Viola Davis was the supposed frontrunner twice before for The Help and Ma Rainey but she lost to two white actresses who had two Oscars. As a woman who has struggled to have kids, I appreciate her willingness to admit her infertility publicly. People can be VERY judgmental and insensitive about it, which is incredibly hurtful, so a celebrity of her stature pointing out her own heartbreak is doing a service to others.
Fan since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, then the Bond film, and then Memoirs of a Geisha, and now what a career resurgence -- so glad she stuck it out, and yes, represented -- and well! Hopefully this does help with combatting ageism (feel it myself in the workplace and I'm only in my 40s!) by giving opportunities for people from all walks of life. The directors saw her potential, and hopefully it does lead to an Oscar nom!

I worked on Everything Everywhere All at Once during pre-production (locating scouting) with the Daniels, cinematographer, etc. (never got to meet Michelle unfortunately). Michelle deserves all of the awards and recognition she's getting with this film. Excited for her to win the Oscar!
I've been watching her since I was kid in the 80s in Hong Kong. I just remember that one year she got into a very serious accident because she did most of her own stunts. It's unimaginable the kind of success she has achieved and she totally deserves it. I love this film, but to me nothing beats her role in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. That was just epic.
She almost died while filming "The Stunt Woman" (1996) on what was a "relatively easy" stunt for Michelle. After her 1st action sequence in CTHD, Michelle tore her ACL. She was still injured when she filmed Chow's (Li Mu Bai) death scene. She was so marvelous in that scene, that Ang Lee had to cry in private for 15mins, + referred to her brilliant acting as "1 of the most precious moment of his life". I truly felt in 2001 + still now, that Michelle should have been nominated for CTHD - her portrayal of Shu Lien was reserved, but powerful; poignant; deep; nuanced; - she was indeed the "the merciful dragon". (Lee also said Michelle carried the film - she carried all the burdens + obligations.)
I love how she spoke emotionally, sincerely, and with passion - both in her career and personal life. I will be looking up for her to hold that Oscar she so deserved.
