Glad to know you're human. Gives the rest of us hope and encouragement to just get back on track and try again.
Absolutely devastating news mate. I know it says this was three years ago, but it just came up on auto play whilst I was watching some of your crate training guides. This made me an absolute sobbing 43 year old mess! My wife just walked in and said “what the hell’s happened to you?!”
We have a four month old puppy right now, and after the work I’ve tried to put into making him our perfect canine companion, and how much we love animals, can totally relate to your emotions. Crying is not weak, this isn’t the 1800’s. You’re a man that loves and cares. Like you’ve taught me, leadership is love; and you were her leader. Bless you. X
Its not easy, if only more trainer's could admit it!
She's just a baby, she'll get it!
You're dealing with a corso, labs are cake compared aren't they!
Wil you're going to see your work is there it'll shine thru, soon!
Hi Will, I had a Boxer....very smart...When I picked him up at the airport (flown in from Texas to So CA) I was extremely ill. He was 9 weeks old. Because I was ill I had no choice except to put him in his crate, set my alarm for every two hours and take him out. I was very weak so I set up an outdoor dog playpen and sat in a chair until he pooped and peed...then back he went into his crate. This went on for at least two weeks. He was absolutely fine and during all this he became beautifully house broken, by default, and from then on, went in the exact spot that I had set up for him when I was too sick to stand there and wait. When I got my female GSD (now 10 months old) I did the same thing even though I'm not sick! She whined a little but settled down quickly. She has always slept in her crate, in my room, and when she'd whine at night I would just talk to her and she'd go to sleep. I did, however, put my unwashed sweats next to her crate. She loves her crate, closed or open. She also pees (#1 and 2) on command. She's amazing. Her name is Violet and my Boxer was named Mugsie. I'd love to get a Cane Corso, but at my age...it might be too much dog for me. My GSD has tremendous prey drive and until she learned her "manners" she was too much for me. We live in a horse community and when we are walking, she puts herself into a down and doesn't move until I say. So smart!!! Thanks for sharing your journey!
Hi Will, we have the same toy you used in the videos, and our puppy hates picking it up. She'll tug with it, but she has not fetched it once. We mostly play fetch with stuffed animals because those are her favorite. Outside we'll use ball-and-rope toys, but for those she needs treats to actually bring them back.
It's crazy how her motivation to fetch differs from day to day, half of the time she'll wander of without picking it up like Mabel did in this video but sometimes she is soooo eager to bring it back to me.
I really like seeing the successes and setbacks, it's a good reminder that life isn't perfect and I just need to keep up the training even when it feels like we're not making progress. Thanks a million!
Love your honesty bro! We ALL relate to the struggle of living with, and training, a puppy and it is absolutely refreshing for you to share your candid experiences with the rest of us. It makes me feel less alone as I go through my struggles with mine :-)
I think his humanity and truths is what makes his training hit home and makes it #1 out there!
This is a big help. Even though your sweet Mabel is gone, she is still helping others like myself raise their Cane Corsos. Love your Perfect Puppy Course! Big help with my Corso puppy.
Thanks so much Isaac ❤️
Man i almost gave up on my male formentino cane corso a year and a half ago. It was my first time owning this breed as i always had pitbulls and rottweilers. This breed is needy and stubborn. Somehow i stayed at it and it worked out. He still needy and stubborn but also more trainable as he's gotten older. Hang in there!
Keep coming back.I have a 4 month puppy.taught her sit lay down come in the 3 wks she could not go out.now she out in world she got puppy brain.glad that you posted this honest video. Makes me feel better.and you have a wonderful memory of Mabel worst and all.Keep rocking
Thank you so much. We are going to get a french mastiff baby next week and your videos are a huge help for us!!!!! Amazing and truly easy to follow. And the best- authentic
Excellent video!! VERY informative!! i am currently looking for a puppy and will definitely be getting your puppy course.
Love the vids mate doing an awesome job keep them up 👍 when will the website be back up and running??
thanks for the tips just i have a 3 mth old male corso im trying to train,im trying your way and its working thanks man
Just found your channel. I really love the information.
Nice video... I saw a staircase behind you, are you putting in place any boundary training? For those or other rooms. I have a three month old Doberman that I am trying to keep out of the dining room without gates.
Massive help Will! Love these types of videos. Such a beautiful puppy...RIP.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@willathertoncaninetraining Getting a new female puppy this summer. Will order your training courses soon. Thank you!
We have a cane corso and its crazy how similar she is to Mabel was :(. But these videos are invaluable, especially to keep me thinking "slow down" she's just been with us a week!!
I heard from your loss..🙏🏽Stay strong ❤️
My puppy vizsla makes me crazy from time to time 😄
Thank you for being so honest
Hey Will,
I just got a female cane corso grey, and the toilet training was going good when I was picking her up and taking her outside. I as well thought we were doing good and she had two accidents today, so I will go back to step one and take her every hour. One of the issues Lana(puppy) have is that she came in home the first day scare and would not wanted to leave her crate. So I gave her almost two days to settle and calm down. Now we are making slow progress, but she sometimes get too excited and I don’t know how to control her then.
Thank you, especially for showing the problems! E are currently dealing with Litter Mate Syndrome and are running into allot of training issues because of it, despite our pups being so quick to learn.
Glad you found our video helpful Shauna, thanks for watching!
Thank you for the info! When training your dog to ignore the food bowl when you put it down, how would you approach it if your dog lunges at the bowl before it's on the ground and ignores the 'stay' command?
Loved the try it on my kids got a chuckle like you’d take their food lol
Gives me hope your having trouble I have been watching and using advice for my pit bull puppy that I have had for a week and I too kinda had to reset potty training glad I’m not alone makes me feel better
Yet another great informative video. Love that you also included your failures.
Thanks Clive!!
Was just wondering how early you started off lead walking, I’ve just got a presa pup and keen to start off lead training ?
I'm glad i found your Channel. Really interesting
Hey, i like your videos! Is it smart for me to start with that food thing with my 21 months alaskan malamute? --NORWAY
Hi Will wondering if one can train a dog not to take food from strangers? I really want to get a guard dog next year but here in south africa they poisen dogs to brake into houses and want to prevent that from happening.
Such a dedicated trainer!
Even when choosing a specific breed we always have to deal with their specific personality, right?
My whippet pup turned out to be a very extraverted and overly social dog with a bit of a dominant personality and fearless when it comes to interacting with other dogs which often gets him in trouble.
Very yappie on our walks, I'm very happy he's silent now when he's home alone and in his crate .
But it's not what I expected when I went for a whippet, lol!
As they told me they're more demure ,silent and shy.
RIP Maybel
I will utilize the tips about toy motivation for my corso. I rescued her about a month ago. She has absolutely no interest in any toy we try. She recently had a litter so we walk for exercise. Just yesterday she did the play now to me and ran in a circle in the living room. This was after two 45 minute walks, so in thinking she's ready for smithing a little more rigorous.
Cheers.
My corso isn't quite toy motivated either, but shoes on the other hand... Yeah. ... I found the drop command is my friend
Just wondering the length on your Vidar lead
Fabulous! She’s beautiful x
Nice video editing on that montage. I loved those transitions.
Glad you like them!
What you guys think of nutrisource large breed puppy food ? Feeding my english lab with it.
Thank you again for another helpful video. My little Giant Schnauzer has finally turned a corner on the potty training and that has been such a big relief! I can’t even tell you! Sleeps all night, loves her crate. Working on puppy manners. Ur so down to earth with ur approach to training. Keep it up. Thank you peace ✌️
So picked up on the training course... same breed puppy
Camo Corso out of the eclipse line we pick up on Tuesday :) He is 13 weeks old so hopefully training goes well....
Aw love the wrong spelling Cano Corso
I am following you mate really great tips !!
Awesome, thank you!
Shes grown some thinking my next dog will be a cane corso not just because of your videos but done my research on the breed. Just not sure on selecting a good breeder
Thank you so much for this video cause I previously asked about constructive discipline and not necessarily discipline but how to discourage bad behavior in a positive manner.. this was so helpful .. I have one more question on this matter though how do u discourage and prevent destructive behavior .. I previously had an American pitbull that ate couch sets .. walls .. metal kennels and she didn't stop until she was nearly 5 years old and it was expensive and discouraging.. queen was my heart and I couldn't let her go no matter how bad it got.. she passed away of old age about 8 years ago and I was so heartbroken that I couldn't get another dog but I think I'm ready now and looking for a cane Corso puppy .. not without doing thorough homework first though .. so any information u can give to make the process easier is highly appreciated .. again thank u for the videos and learning experience Mabel and u are giving me
@@gankness thank u .. tried that with my Queen I guess she thought furniture was a better option for her .. lol .. but very useful and helpful information
Thank you, I have an 11 week cane corso female who is very sensitive and cries when I leave. My neighbor has a dog and understands. And when get frustrated and correct her more strongly I feel bad.
Hi will can you tell me why my 7 month old jack Russel pups bits me some times and he’s also pulling at my clothes .
I’m watching your videos nightly so I can train my lab mix rescue
Im getting a puppy corso in May should I do the puppy course or ultimate Cane Corso Course?
Awesome channel.
Good instructional vid it’s good to see the failed attempts as well as when the dog finally get what your trying to drill into them I’m going to be getting a pup soon. I’ve watched the series all the way up to this point but when I get my boy I’ll start from the beginning. .... pray for me lol you have a good day or evening bud
I know this is an old video, but man she was beautiful. How’s your Boerboel pup doing? Any videos coming up soon w/him?
We got our cane corso puppy at 8 weeks. He's not almost 12 weeks.. house training has gone well for the most part little to no accidents anymore. He nips alot at us, my kids and cat. I struggle to get him on walks some days. But the crate training.. he screams and cries all night! It's been 7 days of crate at night time.... and still it's just as bad as the first night. I'm so lost at what to do.
I have noticed that playing fetch, makes my lab get into a biting frenzy!!! It gets sooooooo bad that I can't stop him! I end up having to use his crate "home" to help him calm down. It makes me feel like a failure because I can't figure out why he keeps doing that 😣
Not a corso but a mastiff I just got my dogue de bordeaux puppy a week ago and I am exhausted, I feel like a zombie he is not typical of the breed he is much higher drive than others very willfull and stubborn on the dominant side. No fear of anything!!! Very smart very loving but OMG he wears me out. His toilet training is actually comming along well though, he has learned to sit and wait a short time for his dinner im working on increasing the 'wait' part butI take a win where I can get it. He has an obsession with biting feet and toes it is severe I am working on it. He is worse on a leash with the biting of the leash refusing to move, and when he does launches on my feet and anyone elses feet even my older big mastiff mix is not safe though he can tell him off in a way I can't. But he still goes back for more. I will just stick at it puppy classes start soon.
Ok so I need to get ahold of you like a wk ago. I'm not an expert at all no where near but had experience training since after 5 y/old. Will you respond? I hope so bc I'm going to until you do lol. Have a good one
Taught my Fila to pee on command by chirping to her. We trained our race horses the same way..after the winning a race(1,2,3),you have limited time in the piss box for collection and to get other horses ready. So the quicker the collection the better. Just a thought. Comes in handy when traveling or raining. Enjoy your vlogs 😊
I'm trying to do the same with our 7 month old hound, but she has a bladder of steel so it's hard to know when she's gonna go, she'll sniff around and do all sorts of things before she'll wee. I guess I'll have to stay on my toes so I don't miss it. She is more or less perfectly potty trained, but I would like for her to go on command if we are ever in a tight spot.
On a side note, we had a pee-sound for our son when he was an infant. Every time we thought he needed to pee we'd hold him over the toilet or sink and make a hissing sound. It saved us a fortune in diapers, he never had a diaper rash (since his diapers where dry most of the time) and he was completely potty trained by two. So I guess the pee-sound works with all species!
Emma Blomqvist wow. Now that’s impressive! lol
@@ashleyfalcon125 Aaaw, thanks ;)
My female Cane Corso was exactly the same with toilet training as a puppy it took a bit longer but she got there
good
Please help! I have used the techniques to redirect my dog to follow me. My hands have blisters😞. I spend at least 15 minutes walking in one direction turning around when he pulls in front of me. Back n forth😳. I have blisters on my right hand. BTW this is an 9 month old Chow Chow. No food nor toy drive. Freedom off leash is his joy!
What kind of bone is that??
Do you have a video on resource guarding?
Not at the moment, but I’m sure it’s something I’ll discuss more as these videos progress
@@willathertoncaninetraining Can't wait!
Im at the same place with my patterdale 14 weeks old, i feel your frustration we doing this together
@Lord Jagged she much better now first few weeks were hard 👍🏻
The coming back in and then peeing 🤯🤦🏼♀️😳 it is wild 😂
RIP Mabel
Dang shes a cutie. I'm in loooove
In my limited (about 8 dogs, mainly border collies) but 30 year experience, females are much more difficult than males. Female dogs want to be a partner, male dogs are dogs. Not a rule just my experience.
She was beautiful rip little doggy
i love you
Mabel is such a good girl! She’s beautiful Will. She really is. It’s shocking how fast she’s growing! Love those thick legs! ❤️❤️❤️
Poor you...use white vinager to get rid of the smell, NOT bleach, but I guess you already know that😉
Writing from EU.. Unfortunately I can't even see the dog food you are giving.. I'm also having Cane. Little baby girl Mona.. Can you give some advice or maybe video, she is saying No to most of drain food.. :((
Once again great videos M is gorgeous :)
Just raw beef.. Fairly cheap and our Cane loves it.
@@Sinr0ne I'm little bit worried about raw meat... To don't go crazy from raw food.. At the end, i started cooking for her (beef heart, chicken necks, all that mixed with dry food..
@KXNG KXNG yes that it's OK. Just.. With all time I'm spending on work and all it is hard to find time to make and cook
@@vladimirdramicanin465 cooking meats kills the nutrients and minerals that a dog needs. They are dogs not humans. Feed raw
Are you tired mate? :)
Priceless....bitch please!!!
are you gonna get her ears croped
Will answered this over on his other channel - The Canine Show - a few weeks back. A number of reasons, but an important one is that it is illegal here in the UK.
