Beckman's Dog Training has several videos about dog body language and talks about lip licking. He has an amazing Doberman named Prince. Both of you have gorgeous dogs! Love love Bruce and Justice ❤
I was exactly thinking of Joel Beckman when he mentioned lip licking
He has mentioned it and another trainer I've seen on TH-cam as well a couple times. But the majority of trainers never mention it or just don't realize in a situation like this that is what it means. You ever scold your dog for getting into something for example. Call them over to sit down and they start licking. That's when I noticed it a very long time ago and kinda did a deep dive into trying to find answers. Also just realize it can also mean other things. It's all about the situation and how it's being done.
Actually i have Corso and a cat (both black :P). There was a time when he was very young that he tried to play with cat having this hi puppy chaotic energy but now they are cool. Not best friends - there is a long way to that but they can coexist. The absolute maximum of their interaction is dog aproaching cat, sniffs him for a little bit and walks away minding his own buissnes.
BTW. This cat looks like he is on some serious gainers :D

I've done this with my cane corso lab with rabbits, and it's taking time but I'm seeing improvement.
I don't know about this " lip licking ", if 2 dogs are face to face,meeting,lip lick usually happens right before the attack. But,it could mean more than 1 thing i guess.
I was under the impression that 'lip licking' meant the dog was stressed

It can mean many multiple things. Just like a tail wag does not always mean the dog is happy.
Fabulous example of desensitization. Gives us some tools to work with our high energy Boxer. His trigger- he thinks he needs to meet everyone and they should love him. Turns out the older crabby folks near us are not interested, even with his cute face.

Who trained that cat tho? Also the licking of lips isn’t indicative of wanting to eat the cat but likely more a nervous tick. He knows he’s on the leash, can be corrected and it’s like being in an interrogation room for him.
For my friend to get to this point, I guess she should bring her dog to walk NEXT to her, listen to her and stopp pulling first 😅🙈🙈🙈
She has a huskey from the shelter who is already 5 years old ... big challenge ...
But she lives in Florida country where obviously people don't care if their dogs are well behaved 🙄 EVERYONE has a dog but maybe 10% actually walk them and train them ... their neighbours dogs even jump over the fence and run away from time to time... Oh and there this old man who doesn't even greet people and doesn't call his 5 dogs back when they arttack you on street 🧐🧐... (happened to me... luckywise I do have some experience with dogs and calmed them down before they bit me... But it's quite scary having 3 big dogs and 2 small ones running an barking to you as hell, while you just walk by ON THE STREET! 🙄🙄🙄)
We had to go for a pinch collar as our pup outgrew us. Huge fan of it. It will be temporary, and he behaved like a charm last walk session. I'm not a fan of the choke ones, but pinch wasn't a problem. Haven't even had to tug on it. There's another leash called a slip leash that sits higher up for better control than a regular leash and collar. That worked well also. Amazon has nice leather ones. Got tip from another Cane Corso trainer video.
The loose digs maybe carry a walking stick just in case for distance. I live in an area of off leash so I get it.
I’m sorry this does not have to do with the video you just posted but what was the name of the DNA testing that tells you everything about your dog that you did? I believe with one or both of your dogs
It funny the cat doesn’t like dogs ? Why would sit so close to your dogs?
The cat is signaling to the dogs that the gym belongs to him and he's in control. I've seen this in an barn where the barn cat basically walks along the rails on the pens and the horses and livestock believe the cat is supreme leader. I just wonder what that cat did to horses to make them scared. Maybe a good swipe across the muzzle?
Bruce is old enough to know cats are assholes 😂
