@@geraldroraback5432 the key is in your response when you say “most DRUMMERS”….. Other MUSICIANS recognized his talent but in the general population if you said “Dino Danelli” the response was usually “who?” Then you’d say drummer for the Rascals or Stevie VZ and theyd say “oh yeah hes good” THAT is what underrated is-no name recognition by the fans/listeners but every legit player knows the name and reputation in the industry.
Every time I see Dino doing a DOUBLE drumstick twirl like he opens "I've been lonely too long", I'm in total awe. It takes incredible dexterity to twirl just ONE stick. Nevermind two. And yet, he never was shown dropping one or missing a beat. The Rascals were in my generation. The first great American supergroup countering the British Invasion of the '60s. You were special Dino.
I saw Dino and the Rascals in Los Angeles in 1969 at the LA Forum. They opened with "Good Lovin". And sure enough, Dino started with his unique drum stick twirling. What a showman !
Keith Moon actually copied his style. He was a pioneer of style and skill. He was the backbone of the band and the best looking guy of the group. He was hard hitting and super precise. John Densmore, Bill Kreutzman, Spencer Dryden, Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts, even Tommy Lee, none of them had the chops and the complete package like Dino Danelli. He was the foundation that the music was built upon and stands upon forever. He set the mark in 1965. That mark stands the test of time. He earned his praise.
Dino when l checked the groove of "Come on up " l was hooked. No doubt his jazz training settled the foundation of his impeccable style Thanks for inspiring me all these decades. Sorely missed R.I.P. DINO.
Got to see The Young Rascals 3 times, Montgomery, Sacramento, San Francisco. They put on a Fabulous Show. Dino was One of The Best I ever saw. Love You Dino!
I was fortunate to see him in 1966 with Dick Clark's "Where the Action Is" tour. He was even better in person than when he was on the first appearance of The Ed Sullivan Show. I saw them several times afterwards. I had just started playing drums with a garage band and he was an inspiration. The Rascals were always sincere and positive about everything they did. RIP Dino!
We were lucky enough to work with them before Atlantic signed them. He was one of the first to start using a 24-26” bass drum. They were one of the best club bands in the late 60’s. We worked with them in a small club in the city. A lot of clubs would book 2 bands for the night.
@@davanmani556 Not at all, two very different styles of playing. Dino was very technical & super clean on all his roles, where Ginger was a hard rock and roll drummer with much less mechanics, his fills & rolls were simplified, but a great drummer.
For any youngster that wants to be a drummer, get a hold of all the Rascal albums you can find and listen to Dino! He was and still is enough inspiration for anybody! A truly great drummer, may he rest in peace!
When I was a teenager I saw the Rascals more that 10 times in concert. One of the most electrifying bands that ever played. So much energy and drive and the rock solid foundation was Dino. When they were onstage in concert, outside tv show appearances and video recordings, they were at their best. And Dino would put on a drumming clinic. Nothing short of jaw dropping. Yes. In my opinion he was the best of the best.
Man, what a drummer. Always right on time, super fills, and the consummate showman. He played with such confidence and energy. He had a feel for every song. I'm an old man now...let me tell you...they don't make'm like that anymore. RIP Dino...you were the best.
Just looking at an old black and white photo of our garage band in eastern N.C. from the late 1960’s that was greatly influenced by the Rascals. Still have a worn copy of our first song list of 49 songs, 5 of which were by the Rascals: 1. Good Lovin’ 2. Lonely too Long 3.Love is a Beautiful Thing 4. A Beautiful Morning 5. Groovin’ No we never cut a record but did satisfy our #1 objective-we had fun! Thanks to Dino and the other Rascals for their inspiration. RIP Dino!
Yes, I was there also . Soul review show ,on the other side of stage. 'The Rascals' ,had a string and horn section in front of stage and a Grand Piano / whew what a Band of Talent. Not so sure of Year /Thought it was later .
Just shows you don't need twenty drums , thirty cymbals, and a gong to be the best drummer ...always overlooked when best drummers list is displayed...
Ken Murphy November 2, 2024 Awesome drum solo !!! Dino Danelli !!! Dino played ALL of the the Rascals drum tracks...no need to bring in the “studio cats” as was so prevalent at the time...and he nailed every one of them...a great accomplishment for such a young drummer...He is the one and only, Dino Danelli...often imitated, but never duplicated !!! Sadly, Dino died on 12-15-2022. Hands down one of the best drummers of the early days of Rock and Roll. The 60s variety. First time I saw him. I was blown away. RIP Dino. A true legend ..
Wow Dino can really Rock those Drums. Love The Rascals. I always wanted to play the Drums that was one of my Dreams. No one plays like Dino he Was a Artist ❤👍✊✌️🥁Rest In Peace Dino
Dino was the best rock and roll drummer I ever saw, his fills and solos were always perfectly played and perfectly placed like they belonged in the song. RIP Dino ✝️
They don't make guys like this anymore. Today you see a lot of cookie cutter drummers they all sound the friggin same. He use to hang around the Metropole Cafe in NYC and watch all the old great's Krupa etc , Cozy Cole knew he had talent and actually gave him a drum set when he had no drums .
BEST DRUMMER!!
no one could spin sticks like Dino
That's for sure,, 100percent he was the BEST ,,,, RIP Dino ,,,
Not only the most underrated rock drummer ever, but an incredible visual artist as well, inspired by Picasso. Im so sad.
So am I! 😭😥I still can't believe our Beat Boy is gone!
He definitely was Not underrated. He was considered one of the top rock drummers. Most drummers would place Dino in the top 10.

A drummer that beat the hell out of those drums, but made it appear so effortless. Rest In Peace Dino, and condolences 💐 to the family.
RIP Dino. You gave us so many wonderful memories!

I loved the way he twirled those drumsticks. Love you Dino
Saw him (them) at The Barge on Long Island in '65. He was the show. They checked us out at the next gig down Dune Rd.

Incredible drummer! Laid back yet a relentless drive and always in the pocket.
Dino was the best!
One hello of a Dynamic Drummer. Such Power and Drive. My DAD who was basically a Jazz and Rock Drummer enjoyed his style of Drumming.
Just found out that he had died.RIP to a member of a great and amazing, band!
R.I.P. Dino, What a great talented Drummer and Showman you will be sadly missed.
Looks, technique, swing, groove, taste and emotion.

HE WAS MY IDOL PLAYING SOUND AND STYLE LOVED HIM
Simply fab!!!
R.I.P. Dino. Can't believe how much he looked like McCartney it's eerie.
I wonder if Dino danelli and Paul McCartney met each other face to face. From Ms. Harper Stacey.
one of the best drummers i've ever heard playing on records. he had all the features and style

Out-frakin-standing. And he did it without ever
cracking a smile.
R.I.P. Dino Danelli !! 🙏
Dino inspired so many people he kept his drum set simple but played extraordinary!!! I am sad.
Danelli was the most exciting drummer in rock.
A true showman.

My top 5 drummers ever...buddy rich, art Blakey, Keith moon, Dino danellli & mitch Mitchell

Yeah I agree with Mike Wolf about the twirls …I love the 5 second break with no music in one song ….and he’s spinning away
Holy .. Awesome &
Thank You for Posting
Dino Danelli also played with Fotomaker and Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul.
man, ive been sleeping on the rascals. that drummer is tight AF
Yea! That was smokin baby!
Yes he was.
I’m sure Keith admired him. Thank you.

Cool drummer. I see a lot of Dino in Blondie's Clem Burke.
Cool kat.Inspiration 4 utts.
SO.. WHO WAS BETTER THAN DINO...
I see where Keith Moon got his story from.
how come no photos with the Yosemite Sam Drum kit??
I can twirl only my right hand
Twirling is showmanship, but it doesn't record well and in the grand scheme of things it isn't what makes a drummer great.
