Subaru really expects people to pay Civic Type R and Golf R money for a WRX with no STI transmission or DCCD. It is the same engine and drivetrain as a 2022 base WRX that was sold for $30k. Subaru needs to lay off the weed.
Yea I don't agree with the TS being 45k. The TR being 41 was also rough but at least it was just 2k more than a limited. Then I could say it's 2k for brembos.
The DCCD is more gimmick than anything else. 99% of people who own STI's dont use it for its intended purpose anyway. All that torque vectoring etc is just a waste. the wrx smokes CTRs all day with just 5k in mods. and is still far cheaper than the 60k most dealers pay. I owned the FK8 before my VB, and also own an 05 STI. The VB is a very very good platform, and killer value. The Golf R has a garbage awd system and is FWD biased, so not really a comparison either. Sure with the DCT it can be super super fast in a strait line, but who wants to buy thousands in separate tools just work on it. the WRX competes with GTI's and Civic SI's
@@stronkworks idk what's happening. We are slowly losing more of the WRX identity. It's no longer the inexpensive semi feature rich turbo sedan we loved
@@HeavyMetalWRX That's subjective, I get what your saying.. but, I also owned a 2015 WRX Limited which I bought new as well in late 2014. Comparing apples to apples, the new VB WRX is substantially better in most areas. Many don't like the looks compared to previous gens, mainly the VB, and I was in that camp too. I was pretty disappointed with the VB when it was first announced. Well, it's grown a LOT on my over the 3'ish years since we started seeing them in the wild on the streets. I sold my VA WRX, and got into a VB WRX back in July, 2024. But comparing the VA to the VB (WRX Only), the VB has quite a few more 'features', if that's how were looking at them. I understand where your coming from, but comparing the VA to VB, last gen to current.. the VB has it beat. (looks, well.. to each their own, lol). Even my 2019 Outback has jumped in price substantially compared to the latest gen coming out. It's just going to be like that and how things are.
Subaru is making foolish decisions. They need to keep 1 wrx, the premium, sell it at base trim price 30k, then bring back the STI and sell it at TR price 42k. Just like the way they always did it since 2004....
Damn. The new cars keep increasing in price while my 22 is getting murdered in depreciation. One of the reasons I bought a Subaru was thinking it would hold value better so I could eventually trade up to a Supra. Now I think the better value will just be to mod this to mid 300's, drive the wheels off, and enjoy no car payment soon!
@@isaacchavez1425 I kinda find those deals hard to believe tbh.. especially the OTD price. Kinda a pics or it didn't happen moment. lol I got a pretty killer deal on my '24 Premiums during local 4th of July sales and paid substantially more. I was just about fully optioned out for what you can get on the Premium trim, but still. 🤔
I think it truly hits home when you're cross shopping these with used cars. A used 2018-2021 STI with the improved suspension, slightly enhanced EJ, and 6 pot 2 pot big STI brakes, cost $25k in California with less than 70k miles. With that 10k difference for a base WRX you can do literally do all the reliability and tech amenity upgrades you need....
At this point, not making the STi is still a head scratcher for me. As it stands with the current lineup, 45k for a WRX TS is a tough pill to swallow. I have had the opportunity to drive a Type-R and that thing feels leagues beyond the WRX in braking, handling, and especially acceleration. Inflation is what it is but at that price point, Subaru should have just released an STI VB with 50 more HP than the WRX to even be comparable to a Type-R. The new suspension, brakes, and handling on the TS should make a big difference but the power train is what needs an upgrade for VB to make it truly special. At least as special as the Type-R as those are amazing.
@SoulEraser000 Not sure I understand why any other performance car exist based on that argument. 600 hp Porsches can be made, V8 Mustang's, Supra's, GR Corolla's, etc, but not an STI? 🤷♂️
This is how I feel as well. Everyone else is allowed to have performance ecars but we can't? You'd think Subaru has enough carbon credits considering the ENTIRE rest of the lineup is npc cars ☠️
They dont really want to put out a STI with the fa24dit and the sti 2.0 is outdated "emissions" wise so they would have to put a lot of changes in that engine to make relevant changes
A civic R is only 2 seconds faster around a typical race track, plus with the markups it is $15k more. If you just do intake and tune on the wrx it will smoke civic r. The GR Corolla can't even do a track session without overheating and shutting down. 😂 Volkswagons are a no go.
If Subaru just went with the STI transmission on the TR that would perfectly justify a 45k price for that specific trim, but it is getting to a point where people start to see other options.
People have always seen other options, the STI was a slow outdated pig. Sure it has a great trans, but the EJ257 is a dinosaur. ive owned 3 of them, and currently own an 05. It isnt some super car because it has 25 more hp and a better trans.
That's such a gross on Subaru's side to do that, you gotta be a Subaru die hard to get 25' WRX over GR Corolla. Way to kill sales. Personally, I will spend few more dollars and get 5.0 mustang.
@@gaivoron I mean I still don't know if I'd get a great Corolla considering Toyota has acknowledged the shortcomings of the 3 cyl. Once you put aftermarket in the picture the other cars do lose their lead but still ...it's hard to believe the pricing.
I was thinking the same. My '22 WRX is a whole different animal for me. If it had cost any more than it did I'd have just stuck with my Mustangs and other V8 muscle cars that I've always had before.
The premium also came with push start, oem rear spoiler, heated mirrors, and fog lights which base didn't have. The 25 premium does have a few extra options previous years didn't have. The only thing on the TR/TS I'd want is the Brembos, but I don't want 19" rims. I prefer mechanical guages over digital and don't like the blue on the TS seats.
I sure am glad I bought my 2024 base when I did. Heated seats was really the only item I wish it had, but not worth the extra expense to go premium. Everything I own gets a new set of plus sized rims to make them unique, so the factory 17" size didn't bother me.
Just a few short years ago my driveway consisted of a Crosstrek, an Impreza, a WRX and a BRZ. Now I have a CX-30 turbo (because Subaru refuses to make a CUV with any sort of power), an MX-5 (because the BRZ wasn’t as good and I should have bought the MX-5 the first time), and a Type R, because Subaru killed the STI but wants STI money for one of the ugliest cars on the road right now. Was a huge Subaru guy. If they keep doing what they’re doing, I’ll never own another Subaru again.
@@mrnrfan182 I don't blame you at all. I'll be driving my '17 Impreza hatch for as long as I can. But my next car is prob a Type-S, since there is no STI
The Outback XT is that CUV. The Gen 2 BRZ outperforms the MX-5. WRXs have always been ugly. Yea the Type-R is also $12k more than it's last Gen. $50k OTD for a Honda Civic is wild.
@@DragonKnightX12 hahaha yah I just want something different. The outback XT is a serious contender. I just want something light and with a shorter wheel base. And the Type S has the unique factor. In the end I'll prob get something different. I'm scared of buying a VW Golf R but it's also intriguing
@ @ the Outback is a wagon, not a CUV. Yes, there is a difference. If you’re looking for a compact car with a bit of height and some power, Subaru does not offer one. There’s a reason the Miata is the #1 tracked car in the US. And having owned a BRZ, the Miata is the better car. It may not have the power but it’s more fun. It’s incredibly easy to work on and reliable. And I guess you haven’t seen the price of the highest trim WRX. Right on par with the Type R but a whole lot less in terms of ability or power…let’s not try and pretend like the WRX is even what the Subie folks have been asking for the last decade. Where’s the hatch? Where’s the 300+ power? Shit, you no longer have a DCCD or a good transmission. But the WRX now costs as much as the STI that has all of those things. Let’s acknowledge that Subaru hasn’t listened at all and instead the Subi crew just take what they’re given and then make excuses for the awful decisions. I’m an enthusiast, not a loyalist. Which is why, after 15 years of Subaru ownership, I don’t own one.
@@spunkush Ngl I would love a turbo Crosstrek wilderness. I feel the Type S has the same problem. It's a very expensive Honda Civic. lol Honestly If I was gonna spend over 50k probably go the Ranger Raptor. Have a off-road truck and sports car in one. Golf R is pretty fast for hot hatch with the DSG tho. You can easily tune it too 400+ whp.
I’ll stay with my 2020 wrx limited, I installed fortune autos coil Overs, ap racing brakes. It’s my daily and she’s almost paid for. I’ll be keeping my hands on it for a long time
Some nice tasteful mods/upgrades. Take it from me once you cross over into the fully paid for territory. NEVER get rid of the car unless you absolutely have no other choice but to. lol
My base WRX in 2005 cost me $26K, and I still have the window sticker. Considering inflation the current prices are actually not out of line. Not having an STi or offering a DCCD is a different issue.
Inflation is only one component of price. Cost of living (things like rent, groceries), relative affordability, maintenance, median income relative to car prices, etc. all have to be considered too. Realistically, today's WRX is not priced in line with yesterday's due to these factors. The other big things are how its priced compared to its competitors, and whether their packaging strategy is in line with the primary demogrpahic. The main WRX buyer is not on r/WRX, or an enthusiast. There's a reason the Premium has been the staple trim. It was a lot of the core features buyers wanted for a solid price. The Premium is now that same car, with all the safety features that a lot of WRX buyers may either not want or would rather not have to pay for, and it costs almost as much as a GR Corolla. If eyesight and DMS were optional and they could cut the Premium price by $1k, that would go a long way.
The Elantra N with a manual transmission at $34,000 with 276hp and 289lb-ft of tq is worthy of being bought. The GR Corolla Core trim with 300hp and 273lb-ft of tq at $39,000 is worthy of being bought. Step up to the Premium trim (formerly the Circuit Edition) and get +22lb-ft of tq extra for $42,000 and Premium Plus (formerly the Morizo Edition) also with the same amount of tq for $46,000 and change and even if it's a $205.00, that's worthy of being bought. The 2025-2026 MK8.5 Golf R, although it no longer has a manual transmission, with 315hp and 288lb-ft of torque at $45,000 is worthy of being bought. The FL5 Civic Type R with 315hp and 310lb-ft of tq at $44,000 (if you can find one at MSRP) is worthy of being bought. To throw a curveball, if you want to pay an extra $6,000-$7,000 and get the Integra Type S and get 320hp and 310lb-ft of tq, as long as you can look past no memory seats, you will get way more car for the money and that too is worthy of being bought over the WRX tS. At $46,875, the WRX tS is 2021 VA gen WRX STI Limited and 2020 WRX STI Series White money and the VB gen WRX tS is most certainly not an STI. In the 2025 calendar year, Subaru of Japan and Subaru of America had better call a major audible and reverse course on no VB gen WRX STI and put the STI in production, even if it's just for 3 model years for the 2026-2028 model years. If their excuse is that they don't have an engine for it, they can go to Porsche and get the 718 Boxster's 2.5T Flat Four engine that makes 350hp and 309lb-ft of tq. That is more than sufficient to be worthy of an STI. If Subaru still insists they won't do an STI, then this should immediately be the final generation of anymore WRX's because no Subie WRX and STI fans and owners will want a hybrid CVT-only WRX, nor a remote control transmissionless WRX STe EV because that's not the roots of the WRX and STI and no one is asking for the so-called future model Subaru wants to spew out that their customer base is not even asking for.
You are comparing limited run higher trim models with Halo cars. They arent the same. The CTR is 60k at dealers still, and integrat Type S is 55-60k still. The corolla while starting to get better, is still marked way up in some places. Have you owned an STI? I currently own the best NA version, the 05, and I owned 2 VA STI's, a 2015 and a 2017, and not one of them can touch my VB. Sure the 05 is super analogue and head turning, but its cheap inside, and drives like an old tractor. Subaru is still a small company, and the fact that we get the WRX at all is a blessing. you guys all need to stop this nonsense. Just get a used base, for like 25k and enjoy it.
@coreydugre6540 To each their own. There's nothing wrong with that. If that's the selling point for you and other buyers, that's what you all like. I wouldn't take that away from you or anyone else who wants it just for the AWD. In generalization, it's just a one trick pony of a car. It does nothing else, but give you grip at all 4 wheels. Personally, it doesn't sound appealing for me, maybe because I live in Florida and AWD is not necessary nor needed where I am at. If anyone gets AWD in FL, it's because they want it, not because they need it.
There are two main points for why we can't just accept that this is a correction for inflation. 1. Other competitors are offering the same or better for less money. 2. Wages have practically flatlined while inflation has skyrocketed. We don't have the same buying power as we did then. So, of course everything will feel expensive. When we could afford the car before and now we can't, that's a problem.
I bought a used 23 WRX premium for 27K. I do consider myself lucky, but honestly don't know why the newer ones are so expensive. They're fine cars, but you price them the way you want and you're up to almost 40K. I used to be able to buy an STi for less than 35K. Wild.
Correct me if I’m wrong but if the cost of the 2025’s went up wouldn’t an interested buyer be more likely to buy a used WRX? I currently have a 22 limited thinking about going back to a BRZ.
Wife and I are looking for a secondary vehicle 35-45k range AWD and with a back seat for 2 kids. At 42 I feel like maybe I'd look weird in a 24 WRX but not sure. We looked at the Audi S5 '21/'22 and man they are nice but god the depreciation is nuts. What are your thoughts on someone like myself getting a WRX or maybe a '21 STI, I don't mind buying a new '24 non TR if it's going to be viable.
These cars used to be simple. There was two trim WRX and STI. Then they started all this limited, garbage, then premium, now the TR TS. They are playing BMWs game now with all the add-ons.
All dealers in upstate New York had 1-2 Base WRX on average. Many, around half of all dealerships, never had 1 base in ‘24. All had countless Premiums, often for less than a base. If you didn’t live in 1 of 2 regions you’d have to drive several hours to find a Base whereas every dealership had multiple premiums. Of course the number of Premiums sold V. Bases was over 10 to 1.
Honestly all car prices are out of control right now. Ecoboost mustangs for $40k+, Integra Type S which is FWD only for $52k, that new Dodge Charger EV starts at over $60k, and let's not even get to pick up truck prices. Yes $45k is a lot for a WRX non STI, but it's still a true AWD system, not fwd based, it has a better engine than it's competition, better brakes than the competition, better back seat space. If this came out in 2022, maybe it would've been $3k-5k less
Limited Manual $41,300 with no Brembos or STi transmission? No thank you. I'll keep my Hyperblue STi...lol. And thanks for making this video. Keep the pressure on them and keep asking the tough questions. Only way things get better.
The best way to get into the VB platform now is to buy one used for 27-28k. Lots of people are selling their 22s with around 30k miles. Not a bad deal at that point IMO
thats not a good deal I just got a new premium with sti short throw and upgraded rugs and headrests ...for 32,600 with 4 miles on the dash... the base is brand new msrp 33k and new you can get them now for 29k why buy a used one for 2k less lol
I’m glad I got my brand new 2024 Limited Ignition Red WRX six speed for SIX Grand UNDER MSRP. I was about to get a premium but decided it was time for a limited as I have had many Premium WRXs before. I also had a 2018 GTI that I got brand new back in 2018 which I also got for six grand UNDER msrp back then. You just have to negotiate and have dealers competing against each other via emails. I never stepped foot into the dealer until I had it written that we would be 15% under msrp
Good thing I got my 22' Premium WRX this year. Got it with 7K miles, paint matches fenders, and aftermarket rims. Looking at these crazy prices I'm relieved I took my chance and got my car.
worst part.... 25s come with the DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation System. monitors your eyes while driving. terribly invasive, AND probably a cost driver. hard no
@@fortheloveofnoise I concur with that statement! Still don't know what the price of the WRX TS will be in Canada, but the TR is $44k here, so at least a couple more than that I would assume... As far as competition for that though, the Civic TypeR is $54k , the 2024 Golf R starts at $50k, the GR Corolla about $50k... At least in Canada, the TS still might be the cheaper option among performance cars
I bought my 2022 Subaru WRX used in 2022 with a little over 1,000 miles for $35, 000. Seems like I paid $5,000 more than I should. However, I did trade in my 2016 Subaru Crosstrek for $12, 000, leaving me with a $23, 000 bill. Despite the loss, I probably shouldn't be complaining after watching this video lol Def gonna keep it after I pay it off :)
Can get a 2024 WRX RS here in Canada for $44.5k CAD so it's weird how much higher these are priced in the states. My local dealership has 4 of them sitting on the lot right now
(GRC Owner): The Mazda3 Turbo Hatch would have been the car I picked if it had a manual transmission AND AWD. You have to pick one or the other. I'm pretty sure the Turbo FWD hatch has much less power too. I think the available lip kits for the car make it look great and the AWD system is supposed to be really good. I've heard the ride quality is great and the sound system is very good, but the suspension "performance" is awful and aftermarket tuning options are limited.
I agree with you 100% on everything that you are talking about. Everything keeps getting overpriced, and there’s no reason for it. Inflation or not what everything is priced at today whether it’s cars homes whatever it’s not worth it and the unfortunate part is we’re all stuck with it.
I owned 3 STI's and 3 WRX's. This GT price pretty much almost gets you into BMW M230xi territory there. I've been so disappointed in Subaru's plans for the WRX. Not sure I'll be coming back. Sad.
$35k WRX Premium is was pretty much expected really (+ a little bit of inflation). More of the options that are in the premium are now Standard. My 2024 WRX Premium starting price was $34.7 (MSRP), so already creeping up on that $35.5k that the 2025 will be starting at. After I optioned out my Premium, I was looking at $38.5k (not including taxes, destination fees, etc). Unless you just want a new car, you're better off buying used anywho. Especially if you don't want the Subaru Eyesight system, which is standard on the 2024+ WRX models. I didn't like the Eyesight system at first in my '24 WRX, but some of the features have really grown on me.. especially for long road trips. Otherwise I disable most of the features when going on 'spirited' drives. Anywho, the small price hike for the '25 WRX premium is just a given considering you extra standard features and the additional Eyesight features. YOU as a buyer just need to decide if it's worth it for you.. If not, there is a better used car market for 2022-2023 WRX's. But, as many of you know.. You are talking a gamble on how the previous owner treated that car. (that's why I bought new). 🤙🤙
@@HeavyMetalWRX Ok, so you're adding in the destination and delivery fee. Got it. You're comparing that to the 22 Base, I take it. If the Base had the same options, I could see where that would be a fair comparison. There are quite a few differences in those trims that makes up the price margin. I get why you're comparing them, since the Premium is now the entry point to the WRX. But you are getting substantially more features with that. Anywho, lack of sales was one of the reasons the base got the chopping block. The Premium outsold the Base by almost 50%. Good times! I almost bought the base myself.. But, I wanted that moonroof, Harmon cardon, keyless entry, etc.. lol.. sorry for the long replys. 😏 Luv ya boo!
35k today was 24.9k in 2008 when you account for inflation. and thats being generous, so "technically" a WRX is cheaper today....even though wages haven't kept pace.
The prices are almost inexcusable just because of how terrible the resale is on them, why would I ever buy one new when I can find a 23 model for $25k with 10k miles, they want to charge $45k for something that isn't even and STI they literally sell you a DIY STI now and charge more for it, definitely one of the business strategies of all time. I think I'll take the Hyundai Elantra N.
I don’t understand why they didn’t just 1. Raise prices but also make the base with the current “premium” features 2. Make the new premium.. an actual premium.. you know have a nice interior or luxury type materials They dropped the ball again.. perfect opportunity to improve their designs and quality and could charge more for it. I don’t understand their logic or thought process if any
The logic is the morons running Europe decided that those intrusive nanny systems needed to be standard. The price hike is eyesight being integrated with the manual model.
I am still interested in the 25 tS even given the price. Drive modes, adjustable suspension, better seats, Brembos etc. All it needs is the transmission with DCCD. The only real thing that puts me off is that they might release an STI and then the purchase would have been stupid
I think what Subaru doing right now is testing the water of bring sti back, by bring ts out as a teaser, btw sti version of VB is indeed available in JPN market, that being said, I will be getting the Ts next year, i think the combination of adaptive suspension and digital cluster is perfect for me, that being said, I am a die hard EVO fan, if EVO is returning, I will trade in my future ts with no hesitation, for now, I agree to disagree hahahaha
It’s more expensive because people want comfort and tech with their performance. Before they just wanted performance. Don’t forget, the STI 2004-07 didn’t even have fog lights. 😂 The 04 radio and AC was an add on option. They original Integra Type R, same, no radio, no AC. Now all the top trim performance cars have everything loaded in. Next gen people will want massaging seats in their Type R and complain it doesn’t have that.😂
The speed3 was the manual turbo which Mazda killed in 2013 due to they wanted to focus on improving their existing models and establishing themselves as a premium automaker also why the Mazda 3 got awd on the turbo models
About 2-4 yrs ago I was looking at VA STI and they were going for 40-44G used, I end up picking up a 24 premium wit sti short shifter and axle backs with the upgraded speakers for 37 in June
Right the whole point of buying and suggesting the VB was the amount of value (turbo, AWD, 4door, manual trans etc) you got for a cheap price! Which you could get into bases and premiums for $30k or less in 2022. I’m glad I order mine in April 2022.. sitting at 8900 miles 😂
Was waiting for a refresh since this model of WRX is so hideous, we’re here in 2025 and the WRX is still fugly. They couldn’t just paint the rear bumper could they…the teams at Subaru have failed us.
I THINK what’s going on here is that Subaru is attempting to just elevate the entire WRX car into the STI category over time. They’re gradually bolting on STI-ish parts to the normal WRX and raising the price. In a few years it might be more like the Evo in terms of model “flatness.” I’m not saying that’s necessarily a good thing though.
Unpopular opinion. Honestly at this point I wouldn't be mad if they just dropped the WRX, and put the powertrain in the Crosstrek Tbh a Xtrek Wilderness with the turbo FA24 and manual would be sick.
The ts seems to be on point given the interior overhaul also. The digital dash is awesome as an option for Subaru. I wish it was an orderable option for all other trims.
Including destination the tS is 47k which is actually slightly more than a 2025 Type R MSRP. Warranted it’s difficult to get a Type R at MSRP, I was able to, but the fact remains that both Honda and Subaru deem those cars to be worth that much. I’m finding extremely difficult to justify choosing a WRX over a Type R. Really the only objective thing the WRX has on the Type R is AWD. That’s it. Type R has more power, weighs less, interior has nicer materials, better sound system. Even with a 5k markup it would still be a tough choice to choose the WRX. if they had an STI model with low to mid 300s for power then there’s an argument to be made.
It really depends on the area. In STL a lot of cars that are marked up in warmer climatea are actually MSRP here. Elantra n, CTR, Civic SI you can get all for MSRP here.
@ Yea which makes perfect sense. I live in California but I was able to buy a Type R at MSRP from Ohio and had it shipped. While I was living in Utah no Subaru dealers were willing to move off of MSRP for WRXs, they’d even inflate the prices by adding excessive accessories. My main point was how the manufacturers deem the value of the car. From that perspective in my opinion there’s no contest on value. Type R wins easily.
Sad part the STI was 45k now the puts the STI to 50 or 52k 😢 so annoying. I get they have the AWD and manual but zero performance in comparison to others. Till a sti comes out that still underperforms the market at that price point still
I think a lot of this has to do with the inflated semiconductor price outlook for next year. All electric devices will likely have large markups next year if the outlook turns out to be the reality.
i had a 23 wrx for almost a year before it got totalled. after I healed up and insurance was taken care of I went to get another one and they did not have the color I wanted and it was also 2500 more.

I know this is not a competitor but as a previous EVO owner and hot hatch lover, Im glad I got my Tesla model 3 performance for 47k. It does everything and is more fun than most of my ICE cars. These Subies are so overprices, Id never be tempted to even consider them.
This year-after-year of releasing special editions reminds me of the series of VA special editions right before they discontinued the STi altogether. (Edited for incorrect autocorrect)
It seems to me that what will happen is Subaru will inflate the WRX’s price until people cannot afford it, at which point they will drop it and blame the consumer.
Hello, what do you know about Subaru sti 2021 which would be better a Hyundai lentra n 2025 or the Subaru sti 2021 I ask because I don't know which one is to take to do it up to 400 hp or 500hp
The idea is to increase prices by bundling things like eyesight as "standard features." if you remove all the "forced" options or "new base features," it's different math. People justify higher prices by features. Subaru decides what to include in the essential car as "standard equipment." From year to year, they force "options" into "standard equipment." this is easier from a manufacturing perspective, but it increases prices and makes you pay for things you don't want. Example: Do I want eyesight, lane assist, traction control, or an SPT? No. Do I have that choice now? No. Do they care? No. It's one size fits most.
Considering the 2025 civic si starts at 29,950 before TTL, the base GTI starts at 33k, the 35k isnt really that bad. Esp considering its the premium. Killing the base wasnt a great move, but in reality, inflation has forced subarus hand, i doubt its greed. keep in mind the halo cars CTR, integra type S, GolfR, Audi S3, etc all cost so much more, while not really offering much more in terms of performance. 35k, with an additional 5k in mods, makes the wrx walk all of those more expensive cars. The value is still there. The sky isnt falling just yet.
I don’t think Subaru even cares anymore. I think they make sooo much money of the soccer mom/dad models and know where the money is. Pretty sure at this point they just want the WRX to die to make more room for crosstreks. I believe they want to price the WRX out of the market.
They got me for 34 on a premium in May of 22, wouldn't budge on sticker . It's been in the shop for trans rebuilds and clutch issues. I've lost track on loaners 20?-30? They won't buy back. Might have to trade and sell all my parts. Or get them to work and deal on a good price for another car.
For the long term i would have hoped they went the other way and offer a more bare bones car for the upcomming enthusiast. Hook them younger then when they are more financially able maybe they return and buy a more profitable model. Maybe the whole industry will reset once this whole EV thing either collapses or they figure out how to make them affordable, not explode, last more than 100k miles etc.
when I seen those prices in the USA they are incredible low, STI 2018 was 60 000€ car, new Honda Type R is 67 000€ car. looks like if you guys have our prices no one would drive any car...
No Thanks. I purchased my 2006 WRX for 24,000 brand new. It had 4 piston front brakes (albeit not Brembo, but good), decent wheels, clean interior and very sporty seats. It shared the same body as the STi and everything was painted; there was no ugly black trim all over it. Oh, and it included a spoiler, there was protection under the engine, and a rear limited slip differential. I can't believe how expensive and downgraded this thing is. I know inflation is a thing, bla bla bla, but come on! It would be one thing if it was still at a competitive level. And the end of the STi.... come on Subaru!
Thank god I got my tr when I did, if possible to retrofit the lcd dash, ta da we got a cheaper “ts” with out the adaptive suspension, I prefer the car without just because when I do coilovers then I don’t have to custom fab resistors for the non existent adaptive suspension
Making the WRX tS $46,875 with no extra horsepower and torque spells immediate disaster for Subaru of Japan and Subaru of America with the WRX. The car has only had an abysmal +3hp increase since the end of the VA gen WRX from 268hp to 271 for the 6 years the gen WRX has been out. The VB gen WRX has been out since 2022 and the power has stayed the same since it came out at 271. This car is immediately DEAD ON ARRIVAL (DOA) in January 2025 and they know it. $46,875 for just a white, blue, or purple exterior with a blue interior and EyeSight Technology paired to a manual transmission and copper-ish Brembo brakes does not make this car attractive one bit. Unless someone who is a diehard Subie fan and is looking for their first car and they've worked hard to save up and they want all the bells and whistles of this car, the WRX tS is meant for them. Outside of that, there is nothing that screams "tuned" by STI if the STI Division hasn't had their head in doing what STI does best.
@ Yes indeed! A pre purchase inspection is definitely a must when buying a pre owned Subaru(or any car for that matter) directly from a person. If your gonna buy from a dealer then i recommend that you only buy from an actual Subaru dealer. Why you ask? Cuz buying from a Subaru dealer is the only way you could buy a Certified Pre Owned Subaru, plus that’s the only way you could get Subaru’s Extended Warranty(it’s only optional if you want) but I definitely recommend for everyone to get it since it’s only like $15-$20 more per month but it’s so worth it! For it gives you peace of mind and you really can’t put a price on that…just for example, I myself got Subarus Gold extended warranty for 36months/36k miles(which ever comes first) and starts on the day of purchase, so basically my 2018 Outback had 67k miles when I purchased it back in 2020, so the warranty started from there at 67k miles and was good from there on up until I hit 103k miles or 36 months(which ever came first) and best thing of all it basically covered anything and everything that could potentially break or wear out in my Subie and yes i literally mean everything! Even normal wear and tear items(except brakes and tires, which is understandable) and all I had to pay was $100 deductible/per visit regardless of the number of parts that were covered/replaced on that particular visit, plus they also provide you with a free loaner vehicle on every single visit for how ever long it takes them to finish working on your car. Nice!!! Another plus is that Subaru is who actually sells you the warranty so only Subaru gets work on your Subaru vehicle(Any Subaru dealer nation wide) unlike other third party extended warranty’s that have nothing to do with the original car manufacturer, also unlike those third party extended warranty’s that always try to find any excuse to deny your claim, Subaru is always more then happy and willing to approve your claim, even if you offroad your Subie a lot they don’t care they will still approve your warranty work, ive never once had a warranty claim denied even though Subaru of America knew that i had a TH-cam channel that was basically dedicated to show off all the crazy offroading I do with my Subie….yet they approved all the warranty work even though each time i dropped off my Subie for service the mechanics would be blinded by all the dirt, rocks and sand that would fall into their faces whenever they wound remove the under carriage plastic covers and or whenever they removed any worn out suspension part(I know because the mechanics would tell me lol) anyways i will shut up now and long live Subaru! La Outback lives!
Somebody at Subaru is drunk on the job and smoking some crack in the bathroom
The DCCD is more gimmick than anything else. 99% of people who own STI's dont use it for its intended purpose anyway. All that torque vectoring etc is just a waste. the wrx smokes CTRs all day with just 5k in mods. and is still far cheaper than the 60k most dealers pay. I owned the FK8 before my VB, and also own an 05 STI. The VB is a very very good platform, and killer value. The Golf R has a garbage awd system and is FWD biased, so not really a comparison either. Sure with the DCT it can be super super fast in a strait line, but who wants to buy thousands in separate tools just work on it. the WRX competes with GTI's and Civic SI's
people say its inflation...but this doesn't change the fact that cars are WORST and people pay more for WORST.
The TR Brembos are more like 3.5-4k in price. You can't even buy a Civic R for msrp, they want 10-15k in markups.
Subaru: Just make it more expensive and give them anything except the transmission that they want!
@@stronkworks idk what's happening. We are slowly losing more of the WRX identity. It's no longer the inexpensive semi feature rich turbo sedan we loved
They didn't discontinue it. Read Car and Driver.
Why are you spreading fabricated BS. The 2025 just got a price increase, the 25 did not get discontinued.
I can understand the price going up, but they are going to have to include 2 extra engines before I buy one.
Daddy government won’t allow it. Inflation and import tax is what’s causing the rising prices.
The WRX now starts at $35,750 😡👎🏻
@ConfirmedPatriot that's exactly how much a brand new VA STI MSRP was....
Was about to say you had me in the first half. I plan on owning my 22' for as long as I live.
How much did it depreciate?

Kinda a pics or it didn't happen moment. lol I got a pretty killer deal on my '24 Premiums during local 4th of July sales and paid substantially more. I was just about fully optioned out for what you can get on the Premium trim, but still. 🤔
I'm still dailying my 2019 STI. My STI was $40K.
Daily my 2017, bone stock at $30k.
Me too 34k for a 2019 base crazy
Emissions are to blame, they can't make a new sti
Agreed,
That's such a gross on Subaru's side to do that, you gotta be a Subaru die hard to get 25' WRX over GR Corolla.
Not necessarily, they're not in the same boat. Not everyone wants a high strung 3 cylinder.

My base WRX in 2005 cost me $26K, and I still have the window sticker. Considering inflation the current prices are actually not out of line. Not having an STi or offering a DCCD is a different issue.
Someone gets it!!
At least they still manufacture them. This whole segment is going the way of the EVO soon.
When the tariffs kick in Subaru will either have to start making wrx in America or they’ll just axe the whole car
You've said it all man
You are comparing limited run higher trim models with Halo cars.
But a manual awd sport suddenly. Is where ppl decided I'd love me a new civic type r or elantria n but they are awd and kinda would like that
@coreydugre6540 To each their own.
These prices are getting crazy. Glad to be able to get a 23' premium at $34,069 with HK/ moonroof package.
These cars used to be simple. There was two trim WRX and STI. Then they started all this limited, garbage, then premium, now the TR TS. They are playing BMWs game now with all the add-ons.
TS is not a new moniker.
They also had multiple editions of the STI like the Type-RA and S209.
Hyper inflation is insane! We are now feeling our wages going up penny’s while everything else goes up dollars

Subaru is crazy to think that they can charge CTR prices for a TS. Not even a full on STi.
I agree with you 100% on everything that you are talking about. Everything keeps getting overpriced, and there’s no reason for it. Inflation or not what everything is priced at today whether it’s cars homes whatever it’s not worth it and the unfortunate part is we’re all stuck with it.

My 2015 WRX Limited MSRP (including the options I chose) was almost $35k. Just throwing that out there.. :)
Yea but it's not 35k it's effectively 37k. So the base price to enter a WRX has now gone up 7k in 3 years. That's a crazy notion.
@@HeavyMetalWRX Are you including taxes and destination fees in that 37k?
@@Antykain it's $36,906 before TTL ☠️ I was just rounding up that $100
@@HeavyMetalWRX Ok, so you're adding in the destination and delivery fee.
So happy to own a rare final year base model
I don’t understand why they didn’t just
1. Raise prices but also make the base with the current “premium” features
2. Make the new premium.. an actual premium.. you know have a nice interior or luxury type materials
They dropped the ball again.. perfect opportunity to improve their designs and quality and could charge more for it.
I don’t understand their logic or thought process if any
The logic is the morons running Europe decided that those intrusive nanny systems needed to be standard.
The price hike is eyesight being integrated with the manual model.
Im glad i got the base model when I did, as I have the twist key ignition that i prefer
I am still interested in the 25 tS even given the price. Drive modes, adjustable suspension, better seats, Brembos etc. All it needs is the transmission with DCCD. The only real thing that puts me off is that they might release an STI and then the purchase would have been stupid
I keep hoping they will buy from all the insider stuff I'm hearing there won't be one till at least 2027.
@@HeavyMetalWRX oh wow.
@@HeavyMetalWRX my wife says I should just save for a Porsche lol
@matthewwain9958 I agree with your wife 😂
It's so sad they discontinued the wrx base. I own one since 1.5 years and really love it. They actually have heated seat
It’s more expensive because people want comfort and tech with their performance. Before they just wanted performance. Don’t forget, the STI 2004-07 didn’t even have fog lights. 😂
The 04 radio and AC was an add on option. They original Integra Type R, same, no radio, no AC.
Now all the top trim performance cars have everything loaded in. Next gen people will want massaging seats in their Type R and complain it doesn’t have that.😂
I bought a 2024 base model 2 months ago. My car came with the full screen infotainment system and eyesight tech. I paid $30k.
My local dealerships in Ohio have discounted their WRX's by 7% since the end of October. They might be at invoice!
Once 2025 hits I'm going to go and visit all my local dealerships and see what their prices are on WRXs.
They're asking STI money, and we don't even get LSDs.
I got my 24 Premium for $33k a few months ago and the decision is aging well
Right the whole point of buying and suggesting the VB was the amount of value (turbo, AWD, 4door, manual trans etc) you got for a cheap price! Which you could get into bases and premiums for $30k or less in 2022. I’m glad I order mine in April 2022.. sitting at 8900 miles 😂
Premium is the way to go but it is a bit expensive so work those dealers down. Don’t get played out here life is too expensive.
The inflation algorithm they seem to be using to inflate car prices, etc. needs to apply at the very least to our salaries.
I'm hoping for poor sales, so I can snag a purple premium for less than MSRP
Unpopular opinion.
Honestly at this point I wouldn't be mad if they just dropped the WRX, and put the powertrain in the Crosstrek
Tbh a Xtrek Wilderness with the turbo FA24 and manual would be sick.
I'm glad i bought a 24 premium at the end of 2024 with extra packages for 2k off only 34k for basically a limited
Till a sti comes out that still underperforms the market at that price point still
I got my '24 wrx for 33k with sti short throw package. I got about 1800$ off MSRP with 1500 down. 2.9% & 513/month. 😮
How many months though?😂
72
I think a lot of this has to do with the inflated semiconductor price outlook for next year. All electric devices will likely have large markups next year if the outlook turns out to be the reality.
I got my 24 base WRX about two months ago. They found me one with heated seats, power/heated mirrors. Quite happy :) Glad I didn't wait for a 25 model
i had a 23 wrx for almost a year before it got totalled. after I healed up and insurance was taken care of I went to get another one and they did not have the color I wanted and it was also 2500 more.
Btw the wrx hasn't kept up with inflation. A 25k wrx would be 37k now.
I can’t believe they got rid of the base model and the TR!
My 24 Base feels like a great value, everything I wanted that the base didn't have I added myself for cheaper. Just need Brembos now!
Yea the base is the best because you know people are going to change everything anyway.
What did you add? I also have a 24 base, and looking to make updates soon.

After 15+ yrs of driving WRXs, I decided to change platforms. Subaru is unfortunately behind the game anymore.
Just put $500 deposit on a new 2024 base WRX. After taxes and title about 33k
All Subaru had to do on ts was higher rpm and maybe 30-50 more hp and everybody would’ve been happy
I’ve owned several cars with heated seats, and in each case used them perhaps four times the entire time I owned each.
@@VideoArchiveGuy if you don't love in cold climate that makes sense. It's basically 30degrees better November and March here in Midwest.
Glad I got my TR at a reduced price of 41700 Can. Couldn't be happier.
I don't understand how people justify buying new. For any manufacturer.
Base gang rare! Pay hasn't kept up with the cost of things that's why it feels stupid. Our pay is stupid.
Crazy prices. Good video
Dude you are absolutely right. Subaru needs to wake up. We want performance! That type R looks really good right about now
I don’t think Subaru even cares anymore.
I have no regrets picking a 2024 BRZ Limited over the WRX!
Was waiting to hear your thoughts on this. I’m just annoyed that it’s gonna be so hard to find a used base trunk to put a wing on.
@@waykool698 omaw man I didn't even think about that. I'm pretty sure you can still still get a trunk from the factory with no lid spoiler.
@@HeavyMetalWRXyea that’s probably the route I’ll go. Just have it painted locally.
I paid $31k for my 20 wrx limited with 12k miles in 2021
Thank god I got my tr when I did, if possible to retrofit the lcd dash, ta da we got a cheaper “ts” with out the adaptive suspension, I prefer the car without just because when I do coilovers then I don’t have to custom fab resistors for the non existent adaptive suspension
Ts is about the price of a model 3 performances with the tax credit. Not a direct comparison but the speed for the money is not even close
Oof I didn't even bother to look at Tesla. Those are awd arent they? Id say it could be a potential competitor for the price.
@HeavyMetalWRX yeah AWD. 1/4 mile at 11.0. 0-60 is like 2.9
The market is already crazy over-saturated, they will be selling under msrp in 2025. Everyone knows sticker price is the sucker price.
Used market sounds better then buying new anyways
Honestly it really does. Just need to make sure you get that pre purchase inspection done on any WRX.
