    I have owned two velars in the past five years. You should be aware that they have a fabulous voice command system for most of the main features, temperature controls, fan speed etc. So it's far from dangerous because one just talks to the car without being distracted. Simple!

    This “design trend” has more to do with shrinkflation than it has to do with design. It costs the manufacturers less to incorporate everything in a screen than it does to machine buttons and switchgear.
    I personally think that high end cars should have tactile and jewel- like controls. It’s not only more convenient than trying to navigate through screen menus while driving, but if done properly, it doesn’t have to feel cluttered and adds eye candy.
    On this car, that big span of nothingness in the centre console now makes it look cheap.

      Agree... I prefer the buttons

    Less clutter???? You really mean Dangerous to use when driving. Just because lots of Manufacturers are doing this doesn't make it right. Give us buttons not Menus and sub menus

      Reductive sleek design, not festooned with brash buttons.

      This is a poignant plank in ergonomics....that many automotive modernesque design engineers have chosen to trash over pragmatic approach to many a user interface in cars today

      Totally agree,theyve forgotten driver need physical buttons to twiddle,not touch screens.
      Fills me with fear on next lease.
      Keep the twiddling alive

      So, functional buttons and dials are branded as clutter! Perhaps manufacturers should listen to what customers want. The pivi-pro system looks good but seems laggy compared other leading brands. Exterior design classy.

  • @-hm2pu
    @-hm2pu ปีที่แล้ว +11

    They should go back to the rotery knob instead of a traditional shifter it makes the interior cleaner and more unik like they were before.

    No one wants to menu dive for basic and frequent functions, so please stop presenting as though having every option accessed through touch screen menus is a good thing.

  • @jonathanbillings9847
    @jonathanbillings9847 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    trying to navigate a screen whilst driving is a design fault not a design simplification. The company could easily create a master tactile switch/wheel that controls everything but this would cost. I see one screen touchscreens as cost cutting.

    It's the old minimalist/modernist argument... less is more, or is less a bore! Personally, I think the dash looks cheap, like someone has just stuck a tablet on it, without much thought. Be interested to see how easy the interface is to use.

  • @richardrichard9631
    @richardrichard9631 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Sorry I love minimalistic interiors, but this doesn't work for me. You do need some buttons to work things quickly and with out taking your eyes of the road.

  • @samcas707

    Shame they’ve gotten rid of the metal speaker grilles and Union Jack perforated leather. Those small details made it feel more premium. Jump in a Grecale and the Italians have left JLR behind

    • @colinhare4722
      @colinhare4722 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Grecale interior is surprisingly tacky with cheap hard plastics in abundance. Not at all what I expected.

      @@colinhare4722 where are the plastics? the dash upper and lower is leather, the full door is leather, the centre tunnel is leather, the airbag cover is leather, the a/b/c/d pillars and roof are alcantara, the speaker grilles are metal, the interior trim is carbon, the shift paddles are metal.....

    Matt.. One could say the Velar is the one that got away... sadly and incorrectly overlooked. Looks fantastic. And has a unique place in the market. Niche! The urban SUV but can cut it in the country side. I even know a farmer who has one! Tows the sheep trailer like it isn't there! Lux sheep transporter! As always 'spot on' review on a Range Rover that has had a 'bit of a tweak!' . And next week?......do we hear the sound of an M2?

    I test drove a fully loaded 3 litre Velar a couple of years ago. Took it over a potholed road in my local area and couldn't feel a thing. Put my foot down and boy did it shift.
    An awesome bit of kit and if I could afford one I'd certainly get one. My BMW X1 feels so tinny in comparison.

    I just part exd my Velar P300 HSE for a new 2023 Sport D350 Autobiography. I loved my Velar, however full set of brakes and discs every 12,000 miles at z cost of £2,000 a go. I really hope and would like to know if JLR have upgraded the brakes. I've they haven't do NOT buy.

    if i were a car engineer that has to keep the fuel/electric consumption down, I would end up in a deep existential crisis, because SUV's are just marketing and status. Luckily I work in the aviation industry, where things are...rational?
