    When I was 18 I decided to lose weight. I weighed about 205 lbs. and stood around 6 feet tall. Here's what I did. . .AND IT WORKED!!! I began jogging every day (LONG before jogging was even close to being "a thing" to do). I didn't run very far, but I ran EVERY DAY. I quit eating sugar and carbs. NO bread, cake, cookies etc. I only ate protein, beef and a little fish once in a while. . .And lots of veggies such as broccoli, some peas and carrots, and some green beans. I drank water, some unsweetened tea, some unsweetened coffee and diet sodas once in a while as well. I became addicted to this routine as the weight began to come off. In fact, I took it too far and finally at 145 lbs. I said enough is enough and stopped being so strict about my diet. But I did NOT go back to much sugar as I had kind of lost my taste for it, and even though I did go back to some carbs, I didn't overdo that either. From that time on I have maintained a weight of around 157 lbs. ever since. I'm now 73 and I've noticed a bit of fat around my middle since I became a "covid recluse" for the past three ridiculous years, but I can handle that now that the world isn't demanding that I "hide out" in my apartment anymore. My point is that after my diet regimen at 18 to lose weight, I haven't constantly denied myself some things I want occasionally, and my weight hasn't gotten out of control. I think it's more common sense than having a list of this is OK and this isn't. I pretty much KNOW what isn't, and just don't overdo those things. So now at 73 my motto is, "Everything in moderation. . .Including moderation."

    I lost 140 lbs in one year, and I absolutely ate beans, bananas, berries, etc. what I cut was starch from pasta, bread, rice, and potatoes, and lessened my portions, and I used intermittent fasting. What works for one may not work for someone else, but I WAS fat, and did have a big belly, and I lost it eating many of the foods you say not to. 💁🏼‍♀️ (I am not, and have never been diabetic. In science we call this anecdotal fallacy. "My uncle Louie smoked and drank everyday and lived to 110." We don't know you or your diet before and after. However, science has shown that it is possible to eat fruits and carbs and be healthy. I haven't eaten meat in over fifty years and am extremely healthy.

I’ve even continue to lose while staying in a calorie deficit but it requires eating less than 1500 cals a day. So from my experience - do Keto to lose the weight. But once you lose what you want to lose you can go back to eating carbs as long as you keep your calories in check & you’ll be fine.

      That's pretty good. See if you can get the 23 hours fasting. So I do that everyday. So I have a one-hour window to eat my dinner. So I started on September 11 now it's January 13th. So I lost 29 pounds. Yes I still do eat some snacks. But I eat it with my dinner. Like I'll have a couple pieces of Hershey's dark chocolate. Right after dinner. Within the 1 hour window.

      @@steve54 I just started by skipping lunch. Never ate. Breakfast. But I ate snacks. Probably 6 times a day. And that would include a 12 oz Coca-Cola. So I just cut back on the Inna Coca-Cola. Until I had it down to one meal a day. Try putting two spoons apple cider in a glass of water. Almost taste like beer drinking. Apple cider. So it doesn't have any calories so it's not breaking the fast. And you feel like you're drinking something not just water. So I weigh 240. As of today I weigh 150. That's good enough. My military papers said I weighed 152 when I enlisted in the Air Force at 18. We just had a big birthday party I bet I weigh 152 now

      Weight loss is probably one of the best things to do for the majority of people. I had started the keto diet last to get my weight down to 190. I started from 205. I'm 6-1. I was worried about how my blood work results would work since I've never eaten so much meat before. Especially with the eggs and bacon or sausage in the mornings. I had blood work done a couple of months ago and my cholesterol numbers had dropped despite eating so much meat. I dropped the keto diet after reaching 190. Now I just eat a lot less carbs so I haven't been gaining the weight back.

      @@drekberg Thank you for your response. I agree and I accept that we all have subtly different responses to various diets and exercises. It just feels a bit frustrating when I hear apparently sound advice elsewhere only to realise later that it may not be the best way to proceed. I think with the work out message the consistent element is that excersise (at an appropriate intensity) will benefit you, but those saying it won't help you are perhaps trying to dispel the common belief that losing fat *requires* frequent strenuous activity.
      I follow a personal trainer who is still having to tell people you can't do sit ups to get a flat stomach and that "abs are made in the kitchen" because that myth still persists.

    I'm keto and have been for several months and doing quite well. I've lost 50 pounds and am now at my recommended and goal weight. Berries are, and have been, one of my staples, although I certainly watch my serving size. Without them, my diet wouldn't be nearly as successful. I agree, much of the marketing strategies out there are leading us astray when it comes to a healthy diet. I wouldn't include berries which are filled with nutrients and antioxidants but have very little sugar/carbs per serving. I guess I'm a bit defensive here because I truly love my berries. Take anything but them and my eggs and I'm good.

    Another great example of how Doc can break down a subject so well, and do it calmly and without name calling/finger pointing, etc. This is especially great for those folks that are newer to shifting to a whole food, lower carb diet. There are several great "gurus" out there, but many rely on a bit of sensationalism that gives them a bit of "character", but can actually detract from the message, on occasion. Sten's videos are among the first I recommend to friends that need a well reasoned handle on these concepts.

      @lee16 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@AsWeSpeak154 hi there, np.
      My usual eating time is at noon.
      When comes to meal I'm trying to use every day various vegetables and meats.
      So let's say today I will have a fried or cooked beef, broccoli, asparagus, carrot, red bits.
      Tomorrow I may have fish, with green leafy vegetables. I don't eat any carbs whatsoever, no sugar and no milk or cream to coffee.
      After meal I have my dessert time and eat handful of nuts;
      Brazilian nuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds. and couple bars of no sugar chocolate.
      I'm getting up very early in the morning and my breakfast is;
      first a water with apple cider vinegar,
      then black coffee.
      I said that eat at noon but I don't want to fall to pattern and give my body sense of stability.
      I'm switching time sometimes ahead or before noon.
      That way my body is confused and have to use my body fat to produce cell a necessary fuel.
      I'm not counting calories or checking for vitimins percentage if that is enough fir every day, but I don't feel hungry or dizzy.
      If I feel hungry I have my carbonated water with pinch of himalayan salt and hunger is gone.
      Now I have reached my goal of 31 lbs on Aug 14 and I'm cheating, a bit. Eat some carbs two meals a day and it's been 60 days and I keep my weight at desire level.😊😊😊😊😊

      I'd like to point out that at the very start of a diet or sometimes even for months down the line, your weight might not fluctuate much, but your whole body will be changing. For a multitude of reasons
      1- Body recomposition. You might be gaining the same weight in muscle that you lose in fat. Which gives the impression of no progress while in reality, you're killing two birds with one stone.
      2- better mitochondrial efficiency and activation. Slowly but surely your body will start adapting to the food given to it and the actions demanded of it. Therefore while delayed, your metabolic rate will rise and you will see delayed results. So don't expect results just a week of treating your body right just.after 5-10 years of ..not doing that.
      Hope this helps ❤️ best of luck on your journey.
