    Super example of what a tutorial should be like. Thank you for taking your time to do these!

    It's interesting how things have changed. In the mid-1980s.
    In the Navy and maybe the other branches, we had Link 11 datalink (apparently it's still in use for some things).
    We had NTDS - Naval Tactical Data System (including a console in each ready room that nobody knew how to use), and the symbology back then looked the same as HUFA but was a bit simpler and had somewhat different meanings - "soft" shapes like a U, an inverted U or a circle were friendly contacts, "sharp" shapes like a V, an inverted V or a diamond were hostile contacts, and "in-betwen" shapes like a staple pointing up, a staple pointing down or a square were unknowns. If the symbol was the "top half" it was an air contact, if it was the "bottom half" it was a submarine contact, and if it was "both halves" it was a surface contact. So for example, a circle would be a friendly surface contact, an inverted V would be a hostile air contact, and a staple pointing up would be an unknown submarine contact.
    Each contact's vector line would lengthen or shorten based on the general speed of the contact - a short line was slower and a long line was faster. (I don't know if a short line on an air contact was the same speed as a long line on a surface ship, or if a long line on an air contact was fast [maybe 500 knots] and a long line for a surface contact was fast for that contact type [maybe 50 knots].) Does anyone know if that's still the case or do the vector lines stay the same length? I did a quick search online that didn't turn up anything.

    I have just gotten back into the F18 and have been watching ALL of your videos and find that they are very clear, concise and extremely helpful. Keep up the good work and update the tutorials as needed.

    Could you do a tutorial on how to setup Inter-flight IFF, like knowing which planes are your flight group? For like when using HMD with the hornet?

    I never get the interogation to work, any idea why? It only works when i get a stt lock, but not without when in normal rws mode... has this been changed?

    But with NCTR and propeller plane, does it scans the plane's blade ?

    • @ravagetalon
      @ravagetalon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know? I actually am not sure. I might have to test that. In real life NCTR checks against a known database of aircraft. No idea how it handles Warbirds or if the Hornet knows a P-51D from a FW-190, etc.

  • @faabound
    @faabound ปีที่แล้ว

    Ah the old myth that NCTR uses blade count to ID.

      Turn up the HMD brightness on the right of the right display screen. Underneath the IR COOL switch.
