Lmao yep that's how it is with about everything my son ask me all the time with his trading cards and I say the same quote and he gives me that blank lost stare
I never realized how collectable errors were in the past. But recently, I've noticed how much more unique errors can be. I skipped a Ken Block Fiesta missing the front wheels, but then I was told they were special so I drove back as quickly as possible to buy it! :D This video's helped me see the other possible errors to spot.
I was confused with my economics homework and so I decided to take a break and relax and watch some racegrooves and this video really helped me understand demand for products. Thank you so much!
Your right! Errors are only worth what someone will pay for them. A good example of that is that I saw a 2012 Super TH have a so called "major paint error" for sale on Ebay. I didn't think it was major, and the person was selling it for $175! I'm not suprised that nobody offered to buy it!
Finding that piece of fabric in the package happens from time to time. People think it's a band-aid but it isn't. Your Angry Birds piece is an awesome find! If you make a video of your Errors, you can post it as a Video Response to this Error video. It won't automatically post, I have to approve it.
That would be an ALW Error (All Large Wheels). That is an awesome piece for two reasons. It is on a Treasure Hunt release and it is on a fan-favorite model! As for how Rare, it is pretty rare. By the way, this video is one of the few where I allow Video Responses if people want to share their Errors. Remember, kid-friendly, be respectful, and try to keep it as short as possible.
I don't buy models with bent axles or with the wheels jammed under the fender anymore. It seems more like it's messed up rather than an Error but that's my perspective on the issue.
As I stated in the video, it's only worth what somebody would pay. With your car being a popular release, I would think that it would be worth more than the original purchase price.
Since they come from maylasia and someone makes a profit even at $1.00 each , I'm not shocked that quality control is about as reliable as a plumbers estimate . I had a summer job in a Plant that made bottled items and the job paid really well in 1974 . I spotted the odd bad plastic bottle and a chipped glass one right at the screw-on cap spot , there were even defective screw-on caps that would have just made it into the box for retail stores. The pay made me want to keep the job ........maybe some of the workers fear being seen as a malcontent pointing out minor issues when the Stores might catch serious error and treat like damage inventory and eat the loss.
Baseball cards & Pokémon cards are made with way huger profit margin, yet they still high standards with quality control. Though when either one of them have an error it’s worth allot more then a regular card.
Good talk. It's a shame that more and more people try to collect things for the monetary value rather than the joy of collecting. They think because it seems rare it's worth more money. But like you said, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay. Loving those T-buckets. They remind me so much of one of my all-time favorite castings, the Hot Heap!!
@Hotshotmech38 What was the error with the Shadow Jet? Errors that are more likely are bent front axles and the canopy over the driver's compartment is often loose or missing.
Collecting errors may be fun and people should do it if they enjoy it but spending a lot on them is not wise because it is so easy to open them, change things around and seal them up again with no way of telling.
You just have to judge the person your buying from .plus it's a lot of hard work for very little profit so can imagine there are a lot of people doing it .
I agree. There's no physical price guide on errors because errors are not planned by the company. So, if you come up to an error, make sure you found it, don't buy errors off eBay or someone you don't know because that error might have been orchestrated.
I have been collecting Hot Wheels cars (star wars and marvel) for probably 5 yrs now and i have about 100+ and i can tell you that i had NO clue that all hot wheels cars aimed to the right ... And as i look at each one, sure enough they ALL aim to the right ... And like you said, its only worth what someone is willing to pay for it ..
I would never buy an error car but I have found in stores and I did collect them then .... in 2000 it started happening “tampering” and it sucks. So I know that mine are 100% and I’m good with that ... thanks for the info
I was just schooled... I have been collecting for over 45yrs and I only collect what catches my eye. I never even knew about those "mistakes" that's very interesting..
Is there a quality control to correct the problem. Or, does Mattel just let them go to keep up profits up. The toy is only one dollar, but they are making so many they don't care about the quality of their product? When people buy defective products just lets them to improve their quality control. It's a big problem in Super Treasure Hunts. Allowing workers selling them on eBay. If Mattel doesn't take pride in their product how can collectors give more value on them? I love collecting Hot Wheels but should be in MINT conditions. Don't buy errors make them improve the quality. This is my opinion.
Most Hot Wheels are made in China or Taiwan...the standards are not as high as made in U.S.A. Many times, some parts outnumber the # of cars of any particular model. So left over parts can be and are used (waste not, want not). I collected variations because they were purposely produced...errors are also fun to buy, but it takes an avid collector to spot them. Like the guy said on the video, value is subject to what a person is willing to pay. I have well over a thousand HW...My collection will go to my daughter when I die...I have many rare variations and treasure hunts...I am hoping that when she reaches my age, she will be able to average $5.00 per car.
You would think that the person at the factory would notice the wheels and axles missing! But guess what, every Hot Wheels release still sells, with or without wheels LOL!
I previously bought a Mitsubishi Evo 10 with different wheel set from other Evos on the shelf. The front is red chrome ten spoke then the back is five spoke. I didn't plan to sell it but a collector offered me about $70 for it. He collects error cars and it's his first time seeing a mismatched wheel Evo 10 that's why.
I specialized in errors. ASW, ALW, missing tampos, fenders, etc. USUALLY if it`s a fake it does not "feel right" as soon as I inspect it. It even got down to using a 10x loop to inspect pixels on the card.
@Bangerkid45 Treasure Hunt Errors are most awesome! I opened up this video to accept Video Responses so if you do a showcase video on your Error(s), you can post it here.
Found a corvette c7r hw race team that had the front rivet double stamped so the front underside of the car is a bit mangled ,packaging is perfect. Interesting find.
I have a 2018 rally car HW DAREDEVILS 5/5 #04 with a bad red rear rivit it has the red bottom bent and pulled away from top card #FRR94-D7C3 STAMPED L26 multi language on back, if you would like it for your collection you can have it, just let me no I'll send it, thank you Sam martin
It dawned on me today for some reason that your ASW dealers choice Baja Bug looked familiar to me. Turns out the one I have also has the ASW error. Just to confirm it's supposed to have a big back wheel I ebayed it and low and behold it's supposed to LoL!! I bought it new and had it this whole time and I can safely say it's my first Error find!!!!! Thanks Groovy for da vid!!!!
I am not able to reply to every comment. I get over a hundred comments a day but I do reply to most of them. As for your Errors, congrats on finding Mixed Wheel Errors. They are favorites of mine!
Thanks for this Racegrooves. I have a few errors myself and LOVE finding and collecting them, I agree that they're only worth what the buyer will pay but the "cool factor" has to play into it. I'd love to show you the few I have but I'm a complete novice at making and posting videos. I have the yellow 458 Lamborghini with two windshields - a blue corvette grand sport that didn't get snapped in the back all the way - a flipped around real rider porsche - a gold delorean with a missing hatch.
Package error- a chevy pickup set a a peculiar angle as if the card was angled on the line. Peg reinforcement even offset. Didn't even notice till I got it home.
@Nerflover787 I wonder if the tape in the package was to mark a defective car but I don't see anything wrong with the car. But maybe it just got stuck to the car before it got stuck in the package LOL. You're welcome for being a subscriber =)
I got one that’s upside down when I was youngI took it out of the box 😕 I have another one that’s put together crooked and it’s pretty funky I also took that one out of the box 🤦🏻♀️ now I wish I would of left them because they would be worth good money
Just bought a Hot Wheels, from 2005, from Goodwill that has no bottom, no insides, and no wheels... it's basically just an outer shell with nothing else... not sure if it's worth much but I'm willing to bet it doesn't get found that often!
And of course, I also see cars w/random wheels missing paint every now and then. My first sighting of the current HW Exotics 5-pack was at a Walgreens, and noticed that the right front wheel on the Lotus was unpainted. When I went back a week later (to check for Maisto restocks or THs), it was gone. 5-packs are pricey at Walgreens, so I'm pretty sure that it either went to an error collector or someone who thought they could make money off of it (in the case of the latter, good luck to them)
I saw the most crazy error ever, i saw a white zotic and its window was like totally messed up, it looked like it was melted, and in addition to that, its blister looked like it was too large, it was larger than the other ones. So I bought it. I also had a car (forgot what it was called) where it had 2 5 spoke wheels, a 5 dot wheels and a pr5 wheel. That one was wierd...
So I just found a Miata in a Stinger branded box, and I picked up both the stinger and miata in their original packaging's. Would they be worth anything?
0:57 11 years after this video was uploaded, i learned that Matchbox cars are packaged left and Hot Wheels are packaged Right and i honestly never noticed until now.
My favourite error in my collection is a 2001 #191 Ferrari F355: it's got the roof tampo but it's completely missing the hood tampo, though I only found this out after I got home and looked it up to see what the car was worth. (I bought it in 2011, so it was already 10 years old.) Weirdest error: a 2011 HW series Olds 442 which has a square cloth of fabric attached to it. I also recently found a red Angry Birds car with no front wheels.
I never noticed until you pointed it out that the Matchbox cars face left and the Hot Wheels to the right. I have one error: Matchbox Volkswagen T2 with a missing window unit. Sealed in the original package and i bought it new from the shop.
errors are my fav to collect because when people go after the t-hunts they skip over some that that can be a true 1 of 1. one of my strangest error is a winner's circle race car that one of the wheel axles weren't flared all the way so one of the wheels are lose in the package
In 2023 people have ruined errors bcuz 90% can be counterfeited. What someone may know is legit bcuz they got it from a sealed case, could be questionable by someone who doesn’t know that person. The base on backwards with posts intact is legit, another is missing interior (depending on casting). I got a 84 Vette from the 80s series that’s missing the entire interior, which on the 84 Vette is impossible to take entirely out without drilling the casting out. It form the door panels and rear lights. Also it keeps the casting off the wheels. Plus I got it out of a sealed case at Walmart. I don’t collect for monetary reasons so it’ll never leave my collection.
Can I have your opinion if the Soo Fine I have that has its top resting on the bottom of the car (top/bottom reversal, poetic) inside the blister an error. Some guys in the HWC forums thinks it's not. I think it is.
A more recent example: I was looking at me and my brother's Gotta Go car, and I realized something was wrong. On a normal Gotta Go, the seat moves up and down as the car rolls; on our Gotta Go, you have to move the seat manually. I think it has the wrong set of rear wheels (Regular 5-Spoke (5SP) instead of the Modified 5-Spoke (M5SP) it's supposed to have). Of course, that's just my guess.
I love collecting errors, especially if they are mis matched wheels, loose motors and if they are not riveted to the base.Since it's easier for me to customize them and use their parts for other cars c:
where did you find the green gallardo. i have for gallardos 1 white whit red stripes (speed machine) 2 gray whit orange stripes and 1 blue white gold stripes (same designe as the grey onces). do you sell the green galardo on KIJIJI. i am ready to pay the same amount as the speed machines which i recall was 3 or 4$.
Hi Mr. RaceGrooves, I am a new subscriber and enjoy videos. I am a Hot Wheels car acquirer, I open everything, because I play with my cars not easy to play with packages, I recently found a Treasure Hunt Stockar and got it home and was looking at it, I noticed the rear was not riveted flush so I didn't open it. Great job on your videos. I enjoy the track-time videos the most.
I own one really weird error car... It's a green Mitsubishi and it has three small wheels and one slightly bigger wheel (there's supposed to be 4 small ones). Also, the back wheels are kinda squished into the car so they dont turn at all. I got the car as a kid and remember being so disappointed haha!
funny thing about the cars flipped over in the package because I was just at walmart and there was a hotwheels 1968 dodge charger that was upside down AND backwards in the pack right next to one that was packaged correctly
@z1546796 That's why I have to keep my Errors separate because! Otherwise, I might open it up as a regular car... Congrats on the gem that you didn't know that you had!
I don't really collect errors, but if I see one that looks pretty cool, I'll probably buy it (like the white HW Racing 57 Chevy I recently picked up that had all large wheels). Most of the errors I see just have messed up paint, tape or paper in the package (or in the case of a Challenger Drift Car, jammed in the back window), or messed up bases or wheels. Saw a '62 Mustang concept with large PR5s in the rear (and the correct wheels in front) a few months back, which I kind of regret passing up.
Today's lesson is "How much are they worth"! Only wat' sum one is willing to pay! 😂😂 thx for sharing
Lmao yep that's how it is with about everything my son ask me all the time with his trading cards and I say the same quote and he gives me that blank lost stare
Sure. At the very least he could've looked at sold comps and let us know instead of the canned answer everyone gives.
Thank you for continuing to saying that it is only worth what someone is willing to give for it
I never realized how collectable errors were in the past. But recently, I've noticed how much more unique errors can be. Hey, but don't go to your teacher and tell him how an error can be a potential mark-up on a product! 😂
@@manoman0 loooooolllll!!
My cousin has one with a missing door lol, only the plastic is there
Yes! mis-matched wheels are one of my favorite errors as well. As for customizing them, I keep them in the package =)

RaceGrooves Race through
so when i have yellow miata with piece of yellow paint stuck in the plastic box, is worth more than regular one? or it doesnt matter in this place
How old r u
Reversed bases are awesome finds!
Ya! But I don’t have one:/
I only have missing tempos on one

Not true. The packaging will tear when you open it and you can't hide the damage when resealing.
There is a way to open the card without tearing it, search: "How to counterfeit errors" and you'll see what i mean.

You just have to judge the person your buying from .plus it's a lot of hard work for very little profit so can imagine there are a lot of people doing it .
bro, people use accitone to open the car and then air dry it to put it back together.
@ferrarifan9102 No-Tampo Errors are excellent finds - Congrats! Wait, it was on the left side? So did you have to open it up to find the Error?
That's a nice conversation piece to show your friends and fellow collectors.
I just found my first Hot Wheels error, i was so exited.
I agree. There's no physical price guide on errors because errors are not planned by the company. So, if you come up to an error, make sure you found it, don't buy errors off eBay or someone you don't know because that error might have been orchestrated.

@WILDARMHORN Most Hot Wheels models do not have side-view mirrors. The Delorean doesn't have them either.
Race grooves are the chevy Avalanche hard to find?
I don't think that the Avalanche is currently available from any of the diecast brands. Last year, Mattel had a pink version.
Treasure Hunt Errors are pretty cool!
I imagine that there are a few Dirty Outlaws that made it out without the top.
@MrDaleJr2011 Yes, I would agree. It would be hard me to get my buck back if I were to resell it.
i just found an error in one of my cars after watching this video

Yes, values are based on what somebody is willing to pay. Certain models and errors will definitely be more collectible than others.

hi if the cars back is not drilled in properly and the whole bottom part is side ways is that an error?
it’s a ford mustang ‘07 btw
Is it still in the package?
@Bangerkid45 Treasure Hunt Errors are most awesome! I opened up this video to accept Video Responses so if you do a showcase video on your Error(s), you can post it here.
after all these years still helpful, thanks a lot
@eatpogs I am glad to hear that you two are happy and busy :)
Found a corvette c7r hw race team that had the front rivet double stamped so the front underside of the car is a bit mangled ,packaging is perfect. Interesting find.
Hey race grooves I have an error i bought a matchbox 9 pack and there was a hot wheel car 😂😂😂😂
Weirdly Daily, that’s not an error, people replace the cars and return them, I see that all the time

I have a question I bought a Hot Wheels 70s Chevelle SS that has a bent axle does that mean is has an error or is that just something else
Hello, yes, Arapahoe2012 is correct. I do not sell or trade. Please search eBay for people willing to sell their cars.
@Nerflover787 I wonder if the tape in the package was to mark a defective car but I don't see anything wrong with the car. But maybe it just got stuck to the car before it got stuck in the package LOL. You're welcome for being a subscriber =)
No. It was a 2007 new model, It was also few years ago when I was not that involved, and so I did not notice the "error".
If the paint smeared on both sides, I don't care. It's a cool symmetrical paint job on the '71 Challenger, so "win-win"
Good showing Mark. have a few myself but don't go crazy after it, thanks for taking your time to show us all those pieces.

I have one in the blister where the rivet was pushed up through the bottom to through the base into the hood.
If you have an Error, you can post a video response to this video!
Hey Racegrooves I have a 1985 Honda city turbo 2 error where it got a silver five spoke wheel instead red disc wheel.
Error box ? racegrooves ?
Liam Casey I have a Gotta Go with some dirt in the bowl. It looks like someone forgot to flush
I love collecting errors, especially if they are mis matched wheels, loose motors and if they are not riveted to the base.Since it's easier for me to customize them and use their parts for other cars c:
I once bought one with a bandaid in it😂😂 I thought its pretty gross but funny
It’s not a bandaid. it’s for when they put body on. It is stuck in and Is rarely forgotten to take out but is funny to find
You've done it again Mark! Great job and thank you...
where did you find the green gallardo. i have for gallardos 1 white whit red stripes (speed machine) 2 gray whit orange stripes and 1 blue white gold stripes (same designe as the grey onces). do you sell the green galardo on KIJIJI. i am ready to pay the same amount as the speed machines which i recall was 3 or 4$.
"maybe somebody will pay an extraaa... Something" 😂
Your tone in this video is hilarious. But it's true. Awesome video brother, keep it up 👌
Have you seen one without front wheels in a 5 pack? I have one if interested
Nice find but I am not interested in acquiring it.
A happy, busy life! Mrs Pogs and I are still watching!
I'm glad that you are enjoying the videos. Enjoy your cars too!
I own one really weird error car... It's a green Mitsubishi and it has three small wheels and one slightly bigger wheel (there's supposed to be 4 small ones). Also, the back wheels are kinda squished into the car so they dont turn at all. I got the car as a kid and remember being so disappointed haha!
i found one packaged sideways, showing the underbody. It was a chevy monte carlo
funny thing about the cars flipped over in the package because I was just at walmart and there was a hotwheels 1968 dodge charger that was upside down AND backwards in the pack right next to one that was packaged correctly
@dismaldog She's right. We are silly =) Cool find!
Good content, educational for would be collecters. In theory everything that could be sold is only worth what somebody is willing to pay.
