    thank you so much for this! I bought a R5C but didn't have the time to buy the cage and stuff yet. Now I got an upcoming job and delivery dates for cages are 3-4 weeks... it's just a small job but I didn't even think to use the battery grip, which I own for the R5 cause I didn't think it would fit. Will do the job until the rest arrives. Had a production in July with the R5C and had to switch the normal batteries every 15min which was getting really tricky in the end of the day because the charging didn't keep up with the camera running out of battery.

I chose to buy canon rc5. I watched your videos as well. If you prepare a video about the video shooting modes of canon cr5, people can benefit. Like what values are the fullframe equivalent of 4k. This is a very nice video showing compact options with the R5C. This convinced me more about getting this camera, especially for having the ability to shoot great pictures. It is a very good option for documentary and even for making short films with this setup you just shown. You just add a wireless go and a separate sound system, like a Zoom H5/H6 with a boom and a decent shotgun microphone with a timecode generator and you are good to go! Thanks for the follow up!

    Almost the same setup I am looking to do. I got a v-mount that has the USB C power in itself so you can use any battery, but likely to use a USB Power Bank as my main power source since you get more capacity for cheaper vs the v-mount batteries. Just need to figure out the best plate to attach the cage to my tripod quick and easy.

    Great video Josh. How would you approach using the battery grip and a top handle? As the battery grip would restrict you from using a cage?
    Also, how is the battery life if only in photo mode (with a single battery)?

    Josh, I'm testing the new Smallrig 99 V-Mount battery and I'm having some issues. The battery has basiclly the same specs as the FxLion in your video and was wondering if the FxLion has the same issues. Using the USB-C the camera will not recognise the Smallrig battery when it's powered on. If the camera is turned on, the only way it will recognize the external battery is to unplug and then plug it back in. At that time the camera battery icon on the lcd screen turns gray and I know it' running on the Smallrig. Just realized today that if the camera's internal battery is less that 100% the camera will detect the Smallrig when it's turned on and off, basically it works as you would expect. I have tried 3 different PD rated cables including the one that came with the camera. Also, I have the cable you use in your video. I have another cable coming in a few days but I'm thinking it might be a firmware issue. BTW it will charge the battery via USB-C when the camera is off. I have a long email sent to Smallrig trying to get answers but nothing yet. This battery is so new that there's hardly anyone talking about it. I was wondering if you are having any issues like this using the Fxlion battery. Thanks

    • @Josh_Sattin
      @Josh_Sattin  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry to hear you are having issues. I didn't have any of those issues, but I also don't have a R5C anymore. The only weird thing that I encountered was that you need to have a battery in the camera for USB C PD to work. Hopefully Smallrig gets back to you about it.

    i currently have had a Canon 80D for a long time and have been depsertley researching for months on different full frame cameras for both high quality photography along with stunningly crisp Video for a number of scenarios. I have been buying alot of Sigma Lenses that are EF mount which sucks because the cameras that are obviously better are ones like the Sony A7siii, Sony A7R V, Canon R5 (What I am most leaning towards) which all have different mounts that I would buy adapters to fit my current lenses. I have been debating for so long but deserve an upgrade in quality from what I currently use. Any recomendations on any cameras I did not mention or any I did mention! Do you think the R5 would be perfect for me? I would really appreciate any suggestions from people who have used many different cameras and would like to help me buy the perfect one!

      i‘ve owned the canon 70D for six years and did everything you could possibly do with it. May 2022 i replaced it with the R5. It took some getting used to because the files are huge compared to the 70D and i had to start using Proxies in my workflow. In general i‘m happy with the upgrade. It still blows my mind that i now can achieve a more stylized look with videos, similar to photos which wasn’t possible with the 70D.
      Btw. i‘m still using EF Lenses adapted with the Mount Adapter EF-EOS R by Canon

      I really like your assembly. The idea of the compact battery installed behind the R5C is great and is much better than the power-bank attached with adhesive under the gimbal mount. With no monitor and no microphone (or maybe even a microphone) I hope your system is well digested by the DJI RS3 Pro! Thanks again from Italy!
