    While I know it stinks the engine has to be replaced it’s honestly nice seeing an engine tear down. Given all the articles about the RTV issue this gives a good glimpse at the engine as a whole and not just the pick up tube.

    Replace timing chain guides, they are wear items, with heat cycles aging them brittle.

    Badass video! I think this has got to be one of the earlier FA24 teardowns. Super cool to see as a 22 BRZ owner.

    great vid. Nice to know there isnt an insane amount of RTV on the timing cover. Seems like dropping the oil pan once maybe twice for the life of the car should be enough. I can rest easy now.. unless I've underestimated things?

    This is awesome. This has to be the first fa24 teardown! Probs.
    Need to see the bottom end of the fa24 asap tho!!!

    I'd love to see you get in at the connecting rods in the next video. I've heard it's a different process compared to the old motors so it'd be really cool to see how that's done.

    Rebuild it for lower compression and a reliable boosted 400+whp, do a realistic budget for the rebuild. Get lots of content with the rebuilt motor, lots of people will tune in for a boosted FA24D, AVO turbo world has already shown the capability of the fa24f, this should be very doable.
    This is an oppurtunity to guide an entire community of people into boosting their 2nd gens whether theyre new to the platform or have plenty of experience with boxers and 1st gen.
    Do the turbo manifold with gtech cats since they seem to be one of the best options right now.

  • @jamespark6132
    @jamespark6132 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You might need to change the timing cover too, if there is a metal pieces in the oil pump. I know the first gen is one piece with the timing cover ( dumb and expensive to replace)

    So with this engine failure being possibly a bearing problem are you replacing the oil cooler (warmer) and fully disassembling the oil pump and vvt gears?

    • @KevinVo
      @KevinVo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, everything will be getting sent out to be cleaned or replaced if necessary.

  • @Soravia
    @Soravia 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    When you put it back together, make sure RTV is HALF the factory spec or less, and tacky before the parts go together. If you see any RTV beading out after torque, that's too much.

    Is there any carbon buildup in the intake valves??

    • @olivermcleod144
      @olivermcleod144 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      dual fuel injection really helps keep carbon deposits down, so its not that big of a concern on the fa20/fa24 afaik

    • @Tonga2
      @Tonga2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@olivermcleod144 oh yes I have known that for a long time. I’ve seen intake valves on the Mazda Miata after 3000 miles with carbon build up. The dual injection should be so much better in our BRZs. Just thought it would be nice to have seen the intake as you had the head off.

    Kevin I saw the comment on the rtv on the timing cover mating surfaces. How bad did the rest of the rtv sites look on the motor?

    • @KevinVo
      @KevinVo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's a lot of RTV everywhere. Other than the actual color of the RTV it's almost nearly impossible to tell where the RTV that's getting stuck in people's pickup tubes is coming from.

    • @paulie428
      @paulie428 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The audacity of this dogwater company is hilarious. Buy your parts from somewhere else than FTSpeed or Subispeed folks; support somewhere that supports its employees and treats them with respect.
    An 8-year, passionate, face-of-your company employee deserves the respect and courtesy of at least a conversation being had about any conflicts of interest or things that would necessitate termination of employment if continued.
    To outright fire him out of the blue without giving him a heads up or notice that something he is doing/saying will not fly and deny him the ability to make an informed decision on what his options are going forward reflects poorly upon FTSpeed/Subispeed.
    In a game where you just play the middleman, I will gladly take my business elsewhere to some other middleman that isn't FTSpeed/SubiSpeed; there are a plethora of other options out there that can access more or less the same catalogue of items.
    FTSpeed/Subiespeed did Kevin Vo dirty, when Kevin Vo was a SIGNIFICANT part of why the company is as successful as it is today - hopefully yall's marketshare takes a deserving hit and Kevin lands somewhere that will treat him better and be worthy of the good-business his passion and efforts bring forth.

    So far everything looks to be reusable. My bet is a bad rod bearing. Probably chewed the crank all up.
