrontation with Archer, learning that, yes, his ideals may indeed be foolish and could very lead him down a path of ruin, but there is still BEAUTY in having tried just the same.....and then introducing his own, slightly yet majory different UBW is an amazing moment. Just.....damn. Can't wait to see Ufotable adapt this scene.
For people confuse about the "owner" thing. Its that Gilgamesh's legend basically says he owns everything-that includes magic weapons such Noble Phantasms. However since he doesn't actually USE any of those noble phantasms(as well as those noble phantasm belong to other heroes) in his legends except for Endiku and Ea, he can't use their abilities so he is reduce to shooting them as projectiles, or use them as normal melee weapons. Shirou can copy any weapon AND use their abilities-at a cost of the projections being one-rank lower than the original and a heavy cost of prana.
Gilgamesh can use their abilities too. Did you read the battle agaisnt Berserker? Or agaisnt Saber? In the battle agaisnt Berserker he used Gungnir, the original Gae Bolg, which keeps its effect of always piercing the heart of the opponent, to take his last life. In the battle agaisnt Saber she said that all of those weapons had unknown effects.
SarzaelX Those were just the passive abilities of the Noble Phantasm, kinda like Gae Dearg's anti-magic properties. The weapons in the nameless proto-phantasms before they got used by later heroes. So while Gilgamesh got Gungnir, it doesn't have the Reverse Causality since that was an ability developed and used by Cu Chulainn himself. To truly used a noble phantasm is to say it's name which Gilgamesh doesn't do at all in any of the routes besides GOB, Enkidu and Ea.
SarzaelX Shirou/Archer can do it because they're abilities allow them to replicate the skills of the original wielders. So when the fakers are using Excalibur, they technically are Saber, or at least mimicking her enough to invoke her Noble Phantasm. Gilgamesh doesn't have that ability, since none of the Noble Phantasm have any wielders. Gilgamesh thought they were treasure and let them sit in his vault for his entire life. They were only use by later heroes.
Yeah, I watched the Anime first and absolutely hated Shirou. The most I hated was the Archer vs Shirou fight. Shirou felt like a 6 year old trying to say that he is right because he said so with almost non-existent logic in his argument. After watching the VN version of the fight, I actually understood him and don't hate him as a character anymore. Also the Shirou vs Herakles was better in the VN. The Anime was kind of shit in that fight. The Kotomine vs Shirou is also better than the Anime fight. Especially with the Light and Darkness by Hikari to Yami playing.
@@thatguy3000 Yes, you're right. Glad to see people realise Shirou's true character in the VN. The thing is he is not actually dumb, he knows that the logic and ideal are 'bad'. But he has a psychological disorder (PTSD) where he feels guilty if he does not help others. He was actually too intelligent for his age, when he was adopted by Kiritsugu he correctly figured out that Kiritsugu also suffers a similar issue and is using the hero of justice ideal to make himself feel better. After noticing that, Shirou also copied the strategy hoping it will make him feel better as well. That's how he ended up with this logic 10 years later. He helps others so he can feel less guilty that he failed to help people as a kid (in the fire where he saw people dying).
@@Nyphe and he also came to the conclusion that even if his ideal is "borrowed", even if it's not something that originated from him and even if it's hypocritical he still found beauty in it, wanting everyone to be happy for him is beautiful, he's such a great character
Great to see a reformed Anime-only watcher join the --dark side-- and read and find out how great the VN is. I just recently got into it myself. It's nice to see I'm not the only one in this time.
@@deuce5546 I wouldn't say I am gonna read the VNs for every Anime. If they are decent, then I am just gonna watch the Anime instead of reading the LN or the VN, also if the Anime is bad, I am just gonna straight up drop it and leave it there but F/SN is an exception, as Fate/Zero is literally the best Anime I have enjoyed and F/SN UBW ruined it for me. At the end, I just thought of reading the VN than just dropping it as I found Fate/Zero to be a masterpiece. The reason I like Fate/Zero is because it was like one of my first Animes. And also I watched it after watching Fairy Tail. The outcome of the fights in Fairy Tail were obvious as hell, the main protagonist was always gonna win no matter what in the end and watching Fate/Zero where it was quite hard for me to tell who's gonna survive and who's gonna lose was exciting as hell. That was one of the things I liked about it, since I got into it dark without even finding out who was the main protagonist gave me a great experience. Went into UBW with high hopes and felt quite angry how much of a disaster that was story wise. I always try to go for the plot and character developments and not the fights in every Anime. UBW only had good fights, not even a story that I would consider average was there. Gave the VN a chance since Fate/Zero was my favorite of all time and wasn't disappointed in the least, some fights were even better than the Anime's.
The point was that there are ways around that. Mainly, that he could defeat Gilgamesh in spite of being inferior, and he did so by exploiting Gil's pride and baiting him into close combat, where he was at a disadvantage in spite of higher -quality weapons.
I kinda prefer how the fight plays out here than in the anime. You actually do get a sense of how much the Reality Marble overwhelms Gilgamesh. The infinite number of swords being ready allowed Shirou to match and get close to Gilgamesh. The moment Shirou sees a weapon that can't be analysed, he instantly knows that its Ea and thus conjures his fastest weapon (Kanshou) to slice Gilgamesh's arm off before Ea could even be drawn. His fate was sealed the moment Shirou pulled him into Unlimited Blade Works. No matter what trump card Gilgamesh pulls out of Gate Of Babylon, they are doomed to come out slower than Unlimited Blade Works. On a different note, the mental image of Shirou chasing a one armed Gilgamesh with Kanshou is stragely amusing. I also love the fact that Caliburn appears during the slideshow of weapons. Sure, this Shirou sees Saber's memories and thus has actually never seen Caliburn. But its established in the Prologue that Shirou's image of his Origin is apparently in the shape of Caliburn.
Lackus Shock On the regard of Caliburn, that’s more than likely related to Shirou’s acquisition of Archer’s experience and memories, and it is possible Archer did see Caliburn.
@@shinji136 Considering it’s been said that Archer is from a timeline where he followed the Fate route, but slightly differently, he prob did see Caliburn.
GAR means manliness. So much manly that you cant help but be amazed by it. When we say Archer is GAR, he is manly and awesome... Actually the history of this word is funny. somebody wrote- I am gay for archer. But he accidentally typed GAR. Lol xD
I'm actually a little worried if this scene will be adapted well in Ufo's UBW since the anime lacks a lot of Shirou's inner monologues and we really need his monologues in order to understand this fight otherwise it will just look like an usual shounen asspull fight.
DaveSmith (1/2) You're so butthurt, they explained why Shirou was able to beat Gilgamesh pretty clearly. Admittedly, they didn't do this fight the way I'd expected, but it's still better than DEEN's failed attempt. I was personally fine with it, since we were able to see swordrain vs swordrain and Shirou fending off swords from Gate of Babylon while taking them out of the ground, but they made Shirou seem too much like a superhuman in that fight. I'm not worried for Heaven's Feel at all, though, since it was Miura(the director of UBW) who messed it up(he's also known for messing up another adaptation of a Type-Moon work, Kara No Kyoukai Movie 6.)
DaveSmith (2/2) But Miura's no directing HF. Tomonori Sudou(who's great at camera angles, atmosphere, and directing in general and doesn't shy away from adding a substantial amount of monologues,) who is one of Ufotable's veteran staff members, is. I felt like most of the second season of the UBW anime(except maybe episodes 20,24, and 25) felt pretty hollow(lacking in atmosphere, didn't really feel as serious as it should have) had lackluster directing and pacing, but I know that Ufotable will deliver on Heaven's Feel.
I think the opposite tbh, it sounds kinda generic to have a shonen hero shout out a challenge like that, but the calm, assured confidence in Shirou words when he speaks them to Gil in the VN have more feel to them than him simply roaring them out in the movie. Sure, sounds more *badass* shouting them, but has more impact in the VN portrayal of facing down perhaps the most powerful human entity to ever exist with 100% calm confidence in his ability to surpass and crush the King of Heroes.
Goes to show that despite Gilgamesh being a powerful Anti-Servant Servant Shirou is a Anti-Gilgamesh human and therefore can match and even overpower Gil
I think it was a lot more badass in the movie when Emiya Shirou screamed "King of Heroes, do you have enough weapons in stock?"" but this was cool too!
I love the original and the OVA, but honestly, I feel like the OVA version of Shirou vs. Gilgamesh left a lot to be desired. The battle between Shirou and Archer was much better, despite how much simpler it was by comparison, because even in the movie there was a lot more emotion to it. It went out of the way to make us actually care about what happened to the two of them. Gil...just kind of pops up in the final act and does his usual "play around until it's too late to regroup" gig.
He has physical strengh. But lucks major skills. Like swordmanship or technique. All he does is throw stuff. If you get in range to strike him before he uses EA its done. You won. And EMIYA can definitely do that
Technically true as he notes that if he tried to go against a normal servant who spent their life mastering their NP, he'd lose even with infinite swords, but Gil who merely owns his weapons and being a master of perhaps 1 (Ea), Shirou would be at an advantage as he can draw upon the knowledge to use the weapons he has.
Seems any psuedo godlike entity can be surpassed by a simple human with enough balls in the Nasuverse (as in nearly all shonen anime series tbh xp), Shirou can beat the original first Hero, while Zelretch could beat (?!) the Type-Moon and even stop the moon from crashing into the earth when the Type-Moon tried it xp (p.s, that was before he became immortal, so he was still a pure human)
I find the movie-version lacked the most awesome part of the swords from Gate of Babylon facing off against the swords from Unlimited Blade Works. That and Gilgamesh Ea'ing Shiro earlier (and Archer's hidden manifestation of Rho Aias).
3:57 it was at this moment that i stopped hearing "ZASSHUUUUU" and started hearing "IEYASUUUUUU" the fact that zoro and gilgamesh share an anime together is mind blowing, why am I just learning about this
Truly will be a shame if Ufotable actually changes this fight to have Gilgamesh put up a fight. Of course, that's what will happen, if only to drag it out for 2 episodes. The best part of this fight is simply how badly he gets his ass beat down.
+DreadArkive really i think ufo fight messed up a little. The whole point of the fight was that shirou was rushing gil so hard that all he could do was react while in the ufotable fight it didnt seem like there was that much pressure on him. Also gilgamesh was able to push shirou back which would have gave him time to regain his composure which is what shirou in the vn tried to prevent from happening. Still the fight was amazing and certainly better than the movie
What the fuck are you people talking about, the movie was literally a rushed version of the VN that skipped out on a fuckton of details. It has no merits, it was godawful, with the only strong points being the very, very few moments where they actually followed the VN rather than skimmed through it.
I know this is an old comment but seriously, the movie sucked. I mean its bad enough they skipped over some of the more epic points like Berserker's Last Stand or Rin beating the snot out of Caster amongst other things, only giving us these short uninteresting parts. But you know what, I'll get over that. I'll get over the fact that they butchered Berserker's death. I"ll get over that they rushed through every last single thing in the entire novel. I'll ignore it all. But this right here, Shirou vs Gilgamesh is where I draw the line. Because they took UBW and completely destroyed the entire concept behind it. They completely butchered the entire point of Shirou using it, the whole point of Shirou being one step a head of Gilgamesh. I can't wait until Ufotable does this justice.
***** Cause DEEN Studio knows jack. It was such a pointless battle and it completely ruined the entire objective of Unlimited Blades Work. Not only did it ruin the battle, it ruined the characters as well. I mean Visual Novel Shirou was a complete badass, calmly standing there before the King of Heroes saying his iconic "Do you have enough weapons King of Heroes" line in just a way that made you think, wow...he's gonna kick a fair amount of ass now. Movie Shirou? Creates an infinite number of blades, grabs one of them and wails on Gilgamesh like a goddamn psychopath on LSD. Guess it was too much GAR for the King of Heroes to handle.
Doesn't matter if some words have another peotic meaning, the translation shows archer's chant and not Shirou's. "Steel is my body, and fire is my blood." has nothing to do with "My blood is of iron, and my heart of glass." Same happened with Netflix translation of the UBW anime.
inuzumi You don’t understand how the novel is written. In Japanese there’s something called furigana, which is additional writing placed on top of other writing to indicate pronunciation or alternate meanings. The English part of Shirou’s chant is the furigana for the Japanese part of it which is written in hiragana and kanji. Both are entirely correct. Also, the English chant Shirou says is not Archer’s chant at all, and the fact you think it’s Archer’s is nonsensical, as they only share their first two lines and everything else is different.
Well Zeltrech is just so badass even the church the Association and most likely the World itself don't want to mess with him and it was never revealed whether it was before during or after the fight that he stopped the moon if it was after then he would have been bitten by then
This is better than the anime adaptations. In the Deen movie, Gil immediately goes for close combat giving up his advantage and we are not shown how UBW counters GoB properly. In the Ufotable version they show how UBW counters GoB which is good but then we have superhuman Shirou. Plus, they had Gil looking like he never fought with a sword in his life. Jack of all trades master of none means having skill in various works. In the VN, "I can't believe I have to go all out against a fraud", *pulls out Ea before getting his arm chopped off* Not *open more gates* VN GOATED Deen was 👎 UFOTABLE was awesome but unnecessary flashiness and cuts. Still love it tho
Nope, I think the VN chant is better, as its exactly the kind of thing that would unnerve and aggravate Gilgamesh, if Shirou faces him with such calm and absolute confidence in his victory, that he will defeat him here and now, rather than him just screaming it out emotionally, sounds too cliche and has no real impact in comparison to Shirou's groundless confidence in the VN version.
When UBW is deployed, they don't lose a rank because Shirou is not Tracing them, they are already there. So there are no imperfections in their framework to which would cause a downgrade in rank.
Iirc, it's still a rank below. Shirou projecting them is basically a summon from UBW meaning it will always be a rank lower unless he makes it into a Broken Phantasm.
@@xenvj Iirc, it's all due to image. UBW copies any weapon shirou sees PERFECTLY down to the skill of it's user, and it remains stored there until he either uses his reality marble or projects them. Now for projecting, we know from the VN that shirou's projection are permanent as long as he has a stable image of them. But his brain can only handle so much information of a traced NP, that's why it causes the rank down. In UBW however there's no degradation. Basically, in UBW he doesn't have to concentrate or do shit, his own reality marble does it for him. And it does so perfectly. Meanwhile in the real world, he has to pay a prana cost for every projection while keeping a stable image of them
@@faresdadi9263 UBW ranks it down because a human cannot fully conceptualize a weapon through just sight. Archer himself says that he can make a "convincing" replica of Excalibur. "Convincing" and not perfect. He was already in the Reality Marble by then. UBW still requires mana to be kept active. Overall, in a battle UBW and a normal projection will cost just as much as each other in total.
@@xenvj ok right so there’s 2 things wrong with that you just said. 1. Archer cannot properly recreate excalibur due to it being a divine construct. He can make something similar (as he see in the FGO manga where he creates Excalibur image) but all it could really do is barely clash with the real thing, think of it as the same power ratio of comparing Excalibur to Ea. 2. Projecting in UBW literally costs nothing. The only strain on his magic reserves comes from actually producing and keeping the marble up. HOWEVER apparently with every copy destroyed it adds to the cost of keeping UBW up somewhat but how much it adds to the costs it never explained. But the other guy is wrong in saying that the ranks don’t go down, they do in UBW. But honestly that’s just a dumb gimic and way to nerf it not to make him too OP. Caliburn could not have damaged Hercules if it’s rank was reduced so much and it’s beam was still just as powerful. Hell even Caladbolg II was so fucking strong that it managed to severely injure caster just by SHOOTING IN HER GENERAL VICINITY.
So, gilgamesh is the owner, but Shirou can handle those swords much better than him? That is very humilliating for the owner. That a guy that come from nowhere is copying your tresaures, and using them against you. Gilgamesh makes a mistake: shout out that he will use Ea, with Shirou in front of him... It's a shame than the grail didn't let Shirou to finish off Gil by himself...
Gil isn’t a swordsman. He never was one to begin with. The thing that makes him as powerful and dangerous is the gate of Babylon. He’s the definition of a one trick pony.
@@baruzezero4693 and with the Help of GoB putting Saber's Instinct into overdrive as she knows how dangerous the NPs inside it since there are tons of Anti-Dragon NPs inside it.
I didn't catch Shirou saying he "couldn't match the ultimate one" and that Gilgamesh "must have the ability" on my own playthrough Shoutout to Archetype Earth
Nisi He was talking about servants in this regard, as his mention of “ultimate one” was not in katakana. Shirou has no knowledge of Arcueid, after all.
Not necessarily. He could have just quickly equiped his golden armor, or used Enkidu to slow Shirou down while he grabbed Ea... But hey, the protagonist has to win, right?
Eiyuuou It was stated that Gilgamesh was losing his composure and couldn't think of anything else but surviving. Shirou aimed at the fact that he couldn't let Gilgamesh calm down as he would have losed even in UBW, so he overwhelmed him and didn't stop. If the Grail didn't interfere Shirou would have cut him down anyway.
Due to being overwhelmed he indeed lost his composure. However, if he'd been able to grab Ea, it'b be bye bye Shirou. But yeah, that was the best way to make the series have a happy end.
Eiyuuou That's the point. Shirou cut off his arm precisely because he knew that if Gilgamesh had used Ea, he would have lost. Gilgamesh wouldn't have been able to activate it in the midst of the fight, but he could have used it to block Shirou's strikes, retreat, regain his composure and then activate it or just buy time. He admitted that inside UBW he was no match, so he aimed to destroy the Reality Marble. But honestly, Ea is a sure win card not only against Shirou but against everyone. A cheat like code that basically grants you the YOU WIN message.
Neh I prefer the speech that comes before the here I come king of heroes, it makes the quote make so much more sense, and gives grounding to whole thing rather than it just being a random one liner.
When Ufotable animates this scene, there will be much jizzing and joy among the masses. EDIT: Having seen the actual Ufo scene, I would like to retract my praise here. Ufo barely followed the VN and did not show Shirou's knowledge on how to fight Gil. It does show how he counters GoB with a rain of swords that shoots faster but for the most part, he Deens the fight with a shounen power-up, rather than a good old clash of swords.
protossoverlord09 www.deviantart.com/art/Unlimited-Blade-Works-vs-Gate-of-Babylon-314481387 As the picture says, it will be a glorious battle between Ctrl+C and Ctrl+X.
Eh, I still liked it. Even though there were things wrong with the movie version, it was still epic in its own way... Though not as epic as the original.
God it's amazing how much better this was compared to the movie. It's bad enough that DEEN had to take out so many important aspects of the VN but they screwed this up so badly. They screwed up Shirou's epic dialogue, screwed up the reasons behind UBW, it was all messed up. Instead we got a screaming Shirou, running and wailing on Gilgamesh with what I assume was just Caliburn, and this was apparently too much GAR for Gilgamesh to handle...the entire point of UBW was just...butchered.
How I saw this the second time I read it. Shirou: Call me Faker now! I dare you! I ****ing dare you! Gilgamesh: You damn Faker! Shirou: *cuts off Gilgamesh's arm* Gilgamesh: ARGH!
3.45 The fake Excalibur made in korea! To think that he should be able to use it without die, because he's using Rin's mana. However, i don't think that his excaliblast would be too powerful. At least he would be able to destroy a building. But nothing more that it... A servant can do it even without use an NP...
mmm yeah but you know? i guees there is no way that Gilgamesh could use EA against EMIYA since most of the times he uses it Gate of Babylon keep his enemy away from him so he got enought time to charge EA but since EMIYA has UBW GOB would be useless... of course if Gilgamesh uses it from his spaceship and willing to destroy the World then Emiya surely would lost.
Uh yes? But Shirou cannot use it effectively though, as like Avalon, it can only show its true power with Saber's mana. Without it Caliburn is basically just a Kanshou and Bakuya level NP.
cotelo It's an adaptation not a transcription. If you're expecting 1:1 copy from the VN then you're in the latter. Besides I anticipated ep 21 layout beforehand so it was still enjoyable for me.
TheOnlyBrave I expected ufo to depict Shirou's hopelessness better and his attacks were supposed to be devoid of any technique: pure strength and a misstep spelled death for him. That was the whole point of tha scene. There is no superhero. He is not strong. He is not strong at all. He fights risking his life, looking ugly and miserable. But... Who in the world can laugh at him?
cotelo True. I see your point. The hopelessness was sorta rushed back in ep 20. Shirou was suppose to be battered and beaten at that point, which should've prevented him from doing all those crazy acrobatics. Avalon healed him in ep 20 beyond point of what you said as Shirou's hopelessness. But I see it as a double-edged sword. Shirou's retaliation against Archer shows how he's absorbed all of the latter's fighting prowess, which suits the tone of ep 21 at that point. Besides expecting a 1:1 adaptation from the VN sucks the fun out of watching the anime.
cotelo It's kinda hard to swing a sword without any technique when you instantly record the blade's entire history and experience just by looking at it once. Shirou is something of an instant expert when it comes to swords--hence why he can use Kanshou and Bakuya with such incredible skill despite never dual-wielding swords even once in his life, let alone falchions. If anything, the only way he swings swords without technique is when he's literally burning through swords so fast that he doesn't even have time to fall back on instinct before he swings--in which case, neither does Gilgamesh, who for once is being outpaced in terms of bringing weapons to bear. Also, Gilgamesh being a full-fledged demigod, Shirou is not physically stronger than him. But when the strength, make, and durability of even two Noble Phantasms are exactly equal, one being smashed against the other with all one's force, at an awkward angle at that, understandably results in both swords being broken. And since neither of them care about breaking their Phantasms if it means achieving their goal, neither tries to prevent it (said goals being: break Gilgamesh's swords for Shirou, and block Shirou's relentless and potentially fatal attacks for Gilgamesh). What does Gilgamesh in is that Shirou can project a new NP into his hands nearly instantly, even faster than Gilgamesh can bring something out of Gate of Babylon and bring it to bear, and Shirou is sticking right in Gilgamesh's face to prevent him from spamming NP's at range to run Shirou dry of mana in replicating and blocking every barrage.
Honestly, out of curiosity I just went and watched the movie version of this fight. Terrible by comparison. It doesn't stand out above any other anime fight scene. The buildup is practically nonexistent.
Sebastian Philip Villahermosa Here's a thought why didn't Archer trace Nine Lives Blade Works when he fought Berserker in the Fate route? I sense plotholes :/
TheOnlyBrave you could say he didn't thought about it. berserkers weapon isn't a NP. nine lives is the technic. shirou traced his weapon without thinking about it. you could say archer didn't knew about nine lives
Sebastian Philip Villahermosa Archer using Nine Lives would just be pointless in the Fate route because i would take too much of a tole on him unless he was in UBW but even so it wouldn't work. the only reason Shirou was able to kill Berserker was because his defenses were lowered a rank so he was vulnerable to projected weapons.
German Shepard So Archer tracing Nine Lives Blade Works with Rin as his Master, who has a large supply of Mana, would be more exhausting than casting UBW without a Master? lol I call bs. And according to Type-Moon wiki, NLBW has no known rank, which still kills Berserker regardless of his
Ok I see that the VN was better than the movie, yet I still prefer the movie, only because I understand things better in visual. Sure I miss out on alot of detail, but I still prefer to actually see the fight
Kibito Akuya The chant comes in two forms, as Japanese hiragana + kanji and another on top with a furigana in katakana. The “I am the bone of my sword” part is the furigana, written in katakana as it is foreign words. The “karada wa tsurugi de dekiteiru/my body is made of swords” is the actual Japanese part, written with hiragana and kanji. His Demon Slasher Infinite Slash Equinox and other Anti Magic weapons further amplify his offensive capabilities. Akame demonstrates her mastery of assassination techniques, utilizing her lethal katana, One Cut Killer: Murasame. She combines her incredible speed and agility with various martial arts techniques. Akame's experience as an assassin and her Gozuki skills allow her to exploit weaknesses and strike with deadly precision. Asuna Yuuki, a skilled swordswoman, wields her Lambent Light Rapier and employs Sacred Arts. Her Goddess of Creation form amplifies her powers and grants her enhanced abilities. With her staff and vast knowledge of explosive spells, Megumin casts powerful explosions with her signature spell, "Explosion." While limited in the number of times she can cast it, each explosion is devastatingly powerful and can deal massive damage to her foes. Megumin's determination to land the perfect explosion makes her a force to be reckoned with. Together, this formidable team combines their unique powers, skills, and techniques to create a diverse and coordinated assault on Gilgamesh. They strategize, coordinate their attacks, and adapt to the situation, exploiting weaknesses and employing their individual strengths to overcome their opponent's defenses. Akame's assassination skills allow her to exploit Gilgamesh's vulnerabilities, striking with deadly accuracy. Asuna's rapier skills and healing abilities keep the team in peak condition, while Maka's soul manipulation and resonance attacks provide additional firepower. Shinoa's demon abilities and tactical insights disrupt Gilgamesh's formations and weaken his defenses. Emilia's ice magic freezes and immobilizes the enemy, creating openings for the team's attacks. Megumin's explosive magic deals devastating blows, overwhelming Gilgamesh with raw destructive power. Each member of the team covers the others' weaknesses and provides crucial support, creating a synergy that amplifies their strength. Their determination, teamwork, and unwavering resolve drive them forward, refusing to back down in the face of Gilgamesh's overwhelming arsenal. As the battle rages on, the team's combined assault gradually wears down Gilgamesh's defenses. Their coordinated attacks and relentless pressure force him into a defensive stance, preventing him from fully utilizing his vast array of noble phantasms. Eventually, the team finds an opening and delivers a final, decisive blow, incapacitating Gilgamesh and securing their victory. With their combined strength, the team of Naruto, Izuku, Luffy, Ichigo, Tanjiro, Asta, Akame, Asuna, Maka, Shinoa, Emilia, and Megumin emerges triumphant, having defeated the King of Heroes. Their victory stands as a testament to their individual growth, teamwork, and unwavering determination in the face of overwhelming odds.
Apolo Abel yes because even projecting it require a lot of prana that both Shirou and Archer doesn't have, using its ability will kill them outright. The only time they could use it is in Fate Extra and Heaven's Feel
He would die and it wouldn't really be worth it. Saber's true strength as a fighter is in her absurd amount of magical power from the Dragon Factor combined with Mana Burst. Her sword skills, while expert-level, are not really the creme de la creme.
The framing in the VN for static sprites is really good.

Imagine how fast Shirou's brain must be working to trace the make-up of HUNDREDS of NPs every second.
contown731
Isn't it the entire point of UBW that the swords are already there and he doesn't need to trace them?
ES21007 He says they're traced "at a glance." So it does take time, just... Barely any at all. He can trace a NP in the amount of time it takes for light to reach your retinas. Now imagine him processing that much complicated information in that short amount of time. Now make him do it a hundred times simultaneously. Shirou's brain is processing that much information all at once at that speed. That is insane.
contown731 yeah and all of those weapons are different and require differing amounts of mana to reproduce (some of them are C, some of them are A++ etc)
contown731 Shirou really must of had a horrible headache during or after this then lol
Actually in realta nua gilgamesh uses ea aganist shirou before. It happens before shirou uses ubw
@@Janhan_ The guy above is talking about during the fight. The moment you are mentioning is when the grail tried to attack Gilgamesh. He used it to fend off the hands or tentacles or the grail. So, Gil never used EA against Shirou.

UBW or the nine lived blade works?
Miyuverse since he's a combination of both. He's basically HF Shirou only not quite as doomed from using his projection while at the same time also being able to use UBW (provided he has enough mana of course).
I can't believe my swords are losing to this King of Frauds.
Can't wait to see Ufotable adapt this scene.
it's a shame that shirou is also probably the most hated and misunderstood character in anime.
Yeah, I hope ufotable gets his character spot-on in the second cour so that people won't hate or misunderstand his character :D
patrick watkins
Shirou may be a bitch in the last adaptation, but that's because that it only adapted 1/3rd of the VN.
Seph Angelo
What do you think about the Ufotable adaptation?
I hope it won't be a mediocre anime like the one from 2006.
He can do it too though. Shirou/Archer can use Excalibur after all, and hes not Saber.
They were only use by later heroes.
fbiuzz Ilya can also use Excalibur. Your whole comment was proved wrong with those five words.
I don't care what people say about the anime, the visual novel will always be the best.
6:31
Think this is the first time since Enkidu that Gilgamesh has been forced to acknowledge another person as stronger than himself
"At this moment..." only.
But well, only "this moment" count. Everything else is just theory and a bunch of "if" statement with no meaning.
I thought Gilgamesh acknowledged Enkidu as his only equal and true friend in the world?
" You're stronger than me *here* " he is not admitting that he is normally stronger than him, only that he is RIGHT NOW
I kinda prefer how the fight plays out here than in the anime.

I'm actually a little worried if this scene will be adapted well in Ufo's UBW since the anime lacks a lot of Shirou's inner monologues and we really need his monologues in order to understand this fight otherwise it will just look like an usual shounen asspull fight.
Too bad UFOtable failed
DaveSmith
(1/2) You're so butthurt, they explained why Shirou was able to beat Gilgamesh pretty clearly.
DaveSmith
(2/2) But Miura's no directing HF.
Yes, I'm butthurt, a well explained critical battle of the story got turned into a typical Shota screaming shit, of course I'm butthurt.
Same impression of ep 20, 24 and 25.
We can do nothing but hope that UFO doesn't make the same mistakes in HF.
Shirou's hair at 5:00 looks exactly like Archers
I have to agree with you. The shouting was exciting and all but the calm before the storm is what gives chills. =]
Heh. The way I saw it, Shiro doesn't mind being called a Faker. He just needs to cut up Giggles.
I came for shirou.avi, wasn't disappointed
Without his NP Gates of Babylon, Gilgamesh is among the Weakest Servants of all.
:)
Nah he's still got that Strength and Divinity. He'll be fine.
He has physical strengh. But lucks major skills. Like swordmanship or technique. All he does is throw stuff. If you get in range to strike him before he uses EA its done. You won. And EMIYA can definitely do that
EMIYA no he knows how to use them. He just doesn't feel like it.
No he doesn't
Ufotable did damn good
I literally jumped out of my chair when this happened
Cant wait to see this part animated.
3:44 Caliburn, Gae bolg, K&B and caladbolg ii; i think that Shirou can train to develop a combined technique with that nps.
I have a bone in my sword after watching this
Seems any psuedo godlike entity can be surpassed by a simple human with enough balls in the Nasuverse (as in nearly all shonen anime series tbh xp), Shirou can beat the original first Hero, while Zelretch could beat (?!) the Type-Moon and even stop the moon from crashing into the earth when the Type-Moon tried it xp (p.s, that was before he became immortal, so he was still a pure human)
5:42 Probably something that people came here for.
Can't for Ufotable to animate this scene.
I find the movie-version lacked the most awesome part of the swords from Gate of Babylon facing off against the swords from Unlimited Blade Works. That and Gilgamesh Ea'ing Shiro earlier (and Archer's hidden manifestation of Rho Aias).

it was at this moment that i stopped hearing "ZASSHUUUUU" and started hearing "IEYASUUUUUU"

Truly will be a shame if Ufotable actually changes this fight to have Gilgamesh put up a fight. Of course, that's what will happen, if only to drag it out for 2 episodes. The best part of this fight is simply how badly he gets his ass beat down.
DreadArkive Well, glad I was wrong for once.
It's decent if you haven't played the VN. This scene is way better in the original, though.
ReroOnyx I just love how they have Shirou rain swords outside UBW, but only use one sword inside. Why even use UBW lol.
"Steel is my body, and fire is my blood." has nothing to do with "My blood is of iron, and my heart of glass."
Same happened with Netflix translation of the UBW anime.
inuzumi You don’t understand how the novel is written.
You Got The Touch!
In the VN, "I can't believe I have to go all out against a fraud", *pulls out Ea before getting his arm chopped off*
Not *open more gates*

Nope, I think the VN chant is better, as its exactly the kind of thing that would unnerve and aggravate Gilgamesh, if Shirou faces him with such calm and absolute confidence in his victory, that he will defeat him here and now, rather than him just screaming it out emotionally, sounds too cliche and has no real impact in comparison to Shirou's groundless confidence in the VN version.

I think the fight from the movie and the original both have their merits.
5:42 I like gilgamesh voice it's pretty good 😯
It's just me or even in novel the fight is better than Deen movie?

Gil is a great swordsman

@@baruzezero4693 and with the Help of GoB putting Saber's Instinct into overdrive as she knows how dangerous the NPs inside it since there are tons of Anti-Dragon NPs inside it.
Change my mind, the VN was better. But I'm not afraid to admit I still like the movie.
I prefer him screaming: HERE I COME KING OF HEROES, DO YOU HAVE ENOUGH WEAPONS AT YOUR DISPOSAL?!
Imagine If There was a Fate Hack and Slash game
I didn't catch Shirou saying he "couldn't match the ultimate one" and that Gilgamesh "must have the ability" on my own playthrough
Shoutout to Archetype Earth
Nisi He was talking about servants in this regard, as his mention of “ultimate one” was not in katakana. Shirou has no knowledge of Arcueid, after all.
Gilgamesh, the only reason you lost is because you are not wearing your armor, thus you lost your arm.
3:44 UBW Shirou gets caliburn?
Archer has caliburn and most of Shirou's sword knowledge comes from Archer
I wonder how it would have ended if the Grail didn't interfere...
pretty obvious Gil was toast
Ufotable ain’t got SHIT on this.
Not many anime got shit close to this
When Ufotable animates this scene, there will be much jizzing and joy among the masses.
EDIT: Having seen the actual Ufo scene, I would like to retract my praise here. Ufo barely followed the VN and did not show Shirou's knowledge on how to fight Gil. It does show how he counters GoB with a rain of swords that shoots faster but for the most part, he Deens the fight with a shounen power-up, rather than a good old clash of swords.
better be, if I have to see poor Illya get her heart ripped out AGAIN.
I await the day they animate swordspam vs swordspam. Holy shit that will be glorious.
protossoverlord09 this is a case of swords crashing. Its a whole other level of swordsplay.

i hope they keep the monologues or else people would think it's an asspull that shirou can beat gilgamesh.
Eh, I still liked it. Even though there were things wrong with the movie version, it was still epic in its own way... Though not as epic as the original.
Gonna clip this video for shirou day if you don't mind
I wonder what the song playing before Emiya's theme kicks in is
Into The Night
@@snakebot4986 Thanks
God it's amazing how much better this was compared to the movie. It's bad enough that DEEN had to take out so many important aspects of the VN but they screwed this up so badly. They screwed up Shirou's epic dialogue, screwed up the reasons behind UBW, it was all messed up.
Instead we got a screaming Shirou, running and wailing on Gilgamesh with what I assume was just Caliburn, and this was apparently too much GAR for Gilgamesh to handle...the entire point of UBW was just...butchered.
this is so better than the movie
BESTEST FIGHT IN THE VN
How I saw this the second time I read it.
Shirou: Call me Faker now! I dare you! I ****ing dare you!
Gilgamesh: You damn Faker!
Shirou: *cuts off Gilgamesh's arm*
Gilgamesh: ARGH!
i think the tone of voices in the movie are better but i like everything else mroe in the novel
The sword on the image of Shirou cornering Gil is Caliburn?
yep
@Santiago Scarpino Only plausible explanation here is that he saw Caliburn in EMIYA's UBW since he comes from an "alternate" Fate route.
If they manage to make a heaven's feel anime, I would go for Ufotable, they have better art. Hope they don't screw it up either.
Your dream came true.
It was good but could have been better

Oof, unfortunate.
Does anyone know the song that plays from 00:00 to 04:06?

What does GAR mean
03:45: Excalibur inside UBW is canon? 😶
Apolo Abel yes, but when he uses it he dies
Apolo Abel He also has Gae Bolg :))
Uh yes? But Shirou cannot use it effectively though, as like Avalon, it can only show its true power with Saber's mana. Without it Caliburn is basically just a Kanshou and Bakuya level NP.
What's the name of the theme in the beginning?
Into the night
UBWShirou has obtained Caliburn, CaladbolgII, K&B, Gae Bolg, and everyting is fine, until min 03:44 - Excalibur in UBW?!!! WTF!!
Could have been a poor fake, who knows.
Even a hyper mega ultra degraded Gae Bolg can be dangerous in a battle betwen Shirou vs another mages...
Angel Cortes we know Shirou has a special place for Gay Bulge though
Gae bolg has a special place in Shirou's heart...
Angel Cortes nah, Gae Bolg would be C+ in UBW, not super degraded, only a rank down.
Looks like ufotable will make UBW. I think I should sell my UBW XD
What is the ost
Found out, its "Into the Night"
I'm worried guys, ufo kind of fucked up ep21.
cotelo How did it fuck up? Or were you expecting 100% canon to vn.
This is Ufotable's rendition and a damn good one.
cotelo It's an adaptation not a transcription.
Besides expecting a 1:1 adaptation from the VN sucks the fun out of watching the anime.
cotelo
It's kinda hard to swing a sword without any technique when you instantly record the blade's entire history and experience just by looking at it once.
What does Gilgamesh in is that Shirou can project a new NP into his hands nearly instantly, even faster than Gilgamesh can bring something out of Gate of Babylon and bring it to bear, and Shirou is sticking right in Gilgamesh's face to prevent him from spamming NP's at range to run Shirou dry of mana in replicating and blocking every barrage.
tbh i think the only merit was for the movie was that it was animated.. :D After reading the novel it made me hate the anime versions ^_^
Can Shirou trace a shit versión of excalibur only to get Saber's skills in hand to hand.
Not this Shirou. Just Tracing it would put him close to death. However, EMIYA (Archer), Kuro with the Archer Card, and Miyuverse Shirou all can.
He can for caliburn however for Excalibur well if he used it, the np I mean. Would kill him after one use
Saber's skills isn't taht special lol, should project Arondight instead if Shirou wants to wield a sword that's used by a Master in Combat.
@@noctislucis7247 probably just the shell but he cannot use the Sword Beam which is the only good thing about Excalibur lol

Nah, I'd Win
Honestly, out of curiosity I just went and watched the movie version of this fight. Terrible by comparison. It doesn't stand out above any other anime fight scene. The buildup is practically nonexistent.
Do you think that UBW Shiro can use Nine Lives Blade Works, or is it specifically only for HF Shirou?
Sebastian Philip Villahermosa Here's a thought why didn't Archer trace Nine Lives Blade Works when he fought Berserker in the Fate route? I sense plotholes :/
TheOnlyBrave you could say he didn't thought about it. berserkers weapon isn't a NP. nine lives is the technic. shirou traced his weapon without thinking about it. you could say archer didn't knew about nine lives
***** who did someonesay he knew about it?
and I agree he didn't plan on escaping.
And according to Type-Moon wiki, NLBW has no known rank, which still kills Berserker regardless of his
No, he lost because of pride.
Pride equals no armor, caught off guard and of course, VERY LATE EA.
Armor or not it can be pierced by a C rank np
Ok I see that the VN was better than the movie, yet I still prefer the movie, only because I understand things better in visual. Sure I miss out on alot of detail, but I still prefer to actually see the fight
Did they really translate the Chanting that badly or what happened
This is the first translation done by Mirror Moon.
Lots of abilities and such stuff in anime, manga, etc. are written in this way, with a kanji + hiragana Japanese name and a “title” in foreign words as the furigana.
As the battle begins, the team of Naruto Uzumaki, Izuku Midoriya, Monkey D Luffy, Ichigo Kurosaki, Tanjiro Kamado, Asta, Akame, Asuna Yuuki, Maka Albarn, Shinoa Hiiragi, Emilia, and Megumin stands united, ready to face Gilgamesh, the King of Heroes from Fate Stay Night. Their combined powers, abilities, weapons, forms, and techniques create a formidable force against their common enemy.
Naruto takes the lead, activating his Full Powers of Six Paths Sage Mode, donning the Truth Seeking Balls, and channeling the immense chakra of all the Tailed Beasts sealed inside him. He forms multiple Shadow Clones and coordinates their attacks, while utilizing his diverse arsenal of jutsu, such as the Rasengan variations, Hiraishin no Jutsu, and the powerful Tailed Beast Bombs. His mastery over the Six Paths Senjutsu and Yin-Yang release allows him to manipulate energy and reality itself.
Izuku Midoriya taps into the full potential of One For All, accessing all eight Quirks within it. His Danger Senses, Blackwhips, Fa Jin, Float, Smokescreen, Gearshifts, and Full Cowls enhance his strength, speed, and agility. With his New Order Quirk, he gains new abilities and strategic advantages in battle. Combined with his tactical thinking and quick reflexes, Izuku becomes a versatile and formidable fighter.
Monkey D Luffy brings forth the power of the Gomu Gomu no Mi Devil Fruit, granting him rubber-like elasticity. His mastery of Haki, including Conqueror's Haki, Observation Haki, and Armament Haki, further enhances his combat skills. Luffy unleashes his Gear Second, Gear Third, and Gear Fourth forms, each granting him unique abilities and increased strength. His Gear Fifth form pushes his limits even further, enabling him to deliver devastating blows.

Tanjiro Kamado showcases his exceptional swordsmanship with the Nichirin Katana Blade and employs all the Breathing Sword forms and techniques he has learned throughout his journey. His enhanced senses and battle instincts make him a formidable opponent. Tanjiro's unwavering determination and indomitable spirit fuel his attacks.
Asta unleashes the power of his Anti Magic Grimoire and wields the Demon Slasher Katana. With his Devil Union form, he harnesses the abilities of Liebe, his devil partner. Asta's Anti Magic nullifies magic-based attacks, making him a vital asset against Gilgamesh's arsenal.
Asuna's healing spells and enhance armaments support her allies during the intense battle. With her Crest of Yggdrasil, she gains additional defensive capabilities.
Maka Albarn wields the Soul Death Scythe, a powerful weapon capable of transforming into a scythe. Her extensive training in combat and soul manipulation makes her a versatile fighter. Maka's weapon resonates with her partner, Soul Eater, allowing them to unleash devastating attacks. Her determination and deep bond with Soul drive her to fight with unwavering resolve.
Shinoa Hiiragi fights with her Cursed Gear, the Shikama Doji Scythe. Her proficiency in using various demon abilities and techniques makes her a formidable opponent. Shinoa's strategic mind and quick thinking allow her to adapt to different situations and exploit her enemy's weaknesses. Her strong leadership skills and tactical insights provide valuable guidance to the team.
Emilia harnesses the power of ice magic, utilizing a wide array of ice spells and techniques. Her Ice Queen form enhances her abilities and grants her control over freezing temperatures. Emilia's Spirit Arts and Puck summoning abilities add a versatile range of offensive and defensive options. Her ice-based weapons, such as swords, scythes, and flowers, further augment her combat capabilities.
Megumin, the Arch-Wizard, brings her explosive and destructive magic to the battle.
Naruto's immense chakra and reality-bending abilities disrupt Gilgamesh's attacks, while Izuku's tactical thinking and versatile Quirks provide support and countermeasures. Luffy's rubber-based elasticity grants him resilience against Gilgamesh's weapons, and Ichigo's speed and Zanpakuto techniques keep the enemy on the defensive. Tanjiro's swordsmanship and heightened senses enable him to evade and counter Gilgamesh's attacks with precision.
Asta's Anti Magic nullifies Gilgamesh's noble phantasms, rendering them ineffective.
