Unfortunately, the end of the line has come to Dino Danelli who passed away on Dec 15 at the age if 78. One of the most colorful drummers in rock history not to mention flat out great. I've never seen anyone twirl TWO drumsticks at the same time while never missing a beat. The RASCALS were in my generation. They set the American scene against the British Invasion of the '60's. Extraordinary performers. Dino was special. He will be missed.

Today is my 70th birthday and I woke up very early with the Rascals “How can I be sure” running through my head. I was about 13 ( in New York) when this came out and used to dance to it, it is such an amazingly uplifting tune which belie the lyrics. Happy memories 🎉
I saw these guys in 1966 during their tour with Dick Clark's "Where the Action Is" in West Virginia, then again in Miami Beach in 1970 when they performed for St. Jude's Children's Hospital fund raiser hosted by Danny Thomas who informed the audience that the Rascals had not only donated their pay to the fund, they paid all their own expenses. This was a class act in addition to an extremely great performance. I was in a garage band when I first saw them and progressed to playing jazz later on. Dino Danelli has always been an inspiration since I first saw him live on Ed Sullivan. The next day, I bought their album and still have it along with many more. They are in my daughter's possession because she loves them as well. Thanks for the great video and history.
Thank you for this video. I worked at Atlantic Records from 1969-1971. After 50 years, I can't believe it, I still remember Felix, Gene, Dino and Eddie. Especially, Eddie. He was my first love. I still love him after all these years. I adored him. We spent a few times together. I don't think he ever realized how smitten I was with him. I was young and so naive. I didn't want to be considered just another notch in his belt. So, I held back and lost him. I regret not trusting him and wonder what would have been. Sid Bernstein was a wonderful, kind man. Always had time to talk. Andrian Barbeau, Al Bonetta, Ahmet Ertegun, CB, I remember you all. Especially, especially, Eddie.
The Young Rascals were the first concert that I ever attended think it was 1966 . Dino Danelli blew me away . I became a drummer because of him instead of Ringo like most kids during that era .
I saw them as an 11 year old in a Tucson ballpark 1966.. I’m 67 now.. I STILL listen to their music.. Good stuff Maynard 😎(Buffalo Springfield played too)

My Dad is a huge Rascals fan. Learning to play drums Dino was his man. I remember him speaking of Leslie Wests Vagrants. My Dad played drums for a group called The Brats with Ira Newborn. I’ve heard stories of when they use to rehearse across the road from The Hassles and each band would go listen to eachother on their breaks. To this day my Dad still has the towel Dino used to wipe his hands that was tied to his floor Tom. He threw it to him after a show at The Barge. I really wish I could go back in time and witness all of it.
@@ericg4632 There was a drum stick factory, think it was called Capella Wood. I bought a couple of boxes of drum sticks, had them custom made between a 5 a and 5 b in diameter. They were compressed wood, back around 1976. I'm still using those sticks with nylon tips. Capella Wood had some sticks stamped with Dino Danelli's name, so I bought all they had, and still have those too. I used to practice playing to the Rascals music. IF you watch Ringo's all star band, they did an attempt at a couple Rascals songs, Felix playing keyboard. Ringo and another drummer, plus a sax player playing congas. Between the three of them (on youtube), they missed the Conga parts Dino played in Grovin, and didn't do so well either on "Got to Be Free". IF you're going to do Rascals songs, at least listen to them before you play them.
I love the Rascals and I grew up with their blues/jazz/mix. I used to play in a trio and we did People everywhere and one you didn't mention Love Letter and some other obscure tunes. Everyone we played for seemed to get into it all. Thanks for this update.
I saw Felix C. when he was touring with Ringo Starr and his All Star Band. Felix still sounded great. Thank goodness for these tours. I got to see one of the Beatles and one of the Rascals at the same time. I have so many favorite Rascal songs. I even have a compilation of their greatest hits❣️Thank you for sharing this video with us. ❤️🙏🏻
I still have all their vinyl albums which I bought new at the time of release. My daughter has possession of them with orders to take as good care of them as I did, and not to ever sell or lose them.
Great video! I got to see them in 2013 when they were Felix Caviliere's Rascals. Basically it was him and a bunch of younger guys. But Felix really brought the house down. After the show I got to meet Felix and he was very down-to-earth and talkative. Because of the venue's policy with photography, he didn't want a selfie. Still, it was thrilling to shake his hand. Keep it up, WHTT!
My sister and I went weekly to every teen night at The Barge where the Rascals played for the summer of, I'm guessing, 1966. Was wonderful to see them get famous! Good memories.
I was hitch-hiking in 1967 and it got so cold and there were so few rides that we tried to sleep in the lemon grove nearby, but it was too cold. So, we tried to hitch-hike in the wee hours of the morning and were passed by every car but one. He was a Rascals fan and he knew we were, too. We talked about the Rascals until he dropped us off.

My teacher friend in high school told me there was No Road like there was during the Beatnik era. I made him wrong the very next year. I learned so much from hitch-hiking that I can''t say enough for safe hitch-hiking. But, crazies used it for their perpetual terror campaign and they managed to ruin it in just a few years. I used to hitch-hike to work every day and always got to work on time! Now, no one hitch-hikes because it is not safe anymore. We are much poorer for it. When hitch-hiking is safe, progress is being made.
@@rineric3214I used to hitchhike all the time in the early ‘70s in Western New York. There were a few crazies and I was given a ride by a few but they weren’t violent, just weird. I picked up hitchhikers once I got my drivers license. Only one was potentially violent. I stopped the car and told him to get out. No matter how safe it may be, all it takes is one bad ride. Also if the driver with a stolen car picks you up and is stopped by the police, both you and him will be charged with the crime.
In 1966 The Rascals were playing at a large bar called Frivolas in Smithtown NY. I don't recall a stage just a large room with a big bar at one end. I got stuck between the bar and the band who was set up on the floor. They took their break left their instruments in place and he crowd scattered. I went and stood right next to Dinelli's drum set and waited for them to come.back. I stood there right next to him for all of the second act. He was quite a hard hitter and one of the best of the best of that time.
Eddie and I went to school together...Garfield High School, Garfield New Jersey. His locker was one away from mine all through HS. He ended up moving across the street from me in the late 60's. We were casual friends. My sister dated his brother David, whom we are still in touch with through phone conversations every few months. I haven't seen or heard from Eddie for years...would love to touch base again.
I knew Rudy. So handsome! He was in the group the Hi-Fives with Dave, Ron Menhart and Howie Lanza. They formed, on the fly and performed for us at a Garfield High Assembly, back in 1956. The kids were floored, they were so good! Dave had (has) a great voice. He was, back then and still is a rascal. 😆. Eddie? Back when Dave and had a casual,”summer thing,” Eddie was a boisterous kid, running around the school yard, driving us teens crazy…lol! Precious memories of my youth.❤
1967 US Navy, Key West, Florida. My best buddy Mac and I bought a leaky boat, repaired it, and spent many a Sunday taking girls for boat rides around the island. Beautiful girls, beautiful memories. Every time I hear Groovin Im transported back in time . Mac and I both volunteered for WestPac duty multiple times, but were trapped in the Atlantic Fleet because everybody wanted WestPac duty. To this day, playing Its a Beautiful Morning brings wistful tears of smiles remembering those who have enriched my life journey and helped me along the way. Yesterday is a sweet memory, tomorrow is an exciting mystery, but today is God's precious gift, thats why it is called The Present. Peace and Love. May your dreams come true.
My favorite memory, 1967, when I was 17 & heard "Groovin'" for the first time. I was 17 yrs old & in love for the first time with Bill Bentley. My father made sure that I stayed innocent & sent my sister & I to go live with my mother way across the country! Lol! He followed! But I was a Daddy's girl & didn't date him. Biggest regrete of my life! "Groovin'" will always remind me of my first & only true love so many years ago.❤️
I've been watching your channel for about a year now and have to say that the narration has become more relaxed and much better. I also notice that as you tell the story of the group the photos now match the narrative closely in terms of age. It used to be more haphazard - an older age photo early on, a young photo near the end, so again a great improvement. Keep them coming.

I saw and met Felix, I saw him a few times, a small show with most of the rascals, I think in the 90s, he preformed with Billy. Joel In Hartford CT and he said hello to my wife in the parking lot, we both had driven to the show. I went into a tractor shop and Felix was there, a very nice person
Very good and cool drummer of the day. I got a chance to sit in an RV backstage and meet Dino and Gene Cornish after a performance in Watertown, WI in the late 90's. We talked music and some of the cool experiences they had. They were super nice guys. They both then autographed a pic I provided.
I would love to hear the original band put a couple of new songs together. We really need a TV show that features members from these great groups, somebody who knows music and recording, where we could hear the more technical side of things. Producer Tom Dowd was outstanding. There's a great documentary on Dowd that aired on cable TV. Unfortunately, that documentary never mentioned Dowd's involvement with the Rascals. However, you will see Dowd's name on several Rascals albums. Adrian Barber was their studio bass player. Back about 1973, I asked information in New York for Adrain's phone number. It was listed, so I called him. I just told him how I liked his bass playing, and he was very nice on the phone, and probably never had anyone call him out of the clear blue.
@@kathiec1333 Thanks for the tip Kathy. I have not heard Dino's interviews with Liberty Devito, but I just noticed while replying to you, that youtube has posted the #2 interview. I will watch that. I know a guitar player who knew Felix, and Felix asked him if he was interested in playing for him, before Gene Cornish came along. He has the identical NY accent as Felix, and came to Miami from that area. I have a few drum sticks that have Dino's stamp on them. They were sold in music stores. I got them directly from the manufacturer in New Jersey, called "Capella Wood". They had a lot of "end runs" lying around, so I bought quite an assortment of drum sticks at the time.
@@kathiec1333 Just thought of this, back in about 74' I noticed the bass player for the Rascals listed on a couple of their albums, Adrian Barber. They even have a song on the Freedom Suite album called "Adrian's Birthday". I thought it would be interesting to talk to him, so I asked someone where the Rascals lived in New York, (can't remember exactly what city, it's been so long) so I called information in that area and asked for the number for Adrian Barber. His number was listed. I called him in the afternoon, and we talked for several minutes. He was polite and soft spoken. I told him I liked the Rascals, liked his bass playing, etc. That was when a long distance call was quite expensive, and where I lived, I had to pay for every long distance call I made.
I remember Eddy from when we were students at Garfield High School, In New Jersey. Eddy lived above Pinto's Pool Parlor, which was on Monroe Street, just a few blocks away from where I lived on Midland Avenue! My best friend Richie and I would on occasion, hang out at a Park called the Pump House, where there was a small lake and we would go fishing. Eddy would sometimes join us and these are the few times we hung out with Eddy. He would tell us about his Brother David who was with a band and was a singer. I joined the Army in 1962, after graduation and I lost touch with everyone for three years. After I came home in 1965, I discovered that Eddy was with a Rock & Roll Group and was playing at the Peppermint Lounge in NYC, so my Girl Friend went to see him performing and He sat at our table during a break, then after we went back stage to meet the band. It was a great night and a great memory! He was a Rock & Roll Hero of Garfield NJ!
My parents (separately...they were not a couple then) - from Lodi - saw The Rascals at the Choo Choo Club in Garfield numerous times in the 60's. They knew Eddie...she lost them over the years, but Eddie once brought Mom beads from when he went to Hawaii back then (inspiring their song "My Hawaii").
Gene and Dino formed Bulldog not Bullfrog and also Fotomaker after the Rascals split up. Saw The Young Rascals at The Phone Booth Lounge in NYC when they were still wearing knickers. Thought they were the coolest. Got my photo taken with Dino and Felix. I was a fan since the first time seeing them perform on Hullabaloo. I think they messed up by changing musical direction away from rock and r&b. Just my opinion. Favorite Rascals' tunes include I Ain't Gonna Eat Out my Heart Anymore, A Girl Like You, Too Many Fish in the Sea, Singing the Blues Too Long and Hold On among others. Never really cared for Good Lovin', Groovin' or It's a Beautiful Morning. Only a Lonely Heart Sees was a great Felix solo record. Saw them in Anaheim for their 1988 reunion tour (minus Eddie). Ended up with a pair of Dino's sticks thanks to a friend who was working security that night at The Celebrity Theater.
Their songs have been in the soundtrack of my mind since I was born. I could be anywhere and when I hear one of their songs in a store etc...my mood instantly changes. That's talent. 😂

The Library and Archives Canada (in Ottawa) has a large trove of recorded and print documentation of the Rascals, due to Gene Cornish (born in Canada) having been in the group.
Had the pleasure of seeing/hearing the "Once Upon a Dream" tour at the Orpheum in Phoenix circa 2013. Outstanding multi-media event. The vocals were still there and the band was tight. My favorite "blue-eyed soul group" ever.

I had somehow gotten into the Beatles press conference in 1966 and sat next to Felix Cavaliere who was so sweet to me. I was 16 and he talked me into behaving. He was so very nice to me that I’ve never forgotten that.
It was the summer of 1969; still in uniform I began driving my 1964 Chevy super sport from North fork Naval Air base in Virginia to my home in Hopedale Massachusetts. The Marine Corps had offered me a six month early out off my enlistment which I jumped on with no hesitation. Once I got on I-95 North I turned on the radio and the song that came on was, Beautiful Morning by the Rascals. I thought, how appropriate. As you can see, I have never forgot that Beautiful Morning.
I have been catching up with these guys on tube. Most of their hits came out when I was under five years old. Still hearing their music again I didn't realize how many hits they had. one of my favorites is how can I be sure. Love the music

They are not all well. Dino Danelli suffers from dementia and is unable to perform. Gene Cornish's health is fragile at best, but he still plans to tour with Cavaliere at some point soon. Eddie Brigati is retired and living in northern NJ, and his brother David, is also retired and living in NJ.
Yes, I'd heard that Dino is in some sort of "long term" hospital and that Gene needed heart surgery at one point. In an interview, Felix said that Gene's participation in their upcoming shows would depend on "what he can do." Thanks again.
My favorite song of Cavallieri’s is “How Can I Be Sure”, fantastic composition, superb singing. It was a revelation when it came on the radio, sounding like nothing else.
I lived pretty close to the lead singer, Felix Cavalieri, in Pelham, NY. there was lots of buzz as the Rascals were beginning their journey and hadn't released anything. And then, it all happened pretty fast." I Ain't Go'in to Eat Out My Heart Anymore" and "Good Lovin" transformed them and everyone near them. As a kid I wondered what it would have been like to swap places with Felix or Eddie Brigatti. In the end, I'm glad I never did. Life has many surprises and instant success can have more pitfalls than a life built one step at a time. I'm thankful to have earned things slowly, using passion, hard work and intelligence.
The first time I saw the Young Rascals with the knee high pants, I liked the energy of I ain't Gonna Eat Out my Heart anymore. I dug them. When Groovin' came out, it was all over because it was fire. Along with It's a Beautiful Morning. OMG! I will always love them.
I have serval favorite Rascal's songs, but I must say my top favorite gotta be "People got to be free". That song as a very strong message, and the groove is so driven. Towards the end of this song the line, " See that train over there, that's the train of freedom; look out now, it's long overdue, it's about to come on through." That lyric for me was huge; and it was so fitting. This song should have the whole room up and groovin'. The Rascals was a big part of the soul music scene in the 60's. I can still hear The Rascals on XM Soul Town.

I was a fan. The first concert I ever attended was to see the Rascals in 1968 at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. I had just been stationed there that year (USAF). I think the opening act was either the Four Letterman or the Four Freshman, don’t recall.
I saw them in Hawaii back when they first came out. He could toss the drumsticks in the air and catch them on beat. Amazing. They were great. Their music and vocals. Music style was very musical. Good lovin. What you know about love........My little cover band was playing Young Rascals. I always wondered why I didn't hear about them in later years. They were really good.
This is wrong. David brigati sang with Joey Dee, they met because they lived near one another . Eddie brigati was David’s younger brother, that’s how Eddie got involved. Later they met Felix through Joey, Felix may have known gene at university of Syracuse. Dino was already known by Joey Dee and the brigati brothers. At some point they got together to form the young rascals and then later the rascals. I know all this because my mother grew up with Joey Dee and met the brigati brothers at a club Joey played at in Garfield New Jersey. The rascals debuted there before they were famous.
Saw The Rascals and The Vagrants play on the same stage at The Action House. Those two bands created magic that night. Long Island was loaded back in 68 with great bands like The Hassles, The Illusion, The Rainy Days. The Rascals where hit makers. The Vagrants were in a league all their own.
I saw the Rascals, in July of 67, in Central Park at the Wollman Ice Rink, for the Shaefer Beer festival. They had a 7PM and a 9PM show. we were at the early show. The opening act was a black folk singer named Len Chandler, the Rascals often had black acts open for them. The show was great, so my older brother said lets hide in the bathroom and watch the second show, so we did. The opening act for the second show, was announced as a band from England. This black guy with crazy hair and two pale English guys known as the Jimi Hendrix Experience came on the stage. The audience gave a WTF is this welcome, and was not ready for Hendrix, after a few minutes my brother said lets go, well I can saw I saw him.
They turned into a band in the 2000's from Liverpool. Fronted by The Last Shadow Puppets Miles Kane. Never knew there was a band from the 60's with the same music.
First saw The Rascals at The Barge,L.I in '64.My sister Nancy Peers(The Reasons,UA)dated Felix until '66 or so.I last saw them at Criteria Recording,Miami in '69..Great group,great time for little brother
It must have been in the '88 tour when i saw the Rascals at The Guthrie in Minneapolis. They had Leland Sklar on lead guitar. Gene was smacking his harmonica on the bridge of his guitar.
I guess Leland stole the show with his dance moves . Sometimes I wonder if there is any great American band that Leland did not tour with - a true musicians' musician. There are some good videos on the site where he and Russ Kunkel talk about the early days and the songs they played on.

Between the three of them (on youtube), they missed the Conga parts Dino played in Grovin, and didn't do so well either on "Got to Be Free". IF you're going to do Rascals songs, at least listen to them before you play them.

I love the Rascals and I grew up with their blues/jazz/mix. I used to play in a trio and we did People everywhere and one you didn't mention Love Letter and some other obscure tunes. Everyone we played for seemed to get into it all. Thanks for this update.

I saw Felix C. when he was touring with Ringo Starr and his All Star Band. Felix still sounded great. Thank goodness for these tours. I got to see one of the Beatles and one of the Rascals at the same time. I have so many favorite Rascal songs. I even have a compilation of their greatest hits❣️Thank you for sharing this video with us. ❤️🙏🏻
I still have all their vinyl albums which I bought new at the time of release. My daughter has possession of them with orders to take as good care of them as I did, and not to ever sell or lose them.
Great video! I got to see them in 2013 when they were Felix Caviliere's Rascals. Basically it was him and a bunch of younger guys. But Felix really brought the house down. After the show I got to meet Felix and he was very down-to-earth and talkative. Because of the venue's policy with photography, he didn't want a selfie. Still, it was thrilling to shake his hand. Keep it up, WHTT!

My sister and I went weekly to every teen night at The Barge where the Rascals played for the summer of, I'm guessing, 1966. Was wonderful to see them get famous! Good memories.
I was hitch-hiking in 1967 and it got so cold and there were so few rides that we tried to sleep in the lemon grove nearby, but it was too cold. So, we tried to hitch-hike in the wee hours of the morning and were passed by every car but one. He was a Rascals fan and he knew we were, too. We talked about the Rascals until he dropped us off.

My teacher friend in high school told me there was No Road like there was during the Beatnik era. I made him wrong the very next year. I learned so much from hitch-hiking that I can''t say enough for safe hitch-hiking. But, crazies used it for their perpetual terror campaign and they managed to ruin it in just a few years. I used to hitch-hike to work every day and always got to work on time! Now, no one hitch-hikes because it is not safe anymore. We are much poorer for it. When hitch-hiking is safe, progress is being made.

@@rineric3214I used to hitchhike all the time in the early ‘70s in Western New York. There were a few crazies and I was given a ride by a few but they weren’t violent, just weird.
I picked up hitchhikers once I got my drivers license. Only one was potentially violent. I stopped the car and told him to get out. No matter how safe it may be, all it takes is one bad ride. Also if the driver with a stolen car picks you up and is stopped by the police, both you and him will be charged with the crime.
In 1966 The Rascals were playing at a large bar called Frivolas in Smithtown NY. I don't recall a stage just a large room with a big bar at one end. I got stuck between the bar and the band who was set up on the floor. They took their break left their instruments in place and he crowd scattered. I went and stood right next to Dinelli's drum set and waited for them to come.back. I stood there right next to him for all of the second act. He was quite a hard hitter and one of the best of the best of that time.
Eddie and I went to school together...Garfield High School, Garfield New Jersey. His locker was one away from mine all through HS. He ended up moving across the street from me in the late 60's. We were casual friends. My sister dated his brother David, whom we are still in touch with through phone conversations every few months. I haven't seen or heard from Eddie for years...would love to touch base again.

I knew Rudy. So handsome! He was in the group the Hi-Fives with Dave, Ron Menhart and Howie Lanza. They formed, on the fly and performed for us at a Garfield High Assembly, back in 1956. The kids were floored, they were so good! Dave had (has) a great voice. He was, back then and still is a rascal. 😆. Eddie? Back when Dave and had a casual,”summer thing,” Eddie was a boisterous kid, running around the school yard, driving us teens crazy…lol! Precious memories of my youth.❤
1967 US Navy, Key West, Florida. My best buddy Mac and I bought a leaky boat, repaired it, and spent many a Sunday taking girls for boat rides around the island. Beautiful girls, beautiful memories. Every time I hear Groovin Im transported back in time . Mac and I both volunteered for WestPac duty multiple times, but were trapped in the Atlantic Fleet because everybody wanted WestPac duty. To this day, playing Its a Beautiful Morning brings wistful tears of smiles remembering those who have enriched my life journey and helped me along the way. Yesterday is a sweet memory, tomorrow is an exciting mystery, but today is God's precious gift, thats why it is called The Present. Peace and Love. May your dreams come true.
My favorite memory, 1967, when I was 17 & heard "Groovin'" for the first time. I was 17 yrs old & in love for the first time with Bill Bentley. My father made sure that I stayed innocent & sent my sister & I to go live with my mother way across the country! Lol! He followed! But I was a Daddy's girl & didn't date him. Biggest regrete of my life! "Groovin'" will always remind me of my first & only true love so many years ago.❤️
I've been watching your channel for about a year now and have to say that the narration has become more relaxed and much better. I also notice that as you tell the story of the group the photos now match the narrative closely in terms of age. It used to be more haphazard - an older age photo early on, a young photo near the end, so again a great improvement. Keep them coming.

I saw and met Felix, I saw him a few times, a small show with most of the rascals, I think in the 90s, he preformed with Billy. Joel In Hartford CT and he said hello to my wife in the parking lot, we both had driven to the show. I went into a tractor shop and Felix was there, a very nice person
Very good and cool drummer of the day. I got a chance to sit in an RV backstage and meet Dino and Gene Cornish after a performance in Watertown, WI in the late 90's. We talked music and some of the cool experiences they had. They were super nice guys. They both then autographed a pic I provided.
I would love to hear the original band put a couple of new songs together. We really need a TV show that features members from these great groups, somebody who knows music and recording, where we could hear the more technical side of things. Producer Tom Dowd was outstanding. There's a great documentary on Dowd that aired on cable TV. Unfortunately, that documentary never mentioned Dowd's involvement with the Rascals. However, you will see Dowd's name on several Rascals albums. Adrian Barber was their studio bass player. Back about 1973, I asked information in New York for Adrain's phone number. It was listed, so I called him. I just told him how I liked his bass playing, and he was very nice on the phone, and probably never had anyone call him out of the clear blue.

I know a guitar player who knew Felix, and Felix asked him if he was interested in playing for him, before Gene Cornish came along. He has the identical NY accent as Felix, and came to Miami from that area. I have a few drum sticks that have Dino's stamp on them. They were sold in music stores. I got them directly from the manufacturer in New Jersey, called "Capella Wood". They had a lot of "end runs" lying around, so I bought quite an assortment of drum sticks at the time.

@@kathiec1333 Just thought of this, back in about 74' I noticed the bass player for the Rascals listed on a couple of their albums, Adrian Barber. They even have a song on the Freedom Suite album called "Adrian's Birthday". I thought it would be interesting to talk to him, so I asked someone where the Rascals lived in New York, (can't remember exactly what city, it's been so long) so I called information in that area and asked for the number for Adrian Barber. His number was listed. I called him in the afternoon, and we talked for several minutes. He was polite and soft spoken. I told him I liked the Rascals, liked his bass playing, etc. That was when a long distance call was quite expensive, and where I lived, I had to pay for every long distance call I made.

I remember Eddy from when we were students at Garfield High School, In New Jersey. Eddy lived above Pinto's Pool Parlor, which was on Monroe Street, just a few blocks away from where I lived on Midland Avenue! My best friend Richie and I would on occasion, hang out at a Park called the Pump House, where there was a small lake and we would go fishing. Eddy would sometimes join us and these are the few times we hung out with Eddy. He would tell us about his Brother David who was with a band and was a singer. I joined the Army in 1962, after graduation and I lost touch with everyone for three years. After I came home in 1965, I discovered that Eddy was with a Rock & Roll Group and was playing at the Peppermint Lounge in NYC, so my Girl Friend went to see him performing and He sat at our table during a break, then after we went back stage to meet the band. It was a great night and a great memory! He was a Rock & Roll Hero of Garfield NJ!

My parents (separately...they were not a couple then) - from Lodi - saw The Rascals at the Choo Choo Club in Garfield numerous times in the 60's. They knew Eddie...she lost them over the years, but Eddie once brought Mom beads from when he went to Hawaii back then (inspiring their song "My Hawaii").
My dad used to play their albums band in the 70's when I was a little kid.
I absolutely wore out The Rascals Greatest Hits album. Wonderful record.

Got my photo taken with Dino and Felix. I was a fan since the first time seeing them perform on Hullabaloo. I think they messed up by changing musical direction away from rock and r&b.
Just my opinion.
Favorite Rascals' tunes include I Ain't Gonna Eat Out my Heart Anymore, A Girl Like You, Too Many Fish in the Sea, Singing the Blues Too Long and Hold On among others. Never really cared for Good Lovin', Groovin' or It's a Beautiful Morning.
Only a Lonely Heart Sees was a great Felix solo record.
Saw them in Anaheim for their 1988 reunion tour (minus Eddie).
Ended up with a pair of Dino's sticks thanks to a friend who was working security that night at The Celebrity Theater.
Their songs have been in the soundtrack of my mind since I was born. I could be anywhere and when I hear one of their songs in a store etc...my mood instantly changes. That's talent. 😂

The Library and Archives Canada (in Ottawa) has a large trove of recorded and print documentation of the Rascals, due to Gene Cornish (born in Canada) having been in the group.

Outstanding multi-media event. The vocals were still there and the band was tight. My favorite "blue-eyed soul group" ever.

I had somehow gotten into the Beatles press conference in 1966 and sat next to Felix Cavaliere who was so sweet to me. I was 16 and he talked me into behaving. He was so very nice to me that I’ve never forgotten that.

It was the summer of 1969; still in uniform I began driving my 1964 Chevy super sport from North fork Naval Air base in Virginia to my home in Hopedale Massachusetts. The Marine Corps had offered me a six month early out off my enlistment which I jumped on with no hesitation. Once I got on I-95 North I turned on the radio and the song that came on was, Beautiful Morning by the Rascals. I thought, how appropriate. As you can see, I have never forgot that Beautiful Morning.
The albums Felix did on his own were very good.

I got to catch a couple of their shows at Disneyland in the late '60s. Still one of my favorite all-time bands. Dino Danelli was a major influence on me as an aspiring young drummer. Sad he is no longer with us.
They are not all well. Dino Danelli suffers from dementia and is unable to perform. Gene Cornish's health is fragile at best, but he still plans to tour with Cavaliere at some point soon. Eddie Brigati is retired and living in northern NJ, and his brother David, is also retired and living in NJ.
Yes, I'd heard that Dino is in some sort of "long term" hospital and that Gene needed heart surgery at one point. In an interview, Felix said that Gene's participation in their upcoming shows would depend on "what he can do." Thanks again.

My favorite song of Cavallieri’s is “How Can I Be Sure”, fantastic composition, superb singing. It was a revelation when it came on the radio, sounding like nothing else.
I lived pretty close to the lead singer, Felix Cavalieri, in Pelham, NY. there was lots of buzz as the Rascals were beginning their journey and hadn't released anything. And then, it all happened pretty fast." I Ain't Go'in to Eat Out My Heart Anymore" and "Good Lovin" transformed them and everyone near them. As a kid I wondered what it would have been like to swap places with Felix or Eddie Brigatti. In the end, I'm glad I never did. Life has many surprises and instant success can have more pitfalls than a life built one step at a time. I'm thankful to have earned things slowly, using passion, hard work and intelligence.

The first time I saw the Young Rascals with the knee high pants, I liked the energy of I ain't Gonna Eat Out my Heart anymore. I dug them. When Groovin' came out, it was all over because it was fire. Along with It's a Beautiful Morning. OMG! I will always love them.

I have serval favorite Rascal's songs, but I must say my top favorite gotta be "People got to be free". That song as a very strong message, and the groove is so driven. Towards the end of this song the line, " See that train over there, that's the train of freedom; look out now, it's long overdue, it's about to come on through." That lyric for me was huge; and it was so fitting. This song should have the whole room up and groovin'. The Rascals was a big part of the soul music scene in the 60's. I can still hear The Rascals on XM Soul Town.

Groovin' is the all time classic but I liked What Is the Reason as well.
What Is the Reason was a huge cover hit for The Delcounts.
I remember seeing them perform on THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW. DIno was absolutely incredible. He played like a human drum machine while twirling his drum sticks between beats, missing not a single note.

I was a fan. The first concert I ever attended was to see the Rascals in 1968 at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. I had just been stationed there that year (USAF). I think the opening act was either the Four Letterman or the Four Freshman, don’t recall.
I thought the young rascals were always proven to be dauntingly influential.
I saw them in Hawaii back when they first came out. He could toss the drumsticks in the air and catch them on beat. Amazing. They were great. Their music and vocals. Music style was very musical. Good lovin. What you know about love........My little cover band was playing Young Rascals. I always wondered why I didn't hear about them in later years. They were really good.

This is wrong. David brigati sang with Joey Dee, they met because they lived near one another . Eddie brigati was David’s younger brother, that’s how Eddie got involved. Later they met Felix through Joey, Felix may have known gene at university of Syracuse. Dino was already known by Joey Dee and the brigati brothers. At some point they got together to form the young rascals and then later the rascals. I know all this because my mother grew up with Joey Dee and met the brigati brothers at a club Joey played at in Garfield New Jersey. The rascals debuted there before they were famous.

Saw The Rascals and The Vagrants play on the same stage at The Action House. Those two bands created magic that night. Long Island was loaded back in 68 with great bands like The Hassles, The Illusion, The Rainy Days. The Rascals where hit makers. The Vagrants were in a league all their own.
The Vagrants turned into Leslie West & Mountain.(Mississippi Queen)

I saw the Rascals, in July of 67, in Central Park at the Wollman Ice Rink, for the Shaefer Beer festival. They had a 7PM and a 9PM show. we were at the early show. The opening act was a black folk singer named Len Chandler, the Rascals often had black acts open for them. The show was great, so my older brother said lets hide in the bathroom and watch the second show, so we did. The opening act for the second show, was announced as a band from England. This black guy with crazy hair and two pale English guys known as the Jimi Hendrix Experience came on the stage. The audience gave a WTF is this welcome, and was not ready for Hendrix, after a few minutes my brother said lets go, well I can saw I saw him.

It must have been in the '88 tour when i saw the Rascals at The Guthrie in Minneapolis. They had Leland Sklar on lead guitar. Gene was smacking his harmonica on the bridge of his guitar.
I guess Leland stole the show with his dance moves . Sometimes I wonder if there is any great American band that Leland did not tour with - a true musicians' musician. There are some good videos on the site where he and Russ Kunkel talk about the early days and the songs they played on.
