Hi guys, again I want to thank you all for the incredible messages of support. I can't believe so many people have offered to donate towards a new puppy in the future, it's a beautiful offer but something I could never accept, however, I'm incredibly grateful for that even being a consideration to those of you who have suggested it. Further proof this community is the best I've ever encountered and I'm honoured to be a part of it. You're all incredible.

Should you ..... after some time has passed and the pain has eased a bit... get a new puppy... get the puppy really good checked by a vet...
In the mean while... stay strong but allow tears... as they cleanse your soul and wash a little of the pain from your heart...❤

I feel like the breeder should step up and give you another puppy when they can. Obviously someone has to take the hit for this unfortunate outcome....but I don't think it should be you and your family. It wasn't the breeders fault....but this is an opportunity to be a "great" breeder and not just a "good" one. Just my opinion.
Glad to hear you'll keep going and that healing has begun. Sending good vibes brother...

Most breeders WILL replace your puppy, even if they die from something that is not congenital or genetic, I know we did it on a few occasions when we bred dogs, we replaced a husky puppy that was hit by a car, mailman left a gate open and the dog got out, complete accident but the owners were so devastated we just replaced the puppy

Spektacle yep, indeed. I breed RARE poultry . Many that are VERY costly. Some of my birds have very very few eggs a year. I adore dogs BUT have never bred dogs. My poultry is costly. The people who buy my poultry buy for many reasons are of value to me, NOT just on a financial level. I don’t like to talk finances but again, expensive and rare breeds, I LOVE them all. I care about my birds and the folks who buy my birds. I stand by ALL of my birds. Of course, I am understanding folks may not compare these two( I have dogs too;) Birds to dogs. I would MOST definitely give FULL refund IF a vet would determine generic issue. Even if I did NOT know of the issue!!! Period. No excuse for anything else! Will is a nice guy. Also, I hope the breeder NEVER breeds these parents again!! Ever! Not worth the risk! Feel so bad for Will! Come on breeder! Do the RIGHT thing!!! On ALL counts

I have a PDA so I can speak for what it is in humans and assume for dogs it’s very similar. PDA stands for Patent Ductus Arteriosus and it is a blood vessel which connects the pulmonary artery (deoxygenated blood) to the aorta (oxygenated blood). Everyone has it in the womb but it’s supposed to seal up either just before birth or just after, it’s purpose is to help the body circulate blood whilst the lungs aren’t being used when the baby/puppy is in the womb. PDA’s can range in size they can be very large (which I assume Mabel’s was due to how quickly she deteriorated and the heart damage you described) to incredibly small (like mine). The PDA allows oxygenated blood to flow back into the deoxygenated blood which decreases the amount of oxygen flowing to the rest of the body and means that more blood is pushed into the chambers of the heart containing deoxygenated blood than should be which means the heart has to work really hard to push the blood (obviously the size of the PDA will impact him much harder the heart has to work). PDA’s are hard to diagnose even in humans, often nothing can be heard using a stethoscope and if something is heard it just sound like a heart murmur. The symptoms include dizziness, especially when exercising and heart palpitations which dogs cannot tell us about. It can be fixed if detected early enough but it can be heard to detect.
I hope someone found this interesting.
Will, I also hope you know that there is nothing you could have done differently to help Mabel, her breeding didn’t impact it, and you couldn’t have noticed anything wrong with her. She was so happy with you and even though she was taken too soon you two have helped so many people.

This sounds...really close to home, do you think it could be mistaken for asthma? Or make asthma worse? My mother and I both have really bad asthma, painful heart palpitations, get dizzy very easily, and have a very hard time breathing, but it isn't breathing that's the issue, no matter how much we inhale it's like the oxygen doesn't help. I've actually stopped using inhalers because they didn't help me breathe any better no matter when or which kind or how often I took my routine ones, the emergency inhalers would just make my heartrate faster and make me more dizzy.
Maybe I'm totally off point here, but I've never heard of this issue before and I'm not someone to read a symptom list and go "oh I must have that", but something just clicked in my brain that made me watch this video and go to the comments to see what people knew (I didn't even check when this video was made, new watcher who just saw it), I read your comment and now I want to learn more.

breeders have different polices regarding this type of issue. Some give health guarantees for this type of defect and some cover time/age. If I were a breeder I would want my reputation for defect free dogs to be top notch! The other puppies from this litter should be tested for this!

    • @oliviaekvall4767
      @oliviaekvall4767 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @anneschmidt5815

Olivia Ekvall : This is 2020! There is the technology out there to identify the gene the perpetuates this defect? UC Davis has a first tier Animal/Veterinary School that does research in this area. There are good/bad/ok/passive/uninformed Vets out there. There are Vets that specialize; dog breeds, large animals (cows, horses, elephants, etc.), chimps, cats, etc.! I would like to hear from other breeders of this type of dog (mastiffs) and to know what they can contribute/suggest. Information is the key to it all. My grandson has a CC pup that is in his 4th month. He did not do his due diligence so he has no history on his pup, other than a picture of the sire. We are concerned and any qualified information is appreciated.

The Dash Poem (By Linda Ellis)
I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on the tombstone
    From the beginning...to the end
He noted that first came the date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years
For that dash represents all the time
That they spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved them
Know what that little line is worth
For it matters not, how much we own,
    The cars...the house...the cash.
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
.. You our friend must take a note from the poetry up above because Mables life as short as it was is filled with Joy and love 🙏🏽

Will and family, I am so very sorry for your families loss...I was very happy for you guys when you chose a Cane Corso for your next family dog... I have had the honor and pleasure of living with several different dog breads over my life time of 60 + years.. Each was unique and special in there own way. Saying good buy at the end was always a very hart wrenching experience for sure... I am not sure I will ever recover from that kind of pain again with our present 6 year old Cane Corso Contessia. This type of the Mastiff breed is truly a very special loving, loyal and connecting type of dog that has become a true family member... After you put in the first few years of work they become a guardian a protector and companion all in one... Contessia is such a huge positive impact in my retirement years for my wife and I, that a loss like your going thru would be so devastating for both of us... I hope you guys get to experience this breed again in the future... So, take care my friend and best wishes sent, El & Sue

Honestly seeing the footage would be so helpful to those of us with similar breed puppies. I have a young Boerboel and since this disease doesn’t have early symptoms, seeing what the warning signs look like could literally save another puppies life. Of course if you feel that it’s best to keep private that is understandable too. But thank you for considering giving your viewers this final gift from darling Mabel. I’m going to go kiss
My knucklehead puppy now. Thank you for that advice and perspective. Thinking of you and yours Will.

Brother, watched all your Mabel Videos. I know it's years away, but I feel you. Had to let my Rolemodel Amstaff Batista go in September, with nearly 14 years, so he had a chance to live a good live. In the end, his heart was deformed and got a heartattack, too. I am a 150kg and 1.92m Dude, too and I cried for weeks and do it right now, so NEVER say sorry because of tears, you did everything possible! Best regards from Germany, Will. Wish you and your family all the best.

I think it's a great idea to keep this channel going in Mabel's memory. IMO you should keep that traumatic video of Mabel struggling to breathe personal, you've explained what the process was called people who want to know more can do their research. Don't put yourself through that ordeal over and over. You are doing a great thing for many viewers, whether they have giant mastiffs or tiny toy dogs. I had to put my 9 year old Cane Corso down due to cancer last year. I obviously know how your feeling but I respect what your doing for the people around you. I live in the US but I would support your tour here. Good luck and God bless. Much love brother.

I recently placed a deposit for a Cane Corso which lead me to Ur sight to learn how to prepare for ownership of the Cane Corso Breed... I took a serious liking to how U presented the information needed to learn how to process managing a Cane Corso... It, truly, breaks my heart to see the previous video leading up to this one... I'm sorry for Ur loss... Mable was a good pet & beautiful as well... I would hope U don't quit Ur journey teaching the public w/ how to care & manage their pets through Ur experience... I would encourage to pick Urself up in time & get back to the process because what Ur doing is a God Sent... Ur a Blessing to all who watch... Keep the journey going & move forward in Mables Honor... I hope in time U will seek to acquire another Cane Corso to fill the void for a new experience based up recently having to put Ur other dog down as well... In any event, God Bless U for all U've done for us all & Keep It Going in time... Good Day, Mate & Stay A Blessing To Others!!!

I can so empathize for what you went through. I have had to euthanize 2 of my dogs for congestive heart failure that the vets were not able to find sooner. I do find that everyone should discuss with their vets what they need to do with their pet to be able to have a necropsy done. Especially in the event of a sudden death or unexplained death. There is a timeline that needs to be observed as well as a process of preservation of the pet. Veterinary pathologists are very dignified in their handling and care of our pets. I have just recently watched these videos and commend you on how you deal with dogs and am learning from you. I cannot afford extra costs so your videos are really a treasure for us. Again my heart goes out to you and your family. A belated condolences on your loss from Canada.

This is so sad. I lost my 9 year old dobe on Oct 12 to severe heart arrhythmia, it all happened in 4 days. It kills me every day still. I saw you were debating on what breed you were deciding on and thought I’d follow you and Mabel when you got her to help my own healing. I couldn’t do it. Brought back my own memories and made it too painful since it’s only been 3 months, now she’s gone too which makes it worse. I am so terribly sorry for your loss.

    Wow! I just watched this.
My heart just broke for you and your family. It’s so hard to lose our babies, much less in front of the public eye. I know this was 2 years ago, but please accept my heart felt condolences.
In march of this year I woke up to find my “Big Dog” (his nickname) gone right in his spot next to me on the bed. I just assumed that for some reason his heart stopped. He wasn’t I’ll, everything seemed fine and there was no commotion during the night. At least he got to go out the way we all wish we could…in our sleep.
Anyway, have a new puppy now and your videos have been SO MUCH HELP!
Thank you for all you do! ❤

I just put a deposit on a 3-week old chocolate Labrador Retriever. I have always trained my dogs myself but since it's been such a long time since I've had a puppy, I thought I'd look for any new tips on training and found your channel. I've enjoyed watching your posts and have learned a lot. THEN I saw the title of the video that Mable died. It's been 2 years since your post of her passing but my heart breaks for your loss of her. My choc lab lived 14 1/2 years. I hope you've found your new puppy. I look forward to watching more lessons and interactions. You're a talented trainer.

I only recently found your channel the canine show and watched some episodes where you discussed choosing a breeder and choosing a puppy, but haven't followed from there. When I came across the video yesterday where you said she has passed away I was heart broken, I can't imagine loosing my 9 month old springer! Take some time to heal and to process what has happened.
I still sometimes miss my rescue girl, and she was a planned PTS, finding a date a few weeks in advance that would fit everyone - me, her vet (my mom), making sure she is not on duty, but her partner, her first owner (my brother, that lives in dubai) making sure he has support and the pathologist (she had chronic erlichiosis, but we suspected cancer or autoimmune when she was alive). I also saw with friends that with their dogs that went from fine, to not feeling well, to we need to but him down in less than 24 hours, and even where it was in less than a month, it hit them hard and they are not completely over it a few years later. Where with Salt I had a few months to process the decision, you only had a phone call time, add the fact that you could not hold her hand while she is put down might add to your grieve.
Some important things now is don't blame yourself, you did the best you could do, according to some of my research the cane corso is not prone to PDA, in a study with 302 dogs 2 was cane corso and they had other heart defects. And take time, you all need to process what happened. Good luck (in afrikaans we say "sterkte" which translates to "strongs", but it looses its meaning in the translation, good luck might be the closest in meaning, but doesn't cover everything)

Here in the US breeders have a health guarantee that if a puppy dies for any kind of hereditary disease in a year or some may go longer they replace the puppy at no charge. And this is one of the reasons they charge higher prices. I pray the breeder does the rite thing and offers you a pup. So so sorry for your loss. I do understand I just lost toward the beginning of the year my male Rottweiler age 6 to spleen cancer and 3 months later his sister to bone cancer age 8. I do have a new boy he is now 8 months and 118 pounds. He was with my female for a short time. He’s a good boy and your videos have helped me so much with his training. I am so great full for you and what you do. God Bless you and your family 🙏🏼❤️

Hello Will. I am so glad to see you are doing better and I am grateful for this update. I must admit that I was so devastated by the initial news when it happened that I swore I could not follow anyone else on TH-cam with dogs because I could not take this kind of heartbreak again. Buy every time you and Mabel came to my mind I prayed for you and in doing so it also helped me. I am a Registered nurse here in the US and work specifically with newborns. I am very familiar with the condition Mabel was born with. The Ductus Arteriosus is a blood vessel that connects 2 major blood vessels in the developing baby. It diverts blood away from the lungs while the baby is in the womb but should close sometime in the first few days after birth because it is no longer needed. When it remains open beyond this time, it is called a Patent Ductus Arteriosus or PDA. If it is very small it may not produce any symptoms and may close on its own. If it is larger the babies are given medications that can help it close. If that does not work surgery is required and you are absolutely right. The body is able to compensate for it for a time but in order for the body to grow and continue to develop the condition must be treated or the heart will not be able to sustain it and will fail. it is comforting to know that Mabel received the best of care. Blessings to you, Rachel and your children as you continue on your canine journey. Thank you for sharing your hearts.

Its heartbreaking for you and think its courageous to share this painful info so that others might recognise thr PDA symptoms. My 5 month gsd was diagnosed with PDA on monday ( no symptoms but a significant heart murmur). She had an op today and thankfully is throigh it and the vein is closed off now. I would like to add to your recognise the symptoms with another thing which alerted me with my pup. If you notice on the keft side on the chest under the armpit any form of rhythmic vibration , that is quite a strong indication of a PDA. It was this which made me take ny pup to a cardiologist. Good luck with your great channel and keep strong atb vee
