    In the old days, you would also need a catted/catless downpipe to make 3XX HP which was a nightmare for emissions testing in certain states. Now that required upgrade is no longer necessary since the stock exhaust flows so much better.

    I picked up a Cobb intake pipe (I will be installing tomorrow) that utilizes the factory airbox as I'm going for a sleeper build. I want to keep under the hood as quiet as possible. Next will be a charge pipe and an intercooler. THEN an AP. I really like the design of the Perrin top mount. Oh and Perrin just released their Turbo inlet hose that is supposed to add 10-15 hp.

    • @HeavyMetalWRX

      I appreciate the support! Yeah I'd say he is pretty on the money. When he gives estimates it's based off what he saw on the dyno with similar numbers. With my ethanol tune he quoted 380 and I was at 386. So give it +/-5hp but id say you're prob closer to 350hp. The ets I take breathes just a bit better than the Perrin.

    Just ordered a Cobb AP since I couldn't pass on black friday deals. I have a Cobb air intake, Borla catback exhaust, while retaining the stock intercooler and charge pipe. Hoping to reach at least 320ish HP/lb-ft torque with the parts I have on. My question is that do you prefer a dyno tune over an E-tune?

    • @HeavyMetalWRX
      @HeavyMetalWRX  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! Fantatsic you were able to get some fancy parts! Etune and dyno tune are both identical in nature. They are both tunes dialed to your car. I would suggest going to the dyno at least once if you've never been as it is an experience. After that if you keep getting parts id stick with an etune as it's cheaper plus you could probably continue with the same tuner. I just keep going back to the dyno because I have access to it.

    • @HeavyMetalWRX
      @HeavyMetalWRX  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's hard to say exactly how much (maybe 5hp). It's not a major amount from the intake but ETS is the best flowing intake. In the long run for a weekend warrior it doesn't really matter tbh. Unless you're gonna go built motor and full turbo kit what's single digit hp difference if something is on sale. That's how I see it

    I raced a Lexus something this morning in my 23 and beat him by a couple cars even bouncing off the rev limiter every gear. Question is do tuners move the rev limit up ? It seems like it would keep pulling easily another 500-1000rpm. I wasn’t watching the tach but I easily hit the limiter pretty quickly in each gear.

    • @HeavyMetalWRX
      @HeavyMetalWRX  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yea the hard rpm limit is rough. They do uo it to 6500 and some even go to 7000.

  • @paintsplatta99
    @paintsplatta99 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, 260whp bone stock? So let me ask you this: is the factory claimed 271hp at the crank or at the wheel? I thought it was at the crank, which would put whp around 216 using the ~20% power loss formula (powertrain loss). But with this 260 number from you as an independent source, that has me wondering if the factory claimed 271hp was actually a whp number (albeit maybe a little optimistic).

    • @HeavyMetalWRX
      @HeavyMetalWRX  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tbh I have no idea wtf Subaru was trying to claim with 271. I feel like they pulled a VW and just said whatever they needed to say to get through epa regulations. It doesn't make 271 to the crank and it doesn't make 271 to the wheel. Only thing I can think of is they did the mustang dyno and converted it to crank? I wish I knew the answer.

    • @HeavyMetalWRX
      @HeavyMetalWRX  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea the fuel economy won't change because of the tune. If anything you might actually gain a few mpg. The reason mpg goes down after a tune is because the car becomes even more fun to drive so you floor it more often to hear the noises 🤣

    • @samael1981

    • @samael1981
      @samael1981 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @HeavyMetalWRX I'm not an expert like you. But my intuition is telling me that there's a little bit more to fuel economy. A heavy foot on a base model Toyota Corolla is still going to burn less gas than a normal foot on a Hellcat, for example.

    • @HeavyMetalWRX
      @HeavyMetalWRX  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@samael1981 no worries! So b cusee we have a turbo and direct I jevtion the ecu will put the exact amount of fuel and air together. As we tune and out on an intake we adjust the amount of air going in and so the fuel needs to also be adjusted. When tuned and we floor it we are using more air AND more gas. As long as you are staying out of boost ( cruise control, no wide open throttle pulls) the air intake is low which means fuel is low. The rcllecamples you gave are greatm the Camry is tuned to use minimal fuel and air to make it's power. The hellcat naturally just needs more fuel because the increased cylinders then even more fuel because of all the extra air going into that big engine + supercharger. It all comes down to the tune.

      Yea at 340whp I was hitting 12.4s with bad launches. 0-60 was low 4s. A quality driver can easily get this to low 12s and with an ethanol tune (350-400) easily into high 11s id say. I have a video of me doing draggy runs but I'm not a great driver and still was hitting 12.4 I think.

      Technically it doesn't void your warranty. If you are paranoid about warranty then I would suggest not tuning at all. It's the only realistic way you can be sure.

      Hey man, I think you might find it a bit of a tough fit. You could probably make it fit with some cutting. My Perrin air box also had a bit of an issue with the piping. Id like to go back and put it on but for now it's been fine without.

On Dynos that read a bit close to really, the sock numbers are probably closer to 220. But if you’re going back to the same dyno the gains are going to be pretty accurate even if the final number is inflated.

      @@JordieG8 They don't read that high.. that's a stigma from people explain their poor numbers on mustang dynos. I have a MD250 dyno in MY shop and I read just a tiny bit lower than most dyno jets and mustangs are supposed to be humbling. It's not as big of a difference as you would think. For example I dyno scats always around 395-405 hp and dynojets see 400-420. Not a big difference 15% would be insane that's a 60hp difference.

    I wanna go stage 1 so bad in mine (2022) but I bought the extended warranty so I know I shouldn’t 😩hey it was a 4K warranty that I got for 1500 and is 7 year/100k. I know it’s probably fine reliability wise but something would so happen to me I swear 😂

    • @rawkombucha
      @rawkombucha ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't trust my opinion, but I also have the extended warranty and went for a tune (no aftermarket parts) after 11k miles because I decided it was safe enough for the engine. More worried about transmission issues down the line, which the tune (hopefully) won't void. Planning on keeping the car for at least 3 years/50k miles, will probably swap it out before 70k miles.

      @@rawkombuchaHad my transmission replaced under warranty. Before they moved forward with an approved warranty claim, they checked the ECU if it was ever tuned. They told me if it was, then I'd be on the hook for buying a whole new transmission. Luckily I'm completely stock or I guess you can say super unlucky since all these other people have been modding without transmission issues.

      I think the tune a d driver are what keep the transmission in working co dition. Now this doesn't take into account freak accidents, of which are possible to happen.
