Hello scotty please answer my question I live in Israel i have Suzuki swift I have problems with it stutters and shots of when i stop or pushing the gas pedal... they did throttle clean and it doesn’t worked Mu biggest problem is with this car shop not mu car problem now the big question I see the wash the cars engines with hose!!! Is it good can it make problems to the electric stuff in the engine??? Cus if so im going to do some big shaming on this car shop
@@shayeladshayelad2416 try a fuel pressure regulator sensor or some new injectors and if it still doesn't work for a new mass air flow sensor and if it randomly keeps shutting off you could have a crapped out camshaft sensor
Scotty, thanks for covering Subaru objectively! I have a 2007 Subaru Outback XT. It has a little over 150 thousand on it, and besides a small oil leak that I need to track down, it does fine, and has good power. Heck, I still don't loose more than a quart between oil changes. I love your videos, and hearing from a fellow car guy that has proper experience and influence. Keep it up, brother.
@Mark Codiroli I never said anything about washing off a motor so I'm curious as to where you got that out of what I said and yes washing a motor off is pretty stupid that can cause electrical issues
I have had three Subaru’s one was a 2007 forester all great cars. My forester had 157000 miles. Alas it died early death. Cause teenitis . No not tendinitis. Translation my teen totaled it.
I glad Scottie is talking about the Subaru. I have lived in my house for 20 years and I have seen my neighbor with the same white Subaru the entire 20 years .I know she bought that car used. That car amazes me. The old Subaru's run very well. Good video from Sacramento
I just bought a 1998 forester for $750 and a 1990 ford probe for $750 package the probe is a v6 with 125k in perfect condition the subaru 160k runs like me I hope they last me
Idk man, I had the one in this video .. the seats were stiff and the interior looked like cardboard 🤣 .. but im sure the sporty ones are pretty sexy .. especially with the manual trans 😍
@@joemdee my comment was two comments lol.. 1) I had this Subaru in particular, and it definitely wasn't as comfy as sweatpants lol .. and 2) some Subaru's are badass and sexy .. like the S209 😍 .. which many men AND women find sexy. @@zv1564 I drive 2007 Forester xt (2.5L) I had the same car 2003 and 2005. Leather seats, panoramic sunroof. Serious grunt. What’s not to like? This is a different kind of sexy. For serious studs. Car is faster than a Porsche Boxster....and you don’t need to be bald to drive it like with a Porsche. Lol
Thank you for covering the benefits of Subaru Scotty. I had a 2005 Forester that had 220k on it with the original engine and transmission when I sold it. Key thing is maintenance on these. I’ve had six Subbys and will only buy Subaru.
I have a 2003 Forester that I purchased new and have kept maintained. 240,000 miles on it. I've had to replace the timing chain, head gaskets and catalytic converter. Gone through 2 clutches over the years. But thats it, still runs great and I'd drive it nearly anywhere even today. Reliable as hell. Best car I've ever purchased.
I love my 2005 Subie Outback, easy to repair. Great for camping, boring as crap. A lot like me. 250k miles, just maintenance issues and 20 plus mpg... and no payments.
I just woke up and you gave me my first laugh of the day saying this " I love my 2005 Subie Outback, easy to repair. Great for camping, boring as crap. A lot like me ".
@ it's got a little bit of rust in the back left wheel arch and one of the exhaust pipes got rusted away but I jerry rigged it and now instead of dual exhaust now I have a single exhaust pipe... other than that there is little rust
@@breadnaut3087 Maybe bad wordage on my part. I didn't purchase it with 250000 miles on it, I added that on. I got it with 180000 miles for 3000. $3000 for a newish awd car in CT is hard to come by.
My 2008 forester was driven hard all the way up to 205k miles. Towards the last 15k I had these problems, valve cover leak (common), fuel injector leak (common), head gasket leak (common), pcv hose leak (maintenance). It still runs great and drives great. I've recently parked it to build it out to a fun rally build and put a motor with under 65k and a manual trans swap so I can run it hard up to 200k all over again. Nothing has the emotional attachment of a subaru, in my opinion of course
I have a 2003 Subaru Outback with over 200,000 miles, it still runs great! My 1999 Mercury Cougar with 120,000 miles is stuck in park and sits on the drive way.
I got 98 Forester with 220000 miles and it runs great! This is my first car and i learned how to work on cars on this machine and thanks to Scotty also. Winter is coming so its gonna be fun :)
I just bought 2005 forester with 116k on it for $4500.00!! No regrets. Its clean and straight. And I go to work before the snow plows are out. Now I also have peace of mind.
Actually the parts used in the assembly of the Subarus built in Indiana (Subaru of Indiana Automotive) come from all over, not just Japan. A large percentage are made in America with some from Japan, Mexico, Canada and other countries. Most body panels (larger ones) are blanked & stamped on site at SIA with some smaller body parts coming from suppliers, mostly in Indiana. All of the interior parts for the Ascent, Legacy, Outbacks & Imprezas are made in Indiana with the exception of some Ascent parts, they are made in Missouri. The seats, shocks, struts, axle shafts, wheel bearings, exhaust pipes, mufflers, front and rear subframes, brakelines, AC pipes, some of the wheels, headlights & taillights are also made in Indiana. Are you starting to see a theme here? The engines are assembled at SIA using parts from Japan, Indiana & other states. SIA is currently building a transmission assembly facility to also build them on site. Over the years SIA has used or still uses parts from Germany, China, South Korea, Ireland, Australia, Thailand and about anywhere else in the world, just like every other auto maker. SIA uses some of the same suppliers here in the states that Ford, GM, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes, BMW and others use or have used. I worked at SIA for over 31 years. The last 22 years in supplier quality assurance so I am quite familiar with the Subaru cars built in Indiana. Fun fact, we have companies here in the states that make parts for SIA and Subaru Japan. So there are Subarus built in Japan using a few US made components.
Thanks to Scotty, I replaced my neighbor thermostat in his 08 Honda Civic. 400k miles and still running. Took me about a half hour. My neighbor was shook when I said it’s on the house. He said he was quoted $175. He bought the stat for $10 at autozone. Plus some extra blue Honda coolant I had laying around. Lol
I have a 2018 Forester, bought in Oct 2017. It's a nicely equiped premium package with the 2.5 L engine. I bought it for $27.5K. The KBB private sale price 5 years later is $26K. I have had zero issues with this car, though it does have low mileage. This is my third Subaru with no serious issues. BTW, I live in western MA where we get lots of snow. My street has 40 houses and half of those are Subaru owners.
I have a 2002 Outback with the 2.5 4 cylinder and 4 speed automatic I picked up six years ago and I love it. I'm in Florida and it spent most of it's previous life here as an old lady's car and now has 136K miles on it. Folks have discovered that it's not just snow these cars are good in, they do well in sand as well and there's plenty of that here.
As someone who lives in Minnesota I love Subaru! It's always handled well in the snow and been reliable. I take it in every 3,000-4,000 miles for maintenance. Haven't had a single major issue and it's at 250,000 miles
I had a 2012 subaru impreza 2.0 4cyl w/ 125k miles on er. I live in Northern WV and I'd drive 3hr round trip for my commute to work everyday for 3 years. I drove in every single winter storm from 2017-2019. About 90miles to get on location with 30miles being back roads. That car was a TANK! One day after a snowstorm one of the backroads had been closed so I took a dirt road that my GPS said would take me around to were the closure had ended. Well it actual took me down a muddy, icy 4 wheeling type of path... somewhere I would off road with my jeep with. Not my freakin subaru LMAO. But the "road" was so narrow and the ruts were like 8 inches high. Couldn't turn around and it was going up hill. The condition of the path got worse... best way I can describe it is, someone tried to fill in those ruts with large gravel. Looked like baseball sized rock coated mud pyramids, that's how high/deep these ruts where. So... couldn't stop... couldn't turn around. Had to floor it up the hill and the horrible sound of the rocks scraping... I thought it must have ripped my bumper off. But the impreza pushed throw it without any issues. When I stopped to check after I got back to the road.. the scraping was all on my plastic skid piece underneath the engine. So I guess I basically the things are incredible.... It sticks to the road.
@@liberals_destroy_everythin2497I should have been more clear. It was the last year I worked in the field, was 1h20min each way. The locations werent much closer before at an hour or 50min. But better than practically 3. And if I'd been a single man. I'd probably stay ina hotel. Its about 325/week just todo that or 65/ish a night. It was in a rural area. I honestly got used to the drive home each day quicker than I thought. But mainly I wanted to see my daughter and wife for a couple hours before leaving. I never had issues with falling asleep while driving 5pm - 5am usually 6 days/week until my schedule changed to 2weeks on n 2 off during the last year. Which made the commute so much easier even tho is was a bit longer..
subarus are great, the inside doesn’t rattle and fall apart like toyota’s. The bumper doesn’t chip, crack and fall off like toyota’s. A lot of pros. The paint stays on great too
So true! I was in a brand new Camry. Very disappointed, the rattles and squeaks was unreal. Found the very same thing in a virtually new Rav 4 also. No coincidence!!
"Who knows. You might turn into a mechanic and make a lot of money on the side". That was a great statement. Seems once you start working on vehicles and equipment it's a never ending task of maintaining and fix. Labor of love. When it's your own and you get to use what you fixed. It certainly is rewarding.
Bought one of those for my grandaughter. Best winter car around. Besides the best awd system it came with heated seats and mirrors. Special defrost in the windshield to de-ice the wipers and also rear sideglass defrosters. Rides way better than anything else i've driven with that wheelbase. The flat four(boxer) engine gives the car a lower center of gravity. Also has great visibility. Very practical car for the price especially in the great white north
I love my 5 speed 2012 Forester. Be careful about using the windshield de-icer when when it's really cold. My brother had an older (2000ish) Forester and used the de-icer one cold morning and it cracked his windshield.
I sold my 2018 Jeep Renegade and bought a 2006 Subaru Outback. It needs a little work but the AWD is more grippy than my Jeep was in 4LO and the suspension is tighter. Just feels more quality even at 180K miles
My 2010 Forrester is the best car I've ever owned. She has 210k miles on her and the only thing I've had to do is oil changes and brake pads. I don't see needing a new car for another 10 years.
I picked up a used 2009 Forester X auto in Melbourne Australia, from a car wrecker of all places. Had 279,000km on it. Just gave it a oil change and new tyres. Got a permit for it to drive to Nth Qld, some 3300km towing a 17 foot euro caravan it made it (was a 1150kg van so inside our legal tow requirements) Made it on our shocking flood damaged roads also adding a extra 500km on the trip due to road closures. Not something I would ever recommend but the old 4 speed auto did it easy, would never try it with a CVT auto or any type.
My grandma is 78 years old and driving this car! She's starting to get to that age where she should stop driving, so I am finally gonna learn how to drive (at age 25) and adopt her car to be her chauffeur (+ go on car camping adventures with my dog!). It seems like a very solid and reliable first car for the Northern Norwegian climate I'm in! Thank you for making this informative video :D
@@sergioherrera3029 having both those issues right now.. man it drinks oil.. cant go 3k miles without being empty.. oil guzzler 😆 rod knock doesn't take long after I realize I'm already low on oil. @@gickygackers breh it’s the safest engine because the pistons are at the bottom and Subaru angles the engine to go Below the passenger floor board instead Of straight at them in a head on collision
One of the main reasons that Forester held up well despite the high mileage is the fact Subarus were still using regular automatics back then before they switched to CVTs.
I'll upgrade my 2011 Forester when it dies (155k mikes now) with an 2016 manual for sure, even if it's lacks tech, all that is secondary. now I want a car that has less sensors so I can drive in peace lol and keep maintaining and fixing myself. Same FB25 engine they using on 2021 turbo sport Crosstrek. So I will turbo that engine for sure later if I can. Would be the perfect car but hard to find with premium upgrades, I really like the rear spoiler look.
I bought a 2002 Subaru Legacy Outback with 56,000 miles on it and have had it for 20 years! it's only got about 119,000 miles on it now. did change the timing belt and head gasket a few years ago and it's still going strong.
I hated Subaru until I moved to a ski mountain in Vermont. Don’t even use snow tires in winter and my forester tracks in the snow better than any other car I’ve owned. Problem is rust. And the 2000s 2.5 liter blow head gaskets every 60-80k.
My 1995 has 350713 miles is still driving like the day it was made. Just had it inspected today. Have never touched the all wheel drive system. Or any bushings. I live in Rhode Island we get lots of snow. I can’t kill this car at all. My have some wheelwell Rot but Dosent matter it’s all surface rust. I hated Subaru till I acually drove one for a few years
2005 back when the head gasket was redesigned the first time and some of the problems were eliminated. In 2010 they redid the design again and the problem was essentially eliminated. I have a 2013 Legacy with 110,000 and no problems at all with the five speed automatic. Live in CT, a top 10 state by far for Subaru.
@@Yellow-Rose On some models that is true. Starting with the redesigned Legacy in 2010 it replaced the poorly designed head gasket on the EJ engine with the improved FA, FB, and more recently the CB engine (2020).
You just can't poop on a 4 cylinder subaru. Those things are reliable, practical, will never leave you stuck in winter, allows you to drive like there's no snow on the roads, gives you some off road fun and they're good on gas. What more would anyone want? Sure petrol heads may say "durrrr more HP bro" but what's the point of having 4, 5 or 600+ horsepower when you can't use all the power without getting your license taken away?
My 2004 Subaru WRX Wagon is now at 235k miles. Finally had to replace the original manual transmission (clutch) at 230k miles. Had to replace the radiator at 192k miles. Other than those two things, I've done only regular maintenance and the car runs like new. Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned! And it's FUN to drive!
Take care of any car brand and they should go a good while. I know several people with Subarus, within 11 years over 200k, a few older ones over 300k. I don’t pay attention to the comments that can’t handle that Subarus are great cars……just Subaru envy 😂😂💩
My father has 2016 Subaru Forester with a manual transmission and it is the car I learned to drive on. I hated driving it because it was girly and the stick shift was hard to learn at age 16. But my god this car is reliable and the all wheel drive is top notch. It’s at 125,000 miles and could go for another 100,000 no problem. These are cars that are built to last
I've always loved Subarus. My dad owned one when I was a kid. I loved that little 4wd button on his gear shifter he'd let my brother and I press when we were about to drive on a mountain road. But hearing Scotty dog them, I've been wary to get one. But if there's some that pass the Scotty Killer test, I'd get it. Lol
In 2021 I bought an ‘05 Forester (2.5 L) with 114,000 km on it for CDN $1,100. Great condition, barely used, no complaints, except for the Check Engine lite and flashing Cruise Control lite, so I changed the O2 sensor on the pipe. It worked for about a month, until the instant I finally hit the highway. These lites came back in the second I stomped on the accelerator for my road trip.
2006 forester XT was one of my favorite cars to drive. Fun as hell in the winters in Michigan. Drove it to 220,000 miles with little drama. Burned a little oil but that's about it. Keep an eye on your oil level!
2009 and 2010 are years to avoid for foresters or any subaru with the 2.5 engine. DONT BUY THESE YEARS USED!!! The only exception is late 2010 with the pzev (cvt) transmission, the issues were fixed by then. Head gaskets failed often and the same trans from a car that weighs 700 lbs less and has half the drag coefficient was used in the forester SUV.
I drive hundreds of miles per week for work year round. That means I’m out in heat, rain, offroad, and snow. My 2017 Impreza gets me anywhere I need to go, any time I need to get there. I’ve gotten caught out in blizzards and ice that left vehicles stranded on the side of the interstate and I kept acceptable traction cruising past them. As a car, it seems unimpressive. It looks like a regular sedan and it takes 13 seconds from 0-60, but that car never breaks down (because the small engine is too weak to hurt itself), always performs, has plenty of room, and gets 27 mpg with awd. It is the best car I’ve ever owned.
That pretty much sums them up. If you want a durable, reliable car to get you there, get a Subaru. If you need speed or something flashy then get something else. I love my old subies because they just go.
My 02 Outback wagon has 314k miles, and has the H6 engine. No problems with the engine or transmission. The H6 engines don't have the head gasket problems that the 4 cylinder ones do.
I just use whatever synthetic oil is on sale. I have a varsity of different ones in the garage. Maybe yours has an upgraded head gasket and you’ll be OK. Subaru made an “open deck” design for their engines which made them more prone to head gasket failures. For some cars (WRX) they made a different style which didn’t have issues. For fuel, I just use any particular one, I don’t stick to one particular gas station brand. My car will rust away before I hit 400k miles...It’s a 2000 and Illinois winters haven’t been nice to it.
Scotty, you finally drove a Subaru. WOW, you finally now like a Subaru. My wife's 2017 Subaru Outback is the best car for what it was made to do. We live in a hilly region in snowy CT.
I got an '02 forester, 5-speed manual, and i love it, got it for $775. It was one of the first made in 07/2001 and has most of the luxury options, heated seats, cruise control, and a huge sunroof. Just some rust in the rear fenders, i fixed everything else
my '98 suby with ej20,122cv, with 5-speed and reduced gearbox, has 650,000km or 403,000 miles on its shoulders and is still perfectly efficient ... it climbs everywhere ... it never left me on foot ... it has me always brought everywhere and always brought home! how to say .... old but not obsolete!☝️ mine is a boy not a girl!😎 A hug from Italy ! Watching your videos is fun!🇮🇹
Wow! Mine I bought at 348,000km and it now has 356, head gasket was replaced and newer clutch and I daily drive it about 80km daily. No issues so far. 2000 forester manual 5 speed
2005 Forester, hands down the best vehicle I ever owned (50 years). Lost it due to catastrophic timing belt blowout at high speed, had 230,000 miles on it
Bought a 2008 Forester in New Zealand made in Jp's right-hand drive. 165k km drive train is solid. Impressed with the build, size and ride. A great option for taller drivers. More room than a Lexus 350. All wheel drive is fabulous on Aucklands winding back roads. Great car!
I own a 04’ Outback. Same EJ motor as that Forester. At 110,000 had to replace head gaskets. $2500. Very common problem on that EJ25 motor. Then you do timing belt and water pump. Other than that, normal maintenance, and it’s a reliable car. Up north the rust comes through the drivers side rear fender for some reason. But, there are a lot of older ones still on the road. I love my slow, little rusty, always trusty Subie.
From someone that had a 2013 outback 3.6 and a 2014 outback 3.6. They do tick but once you use a good high quality synthetic its better. I drive mine like I stole it and no issues as of right now
Just bought one of these yesterday. The person I bought it from said she bought it brand new, I'm the second person to own it, I paid right under $2000 for it. Thanks for the tidbits of info on this car.
Years ago I bought a 94 Subaru legacy wagon for $1,000 it had 128k on it and was paired with a manual transmission. I drove that car for 5 years and put 100,000 miles on it. By far one of the best buys I've ever made. I still miss that car to this day..
Ive got a h6 outback with 215k miles. Extremely reliable car that gas been on several cross country trips. Needed Rocker cover gaskets at 160k and burns a half quart of oil every 3000 miles. Great cars.
I personally love the impreza. More specifically the WRX models. 4 doors, 5 seats, decent trunk space, amazing gas economy for a car with over 250hp, insanely good AWD for Nordic winters where I live, and the power the things make is exciting but not enough to get you killed. Especially for the 2003-2005 model and earlier, the engines are actually really reliable. The EJ20 2.0 liter boxer engine is awesome. Most WRX's break the engine only because idiots try to mod these to make 500hp, but they either have a stock tune, or a terrible DYI tune which results in a broken engine. Some young idiots also neglect checking oil levels, topping off, changing the oil, and using good quality oil. All those oil related things are important for a turbo car. So it's no wonder some douchebag bricks his boxer because he runs low on oil and does donuts for 10 minutes straight, starving the engine of oil, especially when done to one of those poorly modded cars.
I have a 2016 WRX STI and I LOVE it!. I get to drive Very winding roads to and from work as I live in the Sierra Nevada's and I feel she's in her ideal element. The AWD system comes in very handy in the winter as we can get a lot of snow.
My 2003 Forrester has 78,000 and I haven't had any problems except for the oxygen sensor two years ago. The all wheel drive in great in rain. I once got caught in a heavy snow storm and had great traction.
@@eskieman3948LOL sooooo true! It’s Subaru envy. I know too many that are over 200k, so sorry to say they don’t have head gasket or oil issues. Time for the diapers to be changed after reading this……viva SUBARU

Checking in from Atlantic Canada. My family has had something like 6 Subaru's over the years. Horrible gas mileage but as soon as the weather goes bad... that all wheel drive system will get you anywhere you need to be. Its incredible.
they really dont though, Im not sure what the old ones were getting but my 2020 forester sport is getting 32 highway and 24 street with a 24-26 combined
@@returnfreedom yeah we were those late 90s early 2000’s Subaru people. 17mpg if you were lucky in the older ones we had a 98 Legacy GT wagon + a 98 forester and kept the legacy forester combo going until 2015 when all my siblings left the house mum got herself a Corolla because she was no longer doing a 20km drive to town in all weather. Our last forester was an 07 we retired in 2015 with well over 300,000km. A friend of mine has a 2021 Crosstrek and that thing does 26mpg combined all day.. subaru figured their stuff out lately!
I have an O4 Forester, live east of the cascades in Oregon. As our search and rescue folks say, they find Subarus in places that surprise them. They can't be stopped. Put mud and snow light truck tires and it's what snow. And in the Australia outback...well...foresters and outbacks are extremely popular. Great cars if your not drag racing. West coast here been hammered with snow. Major highways closed, me and my Subaru driving out to Louisiana for a visit this week. I have no worries, snow, mud, rain, bring it.
I’ve always been a Toyota man for over 35 years. But, after my 2005 Forester got my family out of a snow storm last month without being stuck. As my Subaru was moving along H, we saw all the other 4x4s getting stuck
I’ve seen that time and time again and yet they’ll tell you how great they are in TH-cam videos lol…I’ll stick with a Subaru. Real life driving sold me on them, not woke videos. I’ll even see a rav time and time again needing assistance, and Subarus just drive on by….some good souls will help the poor Toyota out 🏆🙂🥇
I'm glad you like it, Scotty. I bought an 03 Forester last year 190k miles for 1,500 as a work vehicle. A friend of mine says it's a great car and low maintenance. I was hoping I didn't make a bad purchase. I like how it ride, feels solid, knowing that they're reasonably priced is good to know because I'm getting a 2021 soon.
My cousin won't drive any other car. The local dealer includes a lifetime engine warranty on ew and used Subaru's. The only catch is the dealer changes the oil. He has had no transmission trouble. He had one used one that had the bad head gasket. The dealer replaced it for free. I like the idea they are made in the US. The engine / transmissions are from Japan. Don't forget, Toyota bought 20% of Fuji Heavy Industries. If Subarus were junk, Toyota wouldn't have bought into the company.
Where Scotty is wrong here is in his view of the 6 cylinder engines. Contrary to what he said, the 6 cylinder engines are actually more reliable and head gasket issues are less common on those. The transmissions are very good on them, and I've never heard any real issues with people blowing the tranny with them.
Started leasing a 2020 Forester in May, so far no complaints. Eyesight system and rear-view camera works great. Comfortable and great visibility all around. I have the Sport version and use the Sport Sharp mode all the time, which does make a difference in pickup and handling.
I now rarely use the sport sharp mode, the Intelligent mode seems to now be stronger in pickup etc, than earlier. Perhaps it just needed some breaking in for the Intelligent mode to give better performance,.
I love my older subarus I've owned several and they have all had close to 300k miles. Best cars out there are old subarus. Aside from old toyotas but you can score a Subaru way cheaper
Finally I can hear from you the truth about Subaru. In the past I've feel that you had something against them. I have the next generation of Forester, I live in Europe, and we have some snow in here. Since I've got this car, 2006 Forester, I can't make the difference between driving in snow in the winter. I can't understand why people drive so slow when it snows. Also I live on a hill, was very hard to climb it when snowing. Now, each year, I'm the only one going up the hill, with ease. Each year I have to pull up a few cars that get stuck. Is a private road and no one maintain it, I don't have to shovel, just put the car to work. In a Subaru all seams normal in winter. Is very comfortable on forest roads, or unpaved roads, I take it offroad, and is very capable, I have a 2 inch lift and some BF Goodrich all terrain tires. The car performs really well. I'm happy that you make this video that confirms what I feel and know about Forester from my own experience with this car.
The 2.5 engine is notorious for blowing head gaskets whether or not you modify or push them due to the design of the chess gaskets. You can expect them to leak, and when they do, it's not a cheap fix. Once they are fixed with the upgraded head gasket they are fairly dependable.
My '09 Legacy developed a leak in the head and I had my mechanic check...sure enough, he said it was the head gasket. I love my '09 Legacy and instead of doing the head gasket job, I researched other repairs and went with Barr's Leaks - Blown Head - Head Gasket Repair kit and followed the vids and instructions to the letter...and sure enough the leak stopped. Alright, maybe I got lucky, it was a small & slow leak, but it worked for my car and this was in 2019. I frequently check for this leak...and there's none. So, there are alternatives out there, to the major and expensive head gasket job. All I'm saying is...don't write off your Subie! Mine is the 2.5L limited 5-sp auto and still working nice with 122+K miles !!!
That’s only documented for 2010 and earlier. Your talking Subaru engines from literally a decade ago, what about all the modern stuff they’ve been building? They wouldn’t stay in business if they constantly all blew head gaskets.
My grandpa gave me an 03 Forester with 205k miles on it and it has been a good little car. I do know that before he got it that the engine was replaced for some reason and it has little issues here and there but nothing major. There is also no rust on the car which is incredible since i live in Ohio. And of course it gets way better gas mileage than my pickup
I can back this. My 01 Subaru outback has been amazing to me. I bought it for 900. As far as repairs goes, I put like 1,500 into it over the course of the last two years. That's pretty damn impressive.
I bought a 1999 Outback wagon new and drove it for 9 years with only oil changes a set of tires. Sold it for 2K over blue book to the first looker. Best car I ever had and the AWD alone was worth it. Handled great. I'm contemplating getting another one.
I've had 3 Subaru's this new outback 2.4 turbo is the best engine bigger internal part's, thicker cylinder walls, behive valve springs, built for 500hp, I have 14k on mind, and love it Outback Onix Xt 2021, look it up , full size spare tire lol

Hello scotty please answer my question
I live in Israel i have Suzuki swift
I have problems with it stutters and shots of when i stop or pushing the gas pedal... they did throttle clean and it doesn’t worked

I see the wash the cars engines with hose!!!

Mine works great for driving over the piles of Democrat's rioting in Portland..........

It worked for about a month, until the instant I finally hit the highway. These lites came back in the second I stomped on the accelerator for my road trip.
Loving Scotty's newfound love for Subarus!
I sold my 2000 land rover defender 3 years ago bought a 2010 Subaru forester love it
2006 forester XT was one of my favorite cars to drive. Fun as hell in the winters in Michigan. Drove it to 220,000 miles with little drama. Burned a little oil but that's about it. Keep an eye on your oil level!
Just bought a used 2020 Forester Premium today, Sept 2021. Praying it lasts me a long time 🙏
Service when it’s suppose to….. they go a long long time. You have the best out there
Love it ! I own a 2002 19 year old Subaru Forester and it has got me out of anything. Love the car
I’d get this over any other brand out there now! They are reliable and safe. We were looking at Toyota and Honda, we chose wisely…..SUBARU all the way
My 02 Outback wagon has 314k miles, and has the H6 engine. No problems with the engine or transmission. The H6 engines don't have the head gasket problems that the 4 cylinder ones do.
Exactly. The 4 cylinder head gasket problems were corrected over five years ago. Now, only Toyotas are having head gasket problems.
I have a 01 Outback H6 VDC and I love it. I wish it was quieter tho but it’s decently quick and handles nice. It’s my daily
2006 outback with original driveline except front CV axles. 412,000 miles. Awd still works like it did new.
Did you ever have to replace the head gaskets? I did mine at around 230k after one side was leaking bad enough to cause a misfire.
Impressive. Maybe my 06 can go that far before it gives up the ghost? What fuel and oil do you use?
Wow that's a lot lol
Wow! Mine I bought at 348,000km and it now has 356, head gasket was replaced and newer clutch and I daily drive it about 80km daily. No issues so far.
2000 forester manual 5 speed
2005 Forester, hands down the best vehicle I ever owned (50 years). Lost it due to catastrophic timing belt blowout at high speed, had 230,000 miles on it
Ouch this happened to my Impreza outback sport wagon
Bought a 2008 Forester in New Zealand made in Jp's right-hand drive. 165k km drive train is solid. Impressed with the build, size and ride. A great option for taller drivers. More room than a Lexus 350. All wheel drive is fabulous on Aucklands winding back roads. Great car!
180k on my 98 Forester... still works great.
Same here! Congratulations!
I had good reliable use from the two Subaru wagons I owned. Pretty good cars.
owner of a 2006 legacy wagon with 153k miles. absolutely love it to the moon and back. i take care of it, it takes care of me.
My 2006 Baja has 225,000, still going strong!
Shhhhhh! Don't tell the clueless Subaru haters in these forums - makes them wet their pants.
@@eskieman3948LOL sooooo true! It’s Subaru envy. I know too many that are over 200k, so sorry to say they don’t have head gasket or oil issues. Time for the diapers to be changed after reading this……viva SUBARU
bought 2 2003 HIGH MILAGE suuby 400 each - one good motor one good trans/transfer. made one good one.
all new cv axles rotors calipers wheel bearings bushings power steering head gaskets
all new pulleys waterpump. pulled motor again for torque converter an rear main seal(didn't use factory seal first time) new pvc new crank sensor new water temp sensor new ac condenser
evaporator expansion valve radiator. YES DID ALL WORK MYSELF AND STILL OVER $4500
but worth the experience and the car runs great. and i now have a used car i know the complete history
@@returnfreedom oh and dad got a Tacoma hahah. Quick flip from a Subaru family to a Toyota gang haha
I have no worries, snow, mud, rain, bring it.
nice to hear you talk good about a subie!!! 14 crostrek and a 05 baja
I’ve always been a Toyota man for over 35 years. But, after my 2005 Forester got my family out of a snow storm last month without being stuck.
As my Subaru was moving along
H, we saw all the other 4x4s getting stuck
Ya that’s right sounds about Subaru to me.
EJ series engines, they haven't made them since 2009. Your head gasket story is 14 years out of date, it was 12 years out of date when you wrote it.
And if it lasts you many more years trouble free then that's even more impressive. Who wants to pay $40,000 for a new one.
I bought a 1999 Outback wagon new and drove it for 9 years with only oil changes a set of tires. Sold it for 2K over blue book to the first looker. Best car I ever had and the AWD alone was worth it. Handled great. I'm contemplating getting another one.
Scotty, you forgot to mention Subarus almost always ace crash tests. Impressive when compared to other much larger brands
The best 🏆🥇❤️
I've had 3 Subaru's this new outback 2.4 turbo is the best engine bigger internal part's, thicker cylinder walls, behive valve springs, built for 500hp, I have 14k on mind, and love it Outback Onix Xt 2021, look it up , full size spare tire lol
