They were meant to be HEAVILY customizable trading ships which is why we see a couple of cannon variants that all have that core axis but wildly different module placement. The idea of a "Heavy Hauler" variant compared to the Falcon's stripped down speed focused build feels so natural. well done!
Excellent design. You absolutely nailed the "star wars look" while creating something appealing, distinct and original. I didn't even need you to tell me it was the Millennium Falcon's big sister; I knew that the moment I looked at it.

Amazing You have truly captured the Star Wars universe with this design. Disney should be looking for people like yourself, who have a love of Star Wars, to create new ship designs.
Your design makes me exited to be a Star Wars fan. The idea of it being a tug, or a cargo hauler also aludes to an in-universe explanation for why the cockpit is placed on the side! Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
I’m an old Star Wars fan and I love the great ships. The steps you take are the one I’d like to see in the series. Wonderful work, I really, really love it.
Absolutely adore this ship!!! The design, color ways, use case, the intro at the beginning!! Blown away!!! So good man!! Would love to see this in a Star Wars movie one day!!
19:43 I agree with awkwardness not necessarily being a bad thing - it can give designs a lot of charm and personally I find that gun with its limited firing arc much more interesting than if it was "more effective"
You could also look at that weapons pod as an earlier incarnation of the weapons pod that got used on the LAAT/i employed by the clone troopers -- it was an option for the ZT-800, and after field use showed that it had some issues with arc-of-fire limitations, the design with the pod hung completely off the side of the vehicle was adopted for the LAAT/i purely to maximize its arc of fire.
Tech, I am nearly in tears as I watch this video. The time, care and attention you have paid to this art comes through in each frame of this video. The cinematic snippet at the beginning was especially satisfying. The studios no longer care for us fans; we simply want a great story with exciting scenes of ships flying in the sky and in space. They refuse to cater to our simple needs. But what you have done here rekindles that excitement we have been missing for so long. Again, great work my friend. Keep going!! V
On the other hand, having something like this shown in what amounts to a throwaway background element -- as unlikely as I think it would be for Disney to be interested in devoting that amount of work to something that didn't integrate tightly into the storyline -- would greatly increase the feeling of the universe as being more than just a picture frame the main characters pose in front of. That was one of the things that made ANH stand out -- the background elements were given almost as much consideration as the foreground elements, and you can see a steady dribble away of the importance of the backgrounds with each succeeding movie, with re-used and re-dressed props from earlier movies stood in for what should more properly have been their own designs.
Hi Rasmus! I was so happy you created this deep dive into the ZT 800 Mk 2! I really appreciate your thought process in creating this masterpiece. Best wishes for continued success!
I immediately thought of a top-down silhouette of a jumping spider when I saw it. I love those spiders so it's cool. Makes it almost... cute in the same way.
This ship is amazing that you've made, I have been a Star Wars fan since 1977. I am in awe of the opening of your video of this ship of yours in flight.
i especially like how corellian ships cant have more than one floor to maximize FLAT surface ensuring enemies have it easier to hit them kudos, real sportsmanship
My armchair take is "how does it fly?" "What's it's profile when maneuvering against an opponent?" "If it's a hauler, was it even actually designed for combat, or is most of it's combat capabilities coming from after market modding..." Flat, but maneuverable, the front profile is a thin rectangle...So if you're sitting face on or broadside to enemy fire you're presenting the smallest profiles this ship offers...**shrug**...even running away has the thinnest profile this ship offers.
I want this ship in some new SW game !!! Absolutely astonishing design !!! This should get into the main SW lore and next films. Would love a LEGO set like this. Congrats !
For the Nintendo 64, a game was made known as Star Wars - Shadows of the Empire. It's main character was named Dash Rendar. The ship he flew was a Corellion design, a YT-2400 named the Outrider. It was a smaller design than the Millennium Falcon. and the pilot section was at the end of an outrigger style mounting. Incidentally, most of the ships used by the Empire, including all version of the Star Destroyers were Corellion designed and built ships, according to the descriptions I have found; and indeed, you can see design similarities in their designs to that in the Millennium Falcon and the Outrider. This design is quite awesome, I think. It definitely looks as though it belongs in the Star Wars Universe! Well done!
Well done, would love to see more renderings of the internal, possibly in the short story. I think you devised an excellent version of falcon mark one or. The the Condor mark one carillons second attempt at large cargo handling starships
Been following you on social media for years but I'm so happy to find more long-form content here on youtube. Lots of us are curious about your design process. Seems like a very natural fit!
Actually, the position of the "gun pod" is located in a traditional gunship position I.e. AC-130. The traverse and arcs of the guns firing are limited as it is in gunships by design. When a gunship is used as port-side gun it travels in a left-turn orbit and circles around the target to pummel it with accurate fire. So as a military guy I think it is very accurate. Your thought process was on point!
I've been following your Instagram page for a while now and always enjoy your posts. You have a way of nailing the Star Wars aesthetic with your concepts and visuals. Keep up the incredible work!
This is an awesome design, really love the concept of a Heavier, grittier, less hero and more rugged build here. As for the problem with the gunner station not having the coverage, I'd replace that with an ordinance launcher to launch different missiles and torpedoes and whatnot. Decently armoured for a ships of that size with two twin turbolasers and a custom hard point. I love that customisable hard point, really fits into the whole CEC vibe. They build heavily customizable ships so leaning into that is always more interesting. Entire rear portion being engines, oh boy that'd be an awesome hauler for sure and can work well as a tug boat too as you said. Leaving those circular areas blank is another cool thing to do, CEC often leaves extra empty hardpoints for customers to attach stuff they want. Maybe one person would fit in point defence cannons there while another would install extra sensors and so on. That's fun. Really awesome design, i love it.
That intro had my jaw on the floor, but the whole video was super fascinating and I and my Millenium Falcon junky 10 y/o son absolutely loved watching you go through the details. Also, I know you mentioned going for a sunfish look at first, but I am 100% seeing jumping spider. The airlocks, aux thrusters, and cockpit / mini-turret all combine to look like six legs, with the larger grasping legs up front. It even has a head, thorax, and abdomen.
I remember finding your ship online a few years back. Beautiful ship, amazing design, joy to watch. I'd be love to know what the inside looks like... one day. 😄
Glad you thought about the functionality as a freighter and not just the style. I agree its a shame most people never got to see that the two prongs on the Falcon were container grippers.
Amazing work, thanks so much for sharing your design thinking and the various decisions affecting the shape, balance, function etc. This kind of description is missing in similar channels as yours and it can be so valuable and educational. I love the 'greebling" and the texturing in Blender, following specific design and/or engineering ideas, it looks so "realistic" for the Star Wars universe. Totally agree about the engine compartment being 'full of engine parts' rather than storage rooms etc, it makes much more sense. I also loved the double cockpit module with the options for an escape pod or additional armament, very smart. My favourite design feature though must be the angled offset manoeuvring thrusters - this is brilliant! I always thought that manoeuvring thrusters (even tiny ones like in real spaceships) are sorely missing in Star Wars ships designs. Maybe this is because of he original ILM and George Lucas approach of making SW ships fly like WW2 aircraft, with only backwards facing thrusters - which over the years we came to accept as 'normal', even in space. So I think SW ships with side-thrusters and even forward-facing thrusters (for decelerating after a long run or when exiting hyper-space) are a major design improvement and would make sci-fi ships so much more 'realistic' and believable. I would even prefer it, if you had included another set of forward-facing angled thrusters (so 8 in total), for even more manoeuvrability. Design-wise it would look a bit clumsy and maybe not so pretty, but from an engineering point of view it could be even more 'realistic' 🙂🙂. Thanks again, please have more videos like this one if possible.

This is really fantastic work. I was thinking I missed an episode of Andor or Mandolorian where this ship made an appearance. Again, excellent work - you really got into step with the lore and design here.
Honestly, I love the look of this design. I would definitely use this for a Campaign but have it modified to probably have two sets of upper and lower laser cannons so that way it's able to defend itself against fighters better. Sure it'd require more gunners, but if you have a nice sized crew, then you'd be able to handle it.
HOLY.... ok, bud, you have made my morning! I have been looking at a lot of Star Wars ship designs lately preparatory to playing a tabletop rpg online with my friends and family, so I guess the matrix decided I needed this video. It was right for once, how about that? You can see below how blown away fans are by this work. It's the time and attention you've put into it. I will be rewatching this and making myself sit on all my ideas (not only am I not an engineer, I'm not a good modeler so I have to get others to refine my work if I need it looking nice). However, as someone who often makes up lore for items, ships, species, etc., you did cover a couple of points yourself. For one thing, this is an older design without the sleek lines of newer models, because it is a work-craft. CEC, maker of the YT-1300 the MF was based on (in lore, actually real world worked backward since a LOT of players wanted something that looked like the falcon, so figuring out what it was built from let them mess about making their own technological terrors to annoy the empire with!), is known for modularity and ruggedness, and you could say that this design complies with that. The unusually large maneuvering thrusters could be a side-effect of age, but also the need to keep huge containers, ships, parts of ships, etc. moving in tight order to avoid accidents and damage. The engine setup was something more seen with the YT and later series, but that series goes back a ways too. Too, maybe someone wants the MK II to be a later reuse, with updated tech but the same reliability as the older ones. Everyone's TT rpg canon goes differently at times. As for me, since I don't use 3D models yet (and got hacked recently, still trying to get some of that money back) I won't be buying the model just yet, hopefully I can in the future just to support you and your work. If I do drop one into a personal role-playing game, I will be sure the players know where it came from and get a link to this video (Note, I am talking about a personal table-top game where we all make stuff up, nothing is published or charged for, and we do not own the rights to systems we use in any case. No images or animations involved, unless they want to stop the game to watch the beginning of your video.). Ok, I think I've been verbose enough, but do let me say this: THANK YOU. For running with this inspiration, all the work you've put into it, and, especially, sharing it with all the other Star Wars fans. It is much appreciated. My .02 credits on the subject. 👍
Brilliant design, not only do you understand the Star Wars design language, but you added to it by recognizing the inherent conscious or subconscious biology of the design by calling it mandibles, and then taking it to greater degree and embracing it with it's spider like design. You should be working for Lucasfilm, as too many of their designs in their films and series, as of late are not unique, or can be immediately recognized as an offshoot of what has come before, or what is a precursor to what was in Star Wars, which you did perfectly in a thumbnail. Bravo, if anyone knows anyone within that world please forward this to Lucasfilm.
Overall I love this design. The only things I would change is remove those maneuvering engines and replace that ball turret under the cockpit with the pod, but make the pod a small launch that could be used when the ship has landed at a planetside port.
Perfacet ship, give sence, perfect aestetic points. I see this ship as reaction on Ruusaan reformation process - no Republic military so need for cargo transport smaller, better armed ships, which can also defend against pirates. I meen, this something like one of first YT series
Great job on the design, back when I played the Star wars tabletop my favorite part of a game zero session was the creation of the ships that players would use at different points in the game.
Absolutely love this design, to the point that the Falcon itself actually looks a little silly to me now 😅. The elongated hull, the larger and repositioned mandibles, its more overall robust framework... If I was given a choice between the two, I'd definitely go with the ZT 800. It reminds me of a stag beetle.
that intro animation is quite excellent well done it and the ship looks great. the ship is one of those things that get ruined the more you know about how things work. the most important thing is the rule of cool.
I have been working on a couple of my own ship designs that also use the Falcon as a starting point. Would love to share them with you and get your feedback. I really love your design and the thought you have put into it. The shaders are especially amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Have the wings foldable! Only of use in planetary atmosphere!! Utterly amazing design!! It could be Lando Calrissian new spaceship in another Star Wars film or belong to a new character!!😊❤
Since you went into so much detail with the maneuvering thrusters, how some braking thrusters for those heavy cargo modules that seem to be absent from the Star Wars universe. Slowing down in Star Wars is somewhat magical IMHO.
I couldn't help think of some sort of exoring/frame that goes around the ship, like a U so it leaves the front open, where it'll attach to the docking ports. You can then make the exo-U frame have legs, wheels, treads, so the ship can become a impromptu land craft, the legs could make it look like a spider after seeing a comment of how it could named a "Tarantula". Of course if needed can just detach and fly off.
An amazing model! Truly some great work. Definitely a spiritual counterpart to the YT-1300 and YT-2400. Critique (fwiw, which ain't much): Mandibles should slope inward and the thrusters ahead of the drive seem out of place. That's it and just personal preferences.
I would recommend mirror-imaging the draft, putting the cockpit on the starboard side to maintain continuity with the Millennium Falcon's basic design. Logically, it would be much easier for a pilot of the Falcon to upgrade into this model without having to adjust to the mass of the ship being to his right instead of his left.
Awesome, would add more "defense guns" other than that perfect. Here is the idea the YT-1300 was a mid sized tug. Your ZT 800 is a Heavy long haul tug. The nacelles on the side offer more controlled maneuvering in tight places and offer additional maneuvering thrust or in an emergency, additional thrust if the main engines go down. More engines means double the freight capacity. Having more power means a heavier defensive shield. It also allows a bit more crew space for the extended haul. Just some thoughts.

This is really well done!
Thank you
Dude! That is amazing! I love the designs
@@TheFester22 thx
HOLY.... ok, bud, you have made my morning! 👍
@@RifterBlade Awesome. Happy you like it :)
That is a badass design!
Thats sooooo pretty!!! Its beautiful!!! Well done!!!
Absolutely beautiful! 🥰🙏
😮 I've subscribed for this great work, thank you for sharing, 👍.
@@marvinanderson5819 good idea
Absolutely wonderful.
very well done sir. I like your other ship designs as well.
This is a beautiful and an amazing ship
This is brilliant. I love the upgrades design.
Thank you for putting this out! Very inspirational!
Really cool ship . Have you thought about the inside and the layout ?
And what a resin print of it ? I would love a fysical version …
phenomenal
It's beautiful 😍 ... can't help but it reminds me of an antlion
Well done that ship looks cool
Straight away..I want one.!😊😊❤
Excellent work, good sir.
Love it. Amazing work :D
You have earned a sub! Great ship! Great video!
Agreed
Fantastic design and process!
Over here from IG, big fan of your work. Love this ship!
Thank you for the tour.
@@slyvern7350 :)
@@bensaret Wow
Taking an already great design to higher levels!
Wow Brilliant.👽
that intro animation is quite excellent well done it and the ship looks great. the ship is one of those things that get ruined the more you know about how things work. the most important thing is the rule of cool.
I have been working on a couple of my own ship designs that also use the Falcon as a starting point. Would love to share them with you and get your feedback. I really love your design and the thought you have put into it. The shaders are especially amazing. Thanks for sharing.
@@3drocket Thank you. Post em here
Have the wings foldable! Only of use in planetary atmosphere!! Utterly amazing design!! It could be Lando Calrissian new spaceship in another Star Wars film or belong to a new character!!😊❤
This looks AMAZING! great job! 👏👏👏👏
@@adtrlthegamer7449 Jeez that’s some crazy sh*t :) I like your mind
GREAT job! I like the away it flies with a certain feel of added weight compared to the lighter Millennium falcon.
I loved this fan ship so much I drew fanart of it and shared it with the creator on their instagram page.
