It feels a bit odd to comment on an older video, but I just watched, so it's new to me. One of the reasons I willingly watch your well-disclosed AD videos is because you are a credible influencer. I know you wouldn't do an ad, if you thought the product was bad. I know you wouldn't risk your professional reputation like that. One of the ways I know that, is because you are very forthcoming about ads, other partnerships/sponsorships, PR gifts, past relationships with companies, etc. That you're clear when you're making an ad is good for the brand you're advertising, too. It makes the whole exchange seem more above board.

I actually wrote a paper (for law school) that heavily discussed the issue with TikTok‘s undisclosed ads. I even mentioned the way that the companies formulate their briefs lends into this misdirection. Undisclosed ads have been an issue for years, but due to the way TikTok‘s platform operates, ads are being undisclosed at what seems to be greater rates than ever before. I’m so glad that you decided to talk about this because studies even show that younger audiences are not able to understand when someone they follow is selling a product versus when they are actually recommending a product when ads are not disclosed.

Agreed. The basic formula of 10:20 Tik Toks is this: 1. Ad/partner disclosure hidden in an area not immediately obvious and no verbal confirmation of ad/partner. 2. No wear test clip later in the ad for potential long term results.’3. Later shade said brand and/or product the ad was for stating they didn’t really care for it.
      So tired of it!

A pet peeve of mine is seeing the hashtags #ad or #affiliatelink in a very tiny font that you can barely see. It's like are you ashamed of working with the company, or ashamed of getting paid for promoting a product? People who do that might actually not like the product.

Exactly! Thankfully, I only had to unfollow someone once (Isimeme Edeko) after she slightly tried to hide that she had an affiliated link. She went out of her way to say the video wasn't an ad, but no where did sis say anything about the afflicted link. I checked her description, the link was right at the top, but at the VERY bottom is where she put "there [MAY] be afflicted links associated". Like girl. I commented about it and I was as nice as possible so she wouldn't think I was coming for her something like, "hey girl, you said it wasn't an ad, but can you be more open about the fact that you still get money if someone clicks on your link. Get your coin sis, I just want honesty as you never mentioned it in your video. I came back like a day later after no one replied, thinking no one saw my comment or it was deleted. I looked and found my comment, but had the idea to switch to my other account and look, setting the comment to recent. And what do you know? My comment was nowhere to be found 😒😒. Unsubscribed immediately and I had been following miss ma'am for a while too, watched her get engaged then married and everything. I don't know why it's so hard for influencers to be honest.

Her excitement when she reviewed Colourpop's 2022 Valentines Day collection and her 2021 Colourpop ranking when they were either sponsored by Colourpop or was showcased on their TH-cam channel, was palpable. Wether that recommendation comes via a sponsored segment or an unsponsored segment. The other result is that I am genuinely pleased for you that you HAVE brands that want you to provide an ad for their products. I WANT you to do well. It benefits me, obviously 😉. But also, I’m not a monster, so of course I want people to be rewarded for their hard work. I’m not ignorant of just how much work it is for you to provide me with this level of quality content. I hope up and coming content creators hear this message. It can only make the community stronger if they likewise adopt this ethical approach. It sets the audience at ease when we KNOW what’s coming at us. I quickly avoid channels that make me doubt the transparency. Congratulations on 1M !! This is super helpful! I get anxiety now when i get excited about a new product being shown, i just dont feel like i can trust any form of "hype". It's sad that it has got to this BUT it's great to see that people like yourself will always be around to help and restore faith. Also about the planes flying low, YES im in the UK too and i always duck a tiny bit and assume for a second its going to land right on my bed hahaha. Thank you!

It's important that people don't punish content creators that are honest with sponsorships. I have seen creators that loose s lot of views with videos with sponsorship even if the content is good. That kind of behavior only help dishonest influencers.

I'm always intrigued when TH-camrs say "This was sent to me free for review" some will specify that their opinions are their own but sometimes they seem suspiciously positive and I wonder... I always appreciate those people who are very clear about what is an ad/sponsorship and when the link is an affiliate link etc.

Thank you for making this. It is rather surprising how many people are fooled, younger people as well. It is really sad that a person is happy to exploit the trust from their followers who do look to them, trust them. We often discuss parasocial relationships in a victim blaming way, implying that the follower is at fault. They may not be aware or may rely on parasocial because they do not have healthy or strong relationships irl. It is not healthy but it is occuring. We cannot discuss it without addressing why parasocial relationships are happening. And noting creators benefit from parasocial relationships particular with more impressionable people.

Thank you for being so transparent and "pulling back the curtain" on ads. Viewers should understand that content producers are a business and doing ads or being a brand partner is a way to make a living. Networks make their money from ads, why wouldn't an influencer - basically a tiny network? Making an honest living openly selling products isn't shameful.

I love, love LOVE how honest, straight forward, easy to understand and informational this video was.
Like you said, I don`t mind when people/"influencers" or whatever gets sponsorships and does an ad, AS LONG AS they disclose it properly.
However, people pushing products in your face that`s CLEARLY an undisclosed ad, I hate it, and it makes me feel like I can`t trust that person any longer.
I know saying honesty is the best policy, but hey.. it`s true. jLike seriously, just be honest about it, and it`s FINE. It`s really not hard at all.. some people are just so annoyingly shady. It feels both scammy and scummy when people hide their sponsorships in plain sight. It`s honestly insulting to both the viewer`s and the influencers` integrity. It makes me think that you just agreed to a sponsorship for the money, without at all caring about your viewers (who even makes it possible for you to get that bag in the first place..).. like you only cared about getting money from that sponsorship, without caring in any way about whether you actually like the product or not. If it`s good enough for you to get monetary gains from, but not good enough for you yourself to use, well then it`s not good enough to try to sell to your viewers either. It`s literally that simple. Otherwise, it just becomes scammy and scummy.

If I follow and like a creator, I’m usually happy they’re getting sponsorships, that’s how a lot of creators support themselves and are able to continue making content. If content creation is your full time job, you probably make a lot of your income through sponsorships, and I’m not upset about that. Just let me know when it’s an ad.

I like this kind of straight forward videos. You explain how something works truthfully and in details. It's amazing how some of these known influencers are so dishonest! When you think about it, it's stealing. They help brands take our money based on fake reviews and/or hidden advertisements.
