    I purchased the same identical vehicle 3 weeks ago off of Craigslist for 1200 bucks I can honestly say these vehicles are very dependablethe only real issue I had with his vehicle was just the rear brake pads which is nothing other than that it gets me to and from work everyday I highly recommend these vehicles for anyone looking to buy one

    Whether or not this thing is the prettiest is subjective. I would argue so. I mean look at the design. It has aged extremely well. I love this car.

      @Fabrice null I love in southern California, snow isn't an issue at all, I also decided not to lower it, and now I'm leaving toward a one inch lift and bf ko2 to go on some Baja California adventuress...

    The owner's comments pretty much summed up the reasons I still drive my 98 legacy outback. The car just works and works well. It's very practical. Oh...and I'm also rocking the cassette tape adapter with the original radio.

    This video is probably my favorite of yours, because 1) it's a 2003 Foz 2) I'm over all the new model car "reviews," which are really just ads. Just so refreshing to see vids of older cars.

    This video was the deciding vote on my purchase of a used 2003 manual Forester. There is no rust bc it came to MN from TX Glad I saw this video!!

    Michael, you lower 2wd's not 4wd's. I had an 02 WRX wagon. I refused to lower it when people said it needed stanced. That thing was awesome in the snow. You would just lose traction for a fraction of a second. Then right into secure grip and control. I just bought an 04 manual Forester. I cant wait for the first snow.

  • @howardkerr8174

    I am in the process of buying an 04. I thought that I knew a fair amount about Subarus but decided to try to find a good written review a few hours ago. I found a Forester review, an 03, online that was published by CAR&DRIVER magazine. According to the article (though they don't say it) the 03 Forester is about as fast (SLOW?) as a later model PRIUS. Unless you get the XT, a Forester is SLOWER than a Fiesta...it has to be as the Fiesta weighs less. But the Fiesta does not have AWD and it doesn't have the load capacity that the Subaru has, which are the reasons why I am buying mine.
    BTW, several Japanese branded cars have that "oddball" cruise control setup, I had a Nissan/Infiniti G20 that had the same on/off cruise button.

    Buy a first or second Gen Forester in good shape for a few thousand, install a quality multilayered head gasket, and you're good to go!

    Is this prone to HG failure? What’s the recommended interval for the timing belt?

    • @salspec3381
      @salspec3381 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From what I understand all the SOHC's EJ's seem to have a risk of HG failure. I just picked up an 04 2.5X. The HG on the driver's side is leaking coolant. Timing belts need to be done at around 100k miles. I'm doing both since this car is at 103k. I'm going to upgrade to turbo hg's too. Apparently they're better.

      @@salspec3381 any update?

    • @salspec3381
      @salspec3381 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well this project got backburnered. I actually just had a chance to get back to it. The block was badly coked up so headgaskets turned into a rebuild. The machining on the heads and block got done in the last two weeks and I just picked up the last of the engine parts today. I plan on getting the engine back together soon, but it will be a little while before I can get it back on the road. In addition to turbo headgaskets I also got arp studs so I don't see any potential HG issues.
