    My understanding is that a 1.5qt accumulator doesn't hold 1.5qt of oil, because the air (and maybe the piston) take up some of the volume. Moroso has a good video that explains how the accumulator works.

    Great product. I use the ball valve. I don't see any benefit to the pressure switch either. The system works way better when it's seeing engine oil pressure the entire time. It can then respond to small changes of oil pressure. The oil pressure is way more even like that.

    Justin, great video, thank you so much for putting this together! During the video, you added some captioning that stated you had better results without the pressure relief valve. Can you elaborate on that a bit? Also, you said that you don't need to turn on the solenoid when filling the accumulator for the first time. is that because you have the pressure relief valve? Thanks!

    • @TheBTRGarage

      Yea, the pressure sensor switch is not needed. What it does is it holds oil in the accumulator *until* pressure drops below 40psi. By that time the oil pressure is already dropping rapidly into the low 30's and makes the accumulator less effective. Without the pressure sensing switch, the accumulator is reacting to *any* loss in oil pressure and putting oil back into the engine, not just when it goes below 40psi.
      When you have an electronic solenoid (ie: on/off valve, not to be confused with the pressure sensor switch) it does not need to be "open" in order for oil to go *into* the accumulator. But, it needs to be open for it to go out and back into the engine. So on the first startup, all that needs to happen is oil gets into the accumulator, so no need for it to be open.

    Since overfill comes with its own negatives, a good test would be to know if the pressure drops are eliminated or at least mostly mitigated with the accumulator with no overfill.

    • @TheBTRGarage

      That's a good idea, I may test that out at the next track day.

  • @sikrip

    Nice job. Waiting for the results!
    Would starting the car without the extra 1.5q let it idle for a while and then add the extra oil(while checking the dipstick) be an option?
    This would prevent the engine running with ~2q extra oil for some short time.

    • @TheBTRGarage

      Yea that is definitely an option, but it doesn't hurt to run it for a few moments with the extra oil. The accumulator tank fills up pretty quick.

  • @1atinlove

    Is there any maintenance needed on this unit? Once installed what should we look out for to avoid a push of excess oil into engine?

    • @TheBTRGarage

      About the only thing I have noticed is you have to relieve the accumulator tank pressure every few drives by opening the valve without the engine on. I've seen the tank pressure slowly creep up to ~130psi when it should be around ~100psi from cold starts. So, all I do is put the car to ignition on (so the electric valve has power) and then open the valve for 30 seconds before starting the car. Then I turn the valve back off. That helps pre-oil the engine as well, but also get the tank pressure back down after creeping up without use.

    • @1atinlove

      @TheBTRGarage I've always liked your channel thanks for the information. Have you had any issue with to much oil in the system? And it causing complications?

    • @TheBTRGarage

      @1atinlove the only issue with too much oil is you might get some smoke from the exhaust after startup, briefly. I only saw this when testing a full 1qt overfill (prior to accumulator).

    i'm more interested in the phone mount that you have. can you please advise what mount that is?

    • @TheBTRGarage

      It's this 3D printed mount but with a custom backing plate:
      ► 3d printed phone mount : etsy.me/3hQOZTG
      The backing plate mount (instead of a magsafe mount) is made to fit phone mounts with 30mm X 38mm squared holes. You can ask him to custom print a mount like that or just use the magsafe default if that's what you use.

    • @Mr_DiEnd

      @@TheBTRGarage yeah i have that 3 printed mount but wanted to customize it to fit a regular phone holder plate cause magnetics fall off in rougher driving and i saw your mount/plate it was perfect! so i was wondering. did you make that plate yourself?

    • @TheBTRGarage

      No, the guy printed it for me when I bought his mount. I just told him what base I wanted (iBolt 30x38mm hole base) and he printed a couple for me that fit that. If you msg me on Instagram (thebtrjustin) can probably send you photos, I've sent to other people before.

    What do you do if don’t use the pressure sensor?

    • @TheBTRGarage

      Just turn on the accumulator and it will do it's thing. It will just react to any drop in pressure and not just a pressure lower than the pressure sensor is set to (that is actually how I run it now, no pressure sensor/switch).

    does the AN fitting need to be at the galley port? my turbo oil line is coming from there. should i move my turbo oil line from the cam gear area and get a verus cam plate?

    • @TheBTRGarage

      Hmm, that might be tricky. If there is another oil feed option for the turbo, I would move the turbo there. Keep the accumulator on the oil galley port.

    You never actually mentioned what the adapter fitting for the oil pressure gauge was , what the size is, what fittings it adapts, seems like you actually edited that part out and then later in the video mention that you spoke on what it is earlier in the video …. BUT NEVER DO. Why ? I actually went back to see what part I need and ….. you just skip it. Wanna let the people know ?

    • @TheBTRGarage

      The pressure gauge on the tank? That comes pre-installed by default, you don't need to do, or get anything.

    • @RyanPine

      @@TheBTRGarage no. For the oil pressure gauge to move to the location of the stock oil pressure sensor, whatever that adapter fitting is …. I think it’s ntp to something else. Where do you buy that adapter.

    • @TheBTRGarage

      That one is 1/8bspt to 1/8npt. BSPT is the thread on the block/OEM oil pressure switch. I thought I said that in the video? Maybe I did edit it out for some reason...anyways, it is this:
      amzn.to/3P8Gukt
      I didn't want to get too deep on the oil pressure sensor setup because it is a bit more complicated and lots of parts are needed.
