  • Today we're checking out the newly announced ADV160 scooter, which will be our 2023 Honda ADV 160 here in the USA and other corners around the world as well! It hasn't been "officially" announced / released for our market just yet, which is why I say "sneak peek" in the thumbnail. This little automatic motorcycle / scooter has been one of Honda's most popular adventure styled bikes and with this round of updates and changes for this year to the ADV 160 compared to the older ADV 150, it's bound to be another success story for Honda and should continue to be one of their best scooters for sale today. The ADV 160 joins the lineup with the Honda Ruckus, Honda Metropolitan and Honda PCX 160 here in the USA. Sadly, American Honda has yet to announce the release of the newly updated ADV 350 we've all been wanting here in the USA... so this little guy will have to do for now!

    That's great news! I'm still holding out for the ADV350 release here in the States, but it's anyone's guess if that will happen or not. It looks like Honda ticked all of the boxes to upgrade the minor shortcomings of the ADV150 on this new model.
    Slightly lower seat, much cleaner digital dash, taller windscreen, and a wider leg shield will make huge differences in usability for most riders. Those points were the particular ones that I touched upon in my PCX versus ADV video about a year ago. Well done Honda! 😉👍 --QM

      lol yeah, we might be holding our breathe indefinitely on that ADV350 release here in the states - if it's not announced in our next round of announcements coming in the next few months.
      Yessir, they definitely did well on ticking some of the boxes where it could stand to be tweaked a bit. It really does make this quite the package. I really wish they could find a way to keep it priced under that $4k mark but beggars can't be choosers as we're already limited enough when it comes to scooter options here in the states.
      Appreciate the support as always QM ;)

  • @Hello-yn9pf
    @Hello-yn9pf ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Unfortunately the ADV 150 just carried over to 2023 and not even a different color. Just Rose Red. It would be nice to get a ADV350 or even a 250 if Honda can just make a business case to bring the motor bike here to America. Maybe offer it in two color choices as well such as silver and black. Judging from all the comments below and on other videos and sites the demand is high for anything above the ADV150 in America. Obviously Honda is deeply focused on the British and Southeast Asian and South American markets leaving North Americans with low displacement scooter options. Please wake up Honda and look at the demand that is out there. Bring a 250 or 350 cc ADV scooter to America. It will sell here. It is not a Silverwing or a Forza.

    • @Ethan.s..
      @Ethan.s.. 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Their last attempt of bringing a higher displacement scooter to the US was the 2014 - 2015 Forza. It didn’t sell well so it had a limited run. It seems every so often they try selling a maxi scooter here and it doesn’t do well, particularly after the first year.

    Thanks for the video Kevin! I have a 2021 Honda ADV150 (Silver and Black) and I'm enjoying it. I actually like the fact that the ADV160 sits lower for more stability, especially for those who are shorter in stature. I'm waiting for the dealership to get one in so I can throw my short leg around it too! ;) Did I see the ADV160 has duel disk brakes? ✌

      Yessir and thank you for watching!
      Heck yeah! The ADV150 is a blast to rip around on for sure and the 160 really is a nice step in the right direction for the platform. Yeah, the 160 has disks front / rear but so did the 150... well, except for in the US lol! For some odd reason American Honda brings the 150 in with a drum out back and I have yet to figure out the exact reasoning behind that decision. Here's to hoping we don't get a "downgrade" again when it comes time to start bringing the 160 over here. Ultimately, it's not that big of a deal but still...

    Great improvements over the ADV150 Honda but please tell your dealers not to add a markup. MSRP plus standard destination and dealer prep is enough. My local dealer just tacked on a $2,000 mark up on almost all their bikes! That’s a good way to turn off customers. There is NO justification to gouging $2,000 on a $4,299 scooter.

  • @Hello-yn9pf
    @Hello-yn9pf ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hits the sweet spot for Honda motor bikes/motor scooters. Unfortunately, dealers are racking on $2,000 mark ups because of “the perfect storm”, low supply and high demand fueled by high fuel and vehicle prices. My fellow scooter riders are a frugal bunch and refuse to pay $8,000 for a scooter that has an MSRP under $5,000. I would say to all consumers out there DO NOT pay over MSRP to these greedy dealers and send them a message consumers will not tolerate price gouging just because they think they can get away with it. Great scooter but will not pay the mark up.

    The changes they made are so good for a model that's just released a few years ago.
    somehow they managed to changed the look of the fairings, increase storage space, make changes to windshield, handlebars and seat height, and brought their engine from PCX to the ADV.
    I was planning to get Tricity 155 but the changes was so minor it wasn't even worth the extra wheel for stability, imma just get the ADV 160 and fit a pair of City Grip 2 on it for wet weather.

    If they'd put the other 190cc on it I bet they'd sell a lot better here.
    I'm sure Honda figures these are perfect for urban areas where the majority of people in the world live, and they're spot on.
    But urbanites in USA are not the same as Thais or Japanese or Vietnamese.
    When's the last time you seen rows of little scooter sized parking spots in an American city?
    Have they seen size of our trucks and SUVs?
    We need scoots sized for our larger backsides to cruise at highway speed for our commutes.
    ADV line matches the faux offroad aesthetic we tend to love, but we need more than 160cc.

    • @HondaProKevin
      @HondaProKevin  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh yeah, 100%!
      You're spot on there, we need some larger scooter options here in the states. Now that we no longer have the Silverwing 600, Forza 300 and all of the rest that came before them - we have nothing to choose from if you want something larger than a 160 and it's been that way for quite a few years now, which is baffling. I'd love to talk with some of the people making these decisions at American Honda and see why they do this or that when it comes to picking which models to import and why they don't bring X but will bring Y and Z over etc. It'd have to be a super interesting conversation as you would think there's a lot of research behind these decisions.

    • @willyjimmy8881
      @willyjimmy8881 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HondaProKevin It's the same reasons the company I work for doesn't bring the models to the US that enthusiasts keep asking for, enthusiasts don't equal paying customers.
      I just think in the scooter segment they miscalculated where the market is. My guess is they figure if the scooter market is gonna take off it'll be driven by practical things like gas prices, so 110 Navi, PCX/ADV160, Metro, that's the barometer to see if there's an appetite. Then someday we might grow into maxi-scooters. But these bikes are not practical in the States. If they can't carry a 250lb rider at highway speeds they'll never be any more that a 3rd vehicle bought just for fun, or a lifestyle purchase. And as long as our politicians are content with wrecking the economy fewer people will be buying a 3rd vehicle of any type.
      If you want a useable bike for commuting, the 500cc bikes can do 70mpg and keep up with traffic with a 250lb rider. Throw on a set of boxes and you can haul enough stuff for most people. If you can only have 1 vehicle for your family, it's never gonna be a bike in the US. You can get a hybrid RAV4 that gets 50+ mpg, drive it anywhere, with AC, and storage, and even take your spouse if you're not into peace and quiet.
      Scooters are doomed in the US if the manufacturers don't go back to the board room and rethink the segment. If they're trying to solve a problem, is the current scooter the best way to solve it? If it's a lifestyle purchase or a toy, is it exciting and fun enough to justify the cost? The need to stop trying to push the same products we've already rejected

      American Honda doesn't advertise MPG for the ADV150 but it's rated at 40 km/l around the world which comes out to 94 MPG. The ADV160 is rated at 45 km/l which equals about 105 MPG so definitely a nice little bump there. I meant to talk about that in the video but apparently, I forgot lol!
      Oh yeah, I think the ADV350 would sell very well here in the USA! The X-ADV would be awesome, but I think it might be a hard sell for the $$ it would cost here in the USA. I think it'd be super interesting to see the numbers and talk to the people making the decisions as to why or why not American Honda will import X model but not Y or Z model etc and how they determine which ones to "try" out here in the states.

    I do not understand the ABS Antilock Braking System versus combined braking system.
    My Honda ADV-150 bikes have the left hand brake lever operating the rear brake only, which does NOT have ABS. The right hand brake lever operates the front brake only, that does have ABS.
    It is my understanding that our Honda PCX-160 bikes have ABS on the front wheel only. The front lever also applies some braking to the rear wheel as combined braking. As I cannot read the Thai language service manual I do not know which lever operates 60% front and 40% rear braking.
    So there is ABS on the front wheel, and combined braking on both wheels, on the PCX
    The height and arrangement of our older ADV-150 bikes made them handle more like touring bikes. The new ADVs seem to be more like the PCX bikes. I noticed no knobby tyres, so it is a sealed road bike now, rather than a unseal road and tracks bike.
    I believe Australia is demanding ABS on front and rear wheels to comply with motor transport safety regulations.

Looking at other videos and online owners manual, it appears that certain 160's are being produced with it. My second question is whether this function can be disengaged to ride. I'm having to decide in a couple of weeks whether to trade my ADV 150 for a 160 and this feature would be a deal breaker for me unless it can be disengaged.

    Aye that's the 160 cc version which officially launched in Jakarta, Indonesia last Friday (July 1st, 2022). Really hypes here.
    I am going to take one the ABS version for my self, maybe the black or red matte one. Personally, I wish to get the glossy version but it's sad, they just come for CBS version.

    I'm from the U.S. but living abroad in Thailand. I just bought this new ADV 160 it's so much cheaper in Thailand than the U.S. This is the first moderately sized motorbike I've ridden in 30 years I'm amazed how much the technology has changed. This ADV is like riding a rocketship compared to my old 84 Kawasaki 750 LTD. Yes, I know the ADV is just a "scooter" but it's an unbelievable ride it's flawless in many ways. Very smooth acceleration, simple turning, tight suspension it feels like this bike can go anywhere. If I was in the U.S. I'd get the smoky gray color, it's by far the best. Don't even consider the PCX 160.

    • @Ethan.s..
      @Ethan.s.. 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn’t say don’t even consider the PCX 160, it is very similar in every aspect. The PCX is geared more towards riding on pavement. It’s more a matter of style choice really. I have a 2022 PCX (160), picked one up with 500 miles on it recently, saved about $1500. Vs new.

    • @SladeBling
      @SladeBling 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Ethan.s.. You got a great deal, it's so expensive to buy new in the U.S. I've got friends that ride the Forza 350 man that is the Rolls Royce of scooters, and it sells cheaper in Thailand than a new 160 in U.S. However, it is nice to have a smaller scooter here in Thailand as there are so many millions of cars and bikes on the road we get to go to squirm in between cars/trucks/ and go to the front of the line at stoplights. Still, I'm looking to buy a 2nd bike, the Royal Enfield 411 is a nice little motorcycle that I'm interested in. Honda has a CL500 model here it's nice but to me a little boring it sells for around 6K here I think it'd be over 7K in the U.S. after tax. Congrats on your PCX 160!

    I've been thinking about getting a motorcycle/ scooter and I really like the look of the adv150 (Honda please bring the x adv to the us) but as a bigger guy I'm not sure if 160ccs would be enough to keep up with traffic, although I would just ride it to work and back and I hardly ever experience traffic on my 10mile drive to work

    • @paul5683
      @paul5683 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To be honest, the honda adv 150 kinda sucks in highway traffic. It'll go up to the low 60s mph and then the rev/speed limiter will come on and the bike will start jerking around. The power will cut out until you are going slow enough and then kick in again. This isn't so bad on level roads but coming down a big hill there really is no reason for the drive system to start doing that.

    Hi - I would very much like it if Honda would add a rear disc brake with ABS to the new ADV160. If there is still a dumb-drum brake back there in 2023, I will pass again. I am still waiting even more patiently for either the Forza 300/350 or an ADV300/350 as I do NOT think Honda will ever give us touring riders that are older and cannot hold up our GL1800s anymore a suitable touring scooter! I sold my 'Wing and now have a Ram Diesel instead but a Forza or ADV in 300cc/350 cc with ABS front and rear and 4 gallon (or more!) tank would suit me fine. Any news on that, Kevin? I am also now a subscriber having received your email for some time now.

      lol yeah, that's a difficult one to say the least! Personally, I'd probably give the ADV a try since you already have a PCX. The ADV would open up the door of being able to swerve off of paved roads and do a little exploring that you wouldn't have done otherwise and she still feels just as at home on the pavement, so you wouldn't really be losing much there when compared to the PCX. Definitely one to put some thought into though!

      Congrats on your new ADV!
      I wouldn't sweat it too much though. It'll be a while before these make it to the US and in the timeframe, you'll get to have a blast on yours and thanks to the whole rona mess, bikes are holding their values better than ever. So that way if you find that you love the ADV150 but want the features and extra power of the 160, you'll be able to upgrade without losing as much as you would pre-rona value craziness lol. But then again, you may find that you'd rather try something else by the time they release here. I completely understand your frustration though, there is nothing worse than spending your hard-earned money to then find out a better version just released, it's something we all dread, no doubt about it!
