Yes he did. An apt job of resembling that pompous peacock, just as apt as Imelda Staunton did playing Umbitch, and the late Alan Rickman did playing Severus Snape.
Dumbledore was extremely stupid to allow a wizard he knew wasn’t qualified to take up the post as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and it almost resulted in said teacher wiping the memories of both Harry and Ron. Not to mention that year especially they NEEDED a competent DADA teacher. But Dumbledore gives them Lockhart who all but advises they flash a smile at the bad guy. Smfh.

“Gilderoy Lockhart,” “Order of Merlin,” “Honorary Member of the Dark Force Defense League.” “Professor Dumbledore has granted permission to start this little dueling club,” “To train you all up,” “In case you ever need, to defend yourselves,” “Like I myself has done on countless occasions.”
I'm gonna be real, that's kinda sad gilderoy lost all his memory. Yeah he did try to erase Harry and Ron's memory and having to be treated like a two-year-old. This is quite stupid though.
I think it would have been interesting if he actually recovered his memories, but the 'from the outside' perspective he gained while being an amnesiac, combined with a new outlook from spending so much time as a simple and innocent person while befuddled for so long, would have caused him to basically have an epiphany and change of heart and actually re-learn the magical skills he had forgotten so long ago, becoming a courageous protector of innocents and battler of Monsters and Villains to make up for his past crimes. If asked why he has changed, he could answer "to be a Hero like Harry Potter." which I think would make a good full-circle moment.
I thought that the reason why his memory didn't came back was because he was actively denying his past. Like, he knew he was Lockhart at that time and readed his own books and propably believed he actually did these things. So, maybe his inner self fought against realisation that he was actually a fraud.
@@ondrejurban2634 Which is arguably even worse then knowing the truth that he is a fraud himself. He just gonna lived the life, thinking himself as this person who achieve many things, completely denying that he is just a fraud jerk which is made worse by the fact he get hit by the spell he ironically know well forever.
Lockhart is actually one of my favorite Harry Potter characters. As I read the second book, his personality intrigued me. It was obvious his accomplishments were false, and I was looking forward to learning his backstory of why this is. I was a bit dissapointed that he was simply Obliviated and his character wasn't explored much more. Despite this, I still enjoy his character a lot.
That is actually a very interesting view on Lockhart. I wish they had done more with him in the books. It would have been cool to see other things done with the character. I did however enjoy that they had a brief return to his character in one of the later books.
@Mr Pool I felt that way too, until I remembered that 1) he did that to himself and 2) he did that same things to so many great and innocent wizards beforehand, we just connect with Lockhart cause we didn't meet the other wizards
I always thought it would have been cool if after losing his memories, someone let him read his own books and since he didn't know that he wasn't the one who actually did all of that stuff, he basically tricked himself into becoming the great wizard everyone thought he was
Such a shame since it was a cherry wood wand with a dragon heartstring core that got thrown out of the window. Cherry wood wands with dragon heartstring cores also require their Wizards and Witches to have exceptional self-control and focus and are also prized among the Students and Faculty of Japan's Mahoutokoro School of Magic.

Hey, I am franch, and I started reading HP in English, for the moment i’m reading HP 2, so the fact that you make a video on Gilderoy comes right on time !! Discovered your vids 2 years ago, and you’re still improving !! I really love your Work, keep it that way, one day you’ll have the fame you deserve (starting in France, maybe ! =D )
The extra details about his background are really interesting! Many posters are commenting that if Lockhart had simply decided to write biographies of the amazing wizards who saved villages from werewolves, etc, instead of claiming their accomplishments for himself, Lockhart could have become a successful nonfiction writer. I never thought of that before.
Yeah, but too bad he is top egotistical that he have to take credit from others just so he can be famous and leaving the one who actually do it in the dust behind
i feel like his personality traits fit slytherin better. slytherins are ambitious, cunning, and clever in getting what they want. ppl say he was put in ravenclaw bc he was skillfull enough to find a way for him to be noticed with all the fame and etc, but tbh with all the shady stuff he's done just to stand out and get his dreams fulfilled of ppl paying attention to him, he seems more slytherin-like to me
Lockhart was a little more competent in the video games, teaching Rictusempra and Spongify (PC version) and Petrificas Totalus and Verdimillious Duo (PS1 version). Harry even acknowledges that by saying, “Well, I did learn something in Lockhart’s class, Rictusempra.”
The first time gilderoy's wand got throw out of the window was at a lesson The second time was with ron and harry because of his stubborness Dang will there be another time that gilderoy's wand get throw out of the window?
@@zara2820 I understand that and, as much as I loved Dumbledore, it's just a bit difficult to disregard that, sometimes, it appeared as though he was trying to satisfy his curiosity. Especially when you consider that, at some point, Dumbledore had all three of the Deathly Hallows and was (theoretically at least) the most powerful wizard. He could probably have gone further with defeating Voldemort.
Just shows why dumbledore has a dark past, he’s not above manipulating people, or using people, for the greater good. Dumbledore could very easily have become a villain, we see him as this old kind wise man, but really there’s a morally ambiguous guy who just so happens to turn to the light while grindlwald turn to the dark
Growing up, Chamber of secrets was and will forever be my favorite year in the series. And my favorite teacher is, yes, Lockhart. What a time to be at Hogwarts, year 2!
It's great to see this after requesting this. His story is so fitting to who he is and I feel that Kenneth Branagh played him perfectly. To think he would be been played by Hugh Grant.
Not such a simple mistake. 🤬🤔If Lockhart had succeeded, he would’ve obliviated Harrykins, and Ron, which would’ve led to the death of Ginny, and the resurrection of Voldemort two years early.😮😨
Now I honestly think that information about this character (GILDEROY LOCKHART) & other characters like him should deserve to have more information revealed about them, and that includes the 21 characters that weren’t in the movies; So I suggest that either a cartoon show series of (HARRY POTTER) gets made, or a live-action show series of (HARRY POTTER) gets made that could reveal all the important missing details about each character from the books stories.
Not to mention he’s got a really nice voice, there are other people who do explaining videos like this and honestly their voices are a tad annoying. MovieFlames voice is strong and you really feel his personal connection he has towards the stories and backgrounds. It’s made me go back and reread and rewatch some of the series he talks about. 😊
When Umbridge came around for her turn as DatDA teacher, I was actually longing for this guy, despite his cowardice, vanity, and delusions of grandeur. Hell, he would have left an innocent 11 year old girl to die to salvage his reputation, which was already in tatters thanks to his ineffectiveness at preventing the Basilisk from attacking the Muggle Born students. I bet not too many people think about that when counting the "sins against the Wizarding World" Lockhart has done. Kenneth Branagh made him iconic in the film version of Chamber of Secrets, and we didn't get to see him again at St Mungo's in the fifth one. It was a little scene in the context of things, but it would have been a helluva' cameo to see Branagh in a lilac colored robe, signing autographs with a peacock feather quill, in St. Mungo's.
This reminds me of the old chamber of secrets GBC rpg game. There was a section where you were accompanied by Lockhart and even though he technically had access to all spells at this point he would always throw signed photos at his opponents no matter which spell one chose😂

wait never mind. i still hate him.
mimi kitt well at least he’s not Umbridge

Honestly I wish that this character hadn’t been sorted into Ravenclaw. He’s an absolute disgrace to the house.
Kayla Pearl CP Ninja you need to be very smart to fool the entire Wizarding world. (Except Dumbledore of course)
I mean I have Voldemort in my house
AliTube Reviews and Unboxing’s!! And Harry Potter wasn’t fooled either.
At least Lockhart was better than Quirrell.
Well us slytherins had voldy in our very common room

I'm gonna be real, that's kinda sad gilderoy lost all his memory. Yeah he did try to erase Harry and Ron's memory and having to be treated like a two-year-old. This is quite stupid though.
He got karma for what he did.
One of the most satisfying scenes in the series : Lockheart - Snape duel!
ps: the end of Lockheart is pretty sad, though... dementia...
And being a result of poor parenting.
Snape: EX...

Kinda sad what happened to Lockhart at the end
Karma is a beautiful thing!!!
The memory charm was perfect karma for him, but the prelonged suffering like an ill puppy needing to be put down was just so sad to read about
@Mr Pool I felt that way too, until I remembered that 1) he did that to himself and 2) he did that same things to so many great and innocent wizards beforehand, we just connect with Lockhart cause we didn't meet the other wizards

I always thought it would have been cool if after losing his memories, someone let him read his own books and since he didn't know that he wasn't the one who actually did all of that stuff, he basically tricked himself into becoming the great wizard everyone thought he was
Plot twist would of been good character development
The skelt-gro potion she used for harrys bones to grow back was invented by a potter

Lockheart has had his wand thrown out the window a lot
Such a shame since it was a cherry wood wand with a dragon heartstring core that got thrown out of the window.
Cherry wood wands with dragon heartstring cores also require their Wizards and Witches to have exceptional self-control and focus and are also prized among the Students and Faculty of Japan's Mahoutokoro School of Magic.

If I am a student at Hogwarts and he said that, I would be like "Who TF care?!"
Lol imagine him vs Voldemort
Voldemort would lose.... all his memory
He’d run away like that News Reporter with that turkey that ran away when the owner of the animal handed it to him.
@Nieve Ruiter true
He would lost so bad
OBLIVIATE!!!
i feel like his personality traits fit slytherin better. slytherins are ambitious, cunning, and clever in getting what they want. ppl say he was put in ravenclaw bc he was skillfull enough to find a way for him to be noticed with all the fame and etc, but tbh with all the shady stuff he's done just to stand out and get his dreams fulfilled of ppl paying attention to him, he seems more slytherin-like to me
Lockhart was a little more competent in the video games, teaching Rictusempra and Spongify (PC version) and Petrificas Totalus and Verdimillious Duo (PS1 version). Harry even acknowledges that by saying, “Well, I did learn something in Lockhart’s class, Rictusempra.”
The first time gilderoy's wand got throw out of the window was at a lesson
The second time was with ron and harry because of his stubborness
Dang will there be another time that gilderoy's wand get throw out of the window?
I feel bad for Harry, constantly being used as bait by Dumbledore.
It was for good tho
@@zara2820 I understand that and, as much as I loved Dumbledore, it's just a bit difficult to disregard that, sometimes, it appeared as though he was trying to satisfy his curiosity. Especially when you consider that, at some point, Dumbledore had all three of the Deathly Hallows and was (theoretically at least) the most powerful wizard. He could probably have gone further with defeating Voldemort.
@@clairemhloli3937 oh yeah- he also used him for bait for Slughorn to come back to Hogwarts

They really have the thing for throwing Gilderoy's wand out the window
It's great to see this after requesting this. His story is so fitting to who he is and I feel that Kenneth Branagh played him perfectly. To think he would be been played by Hugh Grant.
Same with David Thewlis Who played Lupin was cast to play Quirel but IT was turn Down by Ian Hart
Oh well, it's so sad how he never got his memories back. Everything that could happen because of a simple mistake 😔
I think he would be the same jerk
God that’s the weirdest thing ever.
@@vivi.loves.kitties trust me, has more weirdness to face
Love all your vids! THANKS FOR THE LIKES!
Kevin M same
Kevin M agreed, I love the way he explains every detail he can
Yeah it's like he was the creator he goes so deep in thought.
I agree he sounds really moivated and he doesn't sound dull and annoying he is really fun!

Ahhhhh this pleases me on so many levels, and I recently was gifted the Gilderoy Lockhart pop figure
Me too bro!

The monster on the top right reminds me so much of Varan from the Godzilla series.

I think Kenneth Branagh should play the 14th Doctor or the 15th Doctor
Harry was lucky people knew his story or Lockhart would of stole his too
