I agree, the R5 for me was also great at quickly recording a video clip of a bird when in photo mode. However, the R5C can shoot 120fps in RAW s16 crop which is a 3k wide image and great for wildlife videography. Not sure if the R5MK2 can do this.
@HuFilms the R5MKII can't do that. This is a good point. But it is just almost 3k when we shoot in 16mm RAW 120fps with the R5C. I'm keeping my R5C, no interest in the R5II unless the hands on reviews show a massive difference between the cameras but I doubt this will happen. And i'm just so used the cinema operating system now I don't think I can go back to the photo style video menu. I'm either going to wait for an R5CII or more likely jump up to the big boy C400. I've invested a lot in RF glass and that's the main reason I'll be staying with Canon for the foreseeable future. ps i don't know why Canon chose to bring out the cripple hammer of line skipped 4k60 on the R5II it doesn't make any sense to me. They could have at least given the option even with the risk of it overheating quickly...
I actually forgot to mention the line skipped thing in the video. This is a biggie for me too. The crane rate options and quick accessibility to such in the r5c are still above the R5MK2.
@@HuFilms I think line skipping has been debunked. You seem to be dogging the R5II a lot. Is this payback for people dogging the R5C so much? 2 years ago if we got the specs in the R5II people would have gone nuts. Better dynamic range, clog2 and better AF make the R5II a great upgrade. Not including the upgrades on the photo side.
Been filming with the R5C since January this year and it is amazing! I'm looking at possibly getting a C400 next year since I am still using the R as my B cam for client work. I'm excited to pair it with the R5 C
At 6:17 the ivy vine is cut to save the tree (you cut them in two places, to create a gap like you pointed out.) We did this on our filming course when we first bought it since the ivy was untended for several years. Now we try to clear it when it shoots up. Some of the ivy trunks can get massive if left untended. Here, in the USA, it's an invasive species and will destroy forests. Not sure about Ireland. But it looks like someone went through a year or two ago and killed the larger vines based on the new ivy growth on the side of the tree.
My dream Canon camera would be the C80 with NDs and photo functions from my R5C carried over. One could also think of it as the R5C in a C80-ish body with the larger format of the C80 body with a stronger battery. Plus internal NDs. I'd be fine with both 6K and 8K resolution. 6K might actually be usable if the larger pixels net better noise performance and faster readouts. But it's clear to me that the R5C does not belong in the small body format (I'm coming from 1Dc and 1Dx mkII, which is a much-preferred body size).
The R5ii unfortunately does not let you record 4k oversampled video above 30fps, and so any video format like 4k60,120 will look mushy and slightly hazy which is unusable for commercial work if your goal is to record in high frame rate or slow motion and maintain a clear image. Even with power delivery or an external battery will not allow you to film overersampled 60,120 and at that point you are better off recording on a canon R6mkii or R8. The R5C does allow you to record overampled 60,120
It's worth noting that the AF on the R5C is MUCH worse than on the R5. It failed even in simple interview situations, where the R5 managed well. It was the reason I kept my 2 R5 and not the R5C. I will certainly go for the R5 II, since it offers even better AF and general video tools. Also I expect it to have good battery runtime, like the R5 I. The Battery runtime on the R5C is INCREDIBLE bad. Another dealbreaker for me.
Remember, that the top end cinema cameras don't autofocus at all. Even RED's can't autofocus reliably with native RF lenses. The R5C is a full on cinema camera and does relatively good AF considering, if you ask me. The new R5MK2 is gonna use a lot of battery as well when you add the fan grip.
your footage is so clean and good. Would love to know how you edit and film with the R5c. Now that I can get a good priced on a used one, I will be on the hunt for one.
Very nice colours, very nice content, a rely sincere thank you for what you do. In a clips from music video it can be seen it was no time, but sometimes is just what it is.
😎 Looking forward to hear real life/world comments about the R5ii. At the moment it's just selective reviews 😅 of people connected to Canon. Still looking forward to purchasing the R5C.
Doesn’t the r5 mark ii have clog 2 and isn’t that better then clog 3 ? The canon r5c only has clog 3? Please correct me if I’m wrong! Sony fx3 user here , but I’ve always wanted to use the r5c
When it says "4K Raw LT 50FPS" Where is that setting? I've checked all of my 4K settings and 50 fps isn't a frame rate. If I go to RAW, I can only do 60fps.
Canon will probably add some cool things in firmware over the next 2-3 years as well. I prefer 4K RAW or the 8K RAW like you said for file sizes. I just wish they had the balls to put 2 CFE card slots into the R52 and get a new tilt/ flip screen.
Hello Fellow R5c Owner... I truly enjoy your videos. I own a R5c and I totally love it.. I wanted to ask.. you featured briefly in one of your "Sample Work Videos" a Slider... I am looking into buying a slider... what slider are you using?
I actually don't really have a working slider now at the moment as I sold off some gear. I think Edelkrone make great ones but they're pricey. SlyPod pro's can be very cool too.
No question we need a R5C mkii with the new features of the R5 mkii but with the same cooling system as on the R5C that we have zero overheating. Battery draw should be improved. And they should implement 4K 60p oversampling and a 6K raw S35 option like on the R5C. Would be the perfect hybrid.
I bought my r5c after seeing that r52 needs a cooling grip. Cooling grip is not at all a solution for people who shoot serious videos. Regarding AF yes r5c AF isn't the best but it's adequate for 90% jobs especially for stills. I could track birds with my 10 year old 1dx and have 90% success rate. Battery issues solved by having a v-mount battery. So IMO r5c is still the best hybrid camera in existence.
Thanks, yeah, I think it's nice for vids as I can change up the scene. The entire Island of Ireland was once a temperate oceanic rainforest. We've 1% of that left 😭
Clearly the R3 beats the R5C with dynamic range. I love the R5C but the image quality dynamic range is a step up from the R5. That's a good thing but the R5C does not come close to the C70 which is a bench mark in the Canon Cine line up. So, going from what I know about the R5C and R3, I suspect that the R5II will have better dynamic range and AF compared to the R5C. I can work around using an external battery bank with the R5C and have no other issues with the R5C. But I prefer the image quality that the R3 give you over the R5C. I also think the R5II will hit way above the R5C because of the updated sensor and like I said better AF. Now, the R5C has that cine menu and internal has better options over the R3 or R5II. So I totally agree with a lot of the positive points that you made in this video.
Great video. I was shooting with the Canon R5 Mark II while doing photography. I do have the cooling grip but found the camera begins to overheat if on in 85-degree weather for a prolonged time.
It seems that there hasn't really been a sensor review for the r5ii, but from what I can see the sensor is rated at 16stops of DR @ 800 ISO CLOG2 and slightly reduced DR at 4000. Unsure what the useable DR will be. Footage seemed noisy at 10000 ISO which means my zv-e1 can shoot at native 12800 but canon would be noisy in dark situations. I still think and FX3 is the best choice for the money. But Yes the R5C for the price still seems like a decent purchase for video users. Honestly I've never wanted and R5C more since the release of the r5ii. Will have to wait until CineD or Gerald does a sensor review. That being said, the talk of the R6iii has me interested, the R6 has always been the sweet spot for me. Who needs 8k raw, knowImSayin
No camera on the market is noisy in low light. Any camera that claims to be good in low light is adding in body noise reduction. The R5C is noisy in low light because it does not add noise reduction in camera which is what you want.
See, I thought I was going bonkers thinking about the R5C vs the R5 II as it pertains to video. So I’m glad you did this video. Of course we could both be bonkers. For my purposes (video), I won’t be adding the R5II to inventory. While I certainly have a wish list for the R5C, it it's a very capable workhorse.
I hear ya, I kinda need 2 hybrid bodies as about a quarter of my work is photography and often I'll be doing work than needs quick photos taken from wide and tele angles so selling the R5 and getting te R52 makes sense. A lot of the time, I wish I sold the R5 to get another R5C as the video files are much nicer imo.
@@contentm3893 I know how to read video specs. For photography, I'd upgrade my R5 to the R5II, yes. For video, nope. BUT, I am open to being wrong should new information come along or if I missed something reading over the specs. For me, it's not worth the $$ to upgrade FOR VIDEO. Of course YMMV.
@@contentm3893 Both of those are not worth the upgrade for me. Buddy, it is totally ok if you disagree. My needs are different than yours. No doubt the R5II will be amazing for those who need what it offers. And if Clog 2 and better AF will help you with better output, then hey, the more power to you.
The autofocus isn’t great and my R5C just eats batteries even on standby. But you’re right in terms of video record time. But I also don’t shoot video for my That 5-10 minutes at a time so either camera will work great for that.
If you test the LP-E6P in the R5C to see if lens control works in 8k I am sure a lot of people would like to know about that and if there are any limitations etc.

Canon seems to have swung that cripple hammer JUST hard enough to still give the R5C relevance and to leave room for an R5C mkii. Gotta admit, it was a pretty masterful swing. Having said that, I agree with everything you said and have been on the same mental rollercoaster as have we all regarding the R5ii. I currently have a pair of R5Cs, and the more I dive into the idea of replacing them, the more impressed I become with the R5C in it's current form. One thing not touched on in your video is that the R5ii will allegedly have more dynamic range than R5C... hardly a feat because the R5C isn't known to have very strong dynamic range. But, Canon giveth, and Canon taketh away oversampled 4K60. WTF. That's the cripplyest cripple hammer move I can identify with the new camera. It's got a stacked sensor, additional processor just for focus etc... there's zero reason it shouldn't be oversampling the same modes. Canon must be REALLY worried about that heat. Should've just put a fan in the da** thing. 😄
I did mention that the R5C can do C-log 2 when in RAW mode, which is great. But yeah, c-log 2 in a compressed codec is better. Line skipped higher fps is a pain and this for me is why I barely pick up to do video with the R5 anymore. The R5C's 60fps is much nicer.
The R5C is limited in dynamic range. If it wasn't it would have clog2. So it's an old sensor that the R5II basically destroy. So hold onto old tech or join your competition that's giving clients a great image. You should also be able to work around a camera short comings. The Komodo sucks to work with compared to the R5C but at the end of the day the image is the most important thing. And you don't become a great storyteller because you have the R5C. You are just justifying your purchase of two R5C's which was dumb.
@@contentm3893 why is it dumb for us to point out the R5C oversamples 4K60 and the R52 does not? There's no "justification" going on here. Facts is facts, and to a user like me (shooting primarily real estate), 4K60 is where I live, for several reasons. So, if my "competition" is now going to give their clients softer images, no thanks, I'll pass.
@@contentm3893 ...and it overheats in about 37 seconds like that, yeah. Any way you cut it, the R52 just isnt for professional video like R5C is. It overheats, doesn't oversample as many modes, doesn't monitor as many tools, doesn't have face-only AF, fan, time code....I mean come on, it's a stills camera, and thats cool, but better than R5C at video is an enormous stretch just because it can shoot a flatter log curve natively.

@@HuFilms I do photos mostly but I do have my R6 rigged out for video. I personally think the R6 is good enough for my video needs. The only reason I bought an R5 now that the R5 MK II is out is because the faster photo writing speed to the faster CFExpress B card.
When shooting raw, it will be the same…the advantage of the r5mkii is that you have clog2 in mp4 (r5c is limited to clog3), you will have better AF (way better), stabilisation (if you need it), 4k raw without crop, no need to v-mount batteries (batteriy grip with fan is better because it’s weather sealed etc)
The R5C was an upgrade for the R5 so Canon has no reason to produce a R5CII. If sales of the R5C were strong they Canon would certainly produce a R5C. The big question is does Canon release a C70II? Based on C70 sales they should but it would have to be a full frame sensor.
No you don't have clog2 in raw w/ the r5c, Gerald Undone makes this clear in one of his video that when you choose clog2 in your editing software that is actually clog (1). you can try to switch betwen clog and clog2 and you can see there is no difference. clog2 is just a dummy/placeholder option.
So many people get this wrong, CLOG2 is tied to the DR of the sensor. The R5C's sensor is only about 11 usable stops of DR, CLOG2 needs at least 13 stops to be usable so there was no point in including CLOG2 in cameras like the R5, R6, or R7; the fact they included CLOG2 for the R5II is actually a great sign; it's our best indication yet that the R5II really does have a lot more usable DR than the R5, probably not the claimed 16+ stops, but definitely more than the R5 and R5C.
@@VUMEDIAGroup Exactly. The R3 has at least 2 more stops of dynamic range over the R5 and R5C. I also think that the R5II having clog2 is a good sign because it means it's going be incredible on the video side. It does sound like it will have work around with over heating but so does the Z8 and other cameras at this price point.
None of these type of videos this vs that is helping me. Soooo many videos now comparing R5 vs Mk2 vs R5c and most conflict the other videos. Honestly Im hesitant to watch another. Just too confusing now. I will just rent and compare it myself to fulfill my expectation and needs.

Certain things hold good on paper. But you have a point. The R5C has more in-dept control on settings. I don't need to have to R52 in my hand to know that.
The R5CmkII should just use the C400 sensor with its 3 base ISOs in the smallest form factor possible. Pair the FX6 killer with a FX3 killer. Would kinda leave the C70 in a weird spot but it's what the people want.
Never going to happen, the R5CII if it is released will use the R5II's sensor and if a C90 is released it would use the C400's sensor in a smaller form factor just like the R5C used the R5's sensor and the C70 used the C300's sensor.

@@contentm3893I ordered an R52 so I obviously don’t hate it that much. I just really love the R5C.
Thanks, that was my guess after a moment of looking at it.
That marketing video from Canon showcasing the R5 II is really beautiful. But I can skip watching your video to work that one out!!
R5c is better in video quality and texture and r5 mk ii has that mirroless look that i dislike
This is not my experiance.
It would be Great to get a R5C II clog2 and full HDMI
@@pablomarin1746 such a simple thing for them to do.
Very nice colours, very nice content, a rely sincere thank you for what you do. In a clips from music video it can be seen it was no time, but sometimes is just what it is.
Thanks! I think the music videos will look nice when they’re fully done.
great vid question at 1.33 your r5c is on a slider which one do you use ?
I keep wondering if there will be an R5cii with that BSI sensor from the mark ii?
Canon will probably add some cool things in firmware over the next 2-3 years as well. I prefer 4K RAW or the 8K RAW like you said for file sizes. I just wish they had the balls to put 2 CFE card slots into the R52 and get a new tilt/ flip screen.
I wish they upped that 4k raw to 120fps. That would have been nice!
Without doubt, the R5C has many, many more options. The R5 MII though has one annoying trump-card and that's CLOG2 =(
Hello Fellow R5c Owner...
SlyPod pro's can be very cool too.
please give us a tutorial of how you go about manual focus using r5c. getting into video now. always been a stills shooter.
Woods are great, especially that emerald Irish green.
Thanks, yeah, I think it's nice for vids as I can change up the scene. The entire Island of Ireland was once a temperate oceanic rainforest. We've 1% of that left 😭
Ireland is so pretty. I love the woods!
Thanks, you say some good stuff here. The R3 deserves more credit for sure.
But dude. He hasn't even used the R5II and you are basing your decision on this video? That's nuts and sheepy.
@@love4wildlife It is when you get clog2 and better AF for video. The R3 blows away the R5 in video. So you don't know how to understand specs at all.
The autofocus isn’t great and my
R5C just eats batteries even on standby. But you’re right in terms of video record time. But I also don’t shoot video for my
That 5-10 minutes at a time so either camera will work great for that.
Good points!
If you test the LP-E6P in the R5C to see if lens control works in 8k I am sure a lot of people would like to know about that and if there are any limitations etc.
I think it should. It's kinda doing the same processing in the R5MK2.

@@loudandclearmedia RAW 60p is oversampled.
Hey Hugh, can you do a video about the R5 able to shoot 120fps face track, but the R5c only can do 60 with face/eye tracking
That's a bit specific but let me see.
@@HuFilms 👍 Literally if you look on TH-cam there are no videos about it only 1 video with the work around.

Canon stated that our 5C brand is not going away. There will be a follow up Cameron in 2025. They’re not going to cut something that makes the money. There will also be a follow up to the R3 as well as R6 line of cameras
Yes, I think so too but a lot of voices are saying it's dead in the water. It would be very easy for them to upgrade this camera.
@@HuFilms the canon reps said those brands are not going anywhere
Do you mean R5MkII in the title?
Yes! silly typo, thanks.
I thought the R52 has the cinema menu when you flip it to video mode.
Nope! It'll just have the similar photo style menu. You're gonna need an R5C for that.

The R5C is still a winner when it comes to video if you ask me. What do you think?
I can't tell the difference. Maybe because of TH-cam Compression??
@@StarLightDotPhotosthe RAW is identical if you ask me. But it’s not all about pixels.
@@HuFilms I do photos mostly but I do have my R6 rigged out for video. I personally think the R6 is good enough for my video needs. The only reason I bought an R5 now that the R5 MK II is out is because the faster photo writing speed to the faster CFExpress B card.
@@StarLightDotPhotosyou’d love an r5c for video coming from an r5. They all do the job though!
After viewing this I came to the conclusion: We need more Irish ☘️ on youtube 🙌
This is the review we've been waiting for thank you!
No problem!
The R5C was an upgrade for the R5 so Canon has no reason to produce a R5CII. If sales of the R5C were strong they Canon would certainly produce a R5C. The big question is does Canon release a C70II? Based on C70 sales they should but it would have to be a full frame sensor.
FF c70 is coming
Probably because the r5 and r5mkii are hybrid cameras with an emphasis in stills, and the R5c is a hybrid camera with a emphasis in video?
👏
I have R5 mk ii and r5c and 8k 60p dynamic range on r5 mk ii outperforms r5c by 1,5ev, af is so much better, will twojej r5c with second r5 mk ii
None of these type of videos this vs that is helping me. Soooo many videos now comparing R5 vs Mk2 vs R5c and most conflict the other videos. Honestly Im hesitant to watch another. Just too confusing now. I will just rent and compare it myself to fulfill my expectation and needs.

But to be serious, I wasn't talking about specific styles. I was talking about photography as a whole.
Learn how to focus.
Don't get bitter. Get better.
How can you say one camera is better than another without actually using it….😒
Certain things hold good on paper. But you have a point. The R5C has more in-dept control on settings. I don't need to have to R52 in my hand to know that.
Reading speed
The R5CmkII should just use the C400 sensor with its 3 base ISOs in the smallest form factor possible. Pair the FX6 killer with a FX3 killer. Would kinda leave the C70 in a weird spot but it's what the people want.
Never going to happen, the R5CII if it is released will use the R5II's sensor and if a C90 is released it would use the C400's sensor in a smaller form factor just like the R5C used the R5's sensor and the C70 used the C300's sensor.
