Watching this video 3 years later! Not only do I still love his opinions but I’m so glad all the nasty ppl who used to comment on his videos have disappeared. Robert is one of the only honest beauty gurus on TH-cam to this day! And he finally get the support and respect he deserves.

As someone that grew watching beauty influencers, it has taken me years to realize that I don’t have to use 1/2 of the amount of foundation/concealer they use, but to use 1/10 of the product they use!! I don’t know how they use so much!!
Totally agree! When I watch someone pile on half a tube of concealer under their eyes it makes me shiver.
And also too much powder but I haven’t seen too much baking anymore I think it’s starting to fade 😊

We all need to embrace the things that make us unique
The problem with beauty gurus is that they're, for the most part self taught. Nothing wrong with that, but you can tell the difference between someone who's a professional and has been properly taught and the beauty gurus.
You can also really tell that beauty gurus often do makeup for the same situation. From what I've seen they do a lot of full glam that looks good on camera, so there's a lot of stuff that just doesn't translate to anything else. They're no doubt often creative and have a good grasp on things like colour but it just never feels like something I could or would apply to myself without looking like an absolute clown

I believe throughout the artists in the video, Pony would probably be the only one who went to school to be an actual professional makeup artist. She's a well known makeup artist for famous celebrities and singers in South Korea like Jung Saem Mool and she does have a large following of famous celebrity makeup artists from the US, UK, Japan, SK, and Thailand. I even came across Kim K's makeup artist, Mario, praising her work in real life.

i love the way that robert points out stuff. like he’s not attacking the person or saying that what their doing is completely wrong, he’s just giving ACTUAL constructive criticism and understanding that some things might just look weird bc of things that are out of control of the beauty guru like lighting, etc.

As a japanese person, i love korean cosmetics and makeup. I think their beauty knowledge and techniques are probably the best in Asia and Maybe even in the world. Their makeup products and methods are always new and inspiring.

Pony is a delight to watch, I absolutely love her, and I wish more beauty "guru's" were like her. What makes Pony a cut above the rest is that she's a trained makeup artist, and you see this with Lisa Eldridge, Wayne Goss and Charlotte Tilbury, where they are so precise and deliberate; they know what they're doing while beauty guru's don't which is why they're always trying to "reinvent the wheel" so to speak.
100% agreed.
These gurus are also the ones who claim there are "no rules" to make-up.... to compensate for the fact they don't know the rules.
@@eva_pe You're absolutely right and I commented on one of Robert's past videos saying that he shouldn't be apologising for saying there are rules to make up because he is the professional, while the people making the claims are not, and there is a science to beauty.

I think the "one shade lighter" came from the fact that makeup oxidizes and brcomes slightly darker after sometime..? So if you want to have something in your tone, find something a bit lighter.. at least that's what the sales person told me.😅
I think it also came from the 80s 😂 I recently watched a few makeup videos from the 80s and the makeup artists always uses “a shade lighter to brighten”

I absolutely adore the Welsh twins. Not only have they helped me.... An older lady, understand the complicate dworls of modern beauty and skincare but they have helped me teach my three spritelings and I am so grateful. Their, and Marcus's amazing voices completely boost my mood after a long day at work. Like vibing with fabulous friends.
I used to watch a lot of beauty gurus and makeup from 2014-2020 and I kinda just got bored after awhile. But I recently found your channel and you've really re-inspired me to get back into makeup. I'm done with beauty gurus lol (unless it's my auntie Jackie Aina) but I love your channel! New sub here.
Back before TH-cam, in the 80s, we learned how to put on makeup by looking at magazines, and models who were photographed. I binged watched many videos when TH-cam came on the scene.

You're so pretty Robert, I don't think you get told that enough. You have such lovely features and gorgeous teeth. You bring the common sense back into makeup, I am ancient and learned in the late 60s early 70s and what you say about, well, just about everything, is true and the theory was there back then and it still is. You and Wayne Goss are the only people I always come back to (your brother too). You are up to the minute but also very wise and don't get into trends. Great video as ever.

The judging and elimination system on the show is hot garbage, if Robert were a judge he'd make it sooo much better. The current judges seem to make random decisions and never give tangible reasons for liking or disliking something, or say how the MUA could improve for next time.

@@popflorals well maybelline in general is cool, kinda beginner friendly but there are good and bad products. Tbh, i think it's all about us understanding ourself and find the product that suits us the most. What may appeal to me might not be so to you. Other than that, we do need to practice if we wish to make the best of our products.

About her nose: Tati has expressed that she is self conscious about the length of her nose. She thinks it’s too short and tries to lengthen it and shorten the space between it and her top lip.

Yes we were allowed to wear make up at secondary school, started with just mascara and then just added more over time, remember some girls being surprised that I wore make up because I used to wear the right colour foundation. Unlike them who looked orange and had a line between their neck and face 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

we were not allowed to wear a lot of makeup in school either( Canada). I always use Bobbi Brown under-eye primer and her face base moisturizing primer which moisturizes and it eliminates creases or streaky looking concealer, as well as a beautifully hydrated, even foundation application on my mature skin (55 yr female). I recently started watching your channel and now find myself looking at your older videos, such as this....I think you are so lovely, honest and encouraging, thank you for this great content, you CAN teach an old dog new tricks! :)
Ditto on the Bobbi Brown products! The face base especially is soooo kind to this 50+ yr old woman's skin too, so much so in fact that I can often get away with just face base and mascara!
We could wear whatever we wanted. In fact, in gr 6 I knew a girl who wore about the same amount that most beauty TH-camrs wear now lol. That was 1983, in GTA Ontario, at a public school.
