      Great topic. This economy is tough and now more than ever, we need to stand out from the rest. One thing I would add on this list is ability to build strong relationships with your boss and peers.

    Love it! These are the lessons I learned:
    1.An indispensable person is a life learner.
    2. Always go the extra mile
    3. Stop expecting paybacks from people you help.
    4. Your integrity is key, strive to keep it!
    5. Always seek to provide solutions every where you find yourself.
    6. Stop giving excuses and take responsibility!
    7. Upgrade your skills .

    Amy, I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to tell you this in person, but I just want to say thank you soooo much for literally changing my life. The video you made about scheduling with Google Calendars has completely changed how I approach time management...and the results are astounding. It is to this day the single most impactful TH-cam video I have ever watched. Virtual hugs! LOL

    ohh 'don't wait to be asked' hit me the hardest because at work I tend to want to check I'm doing the right thing all the time rather than just take the initiative to do it! but I'm working on it and trying to do more based on what I'm already pretty sure is right and not double checking so much! I really like this kind of video Amy, thank you :) as for the qotd, I am always early for work. At school I was the kid that was always late and I don't want to be the same at work so I make a point of leaving earlier than I need to!

    I really like the pressure reliever versus builder. I've been thinking along the lines of that lately but I really like the way you put it! It's something when I was in my early to mid twenties I could see myself ADDING to the the pressure/being a pressure builder but feeling like "well yeah but I can't change the environment" etc etc insert excuse here to absolve myself of the accountability of being some sort of perpetual underdog that was positive with a negative undertone of excuses.

    Hi Amy, Good advice! I am retired civil service; was a telephone customer service rep for a federal govt agency. About your topic, a couple of notes from a performance review on my use of "positive habits"--"There were instances when the softphones were down - You used your instructions and logged onto your phone to assist callers...This positive shift was not the norm across the office, so your approach stood out...You also defuse contentious situations before they escalate..." I did get the agency's equivalent of a "gold star", something called a Deputy Commissioner's Citation.

    I think you touched on it yourself but my career really skyrocketed when I years ago embraced a principle similar to your #1: I became happy to take on new things. Where most of my colleagues would shun or scoff at a new project. I took it on happily, and learned whatever I needed to learn. Needless to say, years later I have promoted far beyond many of the people who were my original bosses. Purely because I never let myself be complacent with what I know. I'm always broadening my skillset and taking on new challenges. This is so important. Don't merely do "what's in your job description" if you're serious about one day having a more attractive job description. ;)

    I love this type of advice, it really does apply for everything in life. Like, currently I'm at my senior year of high school and I can see how all of those are extremely important in stuff like group projects, teacher-student relationship, and just academic performance in general. • @HereIAm247

    Thank you for this video - it was very needed! I have one question though; I have a tendency to be a pressure builder. I am an apprentice at the moment, so I am still learning, but my colleges (who have done this a long time) often seems a bit disappointed in me, and I am missing opportunities because they don't have confidence in my abilities. This obviously makes me insecure, and shows in behaviour/body language, and actually makes me do worse than otherwise. This is a really negative pattern, and I am working on it!
    My question is: How do you stop being a pressure-builder socially/start to connect with your co-workers? This have always been hard for me, everyone but me seem to do this automatically. Because I believe that both your work skills and your social skills can influence each other, and help build you up. Or doing bad socially, will make people think less of your work skills, if that makes sense.

  • @LexiLuv0914
    @LexiLuv0914 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Making connections by far has been one of the most positive things I have done in both preparing for, and when entering into my career path. Especially nowadays, in the digital world we live in, there are a lot of people with similar qualifications, skills, resumes, etc.. But, by establishing and keeping up with connections, staying in touch with “mentors” or individuals you strive to be like in the workplace is going to set you apart. Not only will they be a fantastic tool to help you learn and grow professionally, but they will likely advocate for you (if you are consistently demonstrating the positive skills like the ones discussed in this video) wether it be for hiring, keeping a job, or in different workplace situations in general :)

    Hey, Amy, it is not always only my fault when I am late for example. And the attitude that I am less important to someone when he can´t be on time for an appointment brought me into deep trouble. I were angry, sad and so one. ..It isn´t always the person´s fault, there can be so many reasons...To not apologize is very unkind in my opinion, I would never do so

    I think there should be an asterisk next to the first one. For example, I'm in childcare and there are certain things that I'm not allowed to do because of the level of certificate/education i am at. Always be aware of when you are stepping into an area that could put you into liability and your professional peers around you that could manipulate you.

    I mean yeah but what if your boss decides to delegate you more and more responsibilities than you can or want to handle? Some people will guilt you into taking on more work than you can. Bosses and businesses should have respect for workers' personal lives and health, and not exploit them whenever they can, and I think that even as we work to become indispensable, we should also be able to enforce some human boundaries with our bosses and managers.

    • @AmyTV
      @AmyTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. But they will never know your boundaries if you do not communicate them. You are never stuck.

    Unless you have an incompetent boss...then your competence makes you a threat.

    • @HereIAm247
      @HereIAm247 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Always be as competent as possible, just learn when and how to show it. You can show it in a way that belittles/threathens your boss, or you can use it in a way that makes yourself and your boss look better. In the second scenario, you are valuable. :)
