Great video, I actually watched some of your older videos while researching whether to buy one and after afew delays because of the chip shortage I'm happy to say I'll be able to pick up my 21MY velar in afew weeks. From the videos I've seen the new Pivi Pro system will definately improve the bugs and the speed in the old system which was probably my only concern. I went for the mild hybrid D220, firenze red, black pack, r-dynamic, pan sun roof, automatic parking, electrically reclining heated rear seats for the kids and the exact same interior as yours 👌🏽👌🏽

I own a 2018 velar so I can speak from experience your video is spot on. I haven’t experienced the roof rack flying off and I hope I don’t but it’s good to know that for what they cost new that shouldn’t happen. I have experienced the screen locking up and it is soooo frustrating. I’ve also had problems with the radio locking up where the station currently on is the only station you can use until you turn it off for 5 minutes and the system resets. Thanks for your time to make this video it was interesting and it also let me know that others have the same problems but Range Rover service won’t acknowledge it. They always tell me we never heard of this before. Another quirk I just experienced was the remote start wouldn’t work because it said a window was open but clearly they weren’t. It was a software issue, the dealer had to reset all the limits on the windows, didn’t even know there was such a thing.
Thank you for sharing your similar experiences! I recently noticed my remote start is a hit and miss, which is annoying since I have to pay a subscription fee for that feature!
I have the exact same car, 2018 model. Beautiful car but so unreliable it’s frustrating! Bloody car loses performance every now and again. I don’t know how many times I’ve taken it back to Land Rover for repairs, just in 2021 🤦🏽♀️😭 … it it’s still under warranty! I would never buy this car again!!
Have you been told the cause of the performance issues or what had been replaced? Have had only one issue with the car which affected the performance. I was told it was fault with the built in JLRTB02023V4 vct solonoid which was changed and haven’t had issues done then.
Really appreciate your review. I've always wanted a RR but everyone I've ever mentioned it to says that I should buy two, this way I'll have one to drive while the other is in the shop!😱😳😫 Also, you have a valid point about how long it takes when roadtripping with an electric car. You need to tack on extra time. My clients who have Teslas say it's not an issue. "While you charge you can take a nap or a walk, or grab a bite to eat". But the thought of running out of 'electricity' scares the crap out of me as I live in the middle of the desert!
You won’t run out. I’ve rented one and the software is great. It’ll calculate your trip and tell you where to stop to get some juice so you’ll have more miles if you’re going on a long trip. Funnest car I’ve ever driven.
Great review! I own a 2019 Velar. Love the looks...red with black. You're so right about the infotainment system and how it freezes or locks up sometimes. Also about the large expenses to maintain the vehicle! Also just spent $2K on 4 new tires. Also had to replace fuel pump at $1,200. Vehicle has a great smooth ride. Looks good. Basically satisfied with the vehicle now and only have 35K miles on it. Not sure how long i will keep it or what next vehicle will be. Love the looks of Range Rovers.
Love this review, thank you very much.🙏🏾❤️ The infotainment system sounds like our work database.🤦🏾♀️ You deserve more for the price of this car, beautiful as it is.
I just purchased a 2021 Velar I appreciate the review the software system has absolutely improved… I have the same interior now I’m on Amazon looking for seat covers 😭😭
It's a beautiful SUV, wish it has a fully digital odometer. For these types of high-end vehicles, I would prefer buying certified pre-own instead of paying the full price due to the fast decpreciation.
They do have a model where the odometer is fully digital. But I agree about buying it pre-owned, it is incredibly expensive, just to drop 20% in value after a month of driving it!
I bought mine in 2018 ex demo.. R dynamic S but it was upgraded as a memo. 4.5yrs later I still love it. After buying a brand new evogue in 2016 I bought a new jaguar f pace which was shit and lasted 8 months then I got the velar and I love ir
@@TrendingReviews broo....where do I get that kind of money 🤣🤣🤣you do realise I live in a third world country...the tax alone is equivalent to the cost of that car
Nice video. I drove one as a rental because my HSE was in the shop. You are so right on the cost when these beautiful cars have to be serviced you shell your thousands $$$ on oil change, service, and if you ever experienced a misfire in your engine well even more money $$$$. When had the velar it felt like you were in a cockpit. It was okay but I was use to driving a bigger vehicle. Smaller then I like. I like the HSE because it’s taller and I sits higher. Nice car but thinking about getting a Lincoln Aviator, I’m tired of shelling out all this money on service. Love driving it, but after they serviced my engine for a misfire and I drove it 5miles down the road and it popped back on I drove it right back to the dealership pissed because I just gave them a lot of money to fix my engine and you would have thought I had it fixed by a side of the road shop. My white on white range is beautiful for a 2013 but after owing BMW & Mercedes, I had best service with Mercedes but the GLK was too small, love driving my range but hate when things go wrong $, BMW X5 I had for 10 years. We shall see🤔
Thanks for sharing your experience! I also have a Mercedes A Class which I've had for around 10 years now, and it's still going strong - so its a shame the amount of service and maintenance costs you have to shell out for a range rover. My guess is that because they classify it as an upper-class premium vehicle, they assume everyone buying it can easily afford the $$$$ prices to maintain it, because they essentially won't have any other option, especially after paying so much for the car itself.
shortlisted the Q5, GLC, Velar, XC60 and X3. Would love to pick the velar but super hesitant as I hear a lot of reliability issues with Jaguar Land Rover but the car looks so good compared to the rest
Had my Velar 2 years now and absolutely nothing has gone wrong and I mean NOTHING. Had two other Range Rovers in the past and apart from a water pump on the oldest one, only the usual wear and tear things needed attention. By comparison my Mercedes E320 had endless electrical faults and kept going into limp mode. I also abandoned my 4 year old Audi A6 having replaced, the CAT, EGR, Turbo and power steering pump in a period of just 6 months. JLR products are as reliable as any other modern car if you look after them. Most people that claim they are unreliable have never actually owned one, they just parrot what they've heard. You'd be amazed at the number of 'fancy' cars I have helped rescue over the years with Range Rovers.
@@TicketyBoo. I don’t think any of the cars in this list are particularly reliable as there’s no mention of Lexus/Toyota etc however all of the data suggest the JLR will breakdown first. I don’t think the people saying that brand is unreliable have to own it to read basic data. Yes you may have one that’s done a million miles with no issues but that’s anecdotal not exactly what the wider data suggests.
@@TicketyBoo. You are correct about people who have never owned one are the ones that criticize them the most. For them it helps ease their FOMO of not buying one because they can't or don't have the courage but recognize how nice they are. I've had 3 Range rovers -- the old Sport, First Edition Velar, and now a Sport SVR for 3 years. Zero problems for all 3, just maintenance. Meanwhile my friends with Volvo's and BMW's have had so many issues, some really bad. Another friends Tesla has been a nightmare with complete shut downs. I'm getting either the new full size or next gen Sport after this one.
@@joey-pn3xe Silly post. I've owned a 2012 Range Rover with 120,000 miles on the clock - about 80,000 of which have been towing a horse box- and it has never broken down. Yes, I've had some silly niggles but in terms of drive-train reliability RR products are as good as any other.
I like the look of the Vellar but the boot for me is not big enough with the back seats up. Boot space is critical for what I do. It would have been good to know about the fuel consumption and tyre usage and the miles he has done each year. I had an old style Discovery and did 60k miles in it and it was faultless and didnt cost a lot to service. I didnt like its replacement , looks like a jelly mould and top heavy so bought my second Audi Q7, Now 3 1/2years old . One set of tyres . two services costing approx. £350,0 each and running faultlessly. On mine no touch screen . I hate them and think they can be dangerous if you use them on the move. Next car will be a Q8 I think. The Defender looks workmanlike but is frankly too small which is a shame . The boot is narrow compared to the Disco and less roomy.
I have had my roof trim fly off while driving also! For reference, it flew off my 2017 Land Rover, Discovery Sport. I'm thinking about getting a Velar but still on the fence. I appreciate this review.
Oh really? I thought I might have been the only one! I am going this Thursday to get it replaced after arguing with them for 2 months now - they will be paying for it.
@@TrendingReviews I know the feeling! I am glad they were able to come to a reasonable resolution with you, interacting with the dealership with things such as these can be a pain. The first time it happened, they ordered and installed free of charge. The second time (yes it happened twice lol), I kept calling and they were always in the process of ordering...Fast forward past all the back and forth, I was told the rack is on back order and they will call me instead when the part arrives. May 2022, will make two years since I was told this and not a word in regards to the rack. I left it alone and decided I will have to purchase myself and get it installed. I have recently seen them online for $185 USD.
That's crazy it happened twice! Mine was told it was backorder too, but it took 6-8 weeks to finally arrive, and then they had to paint it black before I could get it fitted. I had to keep calling for updates because they never called me when it was actually sitting there ready for me to have fitted - but the cost I was quoted was around $500 for the part and fitting, so it definitely would be cheaper to order yourself and get a local garage to fit it.
@@TrendingReviews Yess and it's so frustrating, the whole thing! That's the exact thing that happened to me the first go-round, they never called and when I called, found out the part came in and was just sitting there at the dealership, they claimed. Yes indeed, based off customer reviews, these are sturdier than the original but I'll see how that goes. Lol I guess it's better than mechanical issues but still very much an inconvenience to get resolved.
Nice video and you've told the truth as I'm an owner of a Velar. Fortunately, I brought mine to outside shops for oil changes/maintenance and after 3yrs, the maintenance cost is around $1K total. BTW, I had to bring mine to dealer for VVT failed, sw updated.. but all free cause they're under warranty.
Thank you for sharing the feedback! I'm now outside of my warranty after 4 years, so I'm going to see how much maintenance costs me on a yearly basis going forward - hopefully its manageable!
Would you trust it offroad? I'd like to upgrade my rig and I'll have several trips on unimproved roads. Not bouldering, though. Or maybe a Defender or Disco would be the better alternative.
Yep, these are built for off road too. When I first bought it, they gave me a free "Land Rover Experience Day" which included taking the Velar off road through mud, ponds, poor terrain, very steep hills etc. And it performed very well.
I agree this is a great looking car and gives you all the SUV-ness you might need without looking like a Ranulph Fiennes wannabe. All cars have issues and big 3 German marques are no different. As for tech, l hired a Mercedes E400d last year to go to Scotland and thought the Sat nav on the instrument binnacle was great, rather than the middle of the dash. Until l lost it and couldn't get it back. 300 miles later when I took it back to Avis l accidentally found it again. I prefer to get near the destination and then use my phone so cocking about with a touch screen when you're doing 70 isn't necessary.
Bought a 2021 velar in Feb., traded in for a LT Trailboss truck in 2021 November. Now I am super happy that velar was in the shop 5 times in less than a year what a garbage can, but what really made me walk away was the Velar's roof lining was falling apart... like wtf its not even a year old and the roof lining its coming loose??? never again will I waste my money on a range rover. I bought my wife a 2021 Santa Fe SEL AWD, it has at least 20 more useful features than the velar's and its worth like $20k less and let me put this out there for a few more $ we got her 125k miles bumper to bumper insurance with no year limit, so if it takes you 20 years to put in 125k miles you are covered.... Range rover has become clickbait for rich people, you just buy the name.
Thank you for sharing that feedback and sorry to hear about all the Velar issues you've had. I know for sure, this will be my 1 and only range rover purchase, after I sell this, I'll be looking for alternatives for sure.
Hello~ I am considering Velar. The dealer in my country said Land Rover only requires owners to come back every 34000 km! It's sounds too amazing! I thought it's gonna be a huge change for me since I am driving a diesel Mazda and it requires me to go back every 5000 km... due to design faults anyway. So would you please list some expenses other than oil or something simply needs to be change routinely? Thanks a lot for sharing!
Thanks for the comment! I don't have much engine problems for the last 4 years. I just get yearly service and thats it. Nothing else needs to be changed routinely. So its good on that part!
Good point about electric cars. 4,5h in a petrol car vs 9h trip in an electric one. Hope the range will increase in next 10 years because it is hard to imagine living with an EV car for now.
Hi Alex - Overall, I would say its been very reliable for me. I've had minimal issues, even though there are small things here and there, like I mentioned in my negative points, but apart from that, the drive has always been great and have not had any engine, breakdown or other issues that would make me regret having this car.
Well here in India Range rover service is on another level. They never asked for payments for the reasons you mentioned and were always responsive.Maybe because of JLR group being Indian and more responsive here
Thanks for posting this. Really nicely made video and very useful for me as considering a used Velar just like this. PS. we have a Tesla Model 3 and regularly drive 1,000 miles to the French Alps. It only takes about an hour longer than it used to take is in an Audi A6 Allroad diesel as we stop every 2-3 hours for a short break anyway and all you do in a Tesla is charge while parked using the toilet and having a coffee. Teslas charge so fast that the extra journey time even over 1,000 miles is not much.
Il French too. Have a model 3 too. And mate if you are used to stop every 2 hours ok. But if not and you are used to do a marseille paris stoping just once for 10 minutes … the Tesla is waisting you about 1.5 hours ! Bothering.
Have a 2019 Velar.. I've had the adaptive cruise stop working. After many times starting car back didn't come back but did when I got a collision warning.. Been fine since. Are you aware of an owner reset for for this problem if it should occur again?
I have a 2019 RR Vogue with the same entertainment system. the black screen happened occasionally, but buging the handfree phone is for me the biggest letdown as I work in my car. out of the blue the phine is still connected, but no sound whilst calling
Have you updated your Vehicle and Infotainment software? My Velar's infotainment screens now boots up within a couple of seconds even on a cold start (having not started the car in weeks) and even the response time is pretty fast. I still wish JLR would bring at least a Pivi Pro like theme (even if it isn't Pivi Pro itself), because its just software. If they can remove buttons and change icons, they can bring a newer theme easily
I have an evoque with the same system…its on the latest version and i can say it boots quick enough (maybe 4-5 seconds) on cold start, and almost instant otherwise
@@greef_karga6402 Yeah, I was quite impressed at how much the performance improved after a software update last year. Sadly, it also removed some functions on the lower screen

Hmmm Congestion charge applies to everyone, even if you drive a Mini, so not sure how relevant that is to running costs. Good video mate and lovely wheels.
Yeah that's true - I forgot to mention ULEZ charge also - I know that applies to ALL newer low emission cars, but should have also mentioned that as a city cost too.
Hello, I am going to pick up a 2018 Velar tomorrow that I purchased. I will be on the road for 5 hours. In my Range Rover that I am replacing I used an iPode to my audi and video. The Velar had the Meridian Suround system. How do I get my music into it? Can you connect an iPod to it? I know it has SirusXM but I prefer my own audio/video. Is there any way for me to get my music into the system? Thanks,
Hi - I've not found any way to connect an iPod directly to the system on the Velar - I only connect my devices via Bluetooth and play through the Meridian sound system. The only other way is if you manually transfer music via the USB port onto the Media section of the system. But again, I haven't tried this myself. Sorry!
Great video. A beautiful car indeed. By the way, what is the colour of the car? Is it a Solid Fuji White or Ostuni Pearl White? I am planning to buy a Plug-in Hybrid version of the Velar.
I drive a 2021 DiscoverySport. My roof trim also ‘went missing’.Paid full price to have it replaced. My current problem is a rattling sound coming from the roof-right hand side. It’s a very very loud rattling sound. My car is going back for the second time to have the interior roof reopened again in attempts to fix the rattling sound. I am sooooo disappointed with this car and general service by this particular dealer.

Mine doesnt have this problem.
Have you been told the cause of the performance issues or what had been replaced? Have had only one issue with the car which affected the performance. I was told it was fault with the built in JLRTB02023V4 vct solonoid which was changed and haven’t had issues done then.
What was the issue? How many times did broke
The Diesel 180 is super reliable. Just slow
Like any car… not just this one. Look after it.
380 HSE Velar simply the finest car I’ve ever owned
Absolutely loved my First Edition Velar R-Dynamic - and miss it. I appreciated the review.
Thank you for your feedback and sharing your experience! I totally agree - it has been a great vehicle to have all these years!
Love this review, thank you very much.🙏🏾❤️ The infotainment system sounds like our work database.🤦🏾♀️ You deserve more for the price of this car, beautiful as it is.
Thank you for the feedback! I agree 100% - Definitely deserve a lot more for how much this car costs.
I just purchased a 2021 Velar I appreciate the review the software system has absolutely improved… I have the same interior now I’m on Amazon looking for seat covers 😭😭
Great to hear!
Did you find any good fitting seat base covers?
Any issues with your car yet? I’m thinking about getting one
Mine is fully digital, just need the HSE spec and it’s standard
Mine is fully digital
I love this car and it's one of my dream car, hope to buy it this year
Good luck!
I bought mine in 2018 ex demo.. R dynamic S but it was upgraded as a memo. 4.5yrs later I still love it. After buying a brand new evogue in 2016 I bought a new jaguar f pace which was shit and lasted 8 months then I got the velar and I love ir
Great review for people wanting to know more about the Velar! Subscribed👍🏽
Excellent review, thanks for taking the time to do it.
What brought me to this channel...my dream car
Welcome!! :D
@@TrendingReviews bro, you said you can't donate this beast to me after you're done with it?
Yeah, I'll donate it to you for a cool £50K 😂
@@TrendingReviews broo....where do I get that kind of money 🤣🤣🤣you do realise I live in a third world country...the tax alone is equivalent to the cost of that car
Oh I hear you about Tax bro. Tax here is no walk in the park either - we get targeted from all sides! 😂
How is your HSE. I want to buy that one
this is a very honest and thorough review which i really appreciate. thank you.
Thank you!
shortlisted the Q5, GLC, Velar, XC60 and X3. Would love to pick the velar but super hesitant as I hear a lot of reliability issues with Jaguar Land Rover but the car looks so good compared to the rest
JLR will breakdown first. Almost a guarantee
Great review. I also got the 2017 Velar and have exactly the same issue withe the electronic screen.
Great review. I'm actually thinking about buying a 2018 Velar. 👍
Had mine almost 3 years and have to agree on the long range trips, definitely worth having the air suspension on these. 😊
Which is is better the P250, 300, 340 or 380? I really want to buy one
great review. would you recommend getting a used 2017 velar in 2024?
Thank you for this long term review. Not sure we will buy after watching this. Looking at a 2022
Glad I could help with your decisions!
Would love to see how it's doing 5-10 years from now too. Great vid! Was thinking about buying one myself.
I'll get back to you in 5 years. Make sure you subscribed to keep track 😂
@@TrendingReviews It's a sexy vehicle for sure. I'm just hesitant about paying $600 a month lol.
The Velar does look amazing 🤩 thanks for sharing your pros & cons. Everything you’ve said, was very helpful information.
You are so welcome!
I’m now stuck on the fence on Verla 2022, mbw x6m and Mercedes GLE . I don’t know which one to go for. What about Audi
Great review, I’m waiting delivery of my Velar D300 HSE.
Any updates
Nice vid. Im considering this ride. However hearing things from you i cant imagine the kind of nightmare to own one outside UK
Honest review 👍🏻🫡
Good man, very subtle but potent review.
Thank you!
What’s the point of the Velar when you can buy the RR sport for almost the same price or less
Did you go for an extended warranty ? I notice even the JLR dealerships by me use third party warranty companies just charge more money for them.
I just sold my 2019 velar and just book another 2022 velar cant wait to get this beauty
Yep I followed u since 2017🔥love the velar

I am planning to buy one in the coming few weeks time. Is it worth taking the Extended Warranty , TLC Insurance, and the Minor Remain plans ?

Couldn't believe it's an 4 year old car. Very well maintained.
I keep it clean every week! :D - Thank you!

Great car and hasn’t aged
Good point about electric cars.
4,5h in a petrol car vs 9h trip in an electric one. Hope the range will increase in next 10 years because it is hard to imagine living with an EV car for now.
100% Agree! And hopefully they become a lot more affordable too!
I'm grateful for getting this car
Awesome video, I really appreciate it. I was thinking about buying a used one over a BMW X6. How is the overall reliability from your perspective?
Hi Alex - Overall, I would say its been very reliable for me. I've had minimal issues, even though there are small things here and there, like I mentioned in my negative points, but apart from that, the drive has always been great and have not had any engine, breakdown or other issues that would make me regret having this car.
I wish I’ll have it. It’s a nice car and very good interview. Some critics made me concerned
it doesnt matter what you said about this car ,still the best car ever ,i own one and i have no issue with it
Im looking to buy one on the used market. But i was concern about reability issues on this brand. Good to know after 4 years is doing well.
It has remained reliable on many levels, so overall I'm happy!
I am literally about to pay a deposit for a 2019 model with one year's warranty but everyone is telling me not to do it due to reliability!

Bothering.
The seat staining is literally the reason why I'll only get dark colored seats
Great Review!
Have a 2019 Velar.. I've had the adaptive cruise stop working. After many times starting car back didn't come back but did when I got a collision warning.. Been fine since. Are you aware of an owner reset for for this problem if it should occur again?
I'm not aware of an owner reset option - is it something we can do or we'd have to go to the service centre to do it?
I have a 2019 RR Vogue with the same entertainment system. the black screen happened occasionally, but buging the handfree phone is for me the biggest letdown as I work in my car. out of the blue the phine is still connected, but no sound whilst calling
how's the headlight at night? is it bright? :)
Super bright!
Mine is up-to-date with the latest version, and its still as slow as ever. What version do you have out of curiosity?
@@TrendingReviews My Velar's Infotainment Software is on version S21A and the Vehicle Software is on version 14.2. What version are you on?
I have an evoque with the same system…its on the latest version and i can say it boots quick enough (maybe 4-5 seconds) on cold start, and almost instant otherwise

Why does the screen flash on the info displays?
My uncles velar lease is almost up and decided whether we should buy it from him, he paid 60k new and now it’s worth 32k

Hey mate, great video. Can i ask what device do you have mounted on yoir leather dash area?
What’s was the cost on this trim package when you bought it?
Hmmm Congestion charge applies to everyone, even if you drive a Mini, so not sure how relevant that is to running costs. Good video mate and lovely wheels.
Yeah that's true - I forgot to mention ULEZ charge also - I know that applies to ALL newer low emission cars, but should have also mentioned that as a city cost too.
Im looking to buy 2018 r dynamic 40k miles should i buy it?
Sorry!
I've a 2020 ipace and I'm thinking of swapping for a velar 3.0 diesel, any comments on this I would find helpful, cheers
