    Graham sits down to talk about launch control, flatfoot shifting, DAM, feedback knock, and his tuning philosophy. When it comes to either your 2022 WRX or your 2002 WRX the knock system has not changed at all. This information will be helpful for everyone!

    great interview, the stock maps for sure are "overtimed" on the base tables, but the knock system is designed to reduce the extra timing in the hot areas and keep those areas learned until the ecu is reset, then it has to relearn all those hot spots again and pull that timing back out again. The learning is saving your engine. I tuned my own on the street and went ahead and reduced the base tables in the hot areas so that the knock learn system didn't need to activate. Now, if any other hot spots come to happen, I still have the knock system enabled to help it out if needed.

    Love these videos! Interesting thing happened on my VB.
    I had a significant DAM drop to 0.5 during a down shift, and the DAM went back up slowly to 1 again, but the ECU essentially learned that behavior information and when I did the same shift later on, the FKL and FF didn’t budge, as if it knew, “oh shit, I overreacted last time” and no issues after that.
    Keep it coming guys! I lovvvve the info!

      I got my vb tuned at Prime Motoring for about 1 1/2 years now and the only time my DAM moves is when the climate is too hot and/or humid. Just as you said, it drops to 0,5 and slowly goes back up to 1. My knock varies from 0 to -1.05 and at some times -2(something).

    One thing I wish Graham would have stated more clearly is that all modern engines knock from time to time and your engine is fine. An instance of knock or fine knock learn on any given day is not going to destroy your engine. Going with a poor tuner, using the wrong fuels, modding w/o tuning, and not monitoring your car will destroy it.

    • @illyack5593
      @illyack5593 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      He did mention. You get a knock and the timing my be retarded. This saves your engine. Correct.

    • @boostedperformance_
      @boostedperformance_ 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sorry if I was not more clear on it! Around the 21:30 mark in the video I do talk a bit about loud audible knock and lighter "normal" knock the ECU can hear but we cannot usually hear ourselves. You are right that all combustion engines will have some light knock at times and this is normal. The heavy, loud, sustained knock that you start to hear is the bad kind and what the DAM movement aims to control when needed.

    Fantastic video! So much helpful information. I was hoping he would touch on how to increase your DAM after it drops. I've noticed if your DAM drops, you can slowly raise it back to 1.00 if you roll into 2-3PSI of boost in 3rd or 4th gear and your ECU likes what it sees.

Would you say it's better for your car/engine to run a e-30 map indefinitely rather than running my 91 map with 91 gas? Might be a dumb question but knowing how some gas is better than others would running a e-30 with okay gas vs. like an expensive chevron only 91 octane? Thanks in advance

    My DAM constantly drops from 1.000 on my vb and i have tested it and it is not a fuel issue. The only mod i have is the accespoort itself, and i have noticed the dam drops mostly when i push a little too hard on the throttle at 1.5-3k rpm in 5th and 6th, and on uphills. My feedback knock value gets pretty high whenever i drive lightly in a high gear too for some reason. Does anyone know if i should be concerned?

      Definitely should not be at 1.5-3k rpms in 5th and 6th gear. Those are your overdrive gears. You only ever want to touch those when you are on freeway or highways. Usually 50-60mph and up. You are bogging you engine with that little RPM and that high of a gear. 6th gear should really only be 75mph or higher. Never WOT (wide open throttle) in 5th and 6th gear.

    Im ganna be honest broski... this is ganna be a bit of a longer comment/ question. Im not sure so I'd like to know, should i be worried?(south park reference 😂)
    i havent watched the whole video YET, but if you don't already address it here I'd love to get your opinion (or maybe even the objective truth). Before my current 23 premium i had an 2011 hatch which never dropped D.A
    M under 1.00. And it was a big no no if it did, from what others told me and research backed up. My 23 is constantly dropping to .5 or .650 and it'll take days for it to climb back up to 1.00. It'll usually drop randomly while cruising in gear with light throttle somewhere between 2500 & maybe 3300. Normally I'd try to stay out of boost with subpar d.a.m but the only way it gets back up is doing a few 3-6k pulls. Im guessing during the pulls the ecu is relearning?
    Should i start to worry?
    If i try to drive normal, which for me is around 2500-3000, it'll never go back up. I get the "regular" 1.05 and occasional 2.11 fbk and 1.05 fkl. Never hear actual knock. It's pro tuned for 93 with just a perrin intake and afe catback. and my tuner who I've taken it back to, told me it's normal and it's "just doing what it's supposed to do" but something isn't sitting right with me.
    It's noticeable when the DAM drops and only boost ~11 psi. Doesnt drive the same and feels sluggish.
    I also have DMAN's stage 1+ etune/ots tune and that never drops my DAM.
    I guess my question is, should i start to consider the possibility of beginning to worry?
    I don't think there's any more room to not be considering the importance of beginning to start the process of conceptualizing the thought of starting to worry. And the time to do so is..... very soon?
