My 2 year old Cane Corso was just diagnosed with DCM. It’s so hard to see such young dogs have heart issues 💔
If you have not and are able, please consult a Board Certified Veterinary Cardiologist. They are the best at helping you and your pup deal with this diagnosis.

As you know, I've been watching this channel from the beginning, after my son chose to get a Cane Corso puppy (which we will finally bring home in just 11 day time). It was heartbreaking watching the videos related to Mable's passing. The thought of losing our puppy, having only spent a few hours with him at 6 weeks old and not yet even bringing him home, seems impossible to imagine. Thank you for bearing your soul in these videos. You have opened up a part of yourself which goes far beyond your technical knowledge of dogs and has given me even more confidence and peace-of-mind that the Perfect Puppy Course my son has purchased from you will be an absolutely invaluable tool, created from a place of love and compassion for dogs and not just a technical, soulless workbook. Together with my wife and our four kids, we've sat around in our living room and watched every video in preparedness to bringing our cane corso home. We're speechless and saddened. You've become a household name in our home, we thank you for everything that you do.

There a quite a few breeds that can have cardiac issues. Everything from a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to the Cane Corso, Rottweiler, Doberman and Boxer. If anyone is getting a puppy, do research to see if the breed you are getting is on the list.
If the pup is from a reputable breeder, ask if they have done health testing on the sire and dam. If they have, ask for copies of the certification.
Take your pup to your vet as soon as you get it. And ask them to screen it for any cardiac issues. Some issues can be found right away, some take time to develop. And some, sadly, can literally take a puppy while it is sleeping.
There has been some great research done and progress made in detecting heart issues in breeds that are prone to them. And there are some DNA tests being developed that will be able to be done on the parents to determine the chances of passing issues on to their puppies.
I had a Rottweiler that was found to have SAS (subaortic stenosis). Even though both parents (and multiple generations back) had tested clear. They have since discovered that just doing a heart check with a stethoscope was not enough. It is now standard to do an echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) by a board certified cardiologist to verify for sure if it is or is not present. And they are also working on DNA testing for it.
Thankfully my Rott had a mild case of SAS. And lived until 13 without any issues.
Thank you for sharing this footage, it will hopefully save someone's puppy's life.
Just as a sidenote, another sign for heartissues in dogs is a swollen belly. A struggling heart is often not able to pump the liquids out of the belly.
I didn't think this video would make me emotional again but it did. I am the guy with the 6 month old Dogo Argentino you helped me to pick! She is now 54 lbs and is turning out to be a great dog. The last video you made of Mabel really showed her symptoms and also how much bigger she got. I guess her growth spurt put too much strain on her heart. The progression makes sense now that there's a visual to go along with the explanation. Thank you. Not dwelling on the past and moving forward is the best thing to do. Dogs don't spend time thinking about the past so why should we.

Managed to get my cocker spaniel puppy very well trained because of your videos, and now, because of Mabels videos, I, and thousands of other people know what to look out for. Your loss, and your willingness to share your loss with the world, has potentially saved hundreds or thousands of other dogs and dog owners from the same thing.

I know what you mean about replacing.... I had an Alaskan Malamute for 17 years, and though she's been gone for many years, I have never been able to make myself have that same breed again. I have always been afraid of being disappointed in the dog for not being like my other one.
You’ve got to treat and love each living soul as their own being. 🥰 Who knows, they may even have some similar traits that you loved so much about your previous pet/s! 💗

My labrador retriever passed away last october. He was 13 and a half years old. That has been so heartbraking and the worst experience we had to go through. I am glad you uploaded the footage. My 14 week cane corso puppy has severe aeorTic stenosis and can pass anytime so warning signs are what I look out for because she shows no symptoms of her condition . Sorry for your loss. Praying for healing and strength

I have a cane corso x american bulldog pup that's about the same age as mabel. You're guidance has really helped us feel less overwhelmed with our mini giant who we are having so much fun with. I looked forward to Harley and mabel growing up at the same time and getting to compare they're growth and milestones and am deeply saddened by her passing. As a CC owner this actually just happened to her lil sister chihuahua, same signs but at my point heard gurgling when breathing, once out of oxygen tank she passed, wouldn't even have made drive to cardiologist. Thank u for this video, any breed owner should be wary of signs.

PDA is scary, and it's not something that you would generally know upon buying a puppy. I am so sorry you had to go through with this. I know of a GSD that had PDA surgery as a tiny puppy and did well with it, but it's not something you look for.
It must have been hard to edit this, thank you very much, it is very helpful and could potentially save a dog's life.

👍A FEW IDEAS / SUGGESTIONS: when you’re ready, think about doing live streams...they can help raise money for the new puppy (TBH the breeder should offer you another puppy for free!!!). Viewers make donations during the live streams. Other channels do it all of the time, it’s quite normal. Also live stream Q&A discussions can help people.
Review old video footage and see if there we possibly any signs or any little things that could indicate that there was a problem with her heart.
You can document / take us along with you / film your journey of choosing a breeder and another puppy. Document the process of health checks / testing etc. Wishing you the absolute best. 🤗💞🤗
Sorry to hear about your cane corso Mabel . I too have two female puppies a french mastiff and a bully kutta just three months old so I do feel the pain when you get attached to the pup as your child.
What about if the commenters donated to a charity in Mabel's name?

Since he asked us not to, we need to respect his wishes. Like he said, if we want to help, we can buy his training courses and I think because that way, he's also giving back, it is a more comfortable way to accept money, for his services. He's not comfortable with donations, and i totally get it.
However, If you mean, a charity program in Mabel's name, say for the education of genetics and to not only educate but help ppl. Id definitely support that.

I really wish that a more thorough heart exam was part of normal puppy vet visits. Imagine how many cases like this could be caught early! So sorry for your loss, but you did right by Mabel!
