F-100 Super Sabre Flight!
Pretty awesome day to share with you all, the F-100F Super Sabre (tail number 56-3844) returning to the sky! She last flew in 2018. This flight was mainly a functional check flight. Pretty awesome hearing that burner light up!

FOD Fishing | F-4 Phantom
มุมมอง 2.6K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Today we are making more progress toward running the engines. That means we have to do a thorough check for any FOD (foreign objects) everywhere we have worked. One way to do that is a borescope camera which can get into tight spaces that are hard to check with just a flashlight and a mirror. Also had to deal with a tug that wouldn't start. For those of you that are on Instagram, check out Jack...
First Look at AVA, Thrustmaster's New Joystick Base!
มุมมอง 1.5K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
Today we look at the new AVA joystick base from Thrustmaster! This base is a very nice upgrade from the Warthog base, or as a standalone joystick base. It is compatible with both grips from the Warthog, the Hornet grip and the Warthog/Viper grip. While the Warthog is a very good stick, and one I've used for a few years now, the AVA takes it even further with how it feels as you fly in simulatio...

F-4E Electrical and Lighting Systems | DCS World
มุมมอง 2.5K28 วันที่ผ่านมา
In today's DCS video, we explore the electrical and lighting systems in the F-4 Phantom. As with many things in the Phantom, things can get quite complicated, and this should help make more sense out of both the electrical and lighting systems. If you are wondering why I did not include lighting in the WSO cockpit, it is not because I forgot about it. Lighting in the backseat is identical to th...

I knew a nam vet that was a tech / mechanic/ ground crew of this airframe. Keep them flying ! 👍
Thank you for the privilege of seeing this iconic aircraft fly. I never thought I would see one fly. Hopefully this is a later model F-100 so you don't have to worry about the Saber Dance as much.
My father used to work on these amazing planes when he was in the Air Force -he was a crew chief for the Thunderbirds back in the day as well
It's time to find an F-8.....
The f-100 looks the best in that camo paint scheme
Is it a secret to shoot the camera out of the cockpit window? All I saw was the pilot's leg.
No, that camera overheated and shut down. If it had hung on a few more minutes the air conditioning would have helped it out.
I have simulator fly F-100 SUPER SABRE. I LOVE THIS AIRCRAFT😍🥰🤠💋👍🦅🏆
Hard lite burner.
Where is this?
KEFD Ellington Field, south of Houston, Texas.
Are the seats hot or inert ?
Nice cockpit shot.
Misty!
Interesting fact, in 1965 a Learjet 23 (with 7 people onboard) climbed faster than the F-100 to 10,000 ft.
Also interestingly, the Lear 23 also shares the same engines as our reproduction Me-262, the GE CJ610. :)
I knew it was condensation, but my next thing was cool interior IFR cockpit LOL Nice flight and it must have been awesome to feel the power.
Where was that ?
KEFD Ellington Field, just south of Houston, TX.
Hello 👋 I knew a man who flew the F100 as a test pilot for NASA ! Cam Patterson. Awesome Gentleman 😊
I was an MOS-6657, which was a Westinghouse AWG10 radar tech. (Marine/Navy F-4J's) That puppy FILLED up that nose cavity, and you would stick a rail in the top, take off the 4 bolts, and slide that big monster out. Back then, the Phantom cost 4.5 million......and the radar was 1 million of that. I had a dual trace oscilliscope, frequency counters, all of that. When we were on the Nimitz, I would sometimes trace the problem down to component level. Normally you would just replace the assembly or module. But we were in the middle of the Atlantic (on a 7 month Med)....and bored. haha That skill I learned in the military set me for life. Thanks, Chesty 🙂
That’s a very cool aircraft of the Century Series. Are you guys in possession of a Thud by any chance? I don’t even know if any Thuds are still flying.
The Hun was the first of that series! I heard that the Foundation tried to get a Thud some years back and were told no. To my knowledge, there aren't any flyable Thuds.
@@DieselThunderAviation Thanks for the info. Sad that not even one is flying. You guys are doing great work!
Kick ass
Ah, the F-100F. Two fewer guns to look after. This video takes me back to 1961 and my gun-plumbing days at Spangdahlem AFB. At that time, the alert area was located very close to Runway 05, and I frequently stood there and watched as F-100s lit off afterburners for takeoff. One warm and quiet day when the noise seemed especially violent I looked down and found that my fatigue uniform was literally shaking with the sound. The F-105s that replaced the Hun definitely seemed to be less noisy than the F-100 on takeoff. A couple of times, however, an F-105 passing over the base went into what was known as afterburner screech, and that was perhaps the weirdest damn sound I ever heard. Some of the older troops said it sounded like a V1 buzz bomb going over. One question for viewers: does anybody know why the start unit was referred to, back in the day, as a "'Ploosh' unit"? Everybody called it that, but nobody knew where the name originated. As for running a tug out of fuel, when the guy said, "Well, at least we know where usable fuel ends," I thought, okay, fellow aircraft mechanic identified. Always seeing the practical side of a situation.
Will this F4 be used for flight training again through Collings Foundation once it's flying again??
Ukrainian fighter pilots are salavting at the thought of this hangar full of these guys "TOYS"
I need a F100 patch and shirt!?!!
Take her to Oshkosh!
My Late Brother Bob was at Luke Air Force base in Phoenix in 1959 working as a Weapon Mechanic on that bird in the days. Still have one on Display in front of Base I believe. After Leaving the Service in 1963 He spent 33 years working for Lockheed.
What an absolutely great view of the pilot's right leg ! We'll learn alot from that camera !
I am not a forrensic scientist, but it looks like blood on the support brace, a tough time indeed!
I think you are right!
I miss those days of the old jets flying, grew up on the California desert in the 70s. Saw many F-100, F-105, F-106, and the F-4s fly out of Edwards AFB, George AFB and China Lake. Too bad my father's flight instructor isn't around. His favorite aircraft in the USAF was the F-100, especially the D model with flaps. Flew multiple tours in Vietnam in the F-100 then O-1 Bird Dog, finishing in the South Vietnamese Air Force in the O-1. His career would have made an incredible book to read. I can't describe to my kids, that distinct smell of the old J-57, J-75 and J-79 engines on start up and taxi, no modern jet engine has that smell.
Because they changed the fuel to reduce smoke and be more efficient/eco friendly. If they used that same old fuel it would smell like you remember.
Do you intend to fly the F-4 also?
Of course! We were hoping to have her back in the air sooner, just the electrical system and the right main gear had other plans.
If gopro's are so unreliable, why do youtube'ers use them so much?
I wonder how the faa could allow the collings foundation to operate the f4 and f100 ....they couldn't handle the maintenance of a b17!
That's awesome she still has the Radar inop or not. Definitely a huge part of the phantom history! Would be so cool to have the radome open at a show.
That depends on whether she's a static display or a participant in the show. We're hoping for the latter, but we need to get her airborne again first!
Impressive accomplishment, successfully getting a project of this scale, to a point of actually flying. Congratulations to all involved, and thanks for sharing.
You guys are awesome. keep up the hard work and Fun! I love just about anything that flies.
You guys are awesome ! Question. Why drag the chute all the way back to the hanger ? When I was an USAF brat I'd sit at the end of the flightline and watch the Phantom IIs land. They make a wide U turn at the end of the runway, run up the engines to inflate the chute then release it to blow off into the grass. A guy would come out and pick them all up.
just gorgeous ! she's still got it goin' on !!
yall comin to oshkosh?
I simply cannot imagine the amount of knowledge and skills needed to keep this AC in the air. Those F100's look like they're flying even when they're on the ground.
Great video and congratulations on the successful flight. Gotta love the AB. It’s a turbo money to noise converter ! 😁
That was just a single engine. Wait till you experience a pair of J-79, 142db of bone rattling Thunder.
Might be worth looking at insta360 cams, the museum has no issue with them, and I know a number of airshow performers are running them :)
So so awesome! would love to see an F-105 brought back to life sometime.
They tried years ago like the early 2000s. Congress even passed a resolution for it. But the Air Force didn't want them to have a flying one and destroyed the ones that could have been air worthy. Atleast thats the story I remeber.
Yeah, I think they broke them in a way to keep them from ever being airworthy, but still keep them on static .display
I got my very first jet ride (fighter) in this jet when it belonged to Tracor Flight Systems sometime in 1985. The registration number then was N415FS. Nice to see it flying again.
Take it to high high altitude 🔥🔥🤌🤌🦅🇺🇲🦅🇺🇲
is this the one that was silver with a red fin flash?
No. The one you are thinking of is owned by Dean Cutshall, and is based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Awesome! Thanks for the video! Remove the tow bars from all aircraft when parked!
Is that SOP ?
Airfield?
Ellington Field, just south of Houston, Texas. KEFD.
@@DieselThunderAviation thank you!
Fantastic! Do you fly with live seats?
That sucks about the go pro footage. I'm an amateur camera guy myself and I can't tell you how many times I've lost some good footage due to some nonsense.
that camera angle keeps getting me 😂😂😂😂😂😂
