    I would have to say the PTO and the home time or schedules in this case might be my favorite. Definitely one of the major things I like about being at Wal-Mart. Running A 5-2 5-3, when I get that 3 day home time it's unlike anything I've ever had since I've been trucking in over 10 years. great video!

      For years I loved my 6-3. Secret to that schedule is having great partners you share the truck with that you get along with. It's really like having three and a half days off because you can't work that full six day usually.

      @@MrFriday83 the 6 3 is a pretty popular schedule so being a new driver you may not get it but you never know you might. I know this sounds crazy but working a five on five off isn't a bad deal because they're always desperate for people to work so you can work all your days off as long as you can put a 34 hour reset in between each week. The only downside is you'll be sharing a truck with someone so you'll have to get into a different truck on your days off. I've been working most of my days off throughout the summer because I plan on just working five on five off this winter when the weather gets bad plus take time off in addition to that.

    I feel as if your spot on with your 5 reasons & I haven't applied yet. Super excited to though, but my local DC said it'll be about another month before they are hiring again. Just as nervous about the on boarding process & passing as I'm excited though. Lol. I've only worked with 3 companies in my almost 5 years of driving & thus far Prime Inc. has been the best. The equipment, pay as a lease operator and people/work culture was phenomenal. But, it was really designed to run for weeks at a time and no pto as a lease op. Second best has great equipment, gets me home more often, has free health, dental & vision. But, being spot market driven hasnt been the best of experiences & still out a couple/few weeks at a time. One week of vacation time & you have to take it all at once also. Last job had top pay, home weekly. But the equipment was poor, and though the local terminal employees were good. The companies overall at the other terminals were extremely poor.
    I hope someday soon to be able to work for Walmart & check all 5 boxes.

      No doubt it will happen. Even if it doesn't work out the first time they're totally cool with you coming back and trying again. Just make sure you get through the onboarding and you don't have to deal with all that. I think the number one reason people fail is because they don't take onboarding seriously. It's kind of like when you went to go get your CDL at the DMV. Make sure you pass and then it will be in your past.

      @20plustrucking I'll absolutely be taking it seriously! I'll practically be in the same position as when I got my cdl, which was through Prime Inc. I left home (Maine) & boarded a bus to Springfield, MO. It was sink or swim where I quit my job back home & with hard work, I passed all 3 (Pre-Trip, backing & road test) on test day. But I get you too. There were many people including my roomate during training that didn't take it seriously & found themselves on a bus back home.

    How is the onboarding?? I’ve heard mixed things about it. Some say its easy and some say it’s ridiculous and they unrealistic expectations (obviously they failed).

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I haven't done the onboarding because when I got hired they didn't have that. I do know from speaking with a lot of people that have gone through it it's not easy but it's not impossible either. The key is to just do exactly what they ask you to do and they show you how to do it. It's no surprise it has everything to do with people need to follow instructions and pay attention to the example. From what I hear drivers that have drove for a very long time that have an attitude of I know what I'm doing and I'm not going to be told what to do generally don't pass. Also yes you need to have your hazmat and they will help you get it. I think they give you 120 days after being hired to obtain it. Considering what Walmart offers to new drivers all of this is definitely worth it by far compared to most other jobs.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you're new they're probably just utilizing trucks that are not being used for like 2 days because someone's on their days off. If you're in a program like a 6 3 then that is different. In that case they're getting the maximum use out of two tractors with three drivers. The trucks never stop moving and are used every single day. I'm sure they would rather give you a truck for six days and not be assigning different ones because if you pay attention to what the ops manager has to do to set you up in a truck you would know right away they don't want to do all that work because it's a lot of computer work and checking things to see what's available and for how long.

    • @20plustrucking
      @20plustrucking  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well it's really based on what you want the most. If working Monday through Friday and getting weekends off means the most to you then Walmart may not be what you want because that will take a while to get to that. Although there are multiple schedules to choose from and you can work into one that best suits what you'd like to do after 6 months to a year. If money is your thing then The thing to know is Walmart does say you can make up to $110,000 your first year working here. I believe that is true if you work full-time because I've seen plenty of the new guys do it for sure. This isn't a hard job at least I don't think so. What I like about working here is I don't have to sit and drive all day long like I'm driving cross country meaning that I get a chance to get out and move around multiple times a day so there is a variety of things we do. Also for me I like the no stress of having to hustle all the time because I'm worried I won't make a good wage. I will say this if you've been driving 32 years this is actually a great way to retire because like I said not as much hustle and we have schedules that can back you off from trucking and ease you into retirement. A good example is like the schedule I have where I work 5 days on 5 days off. We also have a schedule that they don't advertise but they have it where you only work one week a month but if you do that you can only get benefits for you and not your wife. It's really hard to help someone else make a decision on what they want because you know better than anyone else what you want out of a job so I can only give you examples of some of the stuff I like about working here. If you have any questions or concerns that you can think of later you can always email me at don@20plustrucking.com

      If you're a new driver you will for a little while depending on what DC you work at. I've heard of some guys getting their own truck pretty fast. Also it depends on what schedule you go with because some schedules you share a truck with another driver or two. I think usually if you start out and have to slip seat it's only like once a week maybe twice a week at the most. When I started working at Walmart I only had to do slip seating for about a month and then I had my own truck after that.

      Actually the last thing you said isn't exactly being honest about most Walmart drivers not making over $100,000 but I am curious where do you work. Like I said in my videos they're other jobs out there that can make over $100,000 but you're not normally going to have all the benefits that we have (like the amount of PTO) and makeover 100,000.
