Holy cow! I love Toto and hadnt seen or heard this before. I am going to have to check out the rest of this concert! They sound amazing still and the addition of the woman singer is spectacular! Just absolutely awesome and great reaction! Thank you!
This one was right on time 👍🏼 CBS Sunday Morning had a story about the band Toto and I thought it was a nice coincidence that I had just heard them on your channel. I grew up in the 80’s and I owned some Toto albums and appreciated their music.
My brother: the 35th anniversary concert was sheer rock pop perfection. Toto deserves not only Induction in the hall of fame, but their own wing as studio genius sidemen on so many great tracks and albums. They were the next gen Wrecking Crew
As a full on metal head I must say I have a massive soft spot for these guys, their skills and musicianship is second to none and damn they write a mean song! Honestly believe they should be rated much higher than they were/are... absolute pro's and better than a lot of the more 'remembered' bands IMO.
As a fellow Metalhead, I agree. Steve Lukather is an amazing guitarist; however, I have a pet peeve when guitarists don’t play the actual solo, which Steve did not. He still sounded great, though I prefer to hear the original notes.
@@darrenmacfarlane8050 While I generally agree with you, Lukather typically does reproduce the original solo if it is one of those people want to hear again. The solo on Hold The Line is usually not on anyone's top 20 list of Lukather solos. Check out any live version of Rosanna and you'll hear pretty much the same solo every time. For example.
Agreed. Then again, time is often gracious towards those labelled "guilty pleasures", see ABBA for example. I think it's a lot less controversial to come out as a Toto fan today than it was during their heyday.
Not sure what other bands you're referring to, but Toto are one of the more remembered and respected bands of their era. The total views on their videos on here (TH-cam) are in the billions.
Oh my goodness! I was about 10-12 or so when this song was new and often on the radio. It’s the first song I ever remember as being a favorite for me. So much so, that here and now, 40+ years later, it still makes me so happy when I hear it. Thank you for reacting to it!
Lead singer Joseph Williams is the son of maestro John Williams, who wrote the soundtrack to movies such as Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park and Star Wars, to name a few. Joe and Lukather did a killer “home version” of Africa in 2020 - Joe’s vocals are even better almost 10 years after this video.
Now that’s the Jamel reaction that drew me into subscribe awhile ago he’s back!!! Lol 😂 great job buddy really enjoyed this reaction would like to have a cold beer 🍻 with you one day!
Toto is awesome, they're one of a kind since they were made up of studio musicians and have performed on thousands of records. They wrote Human Nature, some of them performed on MJ's Thriller album. Joseph Williams is the son of John Williams, yes the Star Wars John Williams. Steve Lukather is legend. Amy Keys is a sensational vocalist! I could go on and on but that would take hours.
@@theodoreritola7641 IMO there are far better tunes in their repertoire. Take a listen to ‘You Are The Flower’, ‘Pamela’, ‘Till The End’, ‘Isolation’, just to name a very few of them.
This is a great version of this song. Two of their other big hits from this show, Rosanna & Africa, are also amazing. The opening when the backdrop falls to reveal what was the cover of their Toto IV album. The lead singer is Joseph Williams, who's father John Williams is well known for writing the scores for many blockbuster movies including Jaws.
Absolutely incredible! I've always loved to/rocked that song. He was smart in having her sing the highest parts (that he used to do). Vocals - amazing; instrumentation - sick!; showmanship/crowd participation - PRICELESS!
Steve Lukather is so underrated. He is a master of the guitar. Most musicians write out a solo and memorize it, but Steve just improvises it on the spot.
I have seen Toto in concert for years. Saw them twice their retirement year of 2019. A more proficient band you will never see. Totally professional band. Joseph Williams (lead vocalist) & Steve Lukather (lead guitarist) were still playing & Lukather plays every year with the Ringo Starr band, but has contracted Covid and had to sit this year out. Joseph William's father is the legendary composer, John Williams, who has composed music for Star Wars, Jaws, etc. React to Joseph performing "Burn", from one of their latest albums. Get well soon, Luke! x
Ha I was just going to comment about him being John Williams’ son. I recently found out he helped compose some of return of the Jedi, writing the Lyrics for the original ending Ewok song I lovingly call “num nuk” lol
If there's anyone capable of filling those shoes it's Simon. They're both amazing, I sort of like Simon better but that's probably because I haven't seen much of Jeff.
@@Ilikeryche Jeff made all those cool grooves Simon and many others have tried to replicate. Jeff was a big session guy...because he too had a phatass portfolio :)
Why do they sound so good live? 1. They are some of the finest musicians of the rock era. 2. They have played together for decades. 3. You have already heard them on some of the thousands of records they played on, meaning that there is a sub-conscious element of recognition: Tone and timing, groove and feel. It sounds so good because we recognize it from some (a lot) of our favorite albums and singles.
TOTO is amazing. You can really go down a rabbit hole with them. 40 years of music! Also, White Sister from this exact concert (35th Anniversary Poland) is amazing!
Enjoyed this song since high school in the ‘80’s…..This is the very best version I’ve heard. The lady that shared the vocals was on point. The guitar work was emphatic. The stage-presence was electric….I suspect that no one left that performance, dissatisfied. 👏
This is the band that wrote "Human Nature" - and that song is in all respects but one a Toto song (they even do it live sometimes). That is the singer - who is Michael Jackson.
❤️Yes! Not the studio singer, but awesome. After Steely Dan, Toto is my next favorite group! Just as with Steely Dan, they have a huge catalog, with some healthy variety; want some R&B? “Georgy Porgie” Want some relaxation? “99”. As others will tell you, they are comprised of some of the most accomplished studio musicians ever; if you’ve heard a hit in the 70’s and 80’s, there’s a chance you heard a member of TOTO. Fun Fact: one of the members wrote “Human Nature”, sung by Michael Jackson
Evidently, the lead singer had vocal issues touring day-in-day-out. Because he is perfectly capable of singing the woman's part of the song and achieving all the high notes. I've seen him do it live. He has a sensational vocal range. Jefferson Starship uses the same pounding piano riff in their song popular in the same time period in their song "Jane"
This was originally sung by Bobby Kimball. Although Joseph Williams can definitely hit those notes, they don't come to him as naturally. Having someone else share the load is helpful when you have to sing it night after night on tour.
Hey bro nice to see u back on that old school lovely music.. U heard of LOS BRAVOS ( black is black) I don’t see lots of you tubers react to ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT ( me wendal / TENNESSEE) awesome priceless jams 🔥🔥🔥🥇🙏✊🫡🤗
It has probably been mentioned already, but just in case: Toto pretty much was the studio band for the recording of Thriller. Sure, EVH played, and others came and went, but Toto was the core.
I love how at the end of each back-and-forth section they'd harmonize and be perfectly on point. They can embellish a bit on their own, but together they show off their technical skills with the perfect harmonizing. So good!
I think that this is the BEST live version I’ve ever heard! This was totally Righteous!
Holy cow! I love Toto and hadnt seen or heard this before. I am going to have to check out the rest of this concert! They sound amazing still and the addition of the woman singer is spectacular! Just absolutely awesome and great reaction! Thank you!
As always I will say Toto and many other groups from the era were/are just amazing. Great song and great reaction.
Jamal, I think that was the famous jazz bassist Nathan East, one of the all time greats!
And wow! What a performance by the entire band!
According to Discogs, yup, that was Nathan East.
Nathan East, along with Lee Sklar has appeared on over 2000 albums. Not just jazz. Everything!
He also played in Eric Clapton's band
