You forgot the main thing, LAZINESS!!!! We as South Africans find comfort too quickly, the bar that has been set is way too low for young South Africans as compared to other countries, we need a changed mindset within our youth and with time we will get there 🙌. Never EVER underestimate the power of Education.
So true. Every single time I have been guilty is when I am at my less confident self, feeling empty, feeling low and looking down on myself. I spend only to kick myself the very next day
Especially someone who doesn’t have debt you feel like you can afford to be broke. I suffer from this and I need to stop with this retail therapy I thank God for your channel I love the correction and scolding I am getting from you.❤️❤️❤️💫💫
Thanks for another great video. Nna I'm a mindless spender and go crazy whenI see the words "Save/Saving/buy 3 for 2". So I try to stay away from shops. I'd rather pay the R35 delivery for Sixty60 than go to the shops. Dischem - I go in there with a list (in and out and no mindless isle cruising)
I love Checkers sixty60, really one of the best app....as for Dischem, I just don't know how to get around it, I always overspend 😭😭😭 but thank goodness I don't like going to the shops
To be honest when I saw the title I was like oh gosh not another boring lecture about financial saving that is not realistic...but I was actually intrigued enjoyed your insights and k could relate on complacency and not keeping record of expenses...for me my problem is once I get paid I save quiet a lot then next few days I dip into those savings and don't keep record😭 thanks so much for this content, I'm happy that one could relate. It was realistic and informative as well.
😂😂 I totally understand because normally that's how financial literacy is 'taught' but not here! Here is real life because I've been there myself❤️❤️ Welcome
The truths in this video, on point. I am guilty of over indulgence. I justify this by saying I work hard so I deserve this. This video gave me alot to think about. Thank you 👏🏿
The emotional spending part really got to me because, I had a blue Monday this week and felt everything was just going left🥹, then I told myself, “ You know what, you deserve this for the type of day that you had”. I won’t lie I felt a whole lot better and “happier”. But when my head cleared the next day, I was shocked ukuthi did I really spend this amount of money just because I was frustrated😫
I love your videos. I love your book and I absolutely love how you narrate things. I was able to be in charge of my finances after buying your book early last year. Thank you Mapalo. ❤️
Thank you for your videos Mapalo🥰👏 Alot of people don't know if you on discovery medical aid they provide so many free therapy sessions per year. I'm not sure about other medical aids but it doesn't hurt to check with your medical aid provider. I truly believe emotional spending is one of the biggest problems that I personally had to overcome.
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 That's why its so important to find out the full benefits of your medical aid and its as easy as calling the company. thank you for the great reminder.
You're the first South African TH-camr I've come across that speaks so much practical sense. I'm currently trying to fix my credit. I don't think it's too bad as yet, but I'd like to avoid it at all costs. So glad that your page popped up on my feed.
Mapalo I just want to thank you , the information you give is so insightful and you are so relatable. I hope you know that you helping alot of people with this 😍😍😍
Just what I needed to hear today 😭 Mine is not keeping track of my spending and hot saving coz I always have tell myself I don't have enough to even budget, let alone save
To avoid emotional spending ....I take a walk at the Botanical gardens nearby...sit at a cafe for a drink or Chai Latte....or do a video call with my dear darlings at home .....or even better i declutter in my home ..... Thanks for such invaluable info!
New subbie here ❤️ just came across your video today and honestly I love your energy and I can definitely relate to this My reason for being ‘broke’ is always feeling the need to spoil myself 😂 hard day ? I get something nice, I had a great day best believe I’m checking something out but I’ve recently started evaluating and planning my spending. It’s not easy but it’s definitely a work in progress
Buying Lunch every day. Where I live in Canada folks spend at least $20.00 per day. Not keeping track of your finances is a hard fact. Also you don't realize just how much you spend. Buying Coffee at Starbucks adds up. Buying stuff online at Amazon which is very addictive. Also Dollar Type Stores are very addictive. I also take an Excel Sheet then I keep track of what I buy. If I spend more than I "make", I know I am in trouble but if it's not like that I am safe. Also Shakespeare said in Hamlet "Never A Borrower Nor A Lender Be". My Cousin can't balance his finances to save his life and it's so frustrating when he asks me for a Loan. He feels awful but I'm the only one who would help him.
Great video, I remember 3 or 4 years ago on Maya Fischer's podcast you were planning on buying a car. Did you buy that car? or you are still thinking about it? :)
Thank goodness I never did because just a few weeks later from doing that podcast, lockdown happened 😭😭 but now that we are travelling again, I am looking for new wheels
Shuuu🥵🥵🥺🥺🙆🏽♀️🙆🏽♀️!! Did the “self-esteem” and “emotional spending” part of this video not convict me🫢! My mind literally went, “that’s you Baby Girl🫣”. Thank you so much for mentioning it 🥺. It’s not often that we hear such regarding our bad financial habits and/or mistakes. I literally feel like this is what will come to mind every time I feel like I’m about to over-extend myself for someone else, or just desire to spend out of some-sort emotional space😭. Which is what I need 🥺! “When you know better, you do better” 🥺. I cannot wait to indulge on the knowledge and wisdom you and Sis Pam will be sharing on the other channel🙌🏽! May God bless you both 🙏🏽
Hii Mapalo ........ I've watching most of your videos for the past few months and trust me I've noted all your advices that I think are going to be helpful So ....I have a question.....I don't if I'm going to sound silly or stupid but ama ask it anyways 😂........how does one calculate their networth and how do you increase it 🤔
Hi Malta Networth = Assets (everything you own that is valuable, i.e house, investments, pension fund etc) minus Liabilities (everything you owe, i.e credit card, loans etc).
not a great idea, the interest rate they charge is ridiculous and oftentimes, people don't take on what they can actually afford . I know some people say they do it to build their credit score but there's other ways too.
3:28 I don't think that's right. Unless I'm misunderstanding something.. 15k/month for 35 years is 6 million, not 25. With 5% inflation, its like 11 million max.
You forgot the main thing, LAZINESS!!!!

Money problems are not really money problems, they are just an extention of what is going within an individual.
😮💨
💯💯💯
Spot on
😖
Intelligent statement 😉
Light bulb moment when you mentioned Low Self Esteem being the driver of unnecessary spending 😭😭😭 Thank you.
So true. Every single time I have been guilty is when I am at my less confident self, feeling empty, feeling low and looking down on myself. I spend only to kick myself the very next day
that's why self-awareness is so important. it allows you to know your triggers and deal with them. All the best Tribe ❤️❤️❤️
@@Queendollar83 🤗🤗🤗and believe me, it takes courage to say and notice that about yourself. You are going to be just fine ❤️❤️❤️
‘When you don’t have money, that’s when you spend the most.’ that part hit me
Living beyond your means is the main reason that keeps people broke
@StinkmeanerZA are you not part of Cliffcentralists?
Especially someone who doesn’t have debt you feel like you can afford to be broke.
I suffer from this and I need to stop with this retail therapy
I thank God for your channel I love the correction and scolding I am getting from you.❤️❤️❤️💫💫
Sjoe! This one hit home for me. I've very little debt so I sometime justify spending with this thinking.
Yep, I've been here myself ❤️❤️❤️
My favorite financial advisor, I was talking to a friend today about "The quality of life" VS living for other people. Thank you sesi
Our NUMBER 1 financial advisor!! 👏🏽👏🏽🥳
Emotional spending and eating out are the worst enemy 😫 😪
yeyi! eating out used to be the very worst for me😭😭

Dis-Chem and Woolies food are my weakness 🤦🏾♀️. I decided to shop online to help me not overspend. But I always pay myself first..

Take them back once your head is cleared from whatever that was frustrating you...
Remember this whenever you are having a blue Monday: I am having a bad day, not a bad life!❤️❤️🤗 And we all have bad days from time to time
