Even in store!! I assume that a person can do it, return the car as an exchange and voilà! You find an error... you can ask yourself: why would someone do this for no profit? Answer: sadism! LOL

After two and a half decades in law enforcement, dealing with innovative a--holes, took its toll and I retired trusting no one.....and perhaps unfortunately, I passed that trait on to my kids! That said----as with coins, knives, stamps, comic books, old tools, antiques's----Caveat Emptor. Thank you so much for educating especially young kids----many of whom use hard-earned money to collect---and "older kids" who can learn as well. As for the A--holes out there considering doing this to make a "dime" off someone's ignorance? Street justice sometimes occurs. Not often....but sometimes.

They only sell for a lot, for example, if they are already a highly desired issue; the error enhances the desirability some, sometimes a lot. But the ones that are already cheap, the error only doubles or triples the value. Trust me, no one is getting rich on selling errors. "Kids to college" indeed. A couple of bucks is not worth a ruined reputation unless you are insane or desperate. That guy is a jerk

Tuff to watch this video being an error collector. I have purchased a few fakes myself. Odds are if someone is asking a lot for an error, it's probably fake. Or if the error seems to crazy to be true. Despite the risk of fakes, I still buy second hand but only from people I trust. Even in the best attempts, reglued blisters are still easy for me to spot in hand. In buying fakes I have learned how to better spot them for next time. Sad that people do this, and sad that real collectors have to make videos to call it out. Thanks for the video...

Nice video! I have a pretty big error collection from the mid-late 90s. Luckily, most of them were gifts from people who knew I collected them, so when I do sell them, I won't be trying to make any money off of them. I have a complete set of 1996 First Editions where each car is one type of error or the other. Most can't be authenticated, but a few can be rivet-authenticated.

Thanks! I have been subscribed to your channel for some time now and I appreciate your help to learn more about car's of my youth as well as current ones. I had not heard anything about error car's, but this is mostly nostalgic for me. Solomon's credited with the phrase there is nothing new under the Sun. You have reinforced those words! If something is expensive surely more of them will occur. Had you heard the story of a few gold coins produced after the US had ceased production in the 1930's something like 8 were made by unscrupulous mint workers and the Federal Government went to great lengths over the span of much time and got them back. I think that the story of Sysyphus is what those who purposely fake a defect deserve, instead of a lot of extra money.

I don't think so. It's like trying to find the TH and Super TH cars in stores. Although they're hard to come by but they can be found. I found a Flash Drive car with missing front wheels at work the other day in our dump bin. Besides who would really take the time to make the error so that it can be sold in a retail store?

By chance I came across your hot wheels video (I don't have an interest in them, nor do I collect, buy or sell them). It was an interesting expose on how some people manufacture fake product defects in order to sell that "special" product. I couldn' resist and had to check ebay. I found a corvette that was the same as yours except for the color and it was missing the tampo on the side, no doubt faked the same way you demonstrated.
There were other ones for sale with different "factory defects", all of which could have been created as you described.

So sad that this is really a thing, faking error cars. Seems there's corruption in all things. Me, I just try not to take things so seriously that I get caught up in things like "error cars" I just buy what a like brand new and hold on to them. I have a whole series of concept Camaros that I picked up as I saw them at a grocery store as well as a couple of 2006 Greenlight Barret Jackson sets I got at the auction that year. Maybe worth something someday but that's not why I have them, they're just kind of cool themed art to me. posted up on a cord board frame.

No Hispanics are Caucasian. That's why there are separate terms for them. Spanish people (people actually from Spain) and their descendants, on the other hand, if pure are not Hispanic but instead Caucasian. I actually know one such individual, and he takes offense when he's referred to as Hispanic. I didn't know that's how it was until he told me, and naturally I had to check it out. Now it a running joke between us when I call him white boy lol.

  • @sped6954

I've only ever purchased one "error" car. After watching this video, I'm not so sure it's authentic. It was a few years ago and the car was a green Twin Mill from the 2013 HW Workshop series advertised on eBay as an error missing the chrome on the right rear wheel. It turns out that it did have a little bit of chrome on it, maybe ¼" or so. I never looked closely at the packaging until after watching this video, but if it is a fraud, they did a really really really bad job of lining up the blister on the card as it overhangs the right edge of the card. But there's no evidence of residual glue on the left side and all the lettering and other graphics are perfectly aligned. Fortunately I only paid $3 for it so if it's not authentic, I'm really not out a whole lot. The way the graphics line up and the fact that it does have a little bit of chrome lead me to believe that it maybe is authentic, but as mentioned earlier, now I'm not completely sure.

Great Video. actually there is a way for the rivets to appear as untouched and to disassemble the while car. Used a Soldering iron which is at least 100 watts in power and place that on the rivet. this will make the rivet expand and make the plastic melt for you to disassemble the car. when you are done with the car, just clean the rivet whole and reheat the rivet to lock the chassis in place.

I didn't read every comment so I may be repeating something, but even changing the color of a windshield can be done. It's especially easier on zemac cars or black and dark colored cars. Once the car has been removed from the pack you car dip it upside down in some Rit dye making sure to completely submerge the clear plastic. The dye will "stain" the plastic and may also dye paint and tampos. Buyer beware.

I am putting this out now so DON'T BE DECEIVED!! I have an old 90's White Camaro with orange/red stripes White Wheels Convertible Red interior, that I am going to put into the new 50th Anniversary package just to try it, then its going in my garage with my others Hey! I like to say thanks for the info I have found some hot wheels with errors but I purchase them from retail stores. I just think they're cool. and to know that we're all human and we do make mistakes. the errors are just simple mistakes like one I have the car did not get ribbit. if you look at the car it look good but if you turn the package upside down the car comes apart. but like I said it's cool looking.

+Richard Richmond Don't get me wrong... if I see a mistake in a retail store I grab it too.. What I don't do is buy them second hand.. it is just to tempting and to easy to make them. However, I will happily buy other mistakes in other lines such as Greenlight... mistakes that are in tamper proof packaging. I completely agree with the human element to finding mistakes...it makes the hunt that much more enjoyable.

I have unpacked FairLady from 2018 series (blue one) but it has a error. Rear wheels are stucked, because car is lower than normal FairLady. Is this rare, when I have unpacked one? It is fail from factory, because there is no way to make bottom of a car pinned a bit more than normal.

I've found one error in the store. It was a convertible mustang with no windshield. What I find most commonly are packaging errors. I found one with the wrong car for the package and another with the car in it's blister backwards (I think I have one in the blister upside down as well). The neatest one I found is the car and what looks to be a small piece of plastic wrapper from what looks like was probably candy. It's got Asian writing on it, so I'm guessing as to what the piece of wrapper was from. Anyways, I don't know if it's just the repeated use of acetone as shown here, but the paper card looks waffered and wavy along the bottom edge where you applied the acetone. Of course I don't collect Hot Wheels nor do I sell them in any kind of collect to sell or trade type of thing. I buy the ones I like and any Treasure Hunts I find. If I see a car error or packaging mistake in the store I might buy it for the amusement factor. The ones I like the most go on the shelf. The others go in a box which my kids will have to deal with someday, LOL.
