  • I had the pleasure with sitting down with the brilliant Atlegang Govusa, who speaks about her bad financial decisions and overcoming them.
    In this conversation we speak about how easy it is to get caught up in a web of debt from just the start of your career.

    In 2019 I returned a car that I bought in 2017. After I found out I'm expecting my 2nd baby I made that decision in a rush. I was so hurt but free at the same time. The car was still in an excellent condition and I was only left with R35 000 shortfall after hard long negotiations. I went through it and I realise it is the best decision I've ever taken. 4 years later I managed to buy my own low cost car that is not luxury and I am debt free. Sometimes you gotta do what is needed and take the most painful decision to survive.

      @@Yvonne_Mot it's so hurtful and feels weird too. People used to ask me about the car and that would break my heart 💔. U are doing a good job and God will give you another car and more in due time. U are not alone.

      Plz can you tell me how you managed with the shortfall, I've been trying to trade my car which is a year now but they say I have a shortfall that I need to pay upfront if I want to trade the car that cost less than what I have. Kindly advise 🙏

    • @erpadministrator
      @erpadministrator ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Ndalo-cf6dpask for appointment with the vehicle finance department in your bank. E.g. I met with a vehicle finance practitioner at Absa vehicle finance because I was financed by Absa. He is the one who gave a lot of information on what to do, what kind of letters I needed to write to the bank requesting to breach their finance contract. It was accompanied by my bank statements and payslips. You will be called many more times to negotiate with you and reduce the amount left on the shortfall depending on the value of the car and also looking how much you had already paid, the condition of the car etc. They then further assisted me with my finances apart from the car issue. It was really helpful. I hope I make sense.

    I had been following Atlegang for some time when she dropped the Merc video and I must say that she really took charge of the narrative and owned it like a boss by being honest and vulnerable upfront. The abantu bazothini squad had no chance cause she really showed up for her truth. 🙌🏽

    It Just A Car. ❤. If we can start to understand that we could make great decisions on cars just like that. It also goes with very un affordable houses. It just a House. ❤. But what if we can take it a notch further and say that in every Liability that is out of reach in a certain time of our lifetime. We almost forget that when we are born the same thing is happening to some people and they are not the first people. Really now I understand when the Bible Said there is nothing new under the Sun.

    However we have always been transparent and accountable with our finances. We aware of the risks and therefore communicate everything financial. We discuss salary increases, contracts, bonuses, debt …in detail.

    Loved loved both of you. This was so relatable. We've all made money mistakes, but the most important thing is to learn from it. I wish I had friends like you honestly, because I personally love to talk about finance but so many people are so uncomfortable. We learn so much by expressing these stuff. Just last month I went to test drive my dream car which would be 6k more than my current car that I so so love, and I thought the heavens would open, and it did not. And I had to ask myself why did i even want this car. Cause at the end of the day I'm one to wanna see the money, to have peace of mind and be able to breathe and still do my favourite things without debit orders strangling me. Thank you for this burst of wisdom, it's inspiring as always🌻

    This reminds me of the time I returned my car because I was working closer to home and my husband was available to drive me to/from work. I was liberated and since then I always pushed myself to pay off any other debt I have. It's a beautiful feeling to let go of that debit order 😅. I would rather join stokvels now than approach banks for financial assistance unless it's a huge need.
    On marriage contracts: to each their own! God gave us brains to explore and whichever contract one goes for, it is theirs to deal with. Let us not be biased but give valuable info so that people make informed decisions. What if one does not get divorced and both parties have good financial traits? It can also work for either of the contract.

    Think mistake wasn’t buying a car, the mistake was the reason why you bought the car, most people buy cars for status but internally it has no fulfillment at all, my dad owns 6 cars and he’s not rich by any means but he just truly loves cars and he works hard every year to be able to afford his love for cars, we lived well housed and went to good schools, he sacrificed things such as good on vacations and eating out when he was in his 20s just so he could live happily with some that truly makes him happy, my point is spend money on things that truly make you happy and you’re willing to work hard for whether it’s a car, an expensive lifestyle it doesn’t matter the important thing is internal happiness as long its not at the expense of anyone else’s happiness, there’s nothing wrong with wanting an expensive/luxury just revise the intentions of why you want it, and how hard you’re willing to work for it.

    Ya’ll sound like you are nailing people married in community to the cross. I think there is a reason why both options are there, be it from a biblical point of view or just as a personal decision. If you are married in community, the issue of buying things and you have to constantly consult your spouse is not even a big of a deal when you knew what you are signing up for. So don’t feel like you are doomed, you are not…marriage can work either way or it can fail either way…your marriage is more than your “contract”.

    I never understood this concept of a "dream car". Why would you "dream" of a car vele? A car is just a car. A tool to move you from point A to B.
