As someone who doesn't yet own a vb wrx, I love your content. I've actually taken notes from your videos on what I want to do when I do get a vb. Thanks for the information/entertainment.
For me, no matter what the advantage to a FMIC, the top mount is just part of what the car is. Symmetrical AWD, boxer engine, 6spd and top mount with the big scoop! I think people are finally over the "no STi" and "soft" and "plastic cladding" hang-ups and finally recognize that this engine is a beast. Finally the Subaru community has quick and easy routes to 400 hp just like the VW/Audi crowd.
I had lowering springs on my 08 WRX for about 100,000 miles until I had a small leak. While I was lucky in that way, I'd definitely go with coil overs. It's worth saving up for a little longer for the way better performance.
GrimmSpeed has a VB, I really hope they make a VB version of the StealthBox CAI and resonated catback. They sounded AMAZING on the VA. They just released a post-MAF pipe and had a charge pipe on that video. Also, because of the locking pin on the shifter plate makes it much much much more difficult to install than the actual short throw shifter itself (you MUST have punch pins, room, time and a mallet or you will be cursing), but if you want stupid short shifts just get the billetworkz full kit. Plate and shifter is 55% shift throw reduction
Drone on a resonated cat back? Oh this breaks my heart. I know Cobb isn’t resonated and meets 95 dB, which isn’t that loud compared to other brands. But I know several of my friends have complained about the drone that occurs around 80 mph. I know ETS, Remark, and Revel also make resonated cats, but I have heard people say they drone as well. I hate drone…I have watched several videos put out by companies showing systems that have no drone. Keeping my fingers crossed as I make my axle back to cat back.
I've heard in climates where cold weather is brutal and common an aos is a worse choice then an catch can. Opinion on that at all? I live in a place where -40 in the winter is not unheard of...
This is a good one on power mods: th-cam.com/video/u2A_p3z6L9Q/w-d-xo.html I don't have a co lrehensive guide for cosmetics but now I feel like I need to make one!
@@HeavyMetalWRXa video on aerodynamics related mods would be cool, if only to help some modders avoid race inspired modding and focus on race enabling mods, or I guess vice versa. I will have a GT soon, knowing that I can't push it past 320/320 because of the SPT I'm going to focus on handling, reliability, weight reduction and aero. Even then it'll be more daily driver/spirited country driving than track.
Hey I just purchased a 2023 WRX Sport! pick it up saturday - can't wait to watch all your content! what do you think of Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller?
Hey man! So glad you picked one up. So those are just change the throttle position mapping. I'm not a big fan as it's just a placebo making you THINK your car got faster. My buddy has one in his jeep. I wouldn't bother with it for our cars tbh. Most of the power is in the turbo power and so increasing the throttle won't do anything.
@@HeavyMetalWRX thanks for the reply! and advice!!!! I dont get my WRX until Saturday morning - so I'm shopping for it... I'll look for a video on the topic from ya!!
@@jordan_BTC unfortunately I don't have any videos on the throttle commander on my channel. If there's something else you're looking for feel free to reach out on IG or if you have any other questions on the VB when you get it. 🤘
Question. As far as exterior mods, for example, a bigger hood scoop, wing, paint matched fenders more visual stuff. Is there any brand that is more reliable for paint matching or has been in the wrx game longer? Subimods, aeroflowdynamics, jdmuscle, noble. With so many options and no prior wrx/ modding experience in general it can be extremely overwhelming deciding what brand to invest money into for upgrades. As far as i can tell researching hood scoops noble and aeroflow look like knock offs of eachother. Who provides best quality overall?
You speak on catch cans, what about Air and Oil seperators? Frankly, I only go to the track roughly 2-3 times a year but have been debating to add this for engine longevity. Is that something you'd recommend? FYI, this is more for a future vb wrx lol. Still debating between the two lol.
AOS is a good option for a set it and forget it solution. However some people will say it's another point of failure. Where as catch cans are something you know you'll check. A well made AOS is good but there will be some maintenance.
I love this, thanks for an informative and quick video! I have been asking a few people about this and I'd like your take. Do you think an e-tuner can diagnose a potential boost leak from just some customer data logs? Also interesting you mention FMICs vs TMICs. Seems like everyone tuning their car says FMICs give the tuner more ability to push the car, but I totally hear what you're saying too. I don't drag race the car.
What is a good option to improve flow/power but not have increased noise? I like my cars with zero drone and I want it to be sleeper. Also don’t want to wake the baby napping as I head out on a milk run!
If you're rlaking about catback then the Cobb one is pretty tame. Once you add a jpioenyourr gonna add more noise. Tbh I think the lowest volume would be jpipe with stock catback. Intake will add induction noises but definitely not as loud as jpipe and removing mufflers.
@@HeavyMetalWRX right on. I’m running a Turbo XS stealth turbo back, plus turbo xs manifold and up pipe on my old 02 bugeye and it’s not bad at all, nearly as quiet as stock. I just picked up my 23 limited so trying to learn about the VB platform more
Hey man I think you should definetly do an STS if you have the Shifter plate it does a world of a difference this is coming from the stock STI STS I really hated it compared to my setup with a Cobb Shifter Plate and the Torque Solution STS I also have a Perrin Shifter bushing as well.
So I have the factory STS and it's pretty crap. I've driven aVB with just a shift plate and one with the shift plate and aftermarket STS. I don't like the combo but just one would be great. I'm switching to a STI transmission next month so at this point I'm just gonna let it ride.
Hell yeah man keep us posted look forward to it then im planning on saving money this upcoming year for the swap myself idk where to start tbh but I finally almost have my car where I want it at performance wise waiting for my Process West FMIC to get here hopefully next month. @@HeavyMetalWRX
I'm using Silvers NeoMax. I'm actually on 10k springs but I have the dampening to a few clicks into soft. It's not bad at all for daily. The springs are stiffer but you could do 8k springs and keep it on soft and it would feel great. Of course lowering a car will add a bit more noise and bumpiness so don't expect it to be smooth.
I actually haven't changed spark plugs yet. I will refer to my local Subaru shop for that here in the next month or so. Whatever they recommend is what I'll use and report back!
It's basically a cosmetic choice for you. Just depends on whow much you like the OEM grill. I know ours in US is gray but Japan got the same OEM grill but black. Personally I like the catfish looking grill from Noble/JDMuscle but if I had to pick an OEM id go with the JDM black version.

Technically you are cutting into the factory hoses to insert something in the middle. A slightly less understanding dealership could say anything.
