There were small start collecting boxes that had 5 of these 2nd Edition plastic Khorne Berserkers for $7.50/box. I bought ALL of them. They became the backbone of my World Eaters force. I think I have 40 of them? I also picked up three 3rd edition starter boxes for $25 each for a total of 30 marines, 3 landspeeders, and 60 Dark Eldar (the start of my Dark Angels and Dark Eldar forces). Total of 130 Infantry and 3 Land Speeders for under $140? I made out like a bandit.
Nice to see another video. Very bright and vibrant Khorne Berserkers, Berserkers of Khorne. I especially like the green elements. Something interesting I discovered in the Chaos book is that some of the Chaos Marines have been given guns from the Gorkamorka sprues. This is especially noticeable in the Alpha Legion and Night Lords sections.

I have 10 of these and some of the various metal champions. Since I did Black Legion back in the day I was going with a black and silver motif with some panels picked out in red. One of my guys though got gold trim and was considered a squad vet because in a game of 2ed, he charged a squad of Deathwing Terminators in a forest. He made contact with 2 of them, and proceeded to kill both of them with his chainsword. This is back in the day when Terminators were saving on 3+ on 2d6. Sure, there were save modifiers, but the save modifier for a chainsword was -1 so the DA player just needed to roll 4+ on 2d6for 2 guys. Both Failed. I immediately marked him out because he was getting gold trim for his heroism.
I love those old 2nd ed minis. They were cheap enough for a young me to purchase and they looked awesome. I have a box of these, the Death Guard, and the Eldar monopose models along with the RTB01 Space Marine box and 2nd edition launch box minis. I had the old Squats, and IG boxes but I sold them in the mid 90's. I didn't have many metal miniatures as they were price prohibitive for my discretionary budget at that time. I've also tried to collect some of these old models and recently purchased an almost complete set of the Ork Raiders and Harlequin original boxed minis.
It just occured to me why you paint better than I do. There are many factors. A big one must be that you paint minis that I never would paint, like the ones featured in this video. I pretty much only paint what I play. You paint everything. So, you have to do all kinds of colors and different effects. Wow! I am just learning this now at my age. I wonder how much I could have improved if I had painted a few things from other armies. When there is no need to finish them quickly, because you won't play them, you can try all kinds of tips and techniques. I can't believe I am just learning this!!

Nice. Glazed chainswords look amazing! Best of luck hunting down old metal champions, they are absolutely groovy. About the trim: some Berzerkers used to have black trim instead of brass or gold. I have so many berzerkers for a modern World Eaters army, I plan to try out most of their paint schemes. You gotta tel the squads apart somehow!
Yes! I'm painting world eaters, and have just gotten into 40k. I've always loved the 90s aesthetic and I'm going with the scarlet/orange-red colour scheme. The darkest red I'm using is mephiston lol

I still have all my 2nd edition Khorne and CSM models, and during covid stripped the paint off all of them except my 2nd Edition Abaddon, Chaos Dreadnought and my monopose worldesters... because i like to look at the unthinned straight from the pot and no u dercost paint jobs I did and see hoe much better I at painting 30 years later! Great video by the way, I feel inspired to paint the metal Khorne and CSM models that I stripped and are waiting to be redone.
Your videos have me constantly diving into by bits boxes to see if I still have some of the models like those you have painted. I am happy to say that I do still have, (a lot more than I expected), 2nd ed. casts. Someday, I may actually do something with them.

I recommend getting a de esser for your microphone mate, a simple and pretty cheap bit of kit that will help remove those sharp noises when recording. Nice to see some of these old models from my childhood, always loved the thousand sons looks and the old rule for "All is dust."
These 2nd Edition plastic Bezerkers were also designed to be matched with the older metal bezerker models too. Edit: just noticed you have a metal chap as a leader.
They look great - your non-metallic gold is super convincing. I can relate to the blu-tack thing, that was my go to solution to putting new heads on 3rd edition marines where the 'bowl' socket for the helmet needed filling in - much less ambitious than actually adding new sculpted elements, so I got away with it (largely thanks to slathering the whole neck in superglue once the head was stuck on).

A tip for glazing, you had too much paint on your brush. It should feel damp, or look like your brush is clean. Then do alot of layers to get the best effect, with your brush strokes ending where you want the colour to be strongest

I started in about lateish 5th 09, and it was necrons and metal models and hybrid kits were a thing still for most armies. As much as plastic is far far easier to work with, the metal models did have a charm to them in their simplicity and the heft when moving them is very rewarding. I have a few old metal models in my necrons and some in my blood angels. Blood angels only needs a mephiston upgrade. I didn’t play in the era of mostly metal, but I too look at the old models as nice pieces.

At first i thought world eaters were a little bland, but then i saw a meme of a furious angron dunking on another space marine with the caption "fuck it we ball." I get it now. I get it.
It's not precisely canon, but I like to imagine followers of Khorne aren't uniform in their temperament. They're not ALL frothing mad, barely controllable. Granted, when they're in the throes of combat, they probably all go a little overboard. Blood for the Blood God, and all that. But I think there's a _reason_ the World Eaters need to stick the Butcher's Nails in the heads of their initiates. It's not _just_ tradition, to please Big Daddy Angron. It makes them even angrier, which pleases Khorne. At the cost of becoming the stereotype. Conversely, non-W.E. Beserkers might have a slightly more even temperament when not on the field of battle. Folks who have pledged themselves to Khorne, yes, but might at least be reasoned with. Albeit they have a shorter temper. Some might be stoic or even introspective, seeing battle rage as a kind of meditation. (More like Harry, aka Agent Galahad, from Kingsmen 1, when he went on his enforced murder rampage; no frothing madness, only a cold fury and determination to kill every single MFer in that room). Or they might jovial, reveling in the glory of war, not unlike the Space Wolves. Leaning more into the "Viking" style of Chaos followers from Warhammer Fantasy. To them, appeasing or pleasing the Blood God is a necessity, if not a pleasure. They might respect the World Eaters for their dedication to Khorne, but also pity them. There's no joy in what the World Eaters do, only the relief of suppressing the stabbing pain in their heads. Sad warriors, who will hopefully be granted the mercy of death, martyred in the Blood God's name. Other Khorne followers might, at least, _enjoy_ themselves as they spill blood and stack skulls. Still others might see their butchery as a grim necessity. As (heretic) Astartes, they weren't necessarily given a choice in their ascension. Or they won it as children, proving themselves worthy in trials. To them, Khorne is one who offers boons. The rage that comes with it the price to pay for power, something to be leashed lest you be lost to it. For these Beserkers, their occupation is a constant struggle, as well as a test of their willpower. For can an Astartes truly prove themselves worthy of glory - truly deserving of dark apotheosis - if they're merely a helpless pawn of their fury?

It's not precisely canon, but I like to imagine followers of Khorne aren't uniform in their temperament. They're not ALL frothing mad, barely controllable. Granted, when they're in the throes of combat, they probably all go a little overboard. Blood for the Blood God, and all that.
But I think there's a _reason_ the World Eaters need to stick the Butcher's Nails in the heads of their initiates. It's not _just_ tradition, to please Big Daddy Angron. It makes them even angrier, which pleases Khorne. At the cost of becoming the stereotype.
Conversely, non-W.E. Beserkers might have a slightly more even temperament when not on the field of battle. Folks who have pledged themselves to Khorne, yes, but might at least be reasoned with. Albeit they have a shorter temper. Some might be stoic or even introspective, seeing battle rage as a kind of meditation. (More like Harry, aka Agent Galahad, from Kingsmen 1, when he went on his enforced murder rampage; no frothing madness, only a cold fury and determination to kill every single MFer in that room).
Or they might jovial, reveling in the glory of war, not unlike the Space Wolves. Leaning more into the "Viking" style of Chaos followers from Warhammer Fantasy. To them, appeasing or pleasing the Blood God is a necessity, if not a pleasure. They might respect the World Eaters for their dedication to Khorne, but also pity them. There's no joy in what the World Eaters do, only the relief of suppressing the stabbing pain in their heads. Sad warriors, who will hopefully be granted the mercy of death, martyred in the Blood God's name. Other Khorne followers might, at least, _enjoy_ themselves as they spill blood and stack skulls.
Still others might see their butchery as a grim necessity. As (heretic) Astartes, they weren't necessarily given a choice in their ascension. Or they won it as children, proving themselves worthy in trials. To them, Khorne is one who offers boons. The rage that comes with it the price to pay for power, something to be leashed lest you be lost to it. For these Beserkers, their occupation is a constant struggle, as well as a test of their willpower. For can an Astartes truly prove themselves worthy of glory - truly deserving of dark apotheosis - if they're merely a helpless pawn of their fury?
