Since the mid sixties, I've played in bands, and often did Rascals' material. Those songs NEVER failed to get people out on the dance floor and having a great time. Thanks Gene, and Eddie, Dino, and Felix. I STILL love you guys.

He was the first live guitarist that I ever saw, about 1963. I’ve seen a lot since then but he lives in my memory like few others.

I am glad that the rascals got back together, as a young kid I would sit there wide eyed watching Gene Cornish playing his guitar and dreaming of some day playing those songs in a band myself. Thank you Gene for everything

Gene is just a great, tasteful, guitarist! I love every performance! I always enjoy listening to the Rascals. I’ve seen them live only three times. I would have seen them more if I didn’t end up in the Army from 1966-68 and then end up in California.

The Rascals were a truly great America Rock Band. The didn't use "the Wrecking Crew" to play the music on their records. They played it themselves. They were the real deal.

Gene: I got to meet your Mom & Dad way back in the late 50’s at my Aunt & Uncles house in Hay Bay Ontario(south of Napanee)and I remember them telling me their son played in a band called the “Young Rascals!” Lots of memories from those days as I was just a young lad, still with my parents. All 4 have passed on( my Aunt & Uncle & my Mom & Dad!) Best of luck to you!

When Van Zandt listed all the Rascals hits I realized I had forgotten just how BIG they were - giant hits every year, twice a year, some of the biggest songs of my youth were Rascals hits. And sadly they just disappeared in the in between years.

I saw the Rascals many times in NY in the 60's and 3 times on the 2013 great Once Upon a Dream tour, one of the greatest bands ever! Hope you are recovering well after your heart attack Gene, peace to you and be well, much love always!

Thank you for your music, Gene! Cool interview… Love that new guitar! I can still remember me and my sister, along with our mom and dad, cruising around in our ‘67 27-window red/white Volkswagen bus, listening to “time/peace” on the eight track!

I remember being rocked out by that little lick off the break as a freaking kid when I'd hear the song on the radio. I'd even wait for it and then play along with my air guitar. Thanks Gene!
I saw Once Upon a Dream not once, but twice in when they came to Philadelphia. The group sounded impeccable. What a thrill!

What a great band. Fantastic innovators. The legendary Rascals were crushing it with one huge hit after another in the mid 60s. One of the first pillars of progressive pop rock, they opened the doors into the mainstream for scores of American and English Bands to follow. Still love their music which has withstood the test of time..

Gene you were such an insiration to me.. To this day I use , what I call a "sliding cords" I used it on some of my original songs..it gives it that special flavor every time. Thank you Gene you enhanced my music.

Are you guys for real? The man is a legend! He’s a member of what might be THE finest band to ever come out of New York. Anybody who knows Gene knows he’s a straightforward and honest guy. He’s being honest with you when he tells you that he likes the TV show The View and you’re making a big deal out of it? You’re invalidating this legendary rock ‘n’ roll guitarist who’s paid his dues 10 times over because of a TV show he likes? Grow up!

I met a guy in a NYC dance club in the mid-late ‘60s. He introduced himself as Gene and we danced. He told me he was a guitarist for a band, the Rascals. I didn’t believe him. Maybe it was the real Gene Cornish, I’ll never know.

Gene sang a ballad on one of the recordings where he was backed by a nice string orchestra arrangement instead of the band. At least I think it was Gene. It was some ballad about love. I’m always trying to find this cut.

That's the way I would want to see The Rascal's, with all of the original members. The added bass guitar is also nice since the Hammond bass always seemed not loud enough for the live performances. Plus "A Girl Like You" and "Lonely To Long" definitely had a bass guitar on the studio recordings. I saw Felix with a bunch of other musicians in the 80's without Gene and don't believe with any of the other original members. It wasn't the same. The guitar player used heavy distortion. If I go to see The Rascals, I want to hear The Rascals sound. That would include a sound man that knows how to mic a Leslie cabinet (The Hammond at that concert sounded week and thin). I want to see Gene Cornish playing his Barney Kessel, because I loved the sound of that guitar. Plus Dino and Eddie.

Rascals fans should check out his new book.....just received my copy today. Looks like a good read.....pretty thick....probably take me about 2 weeks to get through it. No good, clear high quality photos from the band's beginning which is a bit of a letdown.
I wonder whatever became of Gene's old Gibsons.
