    Great video, goes to show the oil pressure is perfect for anyone using their car on the road network, that’s a relief for 90% of owners, the 10%!that turn their GR86 into a track car with super sticky tires may need additional hardware to stop the pressures dropping as demonstrated on other videos, but for me, it’s given me peace of mind that the GR86 and BRZ boxer engine isn’t badly designed for its main intended use, a fun going sports car.
    Thank you

      It's pretty sweet! I have been really impressed with RaceChrono and what you can do with it, very customizable (ie: for this I made oil pressure/temperature the big gauges)

      @@TheBTRGaragewhat camera setup are you using? I really like how well everything comes together with the CAN injected data, race Chrono, and the footage. Currently planning out my oil pressure logging setup for my GR86 (also a trueno blue!).
      EDIT: Answered my own question, saw in a different video you were using GoPro with race chrono

    I tried canyon drive and I cannot reproduce oil pressure drops. I think it due to 2 facts: 1. most of the time engine RPM is not that high, I rarely red line the engine in high speed turns like I did on the track. 2. Rarely I max out the lateral G in complex turns with elevation changes. However there exist people drive togue like the car was stolen so I would not surprise some people can run into engine issue on the canyon. We looked at our data and summaries the patterns that usually trigger the pressure drops:
    1. Engine is in high RPM (over 5k rpm) and it is a right turn.
    2. A long turn (e.g. Laguna Seca T4, ButtonWillow CW13, Thunderhill East T3)
    3. Elevation changes (e.g. Sonoma T2, Thunderhill T8W)
    4. The turn is off camber (Sonoma T2, Thunderhill T8W as well).
    5. There is a left turn before the right turn (S turns, Thunderhill T5W)
    If 1 and two of the rest patterns are met, we almost always see pressure drop. Hope this info is help you to set up a baseline for the baffle testing.
    Where did you get that Kazama baffle? We are very interested to test it but the retailers we talked to don't have them in stock.

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the detailed info! I've been following what you guys have been testing too. I imagine I will see similar oil pressure drops when I do get it back to the track. Since you guys have already narrowed down the scenarios where it typically occurs, I should be able to easily reproduce it. But, we'll see, different tracks obviously.
      I lucked out on the Kazama baffle, found a guy that was selling one new in box on fb 86 market (tip from a other 86 oil pressure tester).

    Great contribution. I'm saving up for a GR86 and this use case is pretty much what I have in mind for it. I'm eyeing an occasional trackday, but won't stray too far from stock, so this looks perfect.

      @TheBTRGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I have been running it about 1/2 quart over filled since ~4k miles. It is roughly 1/4" over the dipstick full line. I should probably include that info in the description, thanks!

    One thing that always amazed me, as they never put all pressure/temp sensors/gauges on all the high performance Subaru vehicles, like other manufacturers. It's a real basic thing that would have been much appreciated. (Obviously this is a GR86, but it's Subaru engine)

  • @MarkJCarruthers
    @MarkJCarruthers ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think the oil pressure concern is not going to be a problem for public roads. Track speeds are where the problem starts.

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's always been my thought as well. A big reason why I wanted to get actual data on the street to back that thought up.
      I suspect I'll see low oil pressure situations on the track, like others have seen.

  • @goblinburgers
    @goblinburgers ปีที่แล้ว +3

    You can see dips during extended right turns but since your rpms aren't high the dips aren't anything aggressive, look forward to the track findings.

    • @matthewwain9958
      @matthewwain9958 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Looks to be around 10psi drop which isn't too bad compared to what we've seen on track from other testers. Definitely good to see data from the road, as I'm sure this gives people more confidence on buying.

    • @goblinburgers
      @goblinburgers ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewwain9958 I think anyone looking to buy a sporty car at the 30k price point should get a brz without second thought, it's those who wish to track these that may want to sit for a solution to arrive or look elsewhere given their budget. Tracking is an expensive hobby as it is, but potentially replacing an engine is a whole another beast.

    I watched a video from Ansix Auto where they go in to some depth about their experience with their BRZ. In their video they conclude that the Jackson racing cooler drops pressure and to remedy some of the oil pressure issues you could delete the stock heat exchanger. If it’s something you’d be interested in, I’d love to see you cover it in your DIY format.

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I saw that too, great video! But, just to clarify, they have the Jackson Racing radiator *and* oil cooler combo, not the standalone JR oil cooler like I have. I would like to test removing the OEM heat exchanger though, that was an interesting new development.

    Hello there, thank you for the video. Sorry for the noob question, just bought a BRZ and preparing a list of mods for going to a race circuit, is the oil temp something I can just fetch from the OBD (I mean the sensor is already there) or I need to have a similar sensor kit for the temp as well? Or may be this sensor (I mean the sensor from the video) also measures the temp and writes it to the OBD? Thank you so much for the answer.

      It depends what app or datalogger you are using. The CAN ID's are different when using the GJP IO box like in this video, to using the Ansix CAN OBD adapter like in a previous video.
      For GJP IO box they have all their CAN ID's here: www.geraldjustprojects.com/gjp-io-box-firmware/

    Are you happy with this logging solution? Or do you wish you went a different route? Currently looking at this as well.

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a cost effective DIY type of solution, yes, I think this is about as good as you can get. The GJP IO Box is the only thing relatively expensive (if you want oil pressure, otherwise not needed, Ansix adapter would be better/cheaper). The next step up would be something like an AIM SOLO2 DL which will set you back $800 just to get into it (+$$$ for camera(s), sensors, cabling).
      A lot of it is personal preference and needs though too. I need to be able to easily and quickly swap my data analytics package between my 2 cars and have the same process for race logging. Plus, I like that logging/reviewing/video overlay is all entirely within the RaceChrono app, I don't need a laptop or multiple apps/tools to create racing videos.
