Multiplayer IFF Tutorial - DCS World

In today's video we'll look at how to interact and use the IFF system in various aircraft. We'll cover IFF basics, transponder usage, and how to interrogate targets in various fighters that have that capability within DCS.
IFF is a great tool to use to be able to identify friendlies, though it should not generally be used as the sole source of information to identify hostile targets. The AWACS is a great asset to use, and will provide target deconfliction. In my video here I did not use the AWACS so I would always have unknown target symbology and would have to deconflict them myself.

Hello, Really informative video as i'm highly looking for F18's IFF videos and can't seems to grab on good information, somehow i've learnt quiet a lot about the IFF transponder and how it behaves, i have DCS for 7 years but i have been flying since few weeks now, as i'm using an old PC and a joystick. Thank you for your video and time, as it's been a year since this released, do you think that Mode 1 and 3 are useable in DCS be that singleplayer or multi? because it is immersive. Sorry for typing alot :D

Glad you enjoyed it! Outside of the LotATC program that that human controllers can use with DCS, I'm fairly certain Mode 1 and 3 don't do anything in the sim. Certainly good for immersion though!

Recently I've been watching some french channel Mirage 2000 videos and there is a guy who actually demonstrated the mode 1 and 3 implemented in DCS for mirage i believe, now i haven't seen him interrogating someone with these modes specifically but i think it's getting implemented slowly. I´m about to jump to multiplayer now, after SP ~2 years with numerous planes. About that Lotac (?) ATC, do serves use it a lot. IF so how can I know which towers are "manned" and which not? (sry for littlebit of offtopic.) thanks for very informative video. I like when you tell these in a way that kinda every lvl dcs pilot can make use of em. Keep it up!

Thanks! Not many servers use human ATC, and if they do it tends to be for events only instead of all the time. The mission briefing (Left ALT + B) should tell you if that server is manned, and include SRS frequencies for that purpose. For unmanned servers, there will usually be a common SRS Frequency for pilots to use.
