I have been working out on empty stomach + black coffee for years now. 1-2 big meals per day, I eat every 20-24h. I'm 39 years old. I have never felt better, and still building mass. Heavy lifting and/or crossfit.
Intermittent fasting made my body so much better in so many ways.. Took me a while to get used to though. I wish people knew the power in that. One would argue that the majority of modern people are food junkies

    • @yearginclarke
      @yearginclarke ปีที่แล้ว +6

I'm sure you already know this good and well already, but the problem now is people have easy access to lots of food in our modern world. (at least in the first world) And junk food is a problem we never really had historically until recently. We're wired to strongly crave calorie dense food whenever available because food was so much harder to get back in the old days of early humans. It was much healthier food usually and also required burning calories to obtain it compared to our sedentary lifestyles of today. In a nutshell it was feast or famine.
Our bodies haven't truly had enough time to adapt to this surplus of food, and therefore it's easy to give in to eating too much if we have no self control. Not to mention junk food is deliberately engineered to drastically jack up the salty/sweet/fatty taste of foods that we crave, therefore making it highly addictive in nature.

If anything I got more energy later in fast. Sometimes I feel like I get superhuman strength. My body is used to going days without food, after 24 to 48 hours I end up doing stuff I would not normally do plus work out extra hard with more energy. Great vid btw

      Kelly,
Give up wheat, rye, and barley...and you will eventually be doing OMAD with ease. 23:1 protocol. Even with heavy weight lifting 4-5x per week. You will naturally become fat adapted as you are able to do longer and longer fasts because you gave up wheat. You will actually have to force yourself to eat 1x per day. Wheat is the problem!! Read WHEAT BELLY TOTAL HEALTH by Dr. Davis. His book changed my life. Dr. Ekberg taught me how to implement and perfect Intermittent Fasting and LCHF. He is awesome!! Wheat is evil.

@@kellyin In the beginning I ate a lot of brown rice mixed with sautéed broccoli and EVOO. It's a tasty side dish you can eat with almost any lunch or dinner. It has plenty of fiber. As Dr. Ekberg says...you don't have to worry about the carbs in broccoli. Eat all you want. I still eat it, but cut down on the rice a lot recently...and I lost another stubborn 5 pounds pretty easily. BTW: my workouts have not been affected negatively. OMAD since January 2020. Only getting stronger and leaner. I lost 45 pounds of fat in 2.5 years with ZERO CARDIO. Weights only. No joke. I started IF with 14:10 protocol and just kept increasing it over time. It's simple without wheat, rye and barley in your life. Wheat is the biggest obstacle. It artificially makes you hungry. Read the book. Good luck!!

Well, I was naturally slim up until my mid to late 40s where I gained weight and went up to about 168/ 170 lbs.
I had a traumatic experience, and was emotionally bereft. It took a lot to keep myself going each day. So I tried to continue with my life, but I lost my appetite. I actually , forgot to eat most days.
I lost so much weight, I looked twice my age. I actually thought I had cancer, because of the rapid weight loss, and the subconscious suppression of my appetite.
I think I was grieving, and it almost killed me. So,I went down to 117 lbs, and I'm 5 ft 7 1/2 inches. I struggled to learn to eat again. During that period, I developed an autoimmune disease that has left me paralyzed.
I have regained the weight since then. Too much weight now. So I'm trying to lose weight although they say my bones are disintegrating and because there are lesions in my bones especially my vertebrae. I'm trying to lose weight so it's easier for people to assist me.

You need to eat zero carbs and high fat food. Oily fish, advocados, some nuts, huge and I mean huge amounts of greens sautéed with either coconut oil, ghee, or pure butter. Lots of herbs and herbal teas, etc etc. It will help strengthen your bones and body. You only put weight on if eat fat with carbs , a lethal combination for all problems and diseases. Eating correctly and health works the same for anyone even if paralysed. After a period you could then as a choice fast to activate growth hormone and help bones too. You obviously had no nutrition going into your body and became malnourished. For now do intermittent fasting which means you eat every day within a window period of time. Best if luck and I’m sure you can do with some as you’ve been through a lot.

@@johnmaestas582 i do not lift weights when fasting. i did cross fit a few times at the beginning of long fasts, but only a few times. for me, when i combine cardio with my fasting, I feel much more energetic than I do when I am just fasting. Example - I recently fasted 18 days, and broke my fast on day 18 because I was bored and was not sleeping very well and I did no cardio at all during the 18 days -- I am rebeginning a long fast tomorrow and will incorporate running and rowing machine. I have done 6 x 40 days and many 25+ days and I highly/strongly recommend fasting to everyone. I am Christian and I fast for spiritual reasons, and I recommend fasting to everyone, even non Christian friends -- because fasting is magical.

@@Encourageable i do not post videos and or push any agenda --- so I have zero ulterior motives in discussing fasting other than to positively encourage people to fast. fasting is very very mental. Do not listen to all the moaners on youtube talking about how hard fasting is, and that its dangerous -- fasting is not dangerous at all and in fact, is not the difficult -- after the first 4 days ones hunger is completely gone and fasting becomes easy. The best fasts I ever had were the ones I did cardio at least 6 days a week, an hour to 90 minutes a day during the fast. But I fast at least 3 days a week, and have done many 25+ day fasts, so my body is used to fasting.
for anyone reading this who is considering fasting -- do it. fasting 21 days will change your life -- fasting is very easy if you want to make it happen - make it happen. it will completely change your life, and you will feel great.

Thanks for this very detailed explanation doc! Love my IF that I’ve been on for 6mo with the purpose of turning from a craving sugar burner machine into a happy fat adapted person. I happen to run fasted sometimes in the early morning as the meal I usually skip is dinner and can do it happily w/o any lack of energy. Same when I exercise at night after my 6/8 hr feeding window earlier in the day. My energy is constant and stable. Love this routine! Now if I have urgent stuff to complete at work without being able to stop for a meal I’m no longer afraid of my brain shutting down. This has been the greatest metabolic switch I could gift myself with, by taking advantage of remote working for the Covid lockdown. I could experiment the changes without any stress. I gradually did it and I’m very thankful to have stumbled in dr Eckberg’s videos. 🥇

Thank you, Dr Ekberg! ❤️ I understand now, trying to do a HI Kettlebell workout during a 5-day to 7-day fast maybe wasn’t the best idea (trying to *get back* to being fat-adapted, and reverse IR. 😊 The first KB session wasn’t so bad...the second and third, well...😬🤣). I should either do these workouts (my favorite are the Art of Strength series by Anthony Diluglio of Punch KB gym) during the first 24 hours fasting, or wait until I am F/A and for now, go back to my yoga, or do much lighter exercise while fasting (longer fasts seem to work best for me). I will likely watch this video several more times, to reinforce these principles - but I do that anyway, with many of your wonderful videos 🙏🏼😁
