I had the pleasure of recording Renaissance with our mobile recording studio in a hall in north London. We were producing tapes that were to be shipped to FM radio stations in the States prior to their first US tour. It was a lot of fun and afterwards Annie invited us all back to her place and she made us all supper. Good times

Wonderful memories of seeing them and following them for years. Met Annie at a TV studio show that was aired on PBS, I think I was the only girl in that audience. She was funny and so sweet. Still get goosebumps listening to her voice! Still have all my ticket stubs from the shows. Al Stewart would open for them on some of their tours…I miss those concerts. From an interview with Jon : "I spent a lot of time with Stanley Clarke and he can knock spots off me, but once we were sitting on a plane and he said to me, "I might be faster than you, but I could never be as melodic as you." I thought that was really nice and we had a wonderful time together."

@@beatlesrgear Couldn't agree more. Camp played bass like a lead guitar, and what he did required a lot of talent, I think. The late Jon Tout, the pianist in this video, was also sorely underappreciated. He was perhaps the most accomplished pianist of 70s rock, yet he never received the acclaim he deserved. Renaissance was such a talented band -- and of course the voice of Annie Haslam was perhaps the biggest marvel of them all. Those lyrics (most of them written by a putatively reclusive poet named Betty Thatcher) were not that strong, but it didn't really matter. This video takes me back to the 70s, and my love for Renaissance.

I still think that the best concert of my life was in 1975 when Renaissance opened for Caravan at the Glasgow Apollo ( now log gone) just as "Turn of the Cards" was released... Annie was on sparkling form and the band got so many curtain calls and demands for more music that Caravan were delayed getting to the stage..

Annie is certainly a legend, but very much a living legend. I only mention that because it is possible the phrase "passed into legend" night be interpreted by some to mean she has passed away. Thankfully, she is still very much with us as are Jon Camp and Terry Sullivan. There is a long interview with her from just a few weeks ago on Doug Helvering's "The Daily Doug" channel....also Jon Camp fans might be interested to learn of his recent work with guitarist Maurice Douglas. I had tickets to see Renaissance at the Beverly Theater in Beverly Hills circa 1983. My girlfriend and I were deep in the Ren. My parents dropped us off after a wonderful dinner nearby, and we arrived at the theatre, only to discover: the show was cancelled! Someone in the band had an issue with their United States visa. Instead of attending the concert of our dreams, we walked around Rodeo Drive for 3 hours until my parents picked us up as planned. (Maybe if Android phones were available back then...) Still, a major disappointment to this day. "I'm on a flight and it's taking me closer, home to a heart that's been left for so long."
Flash forward to 2021, I've been married to my college sweetheart forever, and she bears a fair resemblance to Annie Haslam. Of course, we too are both deep in the Ren.
